i was wondering if anyone knew any good TTS services to make some notification sounds? not sure if there is an app that does it but i like to hear the phone say what i am getting vs a random sound clip (music/sound effects) and just use a mp3/wav/ogg of the item to play. say "MESSAGE" for incomming messages, "GMAIL" for incoming gmail. just examples. some i found online sound like total robots. i know there is apps but ive never tried any so im wondering if anyone knows how i can basically generate my own. a total bonus would be to make it sound like the original DROID robot sound effect for more things like gmail, messages, talk, voice,etc...

I am having a strange issue. When I get a SMS/Text while on a call the system plays the whole text out using text-to-speech, making it impossible to hear the person I am on the phone with. This doesn't happen when I am not on the phone.
Anyone have any idea why this is happening?
edit: looks like something is forcing the "driving" mode (I think). when I change the speech engine, the voice changes...
Hi guys,
I'm looking for an app that say the name of the person that is calling me
I've tried different app but they doesn't work fine on ICS
In case you use Tasker, you can set up something like this in 2 minutes. You just have to tell it to say aloud the caller's name when someone calls you. Might have to do some fine tuning, like lowering the ringtone volume and such.
are you talking about this?

thanks
Yes, it's an extremely useful automatic app. Well worth it's money, it has a lot tons of uses. It has a trial so you might want to try that before buying it.
I bought Enhanced SMS & Caller ID from the market and it works great. It also reads out SMS' without the need for data or wifi connection.
I use it with IVONA Text-to-Speech (Free) on ICS.
I have an annoying issue with my phone and don't know if it can be remedied or not. I am sure that others may have the same issue. If I miss a phone call and the person leaves a voicemail I get four different app notifications. The icons in the notification bar include: missed call icon, email icon with possible transcript of voicemail, text message with possible transcript of voicemail and finally, Google voice icon with transcript and voice recording. I use Handcent for texting, gmail for emails and Google voice for voicemails. I would like to keep Google voice as I like the transcript and voice recording available in one spot. Is there a way to selectively not receive notices for phone calls from specific apps?

i wont be of too much help here, but i can suggest turning notifications off for such things as a bootleg temp fix until you figure it out.
ive never used handscent so that may be it, or more likely an app for transcripting voicemails as that seems to be the common factor here.
hey, I have a quick question for you guys. I have two accounts set up on my gmail. For notifications I put the hangouts message sound for both accounts. Its really weird but after a day or two I noticed not hearing any sound when I get an email. I go into settings and under sound it gives me a random number. for example under sound it would say "3650". I switch them both back to the hangouts message sound. Then after another day or two it goes back to silent and gives another random number under sound. does anyone know whats wrong? has anyone ever had this happened?
must be something wrong with the hangouts app. have you tried assigning a different sound? one that was included with the device?
why would the hangouts app have anything to do with it? im just using the sound. I have not tried any other sound though.

its possible the hangouts sound is being sent to the phone from the play store so it could be getting changed because of the hangouts app being in control of the sound you are selecting. he was just saying that might be an option so you might try changing it to another sound to see if it continues. if it doesn't then something must be happening with hangouts. it might make sense that google changes the hangouts sound on its end and then "ports" it to the phone so they could change the hangouts sound whenever it wants.
OK...couple of issues at play here, I think.
First, I'm on a stock, non-rooted M8 - received the latest OTA update, but the issue(s) I have, I have been having since I started using the phone.
I have Google Voice installed and use it for my voicemail app - I did this on my S3 that I had (rooted, CM10 - I think it was CM10) and it worked great. I'd miss a call, get a voicemail, get a notification...I'd click the notification and it played the voicemail within the dialer app.
On my M8, I miss a call and get a notification for a VM...I click the VM notification and sometimes it does nothing, other times it takes me to my call history/log. No way to play the voicemail. I have to manually clear the notification, and then open the Google Voice app and listen to the voicemail.
FIRST - Is there a way to click the notification and have the voicemail play back natively?
SECOND - Assuming I can't do what I want I have an even bigger issue...Even after I listen to the VM in Google Voice I get notifications that I have new voicemails...They are "new" in that I never listened to them so GV views them as "new" but they're months (years?) old. Typical scenario...I miss a call, get a VM, open up GV and listen to the VM (maybe delete it, maybe not), and go about my business. No VM notifications...until I get a new text message...then my phone goes crazy and dings/beeps something like a dozen times and my VM notification is back. GV is alerting me to "new" VMs that I've long since dismissed the notification for...anything I can do about that?
Thanks!

Unfortunately, that doesn't really fix it...I went through and marked all "unread" as "read" and deleted numerous old Vmails...unless I delete ALL old Vmails, this happens. I could do that - but I sure as **** shouldn't have to do that. It's a bug.
It worked just fine on CM10 (and my GS3) - I'd get the notification when there was a new VM, I'd click the notification, and I'd listen to it in the 'stock' dialer/vmail app with CM10. No persistent notifications.
