[Q] What is causing "Communication Failed" error? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So what is the cause of this communication error? "Communication failed" unable to communicate with the AT&T
Those of us getting the error - have you made modifications to the stock software? flashed an i9000 rom? Please spill the beans! I am 1 hour away from calling the warranty department and getting a new phone - AT&T tech support says to call Samsung as it is a device issue, and Samsung is telling me to call AT&T. When does the hamster wheel end???
edit - replacement phone is on its way- I'm impatient. But would still like to know what your phone status is if you too are receiving this error.

Unlocked G1 trying to send SMSs

Sorry if this doesn't belong here, but I've bought an unlocked T-Mobile G1, it seems to be running on the official ROM, version 1.5 (can't check it now because I still don't have it, but my brother tested it before he sent it to me, should be arriving tomorrow). Anyway, my brother told me that the phone reports an error saying that the SMS couldn't be delivered because the number was wrong, or something like that. I've read that it's associated to the myFaves service on T-Mobile, and because it's on another network now an error appears because that number isn't on the network it's on now. I've read that I have to install another RC9 to prevent this, what do I have to do in order to do this? I believe my phone isn't rooted, although I've been thinking of doing it and installing a Cyanogen ROM. I'd like to keep most functions on the phone, so any advice is appreciated.

It's prolly best to troubleshoot the problem when you actually have the phone otherwise we would be speculating what the problem is.
Thanks for answering, I'll have the phone by tomorrow, so I'll be able to take a look at the problem myself. Basically, what my brother said is that the phone would report an error randomly, saying the message couldn't be sent (or something like that, seems the phone language was set in Spanish so the error was reported in Spanish too, I'm from Argentina so that's why).

Sometimes you can get a error message like that when the signal goes bad at the time of sending. Once you get the phone and if you can't figure it out just come back on here and we can solve it for you. Most likely its something real simple.
The thing is that he wasn't trying to send an SMS, last night he sent me a message, I received it fine, then responded and he got the message too. Then he turned it off, used his phone for a while and I asked him to try it again today, without doing anything the phone would report an error while sending a message, even if he wasn't sending one.
Edit: Anyway, I'll post again tomorrow, with complete build info and anything that seems useful.
Edit 2: Got the phone, it seems it won't try to send SMS now, but I can't send any SMS, I think it's my SIM because it works with other SIMs.
Sorry for double posting, but another update: Now I have the phone and could manage to send SMSs, followed some instructions I found on T-Mobile Forums to manually update the SMS Center number and worked perfectly, now I can send and receive SMS normally, but every now and then my carrier sends me a message that says that the message could not be delivered and to check the number. Here is my phone info:
Model number: T-Mobile G1
Firmware Version: 1.5
Baseband version: 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version: 2.6.27.00393-g6607056
[email protected] #1
Build number: CRC1
The messages from the carrier arrive at random intervals, these are the instructions I followed to send SMS:
Actually, you can manually update the SMS center number on the G1 if you use AnyCut to create a shortcut to Phone Info. At the bottom of the display, there is a window marked "SMSC" where you can enter T-Mobile's number +12063130004. Worked for me
Of course I didn't use that SMS Center number, I used one provided by my carrier.
Edit: Flashed the latest Cyanogenmod ROM and now it won't send random SMS, working perfectly now.

can't send: text message error

Hi,
I have had the HD7 for a few weeks now... before the nodo update i never had a problem with it but ever since then, i keep getting a lot of error messages for text messages saying the message wasn't sent. This usually happens when the signal is 1 bar or no bars (but signal is still there) and sometimes even happened with full bars.
Anyone else have this problem? I am with Bell in Canada
same also with hd7 in tmo usa
same problem 02 UK
However ive found that if i go into the settings and into the carrier options and switch off 3g, everything works fine , texts are sent and received and i have no issues
this problem seems to come and go for me so im presuming its the same deal that you have - when the 3g signal is low its unable to connect correctly - and since it has a 3g signal it dosent auto downgrade to the lower speed connection - so manually disabling 3g forces it to connect at the slower speed
hope this helps a little
feel free to tell me im talking bollocks tho - this is just my experience of the problem
No message errors here on O2 UK. I've had the HD7 since release & use messaging a lot. I don't get a 3g signal in my area, so that might be a factor.
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Hey mate...Bell in Toronto area here. I've been getting the same thing, rather often tiotoo A few times I think it was due to receiving a text the same time or very shortly after trying to send one..it's weird though, pretty much every time I click to resend it goes no problem. You're not alone with that issue mate lol
phew ok awesome then... it hasnt been doing that for me ever since i started this thread lol, so i am a little happy for now... i am going to send off emails to bell and HTC and see what they say regarding this issue.
As per the 3G connection trick, as soon as i turn mine off, i lose all signal from the phone... the dialer just says "emergency only".
Thanks

I think it is a network issue. I'm on Telus (sharing towers with bell) and I have this problem on my HD7 and Galaxy S. Only in the last couple weeks.
I have to keep resending texts

Oh yeah that's right... i forgot Bell and Telus dont have edge bands. Hopefully the text messaging thing can be fixed soon... its getting annoying now.
I've been having the same problem. I used to send text messages in the loo's on my break, but now if I go there the signal is weaker and it fails alot. never used to before nodo.
This has been an issue for me since Day 1. My college is in a low coverage area and anytime im here, i sometimes get the error message.
I dont pay it much mind because if my phone is showing 1 bar or no bars, then it is obviously not the phone's fault(in my case) but the fact that I am just in a low coverage are and it struggles to get the message out.
This happens more so with my pic message than text message.
Sometimes people have also told me they have text me and I never received it or I'll text them and they never receive it.

did you check with anyone else in t-mobile that goes to your college? I do remember reading where people are complaining the hd7 has a weak antenna.
But even then so, 1 bar is no excuse for a text message to not go through.
I have the same problem. my phone will have full bars one moment then the next it will be down to one and "cant send: text message error" its annoying because i will reply and then look at my phone a hour later and see why they havent replied and the message didnt even send >_<
Some other times my phone get NO signal at all for a couple minutes then randomly has full bars again, its really irritating. I live in a college town where everyone here gets good signal.. no reason for this. I dont really remember it happening when i had the February update.
Ok so i sent HTC an email and this is the reply I got.
I understand that since performing the nodo update on your HTC HD7, you have been having issues sending text messages. I checked around with several of my coworkers and tried to find other instances of this issue occurring from other forums, but it appears to be a fairly uncommon issue. I took a look at the forum thread that you started and obtained more details such as this usually tends to happen when there is low signal. I see that some of the other posters recommended reverting to 2G in such a situation and that is not a bad idea. You can enable 2G only by going to Settings> Cellular. Additionally, the way you hold the phone can affect the signal as well. You may want to try holding around the sides so that your palm does not come in contact with the back of the phone, which can block the signal. Aside from that, you can also try a factory reset in case an issue occurred during the update and did not install properly or caused corruption in some of the files in the phone’s software. Please be sure to back up the information on your phone and the go to Settings> About Phone> Factory Reset.

I'm glad I am not the only one having this issue. (T-Mo USA) Mine started acting up last night with my 3G being EXTREMELY slow loading web pages and then ultimately not being able to load anything. Then this morning I am unable to send text messages, but randomly I will receive many emails and texts (like I only have a connection for a few seconds), then when I try to reply I am unable to send. Very frustrating.
i too have experienced this so here are some tips. For me i only get this problem when pressing send and right away press the home key or back key which interrupts the sending process result of fail sending. Enabling 3g if you dont have it is another problem so disable it. I also get this problem when locking the phone right after i press send so wait till it finish and then lock .
i hope this helps, if not restart the phone, and if that doesnt help take it to tmo and exchange =)
I've had this problem on my Omnia 7 since day one. Always have to disable my damn data.
And the ***** of it is when I go to re-enable data afterwards I have wait a few minutes to get it working again. Sometimes I have to turn the phone off and on in order to get data.
It's not a cell carrier problem since on my Diamond 2 I never had a problem, and the same thing with the x10.
Same problem with Samsung Focus on Bell. After NoDo update, SMS has been useless. I will get SMS, although often late. Sending is worst, I get the dreaded 'cannot send' message. I will occasionally be able to send some. Wondering if it's a signal issue. However, I can send just fine putting my SIM in another phone.
I've had T-mobile HD7 since last november, my girlfriend and I exchange about 30 messages every day, never had this problem before the NoDo update, not even once, no matter how bad the signals were. Im 99% sure its NoDo update causing this not t-mobile network. It's so annoying when you text somebody then go do something else, 20 minutes later you check back and see this un-happy face and can't send message.
BTW, Factory Reset won't help, tried that.

It will happen occasionally if I'm on Edge network. If I have a solid 3g signal it never happens.

[Q] Getting the same AT&T system text over and over

Since I performed the latest "security update" I have been getting the same text. It seems to happen anytime I transition from wifi to LTE or from no signal to signal.
It is from "74611888" and it says: "Free Message: AT&T AllAccess activated - learn more at att.com/allaccess xxxxxx-nnnnnn"
The x's are random numbers and n's are random letters. I assume it is some sort of validation message but somehow it must be stuck. I got the same message the first day I got the phone (a month ago) but none since then until the update.
Any ideas on what is happening?

It is not stuck. what it is is horrible. I don't have an android or anything. I have a simple Go Phone that I needed for emergencies but I can't even leave it on. I get on the average of 4 of these text messages a day saying "Free message:AT&T AllAccess activated - learn more at att.com/allaccess) I get them at 1:20 in the morning and late at night. I have a sick person in my family and really needed to leave it on but I can't be awaken in the middle of the night all the time. I have called customer service numerous times and visited the AT&T store to try and get them stopped, nothing stops them. I thought that we had some rights to chose whether or not we want unwanted ads. I cannot even activate that all access with a Go Phone. sounds like you did and are still having problems. I'm hoping someone out there knows how to get rid of it.

[Q] Text Message Issues

Okay, I came from Verizon and from a Galaxy S4, but I don't think Verizon or T-Mobile is the thing that's causing my problem
My problem... When I send a text message AT MY HOUSE AND ONLY AT MY HOUSE the message says fails to send, but the other person receives it cause they text back even though it says my message failed on my Note 4. I had this problem with the galaxy S4, on Verizon for 2 years and it's really frustrating cause sometimes messages fails and I don't resend cause i'm thinking the message went through.
I have full service with T-Mobile, so I doubt it is a service issue. Plus, I used old phones such as Blackberry and HTC, and this problem didn't occur. So i'm guessing it's just a problem with Samsung phones.
I have used alternated / 3rd party texting apps, and that didn't solve the issue.
Anyone experience or an expert at these things think they can give me a hand with this annoying issue?
Thanks!
Turn off wifi calling. If your router isn't compatible, or is just in a fussy mood it can cause this issue.

Homeland security trolling you.
I had this issue before too. I believe it has something to do with the signal tower in your area that is malfunctioned. If I was you, I'd call in the service carrier and ask to check if there is any issue with the signal tower in your area.

Note 9 WiFi Calling - can`t make calls but receiving works.

Hi there.
I have Note 9 without any brand. Updated to newest firmware that existed and about two updates ago there was problem - i cant make any calls. Restarts one helps, and other time don`t help at all. And now - it was no use to restart phone because of this problem. I felt that it might be this problem and i turned off this option and tried to make call - and nothing. Only when i restarted phone again - i can make phone calls normally like before. This problem exists not everytime, it looks like when i make call to my second phone it is only "connecting..." at my note9, and other phone is ringing. And there is two kind of behavior, first - in note i cant hear anything, just this "connecting..." message, and other phone after few seconds hangs up and ask about reconnect. And second - after few seconds after receiving call it finally works but it have take some time between receiving call at second phone and hearing anything. Its lottery.
Now i have this option disabled, phone is restarted and now i can make calls. I contacted Samsung via chat (samsung members app) and via Twitter and they said to me to go to their service to diagnose or sth, but i know what i will hear at service: "please reset your phone to factory settings and if then this issue will be present we will take your phone and try to repair it" but i don`t want to do this because of all this configuration and hours of clicking... I dont like to do this when i dont have to.
So my question - do you have similar or the same problem? Is WiFi calling have anything to do with sim provider?

Well need a few things to be able to help.
Carrier?
Model? I'm guessing N960I1?
What is the firmware version you're on?

And I'm assuming the carrier Support Wi-Fi calling right? It may be a provisioning issue. You should try contacting your carrier and verify Wi-Fi calling is a feature and that they support it on your device. They should also be able to help you activate it if they support it.
I wrote that it was working normally before, and now it stops. I`ve had this thing working.
