I was putting on a new zagg protector and water may have gotten in the trackball but not much. it was working fine then i turned it off. Now when i turn it on my bootloader comes on and i cannot select anything using the volumes buttons or track ball. I cant even turn it off need to take the battery off. I tried to mount it to My pc but not sure what to do for adb commands if I can even mount it. Can someone please help need steps for adb commands if this will even work.

my damaged nexus one screen has progressed to the point of a black screen all the time... i didnt think of it before the screen died, but i am a bit stumped as to how i now reset to clear all my data? i cant see anything on the screen, but the phone still has my google account linked to it.
doh! :-(
reason i want it cleared: may send in for repair and i dont want others to get my info, or i may have to send to insurance company for payout (they said to hang on to phone for now) and i dont want them to see my info, or may sell damaged unit if insurance doesnt pay and i dont want those folks to get my info either.... see the problem?
You can try this. Did a google search.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-general-discussions/28793-how-do-full-adb-wipe-help.html
thanks for the link...would work if id had debugging enabled before the screen died... adb wipes require debugging mode.
any other suggestions?
There's this:
http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
But if you don't have Debugging enabled and can't get it to register when you hit "adb devices" you're probably effed. I don't know much about touch screen engineering, though. Does it still respond to touch as far as you can tell, or is the screen completely dead when the OLED display stops working?
This serves as a good warning for others, though. ALWAYS MAKE SURE USB DEBUGGING IN SETTINGS > APPLICATIONS > DEVELOPMENT IS CHECKED. There's really no good reason I can think of that would ever make you want to leave this unchecked, and this is an example of when it would come in very handy.
cant you use the clear storage function by booting while holding volume down, waiting 5 seconds, then pressing volume down 3 times followed by a press of the power button?

the digitizer still accepted touch input as screen beneath began to fail. colors bled from the cracks and the images began to imprint in the screen... within a few hours, it was completely illegible, and then the next morning, it appeared as a dysfunctional unit with a non working screen.
i will try and methods suggested, but i have no way to verify success... thanks for the sequence.
well when you boot by holding power, your given options FASTBOOT, RECOVERY, CLEAR STORAGE, SIMLOCK
Heres the exact key combination
Boot phone using Volume Dn + Power
Wait 5-10 seconds to be safe
Press Volumn Dn twice
Press Power Btn
Press Volume Up
Phone should reboot after 5 seconds
i will try that... confirmation of success will be the charging LED turning off and then back on again?

of the reboot? ya. i cant imagine doing this without the screen lol. Sorry i couldnt be more help
You could also probably flash a PASSIMG.zip from the bootloader. That will overwrite all partitions so it should make it 100% stock.
It might be harder to do without the screen than the clear storage function though.

tried the method... and i think it worked... i cant verify, but thanks for the help guys.
You can easily verify that by sending yourself an email and see if your phone can get the notification of that new email (by trachball or sound).

Eventually it will stop working all together like mine has.
If you're not bootloader unlocked, then just call htc.
If you are, go ahead and either download an app of the market that will let you skip/disable the lockscreen or use a ROM with trackball wake/unlock built into it.
Also, if you power button stops working altogether, you will probably want to set your screen time out really low.
Finally, if your phone cuts off, the only way I have found to cut it back on is to plug the phone up to a USB cable and let the charging light come on, then remove the battery and as soon as the light cuts off put the battery back in and the phone will cut on.
I can't remember which on it is, either holding the volume down key or the trackball but one holding of those two will allow you boot straight into fastboot instead of hboot, because if you boot into hboot you have no way of accessing any of the other options since your power button is broke, but when you boot straight into fastboot you can at least apply a nandroid. Once I had a rom that broke adb usage and got stuck on the flash screen and I thought I was screwed until I happened to boot into fastboot, so these are just a few tips for you if it quits working altogether on you.
Hello Everyone,
I think I might have bricked my Fascinate using Tasker, but am very hopeful someone here can help.
I wanted to set-up a profile to turn off the volume and screen when my phone was placed face-down, which looked easy enough. First I programmed the volume off and tested it and it worked perfectly. Then I added turning the screen off which also worked perfectly, until I turned the phone face-up and the screen did not turn back on.
I can get the screen to comee on when I call the phone, but only while the phone is face-down, and I can't answer the phone or do anything. NO LED will come on signifing that I missed a call, but when I press the power button to bring up the lock screen NO LED disappears and the phone screen goes black again.
When I plug the phone into the computer via USB, I hear the beep signifing that the pop-up screen asking if I want to mount the sd card, but I can't select anything because...THE SCREEN IS BLACK!!
Thanks in advance for any help,
You should be able to fix it if you have debugging enabled and can use adb. Not sure of the exact method, but it can be done.
If You have usb debugging on you can delete tasker and you should be fine.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I had USB debugging on, but I think I might have turned it off. I really can't remember.
So, if debugging is off, there isn't anything thing else I can do?
Throw water on it and bring it back to VZW...
If you are rooted, this is why its a good practice to make Nandroid backups
My one wont charge or boot. I had it in a pocket in my uniform all day. I only noticed it stop working when I was leaving at the end of the day. I have a black screen and no amount of holding down power or volume keys will do anything. It wont hard reset and I cannot get to the bootloader. I dont get the charging light when I plug it into the computer or charger, however it does get pretty hot as if it is charging. I didnt do any serious software modding to it as I only unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp, and installed ARHD 9.4. Not sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the device is "on" but it's locked up with the screen off. When you're holding down the PWR + VOL DOWN button(for at least ~10-15seconds), are you in a brightly lit room or can you shine at light at the sensor? I know it sounds nuts, but there seems to be some safeguard on HTC's part that it will check the light sensor before rebooting in case the buttons get pushed in your pockets.
Alternatively, plug it into your computer and use ADB(or the All in One Toolkit) to issue the "adb reboot recovery" command.

So i tried it in a very lit room but still nothing. I tried adb before but my computer is not even seeing the device. "adb devices" shows nothing and its not a driver issue because I am running linux and I was able to fastboot and adb this device before.
I was thinking the same thing that its kinda frozen. I never thought that not being able to access the battery would be an issue but in this situation it would be extremly helpfull. Maybe all I can do is wait until I am sure the battery is dead and try and charge it and see if the charging light comes on. This really sucks...

I just had this happen to me and I followed these instructions and held it closer to the light and it came back on.
Well along with the entire world it seems I've done something wrong trying to get 4.3 on my phone. I've been around the block a few times, so I've done all the expected things, but my phone is stuck at the White HTC screen and won't turn off. When this happened the phone was in S-OFF, Relocked, and I was trying to flashback to stock 4.1. Holding down the power button or power button + volume down does nothing but flash the lights. I've held them down for 2-3 minutes with nothing but flashing, no reboot. Hooking the device to the computer recognizes the phone as an MTP device but I think that's just the default for a powered usb port.
With the usb cable connected, the charge light does not come on so it will eventually die when the battery is expended. I don't know that it will recharge, which may be good if I'm going to get sprint to swap it.
Any suggestions?
OK. So I was actually able to get the bright light trick to work, but now I have the issue of trying to get an OS on the phone. TWRP fails ADB sideload because it can't find /data and it won't let me check the mount box. Is there a way to fix the partitions?
Thank you for the PMs everyone. I've got it under control!
