[Q] Where can I get the Some of the Stock Samsung Widgets? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've looked high and low and cannot find any place for samsung widgets. I like their social and buddy widgets.
Any ideas for the captivate, I installed Cog 2.1 and it got rid of them (don't know why, the widgets are pretty decent).
Thanks In advance.

I'm not up to speed on Cognition but you might check /system/app to see if the SamsungWidget_FeedAndUpdate.apk was renamed to make it disappear. Just a thought.

I'd like to know this, tooooo. The Samsung FB widget was much better than the widget that comes with the FB app from the market, imo

Someone here was nice enough to PM me and send me an extracted APK for the widget; however, I loaded it on my phone and just can't seem to find it when I go to add a widget. I'm using Applauncher, not sure if that has anything to do with it... Any ideas on how I could get it to show up?

Here's the bloatware that designgears removed.

Will that install *all* of the bloatware? Don't really wanna put the most of the at&t stuff back on there if avoidable...

[Q] How can I get the memo app back?

I ran the super rooter extreme and it removed all the bloatware. Only problem is I actually liked the memo app. I've searched around but can't seem to find it... Does anyone know where I can download it?

Most likely referring to 3banana Notes: http://www.androidcentral.com/android-quick-app-3-banana-notes (App review and Market QR code at the bottom) or from AppBrain http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.threebanana.notes
Odin
That's what I did. I also liked the memo app, and after my experience with the all-in-one updater I got constant force closes. So I reflashed back to stock, and used Titanium back up (after rooted) to remove the bloatware I did not want.
yeah. Some of the ROMs and stuff they are coming up wiht look pretty good, except they are all removing all 'bloatware'. There are a couple of the apps I want to keep: Allshare (would actually like something better, but not finding an alternative); and the AT&T Hotspots app (Maybe there is a replacement?).
I put up all the stock captivate packages HERE.
The whole rar is HERE.

[Q] HTC IQAgent: safe to remove?

anyone know if HTC IQAgent apk/odex is safe to remove?
thank you thank you
eidt: i searched google and couldnt really find a definitive answer.
remove world clock or desk clock and maintain alarm?
alright, after a few more seconds of research, i believe it should stay.
next question, i dont use the desk clock but sometimes i use my phone to set an alarm.
can i remove the world clock and maintain the desk clock and alarm? or can i remove the world clock and still have the desk clock and alarm functionality?
im just removing things... thank you thank you
edit: also gtalkservice. safe to remove? im figuring not.

Only way to know is to try, right? Nandroid first, of course. I think all the clocks are inter-related somehow on a Sense ROM, so my guess is that removing any one of the clock or alarm apk's will kinda break them all. But I've never actually tried it myself to know for 100% sure.
EDIT: I think you CAN safely remove the HTC clock widget, but why would you want to? I assume most people use the clock in its widget form on a home screen.

Many times when you try to remove Google things from your phone (ones that were already included with a ROM like gtalk), your access/login to the Market can break. Not always, but it does happen enough that most people typically don't mess with the included Google stuff.

i left the gtalkservice. i deleted google talk, nothing seemed to be affected. i dont use any widgets, i deleted those on day one. maybe ill try deleting the clock...
thanks
I deleted my WorldClock.apk no problem. I actually prefer the AOSP eclair clock and alarm clock better. Also yes, you can delete google talk, just don't delete the service. If you delete the service, it will break your Android market

hello.
do yall think itd be safe to remove the standard(stock) Internet app that comes with the phone? I use opera mini atm and soon ill be using fennec. could there be any adverse affects? the only thing i could see changing would be that the phone wouldnt question me as to which browser to use...(i dont like setting defaults. prefer one app to do a job)
thank you thank you
edit: removed... with no issues(so far)
It looks like a security researcher found out the use for this app.
Try searching this in Google: "Carrier IQ: Researcher Trevor Eckhart Outs Creepy, Hidden App Installed On Smartphones"
Essentially, it records every website you view, and every key you press on your Android phone. Even if you are on SSL, on WiFi.

[Q] Captivate stock calendar .apk from froyo release

Just looking to see if someone who's rooted their captivate on froyo could attach the froyo compatible apk for the standard captivate calendar. My girlfriend really wants to put it on her droid2 since her stock calendar sucks in comparison. I'd really appreciate it
The captivate calendar sucks imo. You don't get any smart links. So no url, phone, or email in the calendar appointment work
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

You can download Cognition 2.2 (look in the development section), unzip it, and grab the apk out of the /system/app folder.
Jorte is a great calendar/agenda/tasks app + widget that's free

My bad domin8 just realized you were wanting the TouchWiz Calendar instead of stock Froyo. I'm not trying to hijack your thread but I'm going to leave this up anyways if anyone wants the Froyo Stock 2.2 Calendar instead of the TouchWiz Calendar, Heres how to do it.
--Original Post--
Just a FYI the process is not the same as with 2.1 stock calendar. With busybox and Rooted Froyo this worked for me.
Download stock 2.2 calendar apk from CyanogenMod or I have It attached to this post.
put the Calendar.apk in the same folder as adb.exe
Code:
adb push Calendar.apk /sdcard/Calendar.apk
adb shell
su
cd /system/app
mv TouchWizCalendar.apk TouchWizCalendar.old
mv TouchWizCalendar.odex TouchWizCalendar.odex.old
busybox cp /sdcard/Calendar.apk /system/app/TouchWizCalendar.apk
reboot
Let me know if this works for you or not!
Wow!...Worked for me but whats that grey buffed area on the top? Looks likes someone wiped his dirty finger on the calendar app..

In the stock calendar, can you click on phone numbers, urls, and email links in a meeting? If so do the links work in both the body (notes area) as well as the location area?

Yeah, I'm not sure what that is. On 2.1 stock calendar it was a non-transparent big blue bubble with a + sign right over the days of the week. At least on 2.2 its transparent and doesn't cause any functionality loss.

Yes, all links, Phone #'s, & addresses are clickable in both the body and location areas.
The only problem I have found is when I press menu and select "Calendars" it force closes. Its not a big deal for me but it may be for some of you who would like to disable some of your calendars like the "My Calendar"

Galaxy Tab email app port - help wanted

I was messing around with the Galaxy Tab firmware and found that its email app is really nice and works amazingly well on JI6 for our Captivates. I definitely like it better than our stock email app.
The only problem I've found, and it's relatively minor, is that I can't scroll to the very bottom of emails, so the last few lines of emails aren't visible unless they're short and don't require scrolling. Usually it's just a signature or something unimportant that isn't visible, but it would be awesome if we could figure out a way to fix it. It surely has something to do with the Tab having a higher resolution screen than us.
I attached some screenshots and the apk for people to fiddle with.
Installation Instructions
1. Backup and delete Email.apk and Email.odex in /system/app.
2. Copy the new Email.apk to /system/app and select/install it from there using a file manager.
does look interesting, looks alot more feature rich than the captivate email client, hoping the cut off gets fixed n ill deff download
looks very nice! does it only get cut off while in landscape mode or does the orientation not matter?
Have you tried it with Exchange? If so, does it let you picke which folders to sync?
Does it co-exist with the existing email client or do you have to replace the Captivate one?
nice find
just installed and all you need to do is pinch to zoom and you can see the bottom!!!!!
I will be using this now! Thanks again sweet find!
As for exchange you might be able to get it through IMAP but i dont know for sure!

Gets cut off in both.
The landscape mode is really cool though. Oh, and animations (scrolling, zooming, page transitions, etc) are all very smooth.

Don't think it lets you pick which folders to sync with Exchange.
Not sure if it can coexist. Maybe someone with a little more development experience can chime in and tell us how to do that.

Yeah, it's possible to zoom and see the bottom, but it would still be nice if we could get it working perfectly.

You can use Root Explorer for everything.
Well root explorer doesn't give me an option to uninstall when I click the apk, and Titanium Backup can't find it to uninstall it.

Just delete the Email.apk and Email.odex files after copying them over to your SD. Then copy the new Email.apk over to system/app and click it to install. All from Root Explorer.
Thanks,it works and its nice. Let me know if there are any other apks that we can replace!

He said in the system app directory, so thats what I did. But you could try a straight install and tell us if it works.

Is there a way to have the phone think it isn't a file that already exists in the phone so I don't have to delete the default email app?
I found good and bad - the good is that typing a name that is on the Exchange server (not on the phone) and it automatically searches for you and pulls it back.
The bad - I can't find anyway to sync any other folder. Even moving to my junk email or sent folder and nothing updates.
Looks like i am going back to 2.1 for now.
EDIT - spoke to soon, eventually they flow into Junk email box, but no way to force sync.
Also, the buttons are to small for the Captivate screen (compose, forward, reply) - but the client is nicer then stock - if only it were built for the captivate.
EDIT 2: seems to be no way (I can find) to turn off images - so all the web beacons and stalker tags are activated.
App looks very nice and we can hope some of the pretty-ness can eventually make into the Captivate app. Looks like there are some exchange issues trying to use on the 2.2 captivate build. Not sure if its the captivate itself or just an incompatibility between the app and OS, but push email doesn't seem to work for me and I have some issues getting it to sync a full 2 weeks work of email.
Sadly I am back to Touchdown until I can find a better option.
is there a reason my /system folder only has like 3.5 mb of free space?? I backed up the original email.apk, and tried to delete both original files, but they would never delete. I even tried to just replace with the new mail.apk but it said i didn't have enough free space. Using root explorer, btw
i hate to hyjack, but is there a place to find all the galaxy tab .apk's? id like to see what it has to offer, if the mail client is so good how is the browser?

After i posted this last night i found out that it is indeed a problem with 2.3.3 (which im on). I wonder if theres anyway to fix that :\
EDIT: It turns out that the wallpaper version that I received was from the one existing 2.3.3 leak for the fascinate. so that shouldnt be a problem. yet it still forece crashes to matter what i do.
