Might not work.
Know from previous samsung phones that you can permanently brick your camera by doing the same.

I did reflash JM8 again with odin but still no luck for some reason

ok i got it fixed, had to flash back to JG8 now my touch key fw is 0x02 and part's touch key fw version is 0x2 , i wonder why doesnt it work earlier when i reflash JM8

Some firmwares do not modify some files. Like only JPC messed with nvdata. Probably thats why.

dawen, this thread belongs in the Q&A section, not in development. Take a moment and read the "STOP!! Before you post, read this NOW!!" thread at the top of both of these sections, it has clear guidelines for proper thread placement.

I have seen a few threads about how to get into recovery mode with the captivate...but why is there no [HOW TO] thread on it? Well some people are claiming JPH is final... which if true- is tragic. It's snappy but rather bug-laden, just use it for a couple days, especially if you use exchange, you'll run into a rather huge bug pretty quick

I have been messing with JPH for awhile, can't get good reception with it and can't seem to be able to flash a different modem.bin to it so I'm done with it for now.

what I like is the proof from xcalibur about how quickly you can take an i9000 kernel and make it work with the captivate (ideally that means the kernel can be built off the same source with just slightly modified config files and repointing the differences to the proper place).
that means we could arrive at a 2.2 kernel for the Captivate (unlikely, but possible) with just the 2.2 i9000 release

well there a UGJH2 modem for the i9000 which will give you HSUPA. UCJH2 is a captivate firmware with a non-HSUPA modem (but was designed for our hardware)... JH2 from the i9000 though is from a phone that uses the same frequency as ours though I believe, so it should work the same but with HSUPA enabled

i believe with 2.2 you need 513
I used the 803 pit, but I don't think it ultimately matters, and yes you MUST use the UGJH2 modem. JG8 does NOT WORK, for some reason it isn't Froyo capable but the newer JH2 one is
513 pit shouldn't be necessary for any of the new Froyos, only 512 or 803, though I'm fairly certain they both work

Yup, but in order to do so you have to flash in a Captivate kernel, use button combos to get into recovery, run the update.zip, and flash back to the JPH kernel before booting fully- it's a pain

Home key and prox sensor (screen not turning off on call) can't be resolved, they're kernel issues. Don't bother pushing files, all you'll do is cause graphical errors and touch screen problems- trust me. I know.
Put the root update on your /sdcard, flash stock captivate kernel, use button combos, install update package, then reflash JPH kernel (search the I9000 boards, they've got a thread about rooting that has a JPH kernel in it).

I also think the "JPC disaster" we're referring to was the forcing it to show up as a korean phone (and therefore unable to receive later updates) and the thrashing of the els (I think) folder which contained our unlock information. causing even carrier locked phones with the correct carrier SIM cards to be non-functional.
caught a lot of people off guard with an essentially unusable phone if they didn't have the unlock code already. basically it was a terrifying moment for a lot of i9000 users (I think even Zilch lost a phone in the process of playing with JPC?)

[Q] Bought second hand sgs and it has 2.2...

Hi all,
I bought a second hand SGS and it has 2.2 froyo
How can i put it back to normal 2.1 android please?
i dont want root or anything...
can any1 help? ill put a few quid in your paypal if you can take the time to guide me through it?
Well, you could always just goto settings and initiate a factory reset... You'll lose root and revert back to the stock eclair 2.1 ROM.
where is that option?
i found sd card and phone storage and
internal sd card format option
i notice another option in privacy that says factory data reset. but that looks like it might be just personal data reset not full reset thingy,
if what your saying works i will be very happy!

Why else would it be called FACTORY reset ? It would be the firmware provided with the phone, which would be eclair as opposed to the froyo build he received on a rooted second hand phone.
The option is in settings-> privacy-> factory data reset
You can't get Froyo without flash to a froyo ' factory' firmware. In this case, A beta firmware. Whenever you flash to a new firmware, you lost your old firmware completely.

1. Download odin,
2. Download the needed firmware files from Samsung firmwares,
3. Phone off. Vol down, menu, power
4. Add pit512/513 (can't remember which), pda, modem, csc in odin
5. Tick re-partition
6. Connect phone to pc
7. Click start and wait for your phone to restart
All done, This is just a quick and rough guide how to do it, there's a much better guide on this forum what to do and how
do you kno where the firmware files are exactly? i cant search the forums for the guide.. search function is down.
A quick look and you'll find 'forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596'
For firmwares, a quick Google 'samfirmware' you'll need to sign up to access the files in the firmware section That's if there not in the above link
the first one you must to do is download the firmware file through the internet,
then download the drives and odin and pit512 file,
and then install the drives ,then run the odin, select the re-partition,in pit, select the pit512,in pda, select the firmware which named with pda,in modem and csc is also select the firmware named with modem and csc,
shut down your phone then press vol- ,home ,power at the same time, you will see a android ,
connect your phone with the pc,
when the com is turn green ,press start.and wait..after you flash the firmware, you should format the sdcard and wipe your data..
thanks guys
i think ive sorted it, but still seem rooted somehow
is this the right firmware?
2.1-update1
basedband version I9000XXJM4

Depending on what country you are in, there are diferent firmwares.
Download odin from that page aswell.

From my understanding you won't be getting Froyo OTA, you will be getting it via KIES. But with all the modding going on I doubt KIES will let you so you like everyone else here will have to get it installed via ODIN, no big deal at all . Just check back xda when froyo is in news for sgs

I advice you to check if the 3 Button Combo works on your Phone. If not, apply the 3 Button SBL Fix before messing with ROMs to help recover the device in case of a brick.

[Q] Did the Froyo update fix 3-button combo? (only answer if you had 3B disabled B4)

as you mentioned
the 3 button SPL fix release, was a special release that only came out for Canadian customers.
it was never released internationally to other models/countries
thanks to the XDA community we made it available to everybody
so... with that in mind, how high do you think are the chances of the SPL fix being included in Froyo?

I would appreciate your help and time spent in giving me some tips or better yet solutions to solve this issue. Thanks.
More info: Any customization ie. rooted, lagfixed, custom roms?
I used s1_odin_20100512.pit after that my phone turned off giving me the messages i just explained.
Not that familiar with 2.2.1, but I would make the assertion that you should not be using PIT files to ROM flash unless you need to change the partitions. You should be using PDA files. You will probably need to search for the proper PIT and PDA files for stock 2.1 or 2.2 and flash those. Are you able to see the phone via ODIN?
Exactly what kind of phone do you have. Is it a captivate or I9000?

Ok well the captivate is not an i9000 it is an i897, so you are in the wrong place. Also might be why if you used odin files set for the wrong device. I would look into getting a jig.
it is an i897. However, after upgrading to 2.2 and rebooting the phone, i would see a screen saying that it was an i9000. So what you think is that i installed the wrong adin files? great!!
what does a jig would do to my phone?

How did you update to 2.2? if you used the new update you would not have gotten and i9000 screen unless it is a custom rom, A jig will force it into download mode.
If you can get a jig to get you into d/l mode, check out this thread to get you back to normal.
I'm sure you can find some sources for the jig in this thread, but if you prefer to try to make one, yourself, look here.
This may be a handy thread for you, too.
I got the update from Samsung Kies. I got that screen after rooting my phone.
i did three things: update from 2.1 to 2.2, root my phone, and attempted to upgrade to 2.2.1.

Ok if Keis updated your phone to 2.2 with the i9000 screen then you dont have a i897 captivate. you have the i9000. mainly sense there is no keis upgrade for 2.2.1 for the captivate.
I was using odin to update to 2.2.1 and ended up bricking my phone!!
I had to use PDA instead of PIT as you said previously!!

Ok then there is no way Keis updated you to the 2.2 with the i9000 screen, that comes from a custom rom. Get a jig and boot into download mode, if all the other methods have failed and flash back to stock with odin. Oh and all the 2.2.1 roms are custom roms normally used with CWM flashes. Might need to do a little be of research and spend a few hours reading up to make sure this doesnt happen again.
Thank you SO MUCH!!! I really appreciate the time you spent helping me.
And yeah i will do that definitely, that's the moral of the story.
Again, THANK YOU!
Ok I was trying to flash new rom...so I flashed to stock...but after the process finished in Odin...and it showed Reset....my phone should have rebooted right? But it didnt reboot...just got dead...I removed everything and tried to start it no use...even used jig...but its no responsive...I am not panicked (as it was my experimentation phone)...but trying to find what to do in that case...battery was full too....

Should i use Odin? Will this brick anything if it goes wrong?
Damnit i'm in trouble
right ! chill out, take a breath lol you will be back to normal before you no it !!
first of all, go to www.samfirmware.com to get the firmware you need.
put the downloaded files in the correct boxes using Odin.
If the firmware comes in 3 files, Use 512 PIT and check re-partition
hit start, wait for the pass sign and your done !!
You need the jm1 firmware from samfirmware.com, use the flashing instructions on their site using odin.its very simple, just take your time. Jm1 is a low level firmware for 2.1 which will enable you to upgrade to the latest offering via kies making your phone completely stock and "legit".
It will remove the 3 button recovery and download mode which you can restore using instructions elsewhere but I guess that is the least of your worries for now and is the price for going back to eclair.
Good luck and take your time.

once you flash it, sometimes you need to restore your csc code using *#272* Imei # .
once you done that, your phone will be like new, and kies will recognize it, and you will be able to upgrade it via Kies.
You say that you saved the original rom .

and why would your friend want 2.1? doesn't even support flash...
You should tell your friend to flash JS8 android 2.2.1 it will make the sgs alot better
