How to use internet thtough usb from pc with i9000?I`m new with android, with WM and activesync everything goes easy...and here how?
same question here, tried a lot of things but nothing worked
AFAIK it is not yet possible at this time, just too much stuff to do to get it working
fastest way is to do a WiFi with your PC/laptop
there are software for the PC to make it into an AP even if you don't have a router
Froyo does comes with usb tethering option, but I don't have the chance to try it

Theres an option in About Phone in setting under usb setting. Select mobile internet, select that and plug into pc via usb cable. Wait for about 30sec and vola, you are all ready to go. No need for wifi.

don't really understand your question but...
For 2.1 - Settings > About Phone > USB Settings > PC Internet
Plug in your phone to your PC via the USB cable and wait for the drivers to install, once it's done you're able to tether using your phone's mobile network.
OR
Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile AP
Configure it, turn it on and connect it like a Wifi using your phone's mobile network as a hotspot.
For 2.2 - Settings > Wireless And Network > Tethering > USB Tethering [Checked]
Plug in your phone to your PC via the USB cable and wait for the drivers to install, once it's done you're able to tether using your phone's mobile network.
OR
Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile AP
Configure it, turn it on and connect it like a Wifi using your phone's mobile network as a hotspot.
hope that's what you're asking for.
what does PC Internet mean here ??
using pc's internet to cellphone
or
using cellphone's internet to pc ????
On WM PDA, the PDA can use the computer's internet for connectivity. However on Android, this feature is not implemented by anyone.
So what if you don't have WiFi, like me? My PC is connected to the internet through a USB modem.
When i connect my Galaxy S to the PC (Settings > About Phone > USB Settings > PC Internet) i get a (very fast) LAN connection but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Is there anyway to configure either phone or PC so i can download or update apps from the market to my phone using the PC's connection (thus saving on my data limit)?????
Yes you can use your galaxy as a modem to connect your pc to internet by setting the usb setting to pc internet.

This I know, but the question is can I connect my phone to my PC's internet???
Done lots of research on this, Simple answer is NO you cannot share your PC's internet via USB to SGS. Winmo users like I dearly miss this feature from ActiveSync.
some newer laptops includes Ad Hoc WiFi
as in Share the laptop WiFi with another device nearby that uses WiFi
so the laptop acts as the AP
there are software for older laptop as well to do the same

Is there anyway to access internet on the HTC if you just have a PC connected to internet ?
using WM5 it's possible using active sync, but after i upgraded to WM6 it's not possible..
any clues ?
upgrade activsync
well....i downloaded the active sync from internet..
my IE on the desktop is using a proxy.. not sure if i need to configure something on the phone.
thanks for the reply
Is Active Sync required?
My nephew doesn't have AS installed (doesn't have a WM phone) and I wanted to be able to conect to the net without having to remember to taked an AS disk with me.
it's possible using wifi and routing the wifi from the pc to the isp
otherwise it's not possible
The only way how i know is whit bluetooth
Whenever I travel I take a bit of internet with me so I can use it in emergencies.
Another way to access the "computer's" internet over your phone is to use internet sharing from the laptop and create an ad hock wireless network between the laptop and the phone. That works great for me in places where there is no wireless but wired internet.
Check out this link if you would like to learn how to setup Ad Hoc Internet Sharing.
I can access the Internet whenever I have the HTC connected through my PC via USB and ActivSync.
Accessing the internet normally engages the GPRS data path, but with the USB to the PC (assuming the PC is connected to the 'net) it connects without engaging GPRS and routes through the PC.
It works on Vista and XP without any problems.
Another neat trick is using the HTC to allow me to access the Internet from my laptop when I'm away from the Office i.e. HTC -> USB -> Laptop -> IE Browser -> Internet. By using 'Internet Sharing' in programs folder.

Connect Your Device Via ActiveSync, make a partnership if you havent, goto ActiveSync Options and select
" Open ActiveSync when my device connects " , then select
" Allow Wireless Connections on Device when connected to the desktop "
and you are done
Ps. Make Sure you have ActiveSync 4.5
Hi,

Hendra
hi friensd

i hav active sync 4.5
but i can't active "options"
how can i connect to the PC internet..?
I'm trying to set my laptop up to use the td2 to get a connection to the internet. can this be done either via bluetooth wiFi or USB. I have tried to add a bluetooth network connection but the laptop keeps giving an error saying could not connect to the remote device.
When I plug mine into my laptop via USB, I get an option on the device to 'internet share'. Does this not happen for you? I'm not sure whether Windows Mobile Device Center is also needed, but it may be!
I did this today using a Macbook. The USB did not work on the Mac but Bluetooth did. I had to connect to the phone from the computer using ordinary bluetooth first (without network). Then I had to choose Internet Connection on the phone using Bluetooth PAN - which I assume is Bluetooth network. Also had to select Bluetooth PAN on Macbook - was a bit fiddly but it worked. Anyway it does work with USB on the PC see post 16 of the thread here.
cheers both, i will check out the other thread but when I connect the phone via USB to this (work) laptop, I get nothing. My home one uses Vista and Mobile Device Centre, but my work one uses XP.
typically, after a reboot the phone gives of the option to shart internet sharing but the laptop wants to install a rndis connection, but the only way to do this is connect to internet. ironic.
Ok, finally have a proper Interenet connection and downloaded Activesync 4.5 from MS. This looks like it will resolve the situation.
Just wondering if there is a way to tether to a computer with a wired connection to get Internet connection that way, instead of using wifi??? There is lots of apps and stuff that need to connect to the internet to download, but I dont have the wifi's at home.
And if not, is it a hardware limitation, or software???
as far as i know there is no way to get internet to your phone through usb cable.
you can probably work around it if you have a laptop wired to the internet or a wifi stick. you should be able to setup a hotspot through windows to share your wired connection over wifi.
If you are on Froyo, it is built in.
If you are on Eclair, use Acer EasyLink:
(credits to navygino on MoDaCo for figuring everything out):
1) Download & install this program, http://global-download.acer.com/GDF...uid&Step3=Liquid&OS=A01&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_6
(I did this on Vista) Device Manager-->Modem-->Acer Android Modem-->Advanced-->enter the sting: +CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”apn name”
2) Open the Acer EasyLink software
3) Go to Settings
-The number is just *99#
-Make sure everything else is correct
Ohhhh sorry thats for wired tethering, using your mobile network on your computer.
As far as using your computers wired connection, I have no clue.
i know that monoxide.tryst is probably gone but for anyone else.
if you want internet on your device you can share your wired network to your phone if you have a laptop/wireless adapter.
Windows 7
go to "network and sharing center"
>on the left "Manage Wireless Networks"
>>click "Add"
>>>"Create an ad hoc network"
>>>>Put in SSID and Security code
>>>>>"next" and then select "Share my internet Connection"
This will setup a wireless hotspot from your laptop/adapter using your wired internet connection. Which then you can use your phone to connect too.
How to configure my Galaxy S to connect my laptop to internet using USB connection to my Galaxy S? I installed Samsung USB drivers on my Win7 laptop and connect Galaxy S via USB. I went to Options -> Wireless and network -> Connection Sharing -> ticked USB sharing but error pops up on my Galaxy S.
What am I doing wrong? Did you succedded to share the connection?
I am using 2.3.6 JW4.
Thanks.
If you want to share your phone's mobile data connection via USB,
then,
1. use the pc data cable, connect the multifunction jack on your phone to the laptop.
2. in idle mode, select Applications - Settings - Wireless and network - Tethering and portable hotspot - usb tethering
3. to stop, clear usb tethering.
