this solution is with thanks to another person on another site...
You need a WiFi connection available for this to work!
1) Call your phone from a different phone.
2) Answer the call. While still connected...
3) Hit the BACK button on the phone (the arrow softkey)
4)This takes you to the home screen (it might take a few attempts, it depends on your timing. It took me 4 attempts)
5)Drag down your notifications bar and turn the WiFi on if it isn't already.
6)Close the notifications bar then hit the MENU softkey, select Settings then "Accounts and sync".
7)Click "Add Account" and select Google.
8)Sign up for a new google account as normal.
9)When the signup process is complete (and it must successfully create an account) you can hang up the call. (Do not sync the accounts)
10)Now when the phone asks you to unlock it using google credentials, use the ones from the account you just created. It will now ask you for a new security pattern, then for the same pattern again to verify.
11)Once you are back into the phone, turn off this "feature" until Google release a fix for the bug.
12)You can now delete the "false" google account which you just created from the phone. You should log into google and delete it from there too really.
13)Now reboot your phone. When the phone starts up and it still says "Phone Locked" don't panic!, Just drag the screen out of the way to unlock the phone, just like you did before you activated the pattern security.
damn
have tried that to now and no result
If you don't mind losing all data on the phone, there's still the hard reset.
Hold the power + home + volume up key. One the Galaxy S writing flashes twice let go and you will go into recovery mode. Use volume buttons and the home key to navigate the menu, do a factory/hard reset.

i use outlook on my Tilt, when i get email i get a pop like notification every few minutes, and i can selet dismiss or view(or something like that) is there a way to stop that notification popup? also i have my phone light set to turn off after 2 minutes, which it goes into a standby type mode, basically the same thing as when you hit the power button on the right side once how it stand byes until u hit it again, when it does that i cant receive messages, my send/receive is set to check every 5 minutes, but with it in this standby type mode it wont send/receive to get new messages until i basically wake it up, is that a way to get it to send/receive while in this mode?
for your first question: SEARCH THE FORUM !!!!!!!
just kidding (but if you do you'll find your question answered a few times...):
You have to go to Settings/Personal/Sounds and Notification, select New e-mail from the combobox and uncheck the box saying "Display message on screen"
For your second question: I don't know but there are more people complaining about this
thanks man, appreciate it, i guess i had to make things more complicated than they really are lol
I have the same problem. My device (TyTn II) is set to download mails "as items arrive" from my Exchange server. I always have my device in standby-mode using VJDevicelock. The problem is that when it is in standby it doesn't receive e-mails. I then wake it up and suddenly get a barrage of mail.
Search the forums, there was a long thread on this that has sort of died out. Basically, the fix has been identified (we think) and is in the KaiserTweak app. Basically, get the latest xml version of KaiserTweak, and in there are options for "Notifications": change the values under notifications to somehting other than 1 second, and it should fix the problem. Also, it could be a result of having the HTC Home screen installed (if you're using a tilt and installed it as a separate app), the Task Manager seems to contribute to this issue as well (disable it by going to task manager and uncheck the "Enable Quick Menu on Today Screen", and a third possible cuplrit is having the "automatic set time zone and dater" option checked on in Settings > Phone. (This has not bothered mine, but others reported that it did.) But, if I were you I'd start with teh Kaisertweak settings and remove the HTC HOme screen (if installed), and go from there.
I read about / tried all the best key-mapping programs (AE Button, hButton, etc.), but I couldn't figure out how do to this..
When I press a certain button once, I want the phone to automatically call a certain contact, without asking for any confirmation. Ideally, announce the name of the contact being called, but no big deal if it doesn't.
Press the same button twice, 3 times, etc. -- the call is placed to other contacts I specify in advance.
I'm just trying to make the PDA car-friendly.. While driving, I still much prefer my $50 Nokia cell phone, which had easy single-button-hold quick-dial.
Thank you for any suggestion..
I forgot the pattern i used to unlock the phone..Now its askng me to use the google acc. but not accepting the user id or password..Not able to get in to either recovery or download mode..Please tell me what i can do to unlock it...

Try to put your gmail login info from all different gmail account you have.
Also try this. Take out battery>wait for 3 hours > but the battery back > press power button for 20 seconds (This method was listed by one guy on other forum).
One guy also mentioned this method.
AGAIN ITS the lamest thing you could ever think of, anyway heres how it goes,
1) Log in to your google account on your pc, the same account you registered for your phone
2) After logging in look at the top right corner of your inbox/email page, it would say your google username. Like say if you name is John, and you have a google id thats registered to your galaxy s as ,[email protected] Now this google id on the top right corner of the page would be displayed [email protected]
3) Type in the google id, thats visible on the right hand top corner of your page ([email protected]) into your galaxy s handset locked page, and type in the password.
TADA AND YOUR ON TO THE NEW SCREEN TELLING YOU TO PUT IN ANOTHER PATTERN.
Thanks

in the worse case scenario
you can always format (firmware flash) the phone and start from scratch
Nothing worked..What if take it to service center..Can they reset it some how???
They can - but you can do it without help --> recovery modue - wipe all data
problem: all your data is gone, but i think, if you forgot your pattern, you should suffer some pain
3 button mode is not working in my phone...If give it in service center can they be able to do it???
3 button mode is not woking in my phone.
Got a replacement today from sumsung today..
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

Just to clarify some things...
Those quick fixes you people are talking about do not work. This just happened to me on a 1 day old Vibrant, and now I have to get yet another phone sent to me because it is soft-bricked. T-Mobile says it's a software glitch.
The reason it does this is because most people set up their account through the market app, and from what I've read, it does not store your account information on the phone if you do not set up your Google account using the GMail app. This is a critical issue, because in the T-Mobile store most reps will set up your Google account for you by using the Market app (and then everything else just prompts you to use that account).
If you have your phone charging and some toddler/preteen locks your account out, the only way to use your phone for anything other than receiving calls is to send the phone in and get it replaced. Too many Vibrants are hardware locked, so it is impossible to get into recovery mode on a majority of T-Mobile Vibrant phones (and many others, even international "types").
You will not be able to factory reset your phone.
You will not be able to use your Google Credentials to reset the lock.
You will not be able to get into download mode to reflash it to stock and get in.
You will not be able to do anything but make emergency calls and receive incoming calls.
You will not be able to get to the home screen by smashing home/menu keys and spamming Emergency Call button.
You will not be able to get the notification tray down.
And while the phone is telling you invalid user name and password, you will be able to log onto the internet using the same UN/PW and send emails to yourself, and watch the phone download them over its 3G connection.
The phone doesn't even attempt to connect to Google Servers to authenticate your information.
There are no fixes.
I've just spend hours upon hours trying every "fix" back to mid-2009.
Send your phone in, and get a replacement if this happens.
And never use Android's pattern lock - ever - again.
This bug has existed since Android 1.5. Google refuses to fix it.
Had the same issue. Ended up doing a hard reset, lost the boot screen and a few other things now don't work. Annoying.
Thank you N8ter

This actually worked for me after I had too many pattern attempts and I didn't sign up at google yet so couldn't unlock with google username and password.
Thanks alot!! That pattern lock had me panicking for a good while, especially since this was the first day I had this phone.
Hi I had setting to unlock the screen to draw a symbol. My brother drew the wrong character 30 times and the phone is locked. Now phone wants my google email and password. Every time its wrong i cant unlock my phone. Recovery reset doesn't help any idea for help? How i make hard reset wipe?
I got exactly the same problem today and got it solved with help from other member. You can read my thread "Need Help Badly : My Phone is LOCKED". For some reasons i can't posted the link.
This is the solution that works for me:

I put the password to unlock the keys and I typed the wrong password several times. Now is my Google account to fill. I put usernamu and password but still not let me. Could you tell me how to give a soft restart?
maybe: unlock the back cover, and remove the battery?
I try but it don't function
Soft restart, or factory reset even will NOT change the password of your google mail account.
I don't want to change my pass on google... my problem is with screen lock ... i put a pass for unlock the screen and i put the wrong password several times 5 or 6 and now my phone in blocked and someone who work in mobile domain told me to reset the soft
I haven't tried it yet, but i've found 1 solution.
The solution:
1) I put my SIM card
2) I called from another phone and answered the call
2) Press the touch button that is on the left winged “home” button
3) There appears a menu with 3 options, "Contacts", "Notes" and "SIM services”
4) I selected "SIM services" and lower the drop-down menu at the top.
5) Press the home button (the square in the middle), I went to the main menu, Settings, Privacy and data factory reset.
