I am rooted, using amon-ra's care bear. i think its like 1.6.2 or something.
I use backup for root users, someone told me not to but idk why. . .
Every time I flash a new rom and restore my apps, it re-charges me for my paid apps !
ANY HELP ?
when you reinstall paid apps, it always reauthorizes your purchase, but it doesn't actually charge your credit card. Is that what's happening or are you actually seeing the charges on your credit card statement?
I've installed, reinstalled, & restored multiple times and I've never been charged again.
I use Titanium Backup and My Backup Pro in conjunction. Titanium restores the apps, My Backup restores the settings.

No it doesn't. After you purchase an app from the Market and uninstall the purchased app it changes the 'price' to 'purchased' and you don't get charged by downloading again. Are you sure that you're not looking to pirate apps?
Well, i used the apk files to get my paid apps. So I guess they are in the unknown sources. But whenever I restore, and go to my account - it shows that my bill is higher. Maybe i should just redownload the apps, but from the market .

That would be the best idea and not to mention the only one that we can help you with. XDA is very strick against piracy and any hint of such could be a one way ticket to bansville.
titanium backup for root users +$3.99 donation to dev = 0 click back up and restore of all your apps.
just wondering if anyone has some input as to what the best app to backup all my setting/apps.
If rooted, Titanium Backup is great!

I also agree with Titanium Backup.
The small donation is REALLY recommended.
I flash a new ROM maybe, once a month, or every few weeks.
I tinker with alot of apps, ROMs and things. SO I'm always messing with my Nexus.
Having the latest of my favorite apps + data, is crucial to me.
After flashing a new ROM, or upgrade, i ALWAYS WIPE. Even though they often say you don't need to, but I do anyways, just because I don't mind starting fresh.
It takes me no more then 10-15 minutes to restore a couple dozen apps + data
Titanium Backup.
/end thread
EDIT: One note when using Titanium Backup: When you load a new ROM, don't just restore everything that you backed up. Some times the new ROM may have newer versions of systems files or things like the browser and such, so you wouldn't want to revert back to your old version. I usually hit "restore all apps and system data", then deselect all and hand pick what I want to restore (a good time for ****ty app clean up too). Common things to restore other than your favorite apps (with data) are browser bookmarks, call log, sms log etc.
Titanium here as well

thanks alot, i will download titanium backup now and check it out.
thanks for it
I'm using MIUI and MIUI backup also best.
What would be the best option if you're not rooted? I want to unlock my bootloader and root to be able to use root apps but otherwise remain stock, what could I use to backup and restore for the data wipe that unlocking it will do?
Can't do anything to back up apps data without root, sorry. Root privileges are required to access that data. You could only backup phonebook/call log/sms/etc.

Welp. At least the apps that actually require effort to set up (launcher pro, widgetsoid, minimal text) all have xml export.
+1 on Titanium Backup, worth every penny for paid version.
Several general things to make your titanium backup and restore experience actually work properly.....
Be sure to be in debugging mode.
When first opening titanium, hit the menu button and go to preferences. Scroll all the way down to "app processing mode" and switch to "Auto, indirect"
NEVER restore system data (red and green text in titanium). Only apps. I know its a pain, but its easier to re-setup accounts and all that than restore and take the chance of the problems that usually arise from restoring system stuff.
I hope this helps people....
Restoring the data from apps that have the Titanium Backup icon will restore your wifi settings and your accounts along with various other settings.
To restore your contacts load the data from Contacts Storage 2.2 and not the contacts application itself.

Just copy the Titanium Backup folder to your external SD, then copy it back over after you flash.

I wasn't sure about this myself so what I did was just copy the TB folder to my computer and then copy it back to SD when I needed it. Maybe not the preferred method but it works.

Why?
The app itself recommends AUTO, Direct, and says that AUTO, Indirect is (If you have problems).

Under preferences change the backup folder to /SD/backup (for 2.1) /SD_external/backup (for leaked froyo). Make sure to look in that folder when restoring backups after a new flash.

False information? GTFO. Many people posted that batch restore "freezes" for them. Mine used to also, every time. Then I went to a titanium forum, found out to switch to indirect, and have NEVER had a problem since.
You don't wanna use it, don't. But don't accuse me of putting out wrong info .....

I didn't accuse you. "Cause it works" isn't an ideal explanation. So what you're saying is. "hit the menu button and go to preferences. Scroll all the way down to "app processing mode" and switch to "Auto, indirect" ...if you are experiencing freeze issues." He asked a simple question, why post a useless/snarky reply to him?

Looking back thru this thread, i see that i may not have explained WHY i posted this, so i will. As i said in the quote above, I searched a while to get ANY tibu support. That tip was THE MOST RECOMMENDED for problems, and it worked for me, so I thought I'd try to help others by posting. I apologize for not explaining further.
As far as being a little short in the last replies, i did not like being accused of posting false info.....
I do apologize for saying it was false. Just bad wording on my part, and could have been said more... politely.
Also, being pretty new to Android. It actually took quite some time to find out some the TiBu information you posted.
Thanks for the tip!

And I'm glad if the tip benefits you!!! =))

It's something you'll see in the list of system items you can back up in Titanium Backup. Basically, scroll down the list of things you can back up, and anytime you see the Titanium Backup logo next to a system-type item (it'll usually be green) that's some system settings thing you can backup to later restore. It won't be an app, just some settings. I don't know if the Contacts 2.2 will show up for a 2.1 OS. Can't test that myself at this point.

Hey, thanks for the post, but question since you brought it up here and I was going to start another thread but you seem pretty knowledgeable about this...
When you install a new ROM or backup and restoring apps, is using TB really "clean"? I am so used to Windows crapola, that someone told me it is "cleaner" to just reinstall all your apps instead of risking some "crap" getting transferred over through TB's process.
I understand to not backup and restore system stuff now, but what if u do apps only, which is really the better, cleaner way to install in a new ROM?
Thanks.

i guess if you want the "cleanest" possible way, you should just reinstall the apps, but honestly i've never had a problem restoring with tibu (well that's not entirely true, but that was due more to user error )
if you do have a problem with a restored app you can always uninstall and reinstall from the market.
but everybody has their own voodoo rituals, so just find what works for you and makes you happy.:highfive:

I would like to remove some of the factory installed apps on my Galaxy Tab7.
It has gingerbread 2.3.3 installed and has been rooted. I also have the free version of Titanium Backup installed.
I found one thread talking about this issue, but no explaination on how to remove the apps.
Thanks.

Just click on the app you want to remove and there is a pop-up with options : freeze, uninstall...ect. Be careful in doing so, the system may be unstable if you remove certain apps. Or you can just freeze them, less risky.
Hope it helps.
Edit : sorry I misread your post, I don't know if you can do it with the free version, I doubt it.
You should be able to freeze these apps in Titanium Backup. My recommendation would be to freeze the erroneous apps in favor of removing them, or at the very least back them up first and copy to a safe place.
your correct

While I do personally advocate purchasing the app, as for me it has been one of the most important pieces, it seems odd to me that you can't freeze/uninstall in free mode.
If you have the SDK you can use a command prompt in ADB to remove/rename them. But, that takes a little bit of knowledge of both the commands and the file structure.
Therefore, my suggestion is to shell out the $5 for pro.
yea...quit being so cheap!

Hi,
I'm wondering how you guys are backing up your stuff? I recently went from stock to maverick rom but it took me 30min+ to get everything back to the way it was. There must be a better way?
Is there any fast way to backup/restore the following (e.g. with titanium backup):
- Restore homescreen (app shortcuts?)
- Android settings (display, ringtone, vibrate, keyboard etc.)
- Accounts (e-mail, exchange sync, etc)
- Phone numbers (yes I know you can import, but it's yet another step)
- Saved texts
Thanks!

Bump.. will backing up mms.apk (using aosp sms) with titanium save all my texts?
I use TB for my apps/data. I use ADW/Ex so my home screen's restored when I do my apps
I use MyBackupPro for Call Log/SMS/MMS's
Email, i typically setup from scratch if jumping to a new base ROM (Moto Blur - CM7)
When just flashing a new version of same rom, i usually just backup and restore it with TB as well.
System settings, ringtones, and other misc stuff, haven't really found a good way to do that works consistantly.

Contacts Storage is for the calllog not sure which of the other Contacts acutally resotore contacts but all four wont hurt as long as only data is restored for them. Anything WIFI can cause issue so I'd avoid that. Thats all I usually all I restore as far as system data.
Okai new question.. Everytime I restore I have to press INSTALL, then DONE. (just like when you normally install an app). I have to do this for ALL my apps ( so 50++ times). Surely this isn't normal?
Hit the menu button and select Batch. From there, you can select batch restore, and it will run on its own. Just be sure to comb through the list and deselect and apps you DON'T want restored, like Blur apps etc.
