[Q] Updating a holiday nexus one - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have a Holiday Nexus one and I'm trying to get froyo on it but it didn't update .
Things I've tried:
1) Calling the support HTC line.. they told me to move the date to a future date and wait a couple days... that failed.
2)I've tried manual updating using the bootloader/recovery method but all the files I've tried I get a corrupt/invalid file
3)I've also tried dialing *#*#CHECKIN#*#* on my phone and waiting.. I've done this everyday since I've had my phone (2 weeks)
The guy at HTC suggested I call AT&T and have them push the update to me but I want to know if there's any other options I have? I will try to call them tomorrow but I've a feeling they're not going to be of much help. Thanks in advance.
Also I saw the thread on this forum but the files were corrupt so maybe I can get a new link or something maybe?
Any help appreciated thanks

Carrier: AT&T

Holiday Nexus? And you're looking to update? Are you serious?
Boot into fastboot
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery <download and put Amon_RA's 1.9.0-alpha here>
fastboot reboot recovery
Download FRF91 stock PASSIMG
Copy to SD card
Install through recovery
Reboot
You're done, wait for 2.2.1 update.
Or instead, just download a custom ROM of your choice, which might prove a much better option.
Whenever you feel you don't like the lock sign, fastboot oem lock

[Q]Restore HTC G1 to Dev device from DREAIMG.nbh flash

I wanted to turn my HTC Dream Dev phone into a Wifi Tether. I followed the Wiki article and did not realize that I had flashed a T-Mobile .nbh file. I want to restore the Dev Phone back to its original state and remove T-Mobile from my Dev Phone. I removed the T-Mobile.nbh setup file from my SD card, but the device is still booting the T-Mobile Android launch.
It is a 2008 European HTC Dream. I have loved this phone for years. Please help me.
I have searched google for hours now, and no tangible help. I am not a computer science expert and perhaps my search was amateur at best.
What you might need to know:
I had no recovery, backup.
I have AT&T gophone SIM in my Dev before I flashed it.
The Link:
Wiki: -.- cannot post
Question: How do return back to the orginal Dev device and remove the TMOBILE .nbh boot
You can try orange.nbh and place it on your sdcard. Boot while holding camera just like your dreaming .nbh
If thisnt isn't good enough you can either
Flash dev rom from fastboot (must have proper spl)
Flash dev rom from recovery (may not work with curent recovery probably need to flash amonra etc)
By the way you can find the official developers rom (presumibly what you had in xda - search in the dev threads) if you can't find it ill post a link next time I'm by a computer)
Not sure why you want to go back to this as there are many other roms far superior to that old dev rom

I will address the other suggestions tomorrow with proper response.
I do not know anything about programming or modification of cellular technology, however I believe working 10 hours on a problem qualifies me to have a simple understanding.
I tried using the orange.nbh, however the Firmware, Radio and possible other additions did not match the current setup.
I cannot utlize FastBoot on my phone because I do not have proper tutorial information, moreover I tried <enter>something.adb.enable 1<enter> that too failed. I will look for the dev rom first thing in the morning. I have tried to learn how to use fastboot via youtube videos and large forum threads. I hope this will help me tomorrow.
There are better rom(s) out there? Please suggest, I just want to remove a provider restriction from my unlocked Dev phone. I should have never have followed the Wiki. I was happy with no provider and using various gophone SIM cards when plans became cheaper.
I just want this stifling .nph file off my system and back to original dev. If I am feeling bold, I will try to wifi tether my dev phone again.
Thank you for such a quick reply. I am very much in your debt.
Once your phone is sim unlocked (yours was a dev phone so it was) it always will be. The reason changing roms sometimes won't allow you to use other providers is a problem with he apn. Settings and you will have to mannualy change them. Find any rom you like and if your sim won't work then you need to change those apn settings.

After Flash, my phone reads as:
DREA110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.261
Where do I find and how do I install the proper credentials, so my phone is back to the Orange ROM or the ROM you recommend. Thank you again.
I know my phone is not rooted, I tried just downloading a WiFi tether app weeks ago and nothing happened.
Well it was rooted as a dev phone, by flashing the dreaming.nbh you unrooted your phone and downgraded your firmware, radio, spl, and recovery. You now need to upgrade all of this. Sim is still unlocked though.
Continue following those steps in the wiki, but it looks like you may need to flash dreaming.nbh again for it looks as if you update your radio since the first flash

I cannot access any normal user interface. I do not have any access to the phone, is it still possible to install fastboot and update without accessing the basic interface on the phone? i.e Settings.
Step 1: Flash DREAIMG.nbh
Step 2: Flash Firmware
Step 3: Flash Radio
Step 4: Flash SPL
Step 5: Flash Recovery
Please edit my terminology if not correct. I know nothing about computers and I am about to pull my hair out. The guides are for someone who has experience with computer software installation from a terminal. I do not.
Would it be better to just get a T-Mobile SIM card and work from there?
My Windows 7 OS is not recognizing my HTC G1 as a mass storage device. Error in reading device properties, may be corrupt.
Windows isn't recognising phone because you need the proper drivers. If you don't want to use adb and fastboot that's ok you don't have to.
Steps-
Put files needed on root of sd card
All will be found in that cyanogen how to root wiki
Dreaming.nbh, radio, danger spl, and amonra recovery
1 boot phone while holding camera (it will find dreming.nbh and say yes after about 5min it will finish and say done
2 boot into phone normally, sign in, download telnet from market
From home screen hit "enter" twice then type "telnetd"
Then open telnet and hit enter then type "flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
When done you get ##
3boot into recovery holding home while powering on here you can flash radio hboot and rom
4 flash radio
5 flash spl
6 flash rom (and gapps if needed)
Your done!

That Wiki is what caused the problem in the first place. I have been going back and forth between this guide, the fastboot guide, and the xda-develop guide.
SDK manager does not recognize G1 as the mass storage device. It does not recognize it at all, I cannot run the bypass WiFi. I do not have a T-Mobile provider account and cannot log in to GMail via AT&T SIM.
I have been doing this song and dance for the last 10 hours. I am really frustrated. Should I just buy a T-Mobile SIM card?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417962
heres an old post that a couple of us @ xda helped with your same problem
it has all the steps needed within it (including a how to without tmobile sim)
i have some school work to do right now but if i get some more time ill check back
for now read through it and youll be happy - everything is explained throughout - ask me again if you need more help

I was able to follow the help on the thread you previously posted, however on p. 4 there is a slight problem. Both the SDK Manager and FastBoot are installed on my computer. I also installed HTCSync.
Location:
C:\android-sdk-windows
C:\android-tools
However, the computer still does not recognize my HTC G1. I have included in PATH ;C:\android-tools
The terminal does not recognize any location. I have Windows 7 OS.
If you didn't manually point to the drivers windows may have guesses so try plugging the phone in and seeing which driver pops up and then change it to the proper one. Also if you type adb from the cnd make sure it looks good, if it says no such directory you didn't set the patch correctly

The terminal closes and does not stay open.
Direct file location of abd.exe also force closes.
If this is normal, please let me know.
Not normal, you need to change the enviromental variables. If you can't find the right value then erase what you put in the path. Then go to folder adb is in, hold down shift and right click, then click open cmd here. Type adb
A long list should now pop up - that's good

[Q] razr i problems - fastboot menu

Hi guys, I am having an issue i cant seem to resolve on my razr i. apologies if this has already been covered in another thread (or 10, which is usually the way with these things because nobody reads the other threads) I have been through a load of other threads but cannot seem to resolve my issue so i started my own.
Right, I have switched from iphone to razr and am not stupid when it comes to jailbreaking etc so thought rooting the razr wouldnt be a problem. when trying to root it it failed and i am stuck at the fastboot menu, however, everything on the menu is disabled so i cant use it. i get the usual message:
fastboot reason: flash failure
fastboot max download size: 100mb
usb connected
if i try to use anything on the menu i get the following message:
fastboot menu disabled.
my phone is not unlocked and not rooted. i have barely done anything to it other than install a couple of free apps. i am unable to progress past this screen. the phone is GB and is on 4.0.4
any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. again, apologies if this has already been covered, none of the solutions i found were able to resolve my issue. as i said, i had no problems jailbreaking my old iphone, i am a bit of a n00b when it comes to droids...

Are you able to run fastboot commands ? Cause in that case you might be able To unlock bootloader and reflash the software .

**edit

Had the same problem, I used the recommendation in this thread, 5th post and it worked, but afterwards need to re-download apps from PlayStore:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36612151
Follow the instructions exactly - you need the drivers and RSD lite on Windows PC, then connect the phone via usb cable that came with it; and you'll need a full unzip program (cost) so you can move the unzipped files into RSD lite. Get the right flash file though - there's a list in the linked post if you don't want GB retail which I used. Important: this only works for ICS 4.0.4 and don't try to downgrade to an earlier version than what's currently on your phone e.g. v.39 to v.31, for example.
Good luck.
AW: [Q] razr i problems - fastboot menu
If the solution from mervluk does not work (It didn't work for me either) , you should try if you are able to use the fast boot commands .
To do that simply connect your phone to the PC. Then download fast boot , if you do not already have that. It is in the .zip from the RAZR I root thread.
The go to the downloaded folder. There hold shift and perform a right mouse click. Then choose" start a command prompt here "or something similar (don't know how the option is called in English).
Then type in
fastboot reboot
When the phone reboots you might be able to unlock your phone and flash the software.
BUT BE AWARE! YOU WILL LOSE YOUR WARRANTY!!
So you better try the other solution first. This should be your last option.
If you don't know how to unlock the bootloader look in the RAZR I forum or pn me .

Glad about that. This phone can be a bit of a so-and-so. ics is being updated ota to Jelly Bean 4.1.2, which I've avoided so far to keep fm (although not activated on the supplied software). I did succeed with unlocking the bootloader (loose warranty - important) following the whole complicated procedure on Moto's website - but couldn't myself use the shortcuts on here. (Then had to set up again and re-download everything from the PlayStore). It required the Moto-supplied key. I then rooted, though I think the JB ota download unroots again? You can't use RSD lite with JB.
With JB the procedures are different, and a modified JB European (not for use with GB) firmware is now available on another thread which is impressing some posters. But I think just be a bit cautious as there does not appear to be any fix for the "service code corrupt" bootloader error yet. Looks like the options are very restricted whilst no-one understand the interaction between Google Android and the intel atom chipset.
I have a network unlock key from one of the commercial suppliers (cellunlocker.net), but haven't needed to try and use it yet!

bootloader not allow

I have T-Mobile G1 . I suffered a lot from the old 1.0 android . specially when I wipe my phone
today I flashed a cupcake official rom . but I am stuck on the activation screen
i tried this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098899
but I CAN'T FLASH THE BOOTLOADER IMAGE . always it says . checking .......... not allow . then it returns to the rainbow screen
I tried all the DREAIMG.nbh images I found on the internet . the same message
I need to know what I did wrong?
I only flashed an update.zip package . may it raised my firmware no . but why this deny my trials to downgrade ? I did before smoothly . but now noooo
the problem is when I tried to write down the code <enter>setprop persist.service.adb.enable 1<enter> nothing happened . but before it worked with me
Do I need to goldcard?
please help me . I am turning angry from this phone
Firstly wrong section, this should be in general section not dev section, remember that for next time you post
Secondly - the standard hboot on 1.5 won't let you flash an unsigned/unchecked boot loader so you don't brick your device
Thirdly, there is a guide on skipping activation, follow that, it let's you enable ADB, then let's you enable wifi so you can login to a Google account without mobile data, the command you typed only enables ADB - it wont do anything else, you need ADB on your PC to open WiFi settings
I suggest you try using the 'Search' function on xda to find the guide on that
I know some people struggle with the concept of a search function so try this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452316
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app
If you are on Android 1.5, you could also use *flashrec* to flash a custom recovery and then flash the appropriate radio & bootloader images from there. If you would like to go for the "new" radio/bootloader combination (Radio: 2.22.28.25 SPL: 1.33.0013d) to get additional 14MB of memory, follow Terry's instructions (a link you can find in my signature).
If you are not able to get the phone running and you want to flash the dreaimg.nbh, you need to have a goldcard because the bootloader is checking the signature.

[Q] HTC first Restrictive access changed.

but as i am not that much familiar will you xda guys just give short note how to do this.
In bootloader mode (after pressing volume down and power) there is a menu sim lock, is it ok ?
It could be a result of flashing a dirty rom meaning that you didn't do a factory reset before and/or after flashing the ROM. The sim lock could be a result of flashing the ROM, because I think it's able to "re-lock" the sim.

Do not fret from the restrictive access popping up in the status bar as that's only an HTC component monitoring what's happening in your phone. As for the simlock that will be there always, you might not have noticed this before because it's only shown in fastboot but not the boot loader itself. It is impossible for the Sim to relock itself with a ROM flash as that has to due with the deeper bottom layer security on the phone. Your Sim is not locked but I do suspect that you might have messed up the phone's radios from a dirty flash. What I suggest now using is the sense 5 ROM if you personally like sense (which I don't because stock is days faster) and note that if you use the sense 5 ROM only the specific kernel the depelover made for it will work. Other kernels will result in Bluetooth and WiFi being broken. The steps are these:
In cwm Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, system, then do a factory reset. Proceed then to flash your ROM of liking. Then flash the kernel (specifically for sense 5):http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2744735
Proceed to then enter boot loader mode (note that if you're s-off you're done and can now boot normally and do not need to complete this step, though if you don't know what that is chances are you're not s-off) and select fastboot. Now extract the boot.IMG from the kernel and flash it using the command "fastboot flash boot boot.IMG"

Help for a noob

Hello, firstable congratulations to everyone to made an awesome forum, page, etc...
Im from Mexico and I have a HTC one M8 Sprint and I use it on GSM band
a guy sold me with a program named teamwin this program appears when I try to install the new version
I already have the 4.4.3 android version, 6.0 sense and 2.16.651.4 sofware version
and my doubt is can I make any modd to my celphone? I guess that's sounds pretty obviously but I'm new on the topic
I remember I can modd a sony ericsson telephones (like w600) but now Im so noob on the celphone topics.
I like learn new things and I only asking for your help, maybe if you can help me I appreciate that

Hold down power and vol up for several seconds to force a reboot. The moment the screen goes dark to reboot, let go of those buttons and only hold vol down. Don't let go, until you see a white screen with various info on it. This it the bootloader. If the phone simply reboots to OS or Safe Mode, you just had bad timing of the button combo. Repeat the process until you see the bootloader screen.
On the bootloader screen, does it say RELOCKED, UNLOCKED, or LOCKED near the top?
Does it say Software modified, or official?
Does it say s-off or s-on?

You need to update the firmware, to do much of any mods (like current ROMs).
You can do so by either:
1) Finding the proper stock nandroid and stock recovery, then OTA update to latest version.
2) Relock the bootloader, and use latest Sprint RUU (will wipe the phone).

In your first post, you ask about doing mods. Now you are saying you are afraid to. So I have no idea what your comfort level, what you are willing to accomplish, etc.
As long as you are willing to learn, put in some time reading and understanding, and follow instructions carefully, there isn't much to be afraid of. Any mods to the phone involve some risk. But the risk of permanent damage (a true "brick") are minimal. The worst that is likely to happen, is the phone fails to boot, and you may need to troubleshoot for an hour to 2 to get it back running. But that happens to just about anyone that mods phones, at some time or other. Its just part of the game.
But in the phone's current condition, something needs to be done by you, in order to update the phone in any way; whether it be by official means (RUU or OTA) or custom ROM. Otherwise, it will be stuck on Android 4.4.3 as it is now.

Not sure what you are asking, are you wondering if any additional hardware is needed? You will need a computer for either method I stated, plus the sync cable that came with the phone (or other charge/data cable). PC is required for Method #2.
Yes for sure Im reading the past days about the topic and the fears I guess its for my phone became to an expensive brick, but I want to do this, I sent you a PM and I read your answer sorry for do that.
And finally about the last quote, I mean the M8 its originally sprint (on the starts screen says) so I want to know if its possible make the unblock totally to use on any company of the world or the country (Mexico) above than GSM, maybe 3G or in the best way 4G

So it sounds like you already using the phone on Movistar, just not with 3G or 4G?
There is a mod to unlock bands, which seems to work on your Sprint CDMA version (from what I understand). But it requires s-off ($25 by sunshine app) and is a slightly more complicated mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/unlock-bands-qualcomm-device-phone-t2880239
So if you are unsure about doing what I've previously described; the mod to unlock bands is definitely the next level beyond that. Mods done with s-off are more risky, and can actually brick the phone (render it permanently unusable).
Whatever you do, do NOT try to flash another carrier/region versions radio, firmware, RUU, etc. in an attempt to change the band support. You may see some recommendations to that effect. But this does NOT work on the Sprint version, and will probably BRICK your phone.
Sorry I think I don't give my idea correctly, my English is not good.
I wonder if you can make my htc have the most updated software and if it is possible to use other phone network than the GSM because since I buyed (used) has the same software, the same HTC Sense and I could only use the internet GSM mobile network
My phone is
m8_WHL PVT SHIP S-ON *Unlocked*
So I would like to write the correct idea because your help it's usefull for me
really I appreciate your help and therefore not want to lose by confusion or my bad english
then I hope this time to let me know if this is better for your
I'm trying to do my best

Updating the software is a completely separate matter from the phone's band support (3G and LTE bands the phone is compatible with).
I already told you how to update the software, in Post #4 above.
To see if the phone will work with your carrier's 3G or LTE network, you first need to know what 3G and 4G band (or bands) they use for each. Can't really do anything without that basic info. Either research online, or call your carrier and ask them. This is something you should have done before buying the phone; as changing to the proper band support is not always possible.

The band works on 850/1900, while 4G LTE conection use band 4 - LTE AWS frecuency of 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz.
I work today on the software ( the most important for me )

Sprint M8 supports 3G bands 850 and 1900.
Are you sure you entered your carrier's APN info correctly?
Did you try the SIM card in another phone, to make sure the SIM works for 3G?

yes I use the right APN settings but when I bought the guy who sold it to me also told me it was unblock for any company here in Mexico but the problem is that you could not upgrade because when the file is downloaded and is installed, the phone enters into recovery mode and can not be or I do not know if it's my mistake, you can not install at all
He say that if I upgrade or modify the phone I can lose part of the unblock of the phonel and it became unusable here in Mexico
I screwed a lot
I don't know what I did wrong on the process of re-stock the phone and now don't start.
only shows the white screen with HTC green logo.
I rememberd when I try to wipe I check all the options and "I swipe to wipe" later when the phone will be reboot
shows me a message about the superU and I install (because already has it)
I was scared and search about this and only found a way to enter on bootloader and says this
*Tampered*
*Relocked*
Well, 6 hours later I have this now:
*Tampered*
**Unlocked**
m8_WHL PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-3.18.0.0000
OS-2.16.651.4
eMMC-boot 2048MB
but when I unlock the bootloader (here's the tutorial of bootloader http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader)
I see the recovery mode once but when I try to do the next step (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2755657)
I can not start the recovery mode and I don't do any of progression
Also I can see an message saying me the phone hasn't any OS file so I guess that's the reason I can make it start, only turn on and shows the same white screen with HTC logo, I can entered to Bootloader and FASTBOOT but when I select recovery the phone returns to HBOOT and when I turn off and later turn on happen the same (entered directly to HBOOT screen)
Im a bit concerned about that I hope you can teach me how
*Edited now I can enter to recovery I relocked and unlocked again and I can enter again to recovery and bootloader, please help me to put the files of OS
maybe with a SD card?
Return to stock
Hi Erbat,
first of all it would be nice to get an overview of your device and its versions, you can do this by doing the fastboot command "fastboot getvar all"
The most important version wich you already have is your OS 2.16.651.4, everything what you try to flash to your device if you want to return to stock should match this number or it will mostly fail.
So at this point forget about the Guide with official OTA updates and root access, because its for 4.16.401.10 and you should mainly focus on returning to stock without root to get new updates (easier)
I dont know how much knowledge you already have but just to mention:
Every OS with 2.16.651.4 is for your Sprint version, this means all of the files without 651 will lead in the wrong direction.
Later when you use a RUU ("official" files to return to stock firmware) or a nandroid backup (stock backup created by other users), the files and backups you will find have to match exactly to your OS Version 2.16.651.4 to work.
So at the moment you should focus on returning your device back to stock firmware and OS first, after that you can recieve official OTA updates from HTC :good:
The tutorials/threads you should focus on are mainly these two:
[GUIDE][S-ON] Restore your (European) HTC One M8 back to stock
[tutorial] How to get back on stock with TWRP Stock Nandroid Backups
Edit: You can't use your recovery, because if i understood this right you got TWRP (a custom recovery) before and might have corrupted/deleted it, simply flash the newest version of TWRP 2.8.7.0 with the fastboot command "fastboot flash recovery *NAME-OF_RECOVERY*.img"
TWRP: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/225/
(If i got anything wrong pls correct me ^^)

I know it looks pretty bad for a "noob" if he got no OS on his device and it won't boot anymore, but don't worry as long as you get your phone into fastboot mode you can fix everyting :fingers-crossed:

I can't do anything on cmd, my phone hasn't battery today and when I try to do fastboot getvar all say wating for your device and yesterday obviously don't say this
I need wait to 30%? I guess I have readed this before
Charge it up, restart everything (pc) and try again. You can use "fastboot devices" wich will list all devices connected in fastboot mode (ofc you must choose fastboot in bootloader menu first)
Next could be that you have HTC sync active witch might block something -> uninstall HTC sync
Otherwise you might have driver problems, if so, uninstall htc drivers and sync and reinstall HTC sync to get new drivers. -> uninstall sync only again (maybe reboot)
If all this does not work search for specific fastboot drivers for the M8 and try it with them

You should never wipe any of the partitions in the TWRP "Advanced" menu, unless you know exactly that they mean, and what the result will be (those options are called "Advanced" for good reason!). Even if the phone was properly working before, what you did was to wipe the OS (system partition) and make it stop working!
Further, you wiped any backup files and personal data that may have been on internal storage or the removable SD.
Simple rule when modding the phone: Do not experiment or make up your own solutions (will almost always fail and possibly make matter worse); and only do exactly what is directed to you from the proper guides, reputable "helpers", etc.

Can't help you, if you don't tell us exactly what you did: step by step, in specific detail, with links to the files you are trying to use, exact file names, etc.
If you don't tell us what you did, we can't see what you did wrong.

This guide has nothing to do with returning to stock, and is not for your version of the M8.
Nothing good can come of this; for what you are trying to do.
If you didn't know what you were doing, you should have stopped and asked. Learning and reading is good (and I applaud the effort), but don't do anything unless you are sure about it. In your case particular (due to your lack of knowledge/experience) I'd recommend not do anything unless we specifically direct you to. You seem to be going down the wrong roads, and just want to make sure we mitigate that now.

The phone needs to be powered on, and in bootloader-fastboot mode for any fastboot commands to work.
Charge the phone for a few hours, and try again.
We need to get fastboot working, to move forward at all.
