Ok I've been thinking and I've decided I will get a nexus one over a galaxy s on one condition... Is it possible to take all the apk files from a galaxy s rom so you still have the nice blue tabs and power control settings in the statusbar but just keep the default android launcher and lockscreen?
If so can someone walk me through it or do it themselves? It would be appreciated a lot...
Thanks
Swenflea
I'm pretty sure it wont work that easily. At least in Sense, there are lots of core files and dependencies that you need to have before Sense will work. It's possibly the same for the Galaxy S - you need to have touchwiz and other samsung stuff integrated before the APK's would work.
I saw a post a while back linking to all the Galaxy S APKs, maybe try some of them? I tried a few and they didn't work.
There is a thread about it Here
Josh.
Some developer has ported TouchWiz to Nexus, you can use that... and there are also Galaxy S themes/ROMs with Galaxy S status bar or even a metamorph that you can use to turn the status bar into Galaxy S one. But I don't think it's easy as that to just pull the apks and install it on another device, AFAIK every UI has it's own framework and can't work without it.

I've tried the roadsms app on my Aria. It works but due to the size of the screen I'm missing 1/4 of the keyboard. So I know these apk's can cross builds. Could some kind member post the apk to the Captivate's notification bar? I don't know if it would work on Sense UI, but its worth a try! The Galaxy notification is sooooo much better than any other build. I mean, come on this is how it should be. Wifi, bluetooth and gps control is right there!!!
Anyways, someone whos rooted can you rip the xda-community your apk?

Here's the framework-res.apk file from my Captivate, which contains the notification bar AFAIK. FYI our doesn't have a GPS toggle though, just wifi/bluetooth/silent/vibrate.
I'm still somewhat new to android so I'm unsure of how you'd get this working on your Aria though. Good luck

Edit:Or maybe you'd need twframework-res.apk? http://www.mediafire.com/?4yter4knnfl1s28
Installing a different notification bar is not an easy process.
There's a whole lot of system-specific things going on with it, so moving the TouchWiz bar to a Sense phone will fail, and hard, perhaps to the point of preventing you from even booting, without some serious modifications to the framework-res.
This theme is for rbrucemtl's 'Fusion!ROM2.2', but currently only 5.1 and lower (although not tested on all of them). So will not work on the latest version. I do not plan on updating it, but the images are there in the theme for someone to take on and port to future versions of this ROM. Sorry to all that have been using it, but I don't have the time these days to keep on top of it.
For you 'FroydVillain' users Alex over at www.villainrom.co.uk has ported this over - http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=2627
All, bar a few of the images have been ported from the Galaxy S ROM. There are a couple of my own minor additions in there also. They have all been resized and 9.png'd so took some time to get them right.
Please note: I do not have that much time to do this sort of thing and I am not planning on updating it further as what I have is enough for me, but If someone else wants to take this and run with it, by all means be my guest
So... attached will give you a rough idea of what is themed. I have also themed the Desk Clock, and included modified notification icons for the Market and Messaging apps. I haven't included the icons you'll see for the apps, as haven't had a chance to update them all so thought better to leave them all out rather than have them half complete. However, I can suggest the 'Gala S' theme for 'ADW Launcher'. That will theme all the apps to the Galaxy S icons.
To achieve the look please follow the below:
Flash the attached theme 'Hero-GalaxyS-0.1.zip' (see below the post) from whatever recovery you are using.
You will then need to change following to white text (or other) in Spare Parts, or the CM Settings:
Clock
Date
Carrier PLMN
Carrier SPN
Notifications ticker
No notification title
Ongoing notification title
Latest notification title
Items title
Items text
Items time
Then as you will see in the screen shots I am using the 'TouchWiz' Launcher. I have not included this but you can obtain it from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735632. All credit to the guys who made that possible. It runs very smooth and is actually pretty damn good.
Please note: Samsung Widgets are not included.
Enjoy! ...and don't blame me if it breaks your phone. You should know how to nandroid by now.

Notes for Hero-GalaxyS
Not working for CM6 Nightly. loop boot.
Hmmm, I guess the framework is not transparent across all 2.2 ROMs. I have updated the thread to specify that this now only be for 'Fusion!ROM2.2' as that is what I am using it on and have not tested it on any other.
looks a greatheme, but boot loops on froyodvillain, hopefully some one can port this to it as i really want this theme.
Awweessoommee I will try on CM Nightly just incase it was the guy ^^above^^ that just had problems with it if not is it alright if i try porting it ?? oh and wow didt know it was possible to make the icons background on hero
EDIT: oh and which launcher do i need to use from the link?? the i9000 or the i5800 ??
EDIT2oohh i just remebered i made some status bar mods for galaxy s but could never try them out because i dont have the phone :L
EDIT3:Confirmed boot loop on nightly build :/

I think it's due to the framework, although both are 2.2 ROMs some of the devs modify certain files in there or they differ from they way it's built. So the theme would have to be made for each ROM. Sucks really.
On another note, it doesn't really work that well on FryodVillain as for some reason they have removed the options to change the text colour of the Clock, Date etc... so you just end up with a black clock in the task bar and some black text in the pull down menu. I'm not sure why they did that. I guess to make it as less like CM as possible :S

Both the i9000 and i5800 work fine on the Hero. Although the i5800 has a better fit on the icons and text in the app drawer. Both have the same features, so it's what you prefer really.
It will prob boot loop on any CM at the mo. I think once a final version comes out it'll be much easier to get a theme ready for any ROM, but in their current states, with constant updates it's difficult to keep up
Still the files are there ready to play with for anyone who may want to.
Sweet Thanks
Any chance of the lock screen ?

Not yet. None of them have been ported and I don't think they'd work until the whole ROM was ported over. I think some people might be looking at it but don't think it's gonna happen

i don't think it matters which nightly you theme because cynageon i dont think changes any of the framework so you wont need to keep updating the theme evry night when theres a new one :L
*Sorry i have had 3 posts of just me*
lol, that's cool.
With regards to the Lockscreen, I am not sure that can work either as it integrates with other Samsung apps, Phone, Messaging etc. However, as of yet I can't even find where it is in the ROM dump . If you get anywhere with it or the widgets let me know
Hope you dont mind, but ive asked on villain rom if anyone can convert it fo froyodvillian.

No not at all
I did originally do a version for FroydVillain, but they have not included the CM options to change the colours of the Clock, Date etc... so with the dark notification bar it looks a bit odd, not so much for the date but the clock looks like a blank space. Maybe someone there can edit the relevant xml file to change it or find a way to add in the CM Settings into the ROM.
I was looking at the new Samsung Galaxy S (codename Vibrant) and it has a few pretty nice feature what are kinda basic and easily portable for an expert modder (I'm not that kind in Android).
So I have to ask, is it possible to have these features on our beloved G1?
Features:
- Night stand mode (clock screen with some nice info, lowered backlight)
- Control panel on the status screen (the stuff you roll down with the top bar). In Galaxy S firmware, there is a nice control panel (widget-like) what contains buttons to switch BT, Wlan, vibration and mute on/off
- The new TouchWiz Launcher (I think I already found the apk and odex files for that)
- Some widgets (got them all)
- The live wallpapers (found them too)
So my question is still the same: is it possible to get the first two (or all) options installed on our G1?

It may, but my goal is to get all the stuff from Galaxy S, and not from 3rd party apps I hope you understand me!
I'm currently running infinitum 2.1 and I like the galaxy s lock screen that came default with the captivate 2.2
I've searched for it to see if I could have it back but I couldn't find anything.. anyone have any links or files to help?m

it would require editing the framework, remove an existing lockscreen and add the xml from the old one, along with the image resources and a bit of troubleshooting and a blown weekend or two.. but it would be possible.
or you try a lockscreen replacer app, like miLocker or WidgetLocker

On another note, is it possible to install a live wallpaper .apk from KK4 on ICS? I tried a bunch of things with the individual .apk, but do I need the whole livewallpapers.apk or something else to do it?
Try out milocker...I know it has the Galaxy puzzle piece unlock and a bunch of others!!
Hello
I own a Galaxy Tab P7310 since today, Android 3.2 preinstalled.
How can I edit the shortcuts in the Touchwiz UX bar which pops-up when I press the bottom arrow?
If now - how can I get rid of it?
Regards

Unfortunately, you can't edit nor get rid of that quick launch task bar on touchwiz ux ... But you can always root and install custom roms!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Yeah, a custom ROM will get rid of the Samsung overlay apps, and usually will also switch the taskbar to plain black.
I do like the overlay apps but I really don't know what they were thinking with the grey taskbar with the little 3D bevel effect there... These bars are supposed to be black to give the appearance of them being an extension to the device's bezel (the Galaxy Nexus does a great job of this), and as such they don't disappear when you play a lot of games and things... It's pretty distracting having a big grey bar down there when trying to play a game. I imagine it'll likely be black when the ICS update comes out.
You could edit the png's in TW to get rid of the grey, but you'd still have the pop up apps

I will get to digging...That is about the worst idea to have those apps pop up and not be able to edit which ones are there.. The stock buttons"screenshot ect" always get hit at the most crucial part of a game..lol.
I doubt very much if you'll be able to edit which apps pop up as they aren't just links to the stock apps, evident by the fact they are floating, but you should certainly be able to kill off the pop up button and the screenshot button by editing the xml
