[Q] Strange Gallery Problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am having some weird problems with my Gallery app.
1) Gallery seems to take a long time to open certain photos. While the photo is opening, the screen will usually timeout and turn off before it's even displayed. If I keep the screen awake, sometimes the picture will never load. I can flick to another photo and then back and I'll see the picture.
2) Copied a few photos to a folder on my Internal SD card. All of them are around 1-2M, 72dpi photos taken with various digital cameras. When I browse to that folder in the gallery, it will hang and take forever to generate the previews. Of the 10 photos in the gallery, 8 of them will not generate a preview and I can't open them. I have one photo that does open but the same exact photo that was touched up in Photoshop and has all the same properties as the original will not open.
Media scanner is working, I am able to add/remove photos to the internal storage and they open fine on my laptop, I can take new photos although they don't always show up in the gallery immediately.
My phone is the Vibrant and has been rooted, fixlag applied, and Captivate camera apk installed. This problem was happening before I changed the camera software.

Saved Pictures Aren't Shown in Photos App Although Present on the Phone. Viewer Issue

Howdy,
Lately I've been saving a number of pictures from Internet Explorer and Whatsup, and once I got to Photos|Saved pictures, I saw many saved photos aren't there. Curious, I've plugged the phone to the PC and browsed to SD Card\Pictures\Saved Pictures and... all of the saved pictures were there in the Saved picture, they just didn't appear in the Photos app.
What could be the issue? Could that be traced anyhow? Pretty itching issue.
Luxon
PS.: I've been experiencing an issue like that when I've had reading failures after I turned on Full File System Access once on my Samsung ATIV S. But then I had issues with Photos app closing every now and then after it was launched. I don't experience such issues now, Photos app and other apps like Camera don't close on starting.
Hmm... are they all image formats that the Pictures app recognizes? IE supports a lot of image formats (SVG, for example) that are not officially supported image formats on the phone.
When you save a picture in IE, it gets shown fullscreen and there's a message at the top, even when it says finished, it only saves the picture when you wait for it to disappear, clicking back will cancel it.

[Q] Panorama 360 photos not showing correctly in the Gallery after rename/copy/move

Hi,
I took some panorama 360 photos last week and they were showing fine in the Gallery (the panorama icon was showing) and I was able to explore them with the gyroscope. But after moving them to another folder with a file explorer they are not shown as panorama pictures anymore (the icon is not showing and they appear ugly). I tried moving them again to their original folder but it still does not work.
I did some research and took new pictures and discovered that even renaming them prevents them from showing correctly in the Gallery. The only operations allowed that don't "break" them in Gallery are the ones provided directly by the Gallery application (copy or move to another album), any other operation performed with an external file explorer app breaks the gallery compatibility with these files.
I have uploaded the pictures to Google+ and they are displayed correctly, so they are fine and there is no corruption, so it seems to be a problem with the Gallery application.
Do you know how to fix this problem? I would like to be able to see the again in the phone, the gyroscope exploration is amazing :good:
Thank you very much in advance.
Any ideas about it?
Thanks

Gallery stopped displaying older pics

I've got the Camera saving to my sd card and until last weekend, as far as I ever noticed, the built-in Gallery app would display all of my pictures (the ones from the S5 - it doesn't search any other dirs on my sd card, grrr).
Saturday I noticed it only showed me a handful of pictures, the most recent ones taken. And since then, as far as camera pictures go, it's only showing me ones taken after that certain point. Quickpic is still showing me everything. The gallery app still shows the few older pics that are on device storage, just not sd card.
Any ideas why? The only thing I can relate this to is that I tried the "drama" mode for the first time that day - the finished picture is in the "Studio" directory in phone storage, not SD, and it's the regular camera pictures taken before that point that are not showing.
I'm not a big fan of the gallery app in general, and now that quickpic shows my picasa pics I don't really need it, but I would still like to fix this.

Cannot open photos properly in windows explorer

Hey guys, I have an issue with my N6, with opening and viewing my photos.
I can view my files and folders in MTP mode on my computer running Windows 7 just fine from a general standpoint. I can click through folders, files and navigate just fine.
When it comes to photos I can see all thumbnails for my photos in DCIM ---> Camera, but when i double click to open, windows photo viewer (default that comes with Windows 7) will try to open it and it gives me an error "Window's Photo Viewer can't open this picture because either Photo Viewer doesn't support this file format, or you don't have the latest updates to photo Viewer."
Then it proceeds to hang in that windows and I have to force close it because it's "Not responding". If I try a second time, but instead, right click on the photo and hit open, it opens up fine with the photo viewer that I have set as default (FastStone Image Viewer), it opens up just fine.
I can only click left and right through the photos that I right clicked to open. So if I opened 3 photos using the right click method I can use the arrow keys left and right to view only those 3 photos. I also tried Camera (PTP) mode and still the same issue. Charge only mode forces Camera (PTP) Mode for some odd reason.
I have my drivers installed, I can navigate photos, files, folders, but I can't double click to open any photos and these are just regular photos taken with the standard default camera app in android with no strings attached.
To be fair this is a nuanced problem and I can easily circumvent it by right clicking to open up each photo but what the heck man. I'm tired of having these issues. I want things to work properly... Any ideas?
Bump.
Anyone?
hey OP try ACDsee image viewer free .. copy and paste in pc if it didn't worked test it in other pc running newer version of windows hope it works.
I don't want to have to use third-party software or copy and paste to circumvent an issue like this...
Anyone?
Probably not what you want to hear- but the easiest workaround on the planet. Install Google Photos (free unlimited "high quality" photo cloud storage), any time you want to view your photos go to http://photos.google.com

Only Google Camera Photos Showing Up?

Okay, so I'm having a weird issue on my Nexus 6
I have several camera apps on my phone –*Google Camera, Manual Camera, Camera FV-5, Open Camera, etc.
All of them save their pictures to the same directory (/DCIM/Camera)
For some reason, however, the only photos that my phone "recognizes" as actually being there are the ones taken by the Google Camera app.
What I mean by "recognizes":
If I go to Facebook to post an image, it will only show the ones taken by Google Camera
If I click on the image previews in Google Camera, it only shows the photos taken by Google Camera
If I browse to the Camera folder using Device Folders in Google Photos, it only shows the photos taken by Google Camera
Much weirder still, though:
If I click on the image previews in Manual Camera, it only shows the photos taken by Google Camera
If I click on the image previews in Open Camera, it only shows the photos taken by Google Camera
I.e., if I take a picture in Manual Camera, then click it's preview icon? It will show me the most recent picture taken in Google Camera.
I know these other images are saving correctly, in the correct directory, as if I browse to it in Solid Explorer, the files are all there and I can open them just fine.
But for some reason, any app that deals in media and not in file-structure won't recognize them as being there unless they were taken in Google Camera
I'm at a loss. I've tried deleting and recreating the directory; same issue. And it's not just one app that does this – any app that I take pictures in, the photos do not show up, unless it was taken with Google Camera.
Help?
