The reason I ask is not at all to be critical of the development going on with Hero, on the contrary, I think it's going very well. However, today is my last day to return the G1 I got 14 days ago. I love Hero and want to use it on a device with a hardware keyboard. The G1 is the only option for that, but I use bluetooth every day in my car. It's a must.
So, I forward the question, are you guys making progress? Can we count on it getting done or should I take this phone back to t-mobile today?
I'm quite confident for the LEDs. The Hero builds are not such a radical departure that we've all been left stranded in the atlantic, so to speak. When it boils down to it, they're still just Android-1.5, with some extra HTC glue on the top.
However, if you're in doubt, why not return it and get the Hero (when it's released)? HTC's software keyboard is easily the best I've used, so the loss of a hardware one wouldn't sting so much. Sure, you'd have to wait for root, but at least you've have a no-nonsense Rosie.
Magic 8 Ball says: "maybe"
in all honesty no one even knows for sure if Hero is coming to tmo. That might be a factor as well. Really though it's still android..and the g1 is a great phone..we don't know anything about the hero phone from a reliability/battery life/heat standpoint yet. It could prove to be the next iphone 3gs.
Keeping it
Ok guys, I'm keeping the phone. That means I got 2 years of Android goodness ahead of me on this G1. Keep up the awesome work Hero guys, and please get bluetooth running. The rom is fast enough now, and bluetooth's the only thing keeping me from jumping over.
Thanks for the help.

I love my Dream but that's a big no-niner-niner.

Having gotten bluetooth 98% working under Hero rom I'm pretty confident I'll have a solution soon. I have a feeling that with LED's non-functional and tying up the I2C bus with requests to turn on/off the leds which end up failing, this is causing bluetooth to not be able to disable the uart clock, which coincidentally has to be done over the I2C bus. I know, it sounds like a foreign language just be rest assured a fix for both "SHOULD" be coming soon.
Any news?
15 days passed... got any more progress on bluetooth and leds? Please say yes
Is there any workaround?

be patient. why not downgrade ur phone to a rotted cupcake if bluetooth is soo important. hero is nice on the eyes..but in your case it seems like you need function.
cyanogen is a solution.works well.
Right now, I'm using a Rogers dream firmware, and it works really nice. It has about 80% of Hero (mostly HTC Framework, HTC boot animation/sound, and several apps such as the HTC Music app, and the Hero Java JBED (loving it, lots faster than the Netmite J2ME) just without the Rosie/Sense/TouchFLO (yet...), and its associated mods), and 100% of the G1/Dream compatibility (LED's, WiFi, Bluetooth, Audio, etc.)
And there are Hero themes for the Rogers Dream firmware that aren't unlike those of 'lite' Hero builds (without any Sense). Twidroid, Twidgit, and a weather/clock widget would make it indistinguishable in function, for the most part, from a real Hero.
Though I am hopeful for development on the bluetooth issue, and there's a topic (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=527027) that seems to be making progress on this issue, I can't use a Hero ROM until the bluetooth is functional, as I use my G1 as my main music player, and I don't have a wired pair of headphones to use with them (some kid stole them from me, including the adapter). I do have an iPod bluetooth adapter, but since my iPod 5G, with custom themed Apple OS, Rockbox and Linux, crashed (unsurprisingly), it's not of much use to me currently.

are you using the RogHero build? i forget the dev... ah just checked it's Maxisma. hopefully the hero stuff is done soon with BT, cuz i know LEDs are working on some builds now because i really wanna show my dad (who is so not a techie person) that i can run something besides the Dream stuff on my G1 lol. good luck to all those trying to port the Hero ROM to the Dream...
I think I'm using a soulife build, as my /system/build.prop has:
ro.build.display.id=CUPCAKE.eng.Soulife.20090522.075548
I forgot exactly, as I usually keep my update.zip's on the computer except for a couple important ones.
i have had a android phone since the g1 came out with tmobile. I have had to switch to different phone company's because of myself moving. We first had sprint and I had the evo. Now with that phone I had no trouble and I loved it. But because of family they decided to go with At&t. So I got the n1 because at that time they had no real android phone. When I had the evo I never had any trouble with it. I Love you could copy and past Unlike the n1 ... And I noticed when I go to download pictures from the default browser on the n1. It tell me that the download was unsuccessful. Now this is not on all web pages just certain ones. Manly www.asianescapades.com... Now I would fig that with the same operating system I would not have this trouble.. When I use opera I can do most thing with it but still have trouble with opera.
Now with that I was thinking is their a way to flash the evo ROM on the n1 ? or another ROM. With same kind of features. PLEASE HELP ME OUT... email me at [email protected]
Yeah just flash the desire ROM and you got it.
Is their a evo rom and would everything still work on the n1
I have rooted and succesfully backed up my original rom I am wandering since I use verizon networks will the roms for sprint be the wrong roms for my phone.I would like a rom that is stable and fast that will let me configure wap mms sms so that i can use my phone on Page Plus which is on verizon networks. THANX
I have been reading that the eris is basically the same phone different skin branded for verizon so will eris roms work on my phone. THANX
Also forgot to mention that my hero came from Alaska Communications Services. I dont know how much different the phone is from others but it looks just like the sprint phone. There website calls it a HERO 200. This should have been further up even though I put it in the header someone might get confused as to what I meant in the heading. I do know the htc sync is different the 1 for sprint would not work so I looked up there site and downloaded from there and it works great. THANX
Hmm seems no one knows or I asked a question no one wants to tackle.
since you backed up your stock rom.. why not just try an eris or a hero rom? whats the worst that could happen? it doesn't work and you restore?
it shouldnt matter what rom u use as long as its for the cdma hero, roms do not affect data unless it specifically says so.
So the rom only changes rom and nothing else. I have been reading on this for only a week and learning by the minute thankyou both for your reply.Beirce22 I noticed you are using cyanogen 7.1 does everything like camera, gps, etc work well for you and how fast is it im ready to start my first rom flash. THANX
yes cyanogen is very stable its been my daily for about a week now and everything works as far as i know.
Does anyone know of a way to bypass the Sprint lock on tethering via wifi or bluetooth? I've searched high and low, and cab't find anything that will work with a stock rom. I'm running the latest update from Sprint, 5.03.651.3. I've looked high and low, and everything I seem to find is no longer in use. I remember I had an HTC One about a year ago and didn't have any issues. I had found a flashable zip file that bypassed the bluetooth tether.
I successfully rooted yesterday and am using TWRP 2.6.3. All of the info I can find is from 2 years ago, and mentions foxfi, or various other tethers, however, I've tried all of them and none will work. I'm assuming Sprint blocked the use during the latest upgrade.
I really want to stick with the sense stock rom, because I've gotten use to it, however, I've got a Parrot Android car stereo, and really need to have the ability to bluetooth tether to be able to use apps on the go.
If it won't be possible to tether using the original Rom, could someone please let me know a similar Rom that would work with the Sprint HTC One M7wls?
Thanks in advance!
I've searched for awhile on this and can only find fixes for old HTC devices. The official Plex app works fine over wifi but not over Sprint's network. The thing I don't understand is it works on my tablet (Moto Xoom CM11) when tethered to my phone. As far as I can tell this only occurs on Sprint (XT1056). I've also noticed IheartRadio crashes on Sprint but not wifi. Any ideas?

Are you rooted with Xposeed? If so, you can try the method listed in my guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/how-to-xfinity-tv-app-verizon-3g-4g-t2822906
Basically all it does is 'trick' apps into believing that you are on WiFi. It will be interesting to see if it resolves your issues.
Thanks for the quick reply. I tried that when the module was released and tested it again today but didn't have any success. Any other ideas?
