Help me troubleshoot my SDCard errors! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Like many other users on this forum, I am having trouble with my i9000M sdcard after doing some ROM flashing.
Although there is some extensive threads collecting the different situations people are experiencing, I was hoping I could get some help for a specific circumstance relating to the sdcard issue.
I'll start by..
- Detailing the firmwares I have flashed, and what happened
- What is working / not working now, and how I got to get to the current situation
- And finally, I'll detail what I'm trying to do and where I'm getting stuck.
I would really appreciate some help with this, and thank anyone who takes the time to read it. I am trying to be very thorough to give you as much information as possible.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Started with stock firmware. I am not sure what it was.. I believe the phone is equivalent to the Bell i9000M, but I am on the SaskTel carrier.
2. Flashed firmware I9000XXJP2: This worked, and I was using Froyo 2.2 fine.
3. Tried to root Froyo 2.2 firmware: This FAILED and the trouble began. I was using the update.zip method, and the source claimed it was compatible with 2.2. I had to hard reboot the phone, but it would stall on the white text intro screen (not the animated one).
4. Went into Download mode. Tried to flash firmware I9000UGJH2 (apparently the most current bell firmware), using Odin v1.1. This FAILED, and I had to hard reboot, which resulted in the PHONE - ! - PC error. I am aware the i9000M can still be recovered from this state.
NOTE: I could do nothing at this point: all firmware flashes failed, UNTIL I CHANGED TO ODIN V 1.3!
Using Odin v.1.3:
5. Flashed a series of firmwares.. (I9000UGJG8, I9000XXJM1, I9000XWJG5), ALL resulted in the phone either being in a shutdown-boot loop to the white Glaxaxy text screen, or the battery charging screen.
I could enter Download mode to reflash, but NOT recovery mode.
6. The ONLY semi working firmware is I9000XXJP2, Samsung Froyo 2.2. This is what the phone is now.
- I CAN enter Download mode, Recovery mode, and the phone stalls on the white Galaxy boot screen, but goes no further, and does not restart.
- I CAN run abd commands
Here is the output I get from each of the options in the Recovery mode:
Code:
I9000XXJP2
Odin 1.3
512.pit
Flashes fine
Goes into recovery mode
Displays error:

Same errors as 1) can't mount sdcard therefor installation fails.
Reboot system:
- Will accept adb download reboot
note: I can reach download mode using the button combination
- recovery mode: can access with button combination or 'adb reboot recovery'
- power off: battery charging indicator shows
note: it does not loop the battery indicator
- power on: stalls at Galaxy S GT-19000 white lettering screen.
note: i recieve an indication on windows desktop that a device has been connected which is capable of USB high speed point
ADB COMMANDS WORKS: device is detected
Things I have tried:
I tried booting into a Ubuntu Live cd to see if I could format the sdcard, as suggested in this thread: (sorry, forum won't allow me to hyperlink, thread id=759910)
The disk utility picked up the Samsung drives (One was labeled something like Samsung_Galaxy, and the other Samsung_Galaxy sdcard, but I'm not 100%) but could not format them. There was also no info being listed about the size.
Things I would like to try / have hunches on:
Before all this happened, I made a Nandroid backup of the orriginal firmware, and copied it from the i9000's sdcard to my computer. I made the backup using Rom Manager's Clockworkmod.
Is there a way to use Odin to flash Clockworkmod, so I can restore this backup?
-everything out there says to use Rom Manager, which I can't access because the phone is pseudo dead.
Will the backup even still be on my sdcard?
Wait, my sdcard isn't mounted.. can we try mounting it with abd? (I tried, but am not sure of the command / path of how to do this..
Can abd be used to restore my backup stored on my computer? Is this dependent on the sdcard being mounted?
I fully appreaciate those you take the time to read through this as it is rather lengthy. I just want to ensure I have tried every means to revive the device, and hopefully some more skilled users can help with the mounting and adb syntax.
All comments and ideas are welcome and appreciated! Thank-you

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But time and time again this error has proven to be a hardware error. Mine did the same thing and samsung/bell had to replace the mainboard in my phone. Good luck, but unfortunately, anything you do further is a waste of time short of sending it back for repair.

[Q] Sprint P100 can not wipe

Hi All:
My Sprint Tab P100 got some strange problems.
It's a second hand P100, Once i turn on the tab, it will warning with 3 Beebee, and nook & Amaza Mp3 & Market will report error.
Below warning will show up:
Amazon MP3_nook
“The application XXX has stopped unexpectedly, pls try again”
Market
"Attention:
An Error has occured, Please try again later."
After check, i found the original usr information still there.
(Gmail/Facebook account will try to sync with previous owner's ID. and i can not remove the account.)
What i have tried:
1) I have tried to WIPE using system recovery, after WIPE both data & Cache partition, issue still exist.
2) Perform the Samsung factory reset by enter *2767*3855# in the Memo, problem still there.
3)Format the SD card with Phone & Windows, still got problem
4) Flashed with the stock EA24 Rom from XDA(with Modem, using Odin), the problem still remain the same.
5)Flashed with DJ30, the problem still exist(Base/Fireware EA24).
6)Tried to install CWM, failed to boot up(Rooted before install CWM, after flash the Zimage to Kernal or recovery, some strings flush in the screen, then the tab hung at Samsung logo and reboot.)
I guess those problem was caused by some program information still remain in the internal storage, even after factory reset or flash with other ROM.
Can somebody help on this? Also prefer someone can help on how to install CWM
I am interesting that the OVERcome 2.01 Rom got a version to WIPE the internal storage, but the OVERcome rom are designed for GSMer. Can i tried to use it to clear my internal storage?
just installed Astro, the program will crashed when launch it
Can some one help on this topic?
I am suspecting my internal storage was locked to Non-Writable.
This might result CWM can not access the internal memory caused the failure of the installation.
Is it related to the Flash lock option in the Odin?
Check this thread..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133053
That has the stock files, and instructions to get root and CWM installed with the stock software. Using Odin to put the stock firmware (EA24) should wipe anything and everything off the tab and restore it to as if it were new out of the box. You also might want to wipe your sd card as it can cause issues with the CWM ext4 conversion.
Hi pvtjoker42 & All:
During the process of Kernel with CWM Recovery, i has been stopped @ step7
1) Download the zip file here
2) Unzip the file. You will need the file named zimage only.
3) Open Heimdall Frontend
4) Select Browse under Kernel and navigate to the file you downloaded in step 1 and select it
5) Press Start
6) The Tab will reboot, but will freeze on the Samsung logo. Turn it off and boot into recovery (Vol Up + Power)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
my tab failed here, no matter what you pressed, it doesn't go to CWM. Do u have any idea?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
7) CWM Recovery will attempt to back your tab up, but will fail. Don't fret.
8) Do a factory reset in CWM Recovery and reboot
9) You'll freeze on the Samsung logo again Turn it off and boot into recovery.
10) CWM Recovery will back your Tab up successfully.
11) You now have a CWM backup. Reboot.
12) Your auto rotate is broken.
13) Download the rotation file
14) Put it in /system/lib/hw and change the permissions to match the other items.
Can someone helps?
Today i tried 1 more things, Use a update.zip to update the tab from EA24 to EB28,before try this, i have tried OTA to EB28, it never success.
i download the update.zip from <forum.sdx-developers.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=99sdnmh5pm4rtuv39hk80f7du6&topic=13104.0;nowap> it seems to be official one, and the recovery is the stock version, but it failed again.
I start to believe that my internal storage has been locked, and data can not write in.
Is it possible to due to Fstab issue?
Pls helps to save my tab....
There is only one thing to do : return to stock. Carefully follow the guide. Don't do anything else to your tab, until you go through the restock steps :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133053
[SPRINT] Sprint Tablet Owners Thread (Root, ROM, Flash to stock, CWM Recovery)
The process reformats/repartitions your internal sd card, and sets the correct permissions. If this process fails, there is probably something wrong with the tab.
you might also try to select the option to repartition in Odin when going back to EA24. Then try the steps to get EB28 OTA update, and once you've got that up and running, you can try the update.zip to get to EF17 (gingerbread, as long as you don't need root)
I wouldn't. Try a different sd card

Hi All:
Thanks for the advice.
I have tried to back to stock EA24 using odin, but the situation still ramain the same.
And it fail to OTA to EB28, the EB28 upgrade program will reboot the machine, and enter recovery model. but it will complete the program. also i have tried to put EB28 update.zip in the SD card, but also fail to upgrade to EB28.
I have repartition the phone by P100 serveral time using odin, also tried update Pit file. All failed.
I have format the SD card in Windows & then in Android, useless.
Now i have some clues:
In P1000 rom Roto-JME, there is Movinand.bin, this one got same name as the internal storage IC from samsung. i am thinking that file could be a file similar to partition table.
Can someone help to dump a "movinand.bin" for me from P100?
steps:
1)Get back to stock EA 24
2)Wipe Cache & factory data
3) Root it (Using superone click , you can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682)
4)Install terminal (i use better terminal) or using a ADB to connect to shell.
5)Type "su", check whether "$" change to "#" in the shell
6) Type “dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 of=/sdcard/movinand.bin bs=4096”
7) Find the Movinand.bin in the SD card
You can sent it to me by drop a email to [email protected]
If there is anything wrong, pls help to correct me
Thanks in advance
as some people is asking how did i fix the issue, just publish the information here.
I fixed the issue by replaced the internal storage (the chip), cost about US$ 30(RMB 200)
If anyone have better solution, just post here to share

Fail to mount /data
I have the same problem and have tried various fixes but none have worked so far.
I flashed different combinations of the three .pit files (512, 513 and 803) with GB and froyo roms. I flashed some other files than people said would work (dbdata.rfs.tar and P-SBL.tar.md5.tar) although I don't really know what they are supposed to do.
I also used parted in an adb shell to try and change the /dev/block/mmc/blk0. I printed the partitions (there was a FAT32 one and an ext4 one). Using 'rm' I tried to erase these partitions so hopefully a flash with re-partition would work. But afterwards I printed the partitions again and they were still there, exactly the same.
Does this mean that my problem is hardware-related?
If anyone has alternative solutions please share.

[I9003] Corrupted /data and /emmc partitions

Hi,
I have got Galaxy SL GT-i9003. The problem is the /data partition can't be mounted. I have already flash stock rom + pit, but it doesn't solve the problem.
Now is there any HACK I can use to fix it ? right now I am stuck in bootlooping on GB and Encryption unsuccessfull on ICS [EHNDROIX] ROM.
Any Help is Really Appreciated. Thanks.

Greetings;
I don't know if you've solved your problem.
But i'll leave some tips.
First of all i want to mention that:
I also came from an ehndroix ICS Rom when i got that problem.
"emmc" Stands for external SDCard
"sdcard" Stands for Internal "SDCard"
Note: "sdcard" it's not an SDCard. This is the device internal storage with a little bit more than 1.5GB.
If you need to fix the emmc (the "real" external SDCard) you can download and install an application that (usually fixes many SDCard problems and size issues)
Application Name: "SDCard Formater"
Download Link: www.sdcard.org
Also know that most custom roms will resize your partitions; wich usually cause that error.
The common fix for your partition problems is to make a clean install.
For a clean install:
1) Remove SD Card
Note: Remove if you have important data there; or leave it if you will flash a ROM from there.
2.1) If you have CWM Recovery on your Device:
Reboot your device in CWM Recovery Mode.
Select: "Advanced" and Erase Dalvik Cache.
Go back and Select: "Mounts and Storage"
And Format:
- Data
- System
- Boot
- Cache
2.2) If you don't have CWM Recovery:
- Flash DDLF2 Full or Stock Firmware from sammmobile.com
- DDLF2 Full Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2329200
- Flash CF-Root (wich Contains CWM and Roots the Device)
- Reboot your device in CWM Recovery Mode.
Select: "Advanced" and Erase Dalvik Cache.
Go back and Select: "Mounts and Storage"
And Format:
- Data
- System
- Boot
- Cache
After that Power Off your device and boot into download mode.
Open Odin; plug the USB Cable; select the files in Odin (note that last 2 files are switched - Modem and CSC)
Press start; and wait untill Odin says "Pass".
Note that 1st boot takes longer.
Also do not remove the cable utill Odin says "Pass"
My device will restart 1 time for each Rom and CF-Root Flash and only then Odin will show the "Pass" message.
I'm not aware of any hacks.
But If there's a way to do it manually for this device (like in previous android devices) then it would be loading into a pseudo "bootloader Mode" wich i think it doesnt exist on this device.
If it does... The steps would be (briefly) Downloading android SDK; locate the folder wich contains adb.exe and fastboot.exe.
Copy | Paste that folder to an easier path to access it through terminal | command prompt.
"adb" will allow you to show all your partitions
"Fastboot" will allow you to erase|format partitions.
But like i said. I tried to do that on my device but without luck. Even with Vendor ID the device wont let me use fastboot.
My solution went to make clean installs.
Please press thanks if i helped you.
This will motivate me into researching more; provide more help; make some applets; tutorials and some more.
@yokowasis You have posted in the i9000 section. Best delete the text from this post and post it in some Galaxy SL thread.

Bootloop after CM install. Won't restore backup, mount /data, flash stock

Hi developers. I am sorry for posting this. I spent the last week trying to solve it by myself with no hope. This is my second time installing something on a phone, but it is my only phone, so I beg anyone for a help...
-What I did:
Some days ago I downgraded to this ROM C5503_10.1.1.A.1.310_GLOBAL-LTE.ftf to use DoomLord rooting script. I did it with flashtool for linux and I applied his .bat step by step in the terminal since windows would not detect my phone.
It worked. I had root for some days, but I was still annoyed by sony default android. So I decided to install Cyanogenmod.
I unlocked the device with sony official system and wen't straight to this instructions, before the first reboot
wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_yuga
I booted succesfully in CWM, followed everything as it says there. But that's where weird things happened:
-The problems:
-The backup
I tried, it wouldn't mount /sdcard. Since I don't understand much about this, I thought it was normal. The next choice was sdcard1, I backed up there. Or so I thought...
-The factory reset
I factory reset, again, not mounting sdcard. Here is the message that shows when I try this now:
can't mount /data!
Error mounting /sdcard.android_secure
Skipping format...
Data wipe complete.
Since it said it is complete, I went on installing the zip file from my sdcard1. Both CM 10.2.1 (dogo, the right one for my phone) and the appropriate GAPPS.
Now it loops on the CM loop animation and I have to remove the battery...
-The restore problem
It still boots on the recovery mode. So I tried recovering my backup from sdcard1. But the image name is 1970.01.01.00.03.16. And it says "md5 mismatch"
I tried flashing again the stock rom with flashtool. The proccess goes on but nothing happens. I still have CWM and the boot loop.
I read elsewhere someone with a similar problem who solved using sony "emma" software. I installed it, it won't even recocnize my phone.
It recocnizes that there is a phone, but don't know which one.
But that has alway been the case with windows. I haven't been able to do anything in windows other then accessing the sdcard (when the phone worked).
Is there something I can do? I imagine that somehow, for some reason, the /data and /sdcard partitions got corrupted. I imagine I would need to repartition this and install again, but I have no idea how this happens on phones...
I can mount /system /cache and /storage/sdcard1. just /data I can´t. Says "error mounting /data"
This is my only phone and a vey recent $400 thing. I was very stupid to do that withouth a replacement and really need this phone. I greatly appreciate any help...
I found this post forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6433-solved-messed-up-partitions-on-internal-storage/ searching the internet. Is it possible that this would solve my problem? or would it finish bricking the phone?
Here's what you'll need:
Working recovery, basic knowledge of adb & the shell
Parted (download here)
stock PB31IMG.zip
Note also that I had run unrevoked forever (so my phone was S-OFF) ... I'm not sure if that's required or not.
So, grab parted from the link above. Now you need to extract the individual binaries from the .zip (the 6 files in the sdparted folder within the zip), ideally to your android-sdk\tools directory. Now push all 6 files (adb push [file] /sbin/). Next, we need to make them useable, so go into the shell (adb shell). Change to your /sbin/ directory, and run: chmod 0755 <file> on each of the 6 files.
Now, we need to fix the partitions. This is assuming that the partitions are there, just the wrong format (which is what happened to me .. I accidentally made them FAT32 instead of ext). So, run the following: parted /dev/block/mmcblk0 mkfs ext2. It will ask if you want to continue, hit yes. When it asks for the partition number, enter 1. Next, when it asks for the format, enter ext2. Let it do its thing. Now, once it's done, run parted again. This time, enter partition 2 (everything else is the same).

CWM Recovery Status 0 Installation aborted

Dear forum,
I'm struggling to get CM 11 (or any other stable CM MOD) installed on my Galaxy S.
Trying to go back to factory settings, my rooted phone got bricked.
After struggling with the USB drivers via zadig I finally managed ODIN (very flaky tool !) to recognise the deive. I managed to repartition the phone using the PIT file s1_odin_20100512.pit (from google code)
I then started following the guidelines for installing CM on the device and flashed the phone (using Heimdal) with semafore 2.7.4. When going in recovery mode, it gave errors related to the mount points (missing .fstab). Any action from the recovery mode (data wipe, format, etc.) was resulting in errors related to the mount points...
Digging around pointed me to the Replicant recovery image as this would resolve the problem. Which it did. It now states CWM-based recovery v6.0.4.6 and operates without errors when mounting unmounting etc.
Now, when in recovery mode and pushing (adb) any MOD (CM, replicant, etc.) I always get an error stating:
E:Error in storage sdcard0 update.zip
(status 0)
Installation aborted.
I've been spending hours on combinations, rebooting reconnecting, re-wiping, toggling signature verif, sideloading vs pushing, etc. etc. and searching the Internet for answers.
So far I have not found a root cause or way to avoid the error and continue with the ROM installation.
Any idea what is causing the error message in the ROM zip files with Status 0 ?
After a fresh reboot in recovery and going to Advanced-show log, I can see:
Code:
I:Skipping execution of extendedcommand, file not found...
I:Cannot load volume misc
I:Can't partition non mmcblk device: devices platform s3c-sdhci.0 mmc_host mmc0
All hints are welcome.
Thanks
