Droid Explorer and Android Commander - Fascinate Themes and Apps

http://androidcommander.com/ or http://de.codeplex.com/
A tool to manage your rooted android device with the simplicity of Windows Explorer. [From Droid Explorers page, but applies to both apps]
I prefer Android Commander because you don't have to drop $5 on the Bart Manager plugin.

I'm playing with them both right now to see which one is the best fit.

Restore link to Wireless Manager in HTC Home?

I deleted the link for the Wireless Manager from the HTC Home Launcher in an attempt to move it to another box. But it actually doesn't show up on the list of programs from which you can assign links. Is there a way to restore that link without reinstalling HTC Home?
Also, it would be a great idea if drag and drop functionality was integrated into HTC Home.
I still can't find anything through forum searches. Anyone have an idea on this one? I'm using the latest version with the brightness fix.
Use something like resco explorer, browse to Windows directory, locate CommManager.exe and create a shortcut to programs folder (in the case of resco explorer - 'send to start menu as shortcut' is the command.
Thanks chris!

How to get TCPMP 0.81RC Beta to appear in HTC Programs launcher

Hi Gang,
using the amazing TCPMP 0.81RC Beta only one gripe - how do i get it to appear in the HTC program launcher tab?
The issue here - *I think* is that this great little prog runs off an exe and isn't installed in the 'normal' way as such.
Please help - my neanderthal fingers cannot deal with the fiddling with Task manager and total commander every damn time!
be well and thanks for helpage!
lr
You can go into the task manager, copy the program, then go into the windows startmenu, programs and paste shortcut.
I'm using x button - ans di see no way yo copy a prog and pasting it to start progs.
scuse the lack of knowledge but can ya be more specific as to how to do this?#
cheers man
lr
I think he meant to use your File Manager, not Task Manager.
Correct, sorry. Use the File Manager to copy and when you go to paste it will give you the option to paste shortcut.
i did that - pasted a shortcut into program files but when i went to add it to htc launcher it still wasnt in the list..
any ideas?

This file manager seems to be the best of the best when itcomes to mannaging files.

try this Rhythm File Manager HD version for tablet
best file manager in market i ever seen :good:
TC the best in PC, but for android the X-plore file manager the "best file manager in market i ever seen".
Check out AntTek File Explorer. I have been satisfied with it after also trying File Manager HD.
It has a tablet optimized layout, customization options, a cleaner look and supports operations on system files and other handy features, such as checksum calculation, archive extraction and creation.

I've used Total Commander for many years, on PC's, WM, and now also on Android.
This has always been the file explorer to use. My most used program on these platforms ever.
Don't forget the many useful plugins (adons). If you are using TC on PC, install the Windows Media Plugin from here to have easy file access to your android device via MTP.
Sztupy made an ADB plugin for TC some time ago. Look here and here.
It's also easy to connect to your PC via network from TC on your android device. (Just remember to install the plugin from Gogle Play or here)

sFTP client for rooted Nook Simple Touch

Has anyone got any recommendations for a sFTP client that works well on the Nook? My first port of call was AndFTP, which I've used successfully for years on my phones, but crashes after adding a server, and crashes every startup thereafter. My second port of call was estrongs file manager, but that curiously does the same thing!
EDIT: I've also tried FtpCafe (which has the same problem), and older versions of AndFTP.
ES File Explorer does SFTP very well.

Thanks. I'm sure I tried ES File Explorer and found the same problem, but maybe it was an older version. The version I have installed currently works indeed.
Thanks!
Ghost commander?
It runs in super user mode so you can work in in the root folders, It does samba to access windows drives and ftp works fine. There is an sFTP client add on. Check it out.
Best ftp client, old nc style file manager too, this plugin for total commander:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2574655
For ftp server I use Servers Ultimate (Pro version).

Easy Network Acces: File Transfer to/from PC with Ghisler's Free Apps

Easy Network Acces: File Transfer to/from PC with Ghisler's Free Apps
I use this with all my Android devices, like being attached to PC as a drive but wireless PLUS:
Total Commander is the best file manager for Android, like programmers old favourite Norton Commander, and they're all free, no ads & no messages from dev. Been using it before it went into Play Store & was beta.
Install Total Commander, can use it alone as the best file manager, dual pane (swipe or click switch panes arrows) or in Landscape (install free screen rotate app/widget) mode both dual panes show
For Network Access:
* Make sure at least one folder on one drive on a PC is shared the hell out of it in it's folder/drive properties (google sharing drive folder in Windows)
* Install Lan Plugin after installing Total Commander. LAN (Windows shares) Shows up in root drive list. Go inside LAN (Windows shares) and click: + <New Server>. Enter server name (I use ip number). Settings form shows, at top: server name/directory: put the shared drive/folder's ip number. THAT'S IT! You can leave master password ticked on or off. 30 seconds to setup.
For FTP: Install FTP Plugin and repeat.
If it stops working next day: your PC's IP number might have changed, use fing app (below) to see your network devices ip numbers:
Long-Press on the name of connection you setup before: choose Properties: update with new ip number.
Use Total Commander standalone on all android devices just as the best file manager (auto remounts sys files, etc. etc.) or with network access plugins.

Guide I wrote elsewhere for newbie folk, part (ii) how to see your android device folders & files including NST ones in normal explorer windows and manipulate them. Part (i) is a noob version of OP.
i) To browse/manipulate/transfer/etc. PC & Mac files/folders on an Android device:
This is the best method so far (Jan 2014):
Computer side:
1) Share the hell out of a folder in Windows preferably with "Everyone" option. You can, if you like, make it a mega-data folder with sub-folders for mp3, movies, ebooks, etc. "Everyone" share option is the most full-proof if facing connection handshakes problems & is easier in operation later too but less secure, which is no problem if at home. Easy-peasy, lemon squeezy, also Mac guide:
http://lifehacker.com/5808814/how-to-share-a-folder-over-your-network-for-beginners
Any problems just google for more guides: share Windows folder
Android device side (even easier):
2) Install "Total Commander" file manager on Android device:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghisler.android.TotalCommander
3) Install LAN plugin for Total Commander:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghisler.tcplugins.LAN
4) In Total Commander root list of folders choose: LAN (Windows shares)
a) Click + < New server >
b) Enter any name (I use the IP number, as they change)
c) Just Enter the IP number of PC at top, leave the rest empty/as is.
DONE! Less than 1 minute for the Android part.
At Total Commander start, click LAN (Windows shares), click on what you just named & setup: you're in the PC!
As IP numbers change, use Fing to see IP number of network devices:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.overlook.android.fing
Instead of making a new one, you can change the IP number of your creation if it changes in future:
Long-Press your created connection: Properties: Change
Example: 192.168.1.4 to 192.168.1.5 if that is your PC now as shown by Fing. Takes 10 seconds!
I used Total Commander since beta. It's like old programmers dual-pane faves, NC etc. Plus IMHO & many other programmers it's the best file manager on Android & is on all my devices' dockbars. Finally, it's free & ad-free, the guy who makes it never asks for donations or rating or other messages. Also the FTP plugin setup is similarly easy:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghisler.tcplugins.FTP
I use other dual pane file managers on Windows & Mac as don't like Total Commander interface there or the fact it's not free there, but on Android apart from seeing Windows shared folder aspect, it's the best file manager for copying/moving/deleting multiple files. Plus Android sysfiles (access, attributes, installs etc.) are taken care of easier than any other app. Newbies should not mess with "File System root" files & folders.
Click on a file(s) icon to select (not filename), bottom icons (copy move delete etc plus multi-select) to send to next pane. Dual pane in landscape mode. Clicking filenames launches it. Long-Press gives more options. Does zipping & unzipping too. Make new folder is in menu command.

ii) To browse/manipulate/transfer/etc. Android device's files/folders on PC & Mac:
Of course you can simply connect your Android device's micro-USB cable to PC & Mac, given correct USB drivers are installed on the computer.
For WiFi, slightly tricky, I:
1) I'm not keen on Samba server as it hogs too much. I run a FTP Server. I run mine from app: Servers Ultimate (Pro version) on Android, it also has SMB & other servers. Android FTP servers are not so hot but this one works best IMHO.
2) I run Webdrive (paid version) on Windows 7 (maps a FTP Server to a drive). Or, for less Explorer like functionality, could use a good normal FTP client like WinSCP or FileZilla which are free and do everything file/folder wise.
