[Q] Froyo update for Nexus one with desire RAM - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
I have nexus one phone and i have rooted it with desire RAM. What I need to understand is there a froyo update available that I can update on my nexus with this RAM?
Any solution or clue? Or do i need to remove desire RAM before froyo update?
note: I have 2.1 version of firmware installed at the moment.
Raheel.

This one ought to be good.
Please Google search RAM vs. ROM.

i also have the same setup but with the froyo update that your looking for. Being that you have the desire rom already on the phone you can just open the dialer type in 80 06 92 77 53 followed by the send key(phone symbol button) without the spaces of course. i just put in the spaces to make it easier to read and type. Just follow the voice prompts and you should be 2.2 after the phone reboots itself. You may have to reboot one more time to clear everything but it should work perfectly. Hope this helped and have fun. peace, veritas

Ok, if there was a thumbs up in this forum, I would have clicked it for you. That was funny right there.
And just to think, I was ready to pull out my tiny little soldering iron and see if I could upgrade my ram too!
Remember the good ol' days when you could send a phone in PPC Techs and have new memory soldered in? I even remember doing a few hardware and antenna mods back in the day.

Hi raheel78. In case you don't already know you have posted your question in the wrong section. These types of questions go in the Q&A section. The Android development section is for strictly that.
The "help" that you have been receiving is meant to be a joke. Some people can be cruel.
Please adher to the forum rules and post questions in the right place. Also, I hope this doesn't discourage you from continuing to use XDA. Its generally a great place for Android.

Phone Freezes Randomly (Magic 32B)

Well i´ve got a problem.
I´ve got a Magic 32B (i think its better in the G1´s forum) and it freezes randomly, since i´ve rooted it.
I´ve tried several roms, but the problem is still there.
I´ve tried some sd cards, but it still freezes.
I´ve updated the Radio and the spl (Radio : 2_22_19_26I & Death SPL)
well. i dont know what to do now. it freezes, the display´s still on, but its.. frozen. then half a minute later, it reboots. but its not a kernel panic. it reboots completely.
please help
There's only one thing to do in a situation like this.......
.........get a Dream (G1)!
thank you -. - i really dont need answers like this one.
Also, this is in the WRONG section, this isn't DEVELOPMENT its a Q and A so put it in the QandA section
reformat your sd card(fat32) re partition it , the wipe EVERYTHING YOU CAN ON YOUR PHONE, and flash a STABLE ROM. LIKE SUPERD OR CYANOGENS ROM.

I'm not sure where your problems can stem from.
That being said, I try some of the suggestions stated above, ie.,
1. Complete wipe
2. Repartiton SDcard
3. Maybe even invest in a new battery (you never know)
4. Those are the things I would've tried. Those same things can pretty much eliminate most problems.
5. If all else fails.........get a Dream (G1)
Or you could pray to the Cell Phone Gods...........
Seriously, I know I haven't been much help, but the suggestions I put forth is what I'd do.

Communities police themselves and don't need no STEENKIN' badges to do that. If you don't have an ARM compiler or the Android SDK on your computer you are not a developer and have no business creating new topics in this subforum.

You don't have to be a mod to know who is the intended audience for a forum section. If you expect free technical support the very least you can do is to help out the people doing it by filing your request appropriately and doing your own damn leg work.

Junior member wannabe fail?
Anyway, the main thing is is that if your phone is relying on your SD card like for Apps2SD you could run into some problems with a badly formatted card. Would you be able to post a logcat of one of these crashes? It would help a lot in trying to find and identify the problem and then fix it.

This sounds more likely to be a hardware issue, I've heard of many cases of it on the forums every month or so.
but why should it be a hardware issue? i mean, before i rooted it, it worked perfect. but now..

Yes, some people had the exact same hardware problem as you. You can try to un-root and root again but the problem may still be persist.
okay, thank you. i´ll try it tomorrow, then I tell you if it worked
Hey wazup man well i see what u talking about but i also have a MT3G (32B) and i had no problems with it. Its just depends of the rom you put on it cuz not all roms are stable some are beta or still working on the rom. So what you need do is find roms that are stable. Try find a rom in here go to the search Tap>and put this SuperCSDIX10 im using right now that rom and its FAST so hopwe it helps out

But definitely READ this section..... all the good mods, kernels and reviews are in here.
techmik67 speaks the truth... I got my first Android phone (THIS ONE) on July 18th and started lurking these forums less than a week later.
Right now I'm installing VMWare and installing Linux as a virtual machine so that I can deox ROMs, all-the-while combing over the Captivate source code in hopes that I might find some clue as to why our kernel is locked to the AT&T modem files. I'm not even kidding =P

I am assuming you are talking about a stock Captivate. If you haven't done anything to it, I believe you would see this in SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE
Baseband version: I897UCJF6
Kernel: I can't remember
Build number: Eclair
The 1st thing I did next was a 1 click root.
Next, and this is a personal choice, download and install from the thread SREv1.2.1a. If you read that 150+ page thread (most importantly, the OP) it will tell you that it includes some important things, like sideloading enabled and others.
Then see if you want a lagfix
At that point, your settings should now read:
Baseband version: I897UCJF6
Kernel: Same I think
Build number: SREv1.2.1a
I would install ROM MANAGER and QUICKBOOT from the market asap. Then consider upgrading firmware (baseband version) from UCJF6 to UCJH2 or JH3. Read the threads. And check my signature to see my setup, which I like alot.

How did you side load? did you actually "install" it, or did you "push" it to your phone? If it is installed, it will be in your app drawer. If you pushed it, you'll need to use the my files program to find the app, and just open it and hit install.
I would suggest reading the SRE thread, because that is probably one of the best way to really get your phone faster.
You can also check out the Unleash the Beast thread. Then check out any lag fix by Tayutama (that is what I use, and I'm not sure on the spelling) because that will make your phone quicker!

i have tried the i9000 rom, which was awesome, but i got tired of that little video call button mocking me so i switched back to stock UCJF6 and did the SRE1.21a.
how would i go about upgrading my firmware without reflashing everything and losing what i have already done? i have read the threads regarding the JH3 rom, but didnt see anything about how to do it without losing my current setup

If I am not mistaken, this is what Titanium Backup is good for.
Rom Manager will help you restore like system restore in windows to EXACTLY as you are, apps, data and all, when you create the backup (which you should ALWAYS do before trying to flash a new firmware or update). Do that now.
Then, get Titanium. Under backup and restore, backup all your apps and app data (will show up white text). Also backup SOME of the stuff in green and red. You can see what to back up. when in doubt, back it up and think twice before restoring it.
If at any time you brick or have problems, boot into recovery, choose reinstall packages which will run update.zip created by rom manager so you can access the clockwork restore menu. Then restore to your backup you made and start over.
Lastly, check out QUICKBOOT in the market. EZ reboot into recovery mode.
oh. i already use those and know how to do backups and recovery. i recovered all my stuff from my i9000 jump to jf6+sre .. guess i will go through the process again.

The $4 for Titanium donate version is well worth it. I did a restore on free, and it took 45 mins of installing apps and pushing buttons. took less than 10 with the donate version with no interaction.
Well I will re-iterate what others have already said. Read.
But here is what I did:
Flash JH3 via Odin
Root via Bugless Pete's Unleash the Beast v0.2
download Terminal Emulator from the market
Type: su
Type: sideloading
By now you are rooted and sideloading is activated and a bunch of bloat ware is gone.
Now install a lag fix (search for Zilch's condensed version of lag fixes)
You can choose between RyanZA's APK in the market or his script or tayatumas update.zip. I also reccomend Chainfires lag fix in the i9000 forums.
Now everything is done: JH3 - Root- Sideloading- lagfix.
Now patiently wait for Supercurios lagfix port for the captivate.
And find a mentor you can secretely stalk and try what they try. There are some people out there who really know what they are doing. Here is aquick list.
Chainfire
Zilch
RyanZA
Tayatuma
Unhelpful
Supercurio
And many more.

[Q] Quick question about 2.3.3 and CM7

Im currently running CM7 RC1 (which has been great to me btw) and i heard gingerbread 2.3.3 is finally rolling out to N1 users. i had a few questions about that:
1) do i need to return to stock android to have the 2.3.3 OTA update or will it push it through just fine?
and
2) once i do get the official 2.3.3, would that make CM7 run smoother? not run at all?
102 views and no answer? i find it really hard to get a question answered on this board...

1. yes
2. you run either or the stock/cm7. not both. one doesn't make other faster/smoother.
going stock, you loose tweaks in CM rom. if you feel the need to try, just backup your current rom, try stock. if don't like it, takes 3 minute to get back.
Yes you can try both and/or wait for CM7 to update.
I read it and did not say anything at all. Simply because the questions made me a do facepalm as I read it.
Now you complain that nobody answered a question that could have easily found looking on forums or the wiki.
I wonder how you even managed to get CM7 on your phone in the first place.

[Q] Which ROM gives me just a fast phone?

I have a HTC Hero (sprint) and have the latest Android OS on it (latest that sprint provides). The phone as you all know has gotten very slow.
I need to update the ROM to get a faster phone. My only requirement is that when I am doing phone operations this ROM should be fast and not get stuck.
Please let me know what you guys recommend. I really appreciate it.
THanks
I recommend you learn how to read, that will give you the answers (any gingerbread ROM should do). Also I recommend you learn WHERE to post a thread (this should be in q+a, NOT in development).

BOOM... you've been DUCED!!
I truly recommend you RUU back to Android 1.5. The OS truly was a lighterweight Android version back then. You should use set cpu up as well once you root. You can get it free since you registered with xda. Also, setting min and max cpu speed in there can really help save battery. set Min and Max both to 176 Mhz and you will have battery for about a week. My $.02.

Id recommend to get adb devices recognized before you root and then use super one click to actually root it.
Its easy and easy to unroot. And plus you have adb so you can use that great stuff later

[Q] Cyanogen Mod 7.1

Hi this is my first post. Im really sorry if Im posting this again and if I am just tell me to delete it and point me to the correct one.
So i want to install the Cyanogen mod 7.1 that was released yesterday onto my HTC incredible s. however since i have only just had it around a month i know very little about android rooting and how to do it.
My question is what guide should i use? is this the cyanogen mod good. i cna tpost it here it wouldnt let me.
if so i know doing so will void my warrenty and so is it like jailbreaking where all you have to do is restore to stock firmware?
Update: installed using this http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Incredible_S:_Full_Update_Guide
worked like a charm
thank you very much.

if so i know doing so will void my warrenty and so is it like jailbreaking where all you have to do is restore to stock firmware?
thank you very much.

welcome to the forum. just remember, this forum is chock full of great info. when you have a question, more often then not your question has already been asked. always use the search button first to reduce clutter
this phone is one of the easiest phones to root. just head here. voila. that's it.
yes, cm7 is THAT good. definitely worth it. fast and prob the best battery life out of all the roms.
you can always get the phone back to it's original state for warranty purposes. always a good idea to do a backup immediately after you root.
have fun.
ok thank you very much. Does the guide on the CyanogenMod website include how to restore to stock if you have to send your phone in?

i don't think so. that info is, however, readily available in this forum. just do a search
come to think of it, i think all you have to do is revert to the stock rom that you just backed up after rooting. someone please correct me if i'm wrong.
Does anyone also know if the root method for the HTC incredible S is temp? Does that mean you cant turn off your device? I'm confused.

no, it's not temporary. it will stay rooted until you unroot and return the device to stock/original state. why don't you try it out? it will be a good way to familiarize yourself with rooting, backing up, and restoring.
Hearing of the release of CM7 got me finally around of rooting my phone. This forum offers great tutorials and I managed to root is fairly easily. After rooting I was also asked wheter I wanted to flash CWM and I answered yes. Everything went OK and I was able to try CM7 after 30 minutes or so. The most time consuming operation was creating backup with CWM recovery.
But my opinion about CM7 isn't good. While I like the the effects and other neat customisation possibilities 3 thing turn me off.
First, I really love HTC's phone or dialler application which helps me find contacts by entering their number or trying to type their names. This is the single most useful thing invented on a telephone. As CM7 doesn't support that (only enterning numbers as far as I know) I will not use it.
Second, I wasn't able to connect to Exchange server for some reason
Third, Android Market shut itself down after 10 seconds and repeatedly kept doing that.

PS. I would have liked to post this info to developers forums, but as I don't have rights, I couldn't.

The markets fixed by going in to language settings and selecting English again.
Exchange worked fine for me...
Download another dialer application..
I'd choose double the speed, battery life and ram any day over sense
lets not start cm7 vs sense. this thread will never end really, it comes down to individual preference and that's not something we can argue.
cm7 isn't prefect but it's close, imo.
Please recommend a dialer app and I will give it a try Dialer One maybe?
Thanks for the market tip.

sounds good. and there are guides in the dev forum if you need some assurance.
Cannot download anything from the Market for unknown reason. The download bar just scrolls endlessly.
E: Restart helped. Everything seems to be working just fine. Will give an estimate of battery usage in a few days time. And will test out Skype as well.
I feel as though the guides here need to be updated current one is from June. Not complaining just sayin is all.

Yes, they could use some tweaking.

Yeah I think they need updating. From what I can work out the root for the HTC IS is not temp but the guide says it is?

What do you mean exactly? After restarting my phone is still S-OFF (if you asked that).

Well I think the HTC incredible S was a temp root but from what I can work out and what you have and others have said it is not. I haven't tried it yet but I'm going to tonight.
