I was just wondering.. I have ported the wildfire froyo rom to legend and touchpad is not working.. would it be possible to include the correct driver files directly into kernel for easier porting?

It's a Synaptics T1021. Look for the drivers in the sources for the Legend.
What about the difference in resolution? good effort though man, wish you good luck

He's asking about the kernel version not ROM version. It's 2.6.32.21-g4b3e397 to be exact.

I could easily port the Synaptics drivers to 2.6.32 if I only had the sources for 2.6.32. HTC didn't release them so far.
Too bad the GPL doesn't state "release sources within two weeks" or something like that.
For testing purpose he can use kernel from stock 2.1-update1...
Its great that the new froyo kernel is 2.6.32 instead of 2.6.29
Here no ROM for Legend has 2.6.32 kernel which is official for froyo.. Dont know why?? Even Azure do not have 2.6.32...
Just Ali ba and other devs please update the kernel instead of stock htc 2.6.29 please

The GPL requires that you CAN MAKE AVAILABLE the source to any person you provide a binary to within a reasonable time frame.
@spiritson: You totally misunderstood. We can not use 2.6.32 kernel as we are tied to 2.6.29 because of WiFi driver our device is using.
Maybe it's time to put some pressure on HTC:

Me:
The HTC Developers website located at developer.htc.com is missing the HTC Wildfire Froyo Kernel source 2.6.32.21-g4b3e397, which under the
GPL is required to be released.
This is a notice requesting access to the kernel sources for the HTC Wildfire, which at the time of this writing is 2.6.32.21-g4b3e397.
If this is not the correct address to contact, please direct me to someone who can fulfill my request for access to the source which is required under the GPL.

HTC:
I understand how important it is to have this kernel available to you. HTC will typically publish on http://developer.htc.com the Kernel open source code for recently released devices as soon as possible. HTC will normally publish this within 90 to 120 days. This time frame is within the requirements of the open source community. Thank you for contacting HTC. HTC:
Thank you for your reply. As the 2.2 update for the Wildfire has yet to be released, we have 90-120 to release the kernel after the update has been released. Once we have this available we will post it on http://developer.htc.com in accordance with the requirements of the open source community. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any further questions, you can call our Technical Support department at 866.449.8358. This is the same thing like v20g. Someone close this thread or move it outta here.
One must flash KDZ as it used to be with KDZ_FW_UPD.exe

Have you flashed it?

They are not required to include it with the actual software release. They are, however, required to provide it when asked for it. I'm not sure if a timeline is provided in the GPL.
I sent them a message... BTW I doubt they will answer

No, there is no timeline.
(If they provided that with the release, they could have avoided the flood of email in their mailboxes.)
They usually publish the sources here but it might take a while.
This version is working like charm..very fast and smooth. You have to manually configure you APN for data access. Beside this its quite usable.
we should keep the DEV area neat and tidy....post like these should be moved asap to the respective section no matter how much good they do.
ok so as most of you know i have ben busy with the SenseLX rom... but on my spare time i would like to port a froyo rom so i can get some experience on froyo... but my question is where to begin? lol i need to find a fresh source, start from scratch!!! i dont want to use someone elses rom to make my personal changes.. i would rather port my own froyo rom and start from there... so can anyone guide me in the right direction? thank you!!
I am glad someone finally getting the right idea. I definately love to see the progress (when you get the original source code) and might even try the ROM out.
That is why I love my current ROM, the DEV use the original source code from google. So there is no problem attached to it from other DEV.
Good luck on this new ROM.

(not sure if the syntax is correct, I have no time/possibility to check it at the moment, but it's very like to the procedure Terry described in his thread).

The source posted for the T-Mobile version is 2.2.2 right now, but maybe t-mobile is waiting to launch until they have ginger ready?
If you guys use any cut to make a shortcut to "change mms uaprofile" then open the shortcut click on "other" there is an option for the P929 on TMUS you can click that and check out the mms profile xml

It means custom kernels and you can better optimize a ROM build if compiled from source, top to bottom. Mostly, though, custom kernels with full support.
Started looking at kernel source today, would start on building rom from source but i can't connect to android git server it resolves just can never connect don't feel like working around it right now its late and I have no developing beers in the fridge so will work more tomorrow. Gotta have beers or the only thing I will develop is headaches :/ first thing is kernel work for current rom then building android system around new kernel, maybe.... if time permits... GB is so close makes me wonder if it would be worth the effort.....
Just wait for gb bro... Ive been using that rom u uploaded for me to work on.. Well since you sent it to me... I'm fine with that till GB

The thread was not created or maintained by developer, I believe developer is not on XDA at all. At the end the thread was locked due to lack of open source code which user (or the developer) that created the topic failed to provide therefore kernel did not complied with XDA rules, however the kernel development is very swift with a lot of changes and improvements with updates coming every other day.
