I'm using the x1a (n.america) and i figured in order to make a backup of my firmware i would need the NAM (canada) stock rom instead of the UK one. (correct me if i'm wrong plz). And so i found this stock rom on this site, the exact one, even my provider's name was on it, and i downloaded it but it just came as an exe file and when i run it it just extracts/installs an image file (215mb) in a folder specified by me. In the tutorials it says that i need to put the RUU_signed.nbh from the stock rom in the kovsky folder... but i don't see that file anywhere, is it the same thing as the image file installed by the exe file? Do I just rename it and proceed??? PLZ answer this if you can because i have everything else prepared to flash my phone but this is the only thing holding me back...
Yes, if you're using the RUU method rename it to RUU_Signed.nbh if you're using the SDCard method rename it to kovsimg.nbh.

You need to extract the RUU_signed bit from the image i am having the same issue and i write software for a living. Are you following the tutorial on how to back up your rom?
video guides
Im actually following BioVolt's video guides which I think u can find on this site if u search biovolt's video tutorials? they're really good and detailed but they're kinda long.
The exe contains a .img file, just rename that to kovsimg.nbh, and copy to the root directory of your memory card, and flash it.

it's not for flashing it is for doing a ROM dump in all the tutorials it does'nt tell you what clearly to do with the stock ROM once downloaded. But now i know along the same lines as your idea It just needs renaming to RUU_Signed.nbh then place this in the same folder as the 4 files you have allready extracted.
I have watched biovaults vids good but a little long for me.
I am in the same situation, and I'm totally new to flashing/backing up Rom's.
I'm also following BioVolt's Videoguides to start with but can't get hold of the Stock UK Rom.
Since I purchased my phone in sweden, unbranded I perfer to use swedish stock roms (If this even matters anyway?!).
So just to get everything straight, can I just download "Generic Sweden R3AA009 Software Update" from the sticky here in the forum, extract and rename the .image file to "RUU_Signed.nbh" and use this when I'm dumping my rom or did I totally missunderstand you guys?
Thanks in advance and sorry if I'm just way off with this question.

The reason we use uk roms is cos they they are WWE(world wide english) and the kitchen needs this to dump the rom.
the one you end up with will be an exact copy of your stock rom.
Yes just rename the uk one
Allright, thanks alot! Really helped me out.

It's a little OT but my X1 doesn't find the kovsimg.nbh file in the storage card anymore. Why is that? I've flashed using this method for months!

Uhm, I'm not sure really.. But ensure that you put the "Kovsimg.nbh" in the root of the storage card, not in any other folder. Might be a stupid answer but you might have missed this lil' thing.
Good Luck, Anton.

Checked that...could it be a matter of storage card hardware? I had few problems writing on it through the card reader.

Might be, but you still should find the file if you successfully transefered it to the storage card...
Just to be sure, you haven't reformatted your storage card recently? It has to be in the "FAT_32" format to be flashable..
Can't really think of much else that gives you these problems..
So even if I'm using the X1a i should dump my rom with the STOCKUK rom? I read somewhere that if i flash my stock rom back on my xperia after it's been dumped using StockUK rom then my phone won't be able to connect on 3G etc.? Is there any truth to that, because im finding it impossible to dump my stock software using the NAM stock rom, kovskykitchen tells me that it cannot extract the ruu_signed.nbh

It must be uk ROM due to it being the only one that is guarenteed WWE the kicthen won't recognise anything else and when you flash back it will be whatever stock rom you currently have.
Hey all, I'm currently in RA after flashing the recovery image , and I'm trying to install the FRESH rom on there but for some reason when I try to "Flash zip from sdcard" it's telling me "No zip files found." Why is that? I have the whole zip folder placed in the main SD card, so why is it telling me it's not found?

I responded to you on http://GeekFor.Me, but the reason is because RA looks in the root of sdcard, the zips can't be inside of any folders.
So does that mean I have to take out all the individual files and place them directly into the root of the sdcard? Because I just basically copied the download folder and dropped it into the root. Thanks for the reply

You need to leave the files in a .zip, but yea that zip needs to be on the root of the sdcard.
The only file you need to install the rom is fresh-cdma-hero-20d.zip (for fresh rom 2.0d). Any other zips are just addons or tweaks or whatever they may be.

Hmm, I'm on a Mac and maybe it's me but the link I download from gives me an actual folder rather than a zip. And when I rename the folder to a zip, it gives an error. Is there a mirror link to download an actual zip folder?
Boogie when you download it dont opening after it finishes downloading .. just use the finder to navigate to where its at and then copy that to your sd .. when you open it on a mac it will automatically create the extracted folder .. hope this helps ...
Sounds like your using Safari to download it. To make this easier in the future go to Safari > Preferences > General and make sure that "Open safe files after downloading" is NOT check-marked.
Safari is unpacking the zip file for you. The file you want is in your trash bin, drag it to the root of your SD card and that's it..
Ok I'm gonna give it another go. Since I made it all the way through to the RA stage, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to flash the rom is there?
Thanks for all the help everyone I finally got it to flash the FRESH rom, but once I rebooted it, it's still in the "HTC" branded screen. Is it loading? It's not going anywhere but this screen, although I know it's doing something because the animation shine is moving.

After flashing a new ROM, it can take up to 10 minutes or so to load.
Nice Everything is all good! Now my last question is how do I get the removed apps from the ROM back onto here? I actually prefer to have some of those programs back onto the phone.

There is a link in the release notes to download all the removed apk's from Fresh Rom. You will then need to use adb push to push them back to /system/app. Search for how to setup adb on a mac as I honestly don't know.
Hi there,
My knowledge about lagfix can be said 0%..but i am planning to try this lagfix on my Galaxy S running Froyo 2.2 JPO....so i went to the project website and i found there are 2 ways for me to instal it on my phone :
1) Update.zip method
2) Odin
It stated that Odin is for expert only of course i am not eligible for that but i just want to know what is the differences between those 2 methodes?
My second question is, can i deinstall this lagfix in case i found it not helping and how to do so?
Last question, will this lagfix affects my phone to been upgraded via Kies in the future (upgrade to 2.2.1/2.3 and so on....if Samsung still care about us!!!)
Thanks in advance for all your help and maybe can be guide lines also to other Noobs like me..but i guess i am the only noob here!!!!

A: Update.zip is the safest method. You need to boot in recovery mode to install update.zip. How-to Recovery-Mode can be found in the SGS FAQ in this forum. Odin needs the Odin flashtool and is, like stated, more for experts and more risky, therefore use update.zip.

Yes, this info can also be found in the voodoo documentation on the voodoo homepage. "You can disable Voodoo lagfix by creating a file or folder named “disable lagfix” in a Voodoo folder on your internal SD card.
Then Reboot to apply changes."
to Uninstall it completely you need to flash another kernel. this needs advanced knowledge in flashing. how-to can be found on the voodoo homepage as well.

If you ever plan to flash or do an update on your SGS remember to disable voodoo lagfix before that. Even when using Kies. Always disable it.

BTW, voodoo lagfix is simply great !!!
ok maybe i am too lazy to scroll down all the infos in the voodoo lagfix project....bad me...one more thing....can you explain this one:
Copy the Voodoo package as /sdcard/update.zip at the root of your SD Card.
is it the ext. or int. SD card?...what is root of SD Card???? totally blank!!!

when you open your standard file manager (app eigene dateien) you are automatically in the root of the folder sdcard, which is the highest level of a folder structure you can't go upper/higher, unless your android is "rooted" (but thats another story). this is the internal sdcard memory. the external sdcard is located under /sdcard/sd, which is a subfolder of /sdcard.
just save this update.zip at this place.
hope you understand what i mean.
ok..now it is very clear...thanx again.
hmmm new problem....when i try to apply the updatezip.file......my phone cannot find the file eventhough i have copied the file in my sd card...btw 1st time i just copy paste the RAR file into sd card and the same problem happened...so i think i need to extract the file 1st. so i extract the file first and copy it into my sd card and try to apply it...the same problem happened...did you see anything wrong i did?????
You need to have update.zip under /sdcard/ folder, not under /sdcard/sd/ which is external memory.
And file must be in zip format and named exactly like update.zip, lowercase.
voodoo-fix-blah-blah.zip is WRONG, if you have a RAR file, you should extract what's inside, probably it contains an update.zip for you to put under /sdcard/
Hey there =)
I'm a proud owner of a Optimus 2x. I've rooted my phone and flashed the "stock rom" ( From this topic) and downloaded 2 Custom ROMs ( Thisone and another one from a dutch forum).
However, when I go to CWM and do a Backup and complete wipe, when I wan't to flash the rom (as said how to do it in the topics) I get things like this:
"Finding udate package. . .
Opening update package. . .
E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (bad)
Toggle signature verification: on/off
Toggle script asserts: on/off
I tried all possible options.
When I got the signature verification ON, then CWM says the signature is not verified
I worked with both V10A and V10B, both don’t work
What do I do wrong?

Try to select zip file from SD Card. If you have renamed the ROM to update.zip this should work fine, if that's the case the update.zip is corrupted.
I’ve already tried that to, doesn’t work. I suppose that a ‘’physical’’ MicroSD means one you can touch, so a real one (I got one and placed the ROMs on the MicroSD). I also tried making the .zip files a ‘’Read Only’’. I just keep getting the same screen that it doesn’t work.
And is there also a difference between a NANDROID backup and the backup I do in CWM?

Yes, you need a physical SD card. See if it gets mounted in CWM. Nandroid backup is the backup you do from the backup/restore menu in CWM.
If you keep getting the same screen you have not selected the zip file that contains the ROM. Your CWM is looking for update.zip that should reside on the root of your physical SD card. If you select choose zip you can navigate to the rom zip file you downloaded.
How can I check if it gets mounted in CWM? I can find the update.zip (I renamed the zip file myself to update.zip) When I check in Astro I go to "sdcard/_ExternalSD" and there is on the root of the external SD the update.zip package..
However, I've done a backup back to the standard rom and now I see the LGE-Version is back to LGP990-V10a. Here are all my specs:
Basebandversion: 1035.21_20110223
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Buildnumber: FRG83G
LGE: LGP990-V10a .
Can you maybe explain to me step by step how I can do a custom rom again? I think I have to start from scratch again?

First off, if you install MCR Fr12 then go and update your baseband to the newest one. Follow these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008070
Download the MCR Fr12 again to ensure that it's not corrupted, check the MD5 of the zipfile and compare it with the one stated in the first post.
Put the zipfile on the external SD card, no need to rename it.
Reboot into CWM, and (not having my phone here, so maybe I don't remember the exact phrases) advanced menu/toggle signature check off and wipe all data (cache/user/dalvik)
install zip from SD card (not apply update.zip) and navigate to the downloaded rom and press power to select it. This should install MCR Fr12 without problems.
Hope it helps.
Edit: Are you able to browse the SD from CWM ? If not try formatting the SD card in your PC as FAT(32).
I haven't done it this way before, so I'm gonna check it out
And I think I'm able to browse the SD from CWM, because when I do ''Install zip from SD card" i can navigate trough the maps I created and the update file is on the root. I will try this asap ! I hope this works thx
edit: How can I check the MD5 of the zipfile?
The: E:Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (bad)

Well it might refer to a corrupted download
What is the size of the file after you downloaded it?
Also regarding checking MD5 i use a program called HashTab.
It's a a small program that adds a tab when you check a files properties.
EDIT: also that error can also just be it looks for a file called update.zip but can't find it.
In windows you might see the file as update.zip but in reality it's called update.zip.zip and that also courses that error.
If you haven't renamed it, then choose install zip from SD card instead of install update.zip in CWM and then select the file
And still it doesn't work. I've checked the MDA on the file where I downloaded it to, then it's correct. However, as soon as I copy/paste or cut/paste the file to my MicroSD root, the MDA doesn't match anymore. Can that be the reason?
I might have the solution. When I do a full wipe via CWM, the base version goes back to V10a, maybe that is the solution. I will download the file directly to the MicroSD right now. I let you guys know if its working
Edit: omfg, I found out, I think it's working right now. I formatted and mounted the MicroSD via CWM, copied the file to the MicroSD and the MD5 was now still the same. Right at this moment my phone is writing it to the system. So it was probably the MicroSD not correctly formatted or such... Thx for all the help guys

I am looking for a rom zip file for a T-mobile HTC desire 626s. All I keep finding are the ruu's. I need a zip file so I can install OS via TWRP. Anyone know where I an find and download one, really need as soon as possible.
Flashing without RUU
First, download the RUU and run the .exe up until it prompts you to begin the install to the phone. Don't do that.
Go to Windows Explorer and in the address bar put "%temp%" and find "rom.zip"
Rename it "0PM9IMG.zip" and put it in the root directory of your external SD and from here you can do whatever you want. I used the bootloader to install it rather than TWRP.
Thanks
