Hi everyone,
I have the Samsung Galaxy s Captivate and I want to upgrade it from 2.1 to froyo 2.2. I understand that ATT has not release it. However, I found this thread and froyo is leaked for everyone.
Here is the thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797282
I was wondering if I need to be rooted in order to do this. If so, what is the most easy and most efficient way of doing it? I also want to get rid of all the ATT bloatware, I hear there is a great rom that gets rid of it.
Thanks for listening I can’t wait for your replies.
Michael.

Hi all,
I have a Telstra i9000T (I'm in Australia, so I need the 850MHz band) and I'm pretty disappointed in the experience after coming from a Nexus One. Does anyone have any suggestions or can anyone confirm any working custom ROMs which can be used on the i9000T safely?
All the reading I've done has seen little mention of the Telstra model, save for the rooting methods and a bit of general stuff. I would ideally like a stock-standard ROM, as I'm not a big fan of TouchWiz (and definitely not the typical Telstra bloat) and had a paid version of LauncherPro on my Nexus, which I loved. I've had no trouble rooting, but haven't tried a lagfix yet as noone seems to know about the i9000T.
I see that CyanogenMod seems to be booting on the Vibrant now, and Bionix was another one I was looking at. Does anyone with an i9000T have any experience (or any luck) with flashing custom software?
Edit: Also, has anyone had any luck with a lagfix on this model? I just tried OCLF and got a 'Permission Denial' error, something to do with sending the 'Flight Mode' command. Is it worth giving Voodoo a crack?
Thanks in advance!
You can try Voodoo for the lagfix, looks like it's the best one so far

Also, Galaxy S is missing a great deal of update / optimisation as of now :| Kind of tricky but I assume waiting for the Froyo update from samsung would give a great boost (and overall better srability). As for the release of thoses updates, speculations says mid october
Many thanks t1, appreciate the tip. I think I'll have a go at Voodoo, it sounds like it does what I'm after.
I am really disappointed in the software of this phone. I've generally always had HTC devices, but decided it may be time to branch out a bit (and I don't mind the design). Kinda makes me wish I hadn't. Haha.
Roll on the middle of October then!
Cheers,
Justin
so is there a definitive answer on when we are getting Froyo in the US without ROMming?
if there isn't where specifically can I get it?
have been looking and cant find it yet
maybe I am just stupid
Not yet. Theres many speculations but best if you like how your phone works and all stick withit. and wait for official update should be soon tho
Hi All
Its good to be on here and I hope that this thread is in the right place. I wanted to thank everyone for all that I gained from reading the forums so far.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S with 8gb on board and a 16gb media card I put in on T-Mobile UK running Eclair 2.1.+samsung software
Here are my questions:
I gather from the forums, that the GPS on the Galaxy either works for people or is doesnt? I want to check whether I have a 'lucky' handset or not, as if i dont I will send it back (had it 3 days) and get a new one that does. How do I do this?
GPS being well, what I want to do, is to optimise the speed, general performance and aesthetic of my phone. Also, I want to newtwok unlock the phone from T-mobile to potentially all carriers.
I want to install a Froyo. Eiether a custom Froyo as the OS (which one is most stable? Or what are the best ones out there at the moment?) or is it worth waiting for over the air or Kies 'official' Samunsg Froyo update from T-mobile?
If I go for the custom ROM, what order should I do this? What about 3 button recovery?
Do I need to root first?
Another couple of questions:
Once this is on board I want to add some UI enhancement and or theme, any recommendations?
Thanking you in advance for your input

Hi, I'm going to buy a Samsung Captivate unlock coz I'm using T-Mobile right now. But before buying it I have some questions to make sure that I'm not gonna regret of buying it.
1. What's version of Android it running ? I know it comes out with 2.1 but somebody said that It already updates to Froyo.
2. Will it be upgraded to Froyo or Gingerbread ? and can I get that update officially with my phone unlocked ?
3. I heard that AT&T restricted the Market and some Apps, so what's exactly that restriction about and can I get rid of that ?
4. Is there any custom ROM for this phone and what's the best ?
I really love the design of this phone and the spec is really good too but I also afraid of the AT&T restriction and the phone's OS won't be upgraded. There is noway I buy a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S coz it looks like the iPhone 3GS's clone .

1. 2.1 comes stock, and that's all that is available officially.
2. Maybe, we hope to get something. If so, you should be able to get it.
3. Yes, there are market restrictions. Go to Captivate, Android Dev sections and there's lots of custom tools for removing restrictions, along with lots of custom ROM's, ie, Phoenix, Cog, Darky, Doc's, etc.
4. See above. I personally like all that I have tried, so I usually flash a few times a week.
You really want a captivate over a nexus s or g2? They're probably better phones.
Yes, like I said I love the design of the Captivate. The Nexus S doesn't use the Gorilla Glass Display that is a negative point make me don't like it. Btw, when I use a new custom ROM, I don't need to unlock my phone again, do I ?
you do realize that when you use a captivate on tmobile, you dont get 3g?
Personally i would jump ALL over the nexus S. Its the captivate on steroids. But DO stay away from the G2....as far as i know its dead past 2.2 because it doesnt have the prerequesites for 2.3 and higher (1ghz processor)

Thanks, I know that, currently I don't use 3G. I'm gonna make a new contract plan next month and I'm gonna get the Dell Venue because I love Windows Phone. However, I love to play with Android too that's why I wanna get one Android phone and I see that the Captivate has a really good design.
So I am likely to be giving my mother in law my Galaxy S as I now have a Galaxy S2.
Now I am wondering what recommendations people have for software I should put on it. Should I put MIUI on it or run it with stock? Her technical skills are somewhat lacking.
You are so kind. If let say Galaxy s 3 available, I'm gladly accept the sgs II one .
IMO, you use stock ROM or custom ROM that close to original samsung ROM.

Don't really have much choice in giving it to her. Wife decided it would be good but I wanted to keep it to play around with. But if I do it at least I am allowed to upgrade my phone later on.
