[Q] unroot after rooting - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok guys a noob question, lets say i root my phone and put a custom rom, so if i want to unroot how do i do it? where can i get the stock firmware?

Please search through the forums. The dev section has all you need when it comes to rooting and reverting back to stock jf6. If you don't each for those threads you will get last and end up fing your phone up.

[Q] Presently the best way to flash back to stock

I've rooted and flashed a few Captivates over the past several months. I am aware there are newer ways of flashing back to stock. I want to flash one back to stock and then upgrade to Froyo 2.2, in preparation of selling it.
So what's the best, easiest way of doing this now?
Thanks, Tomween1
i really dont think this deserves being answered.
Depends on the build number
MIUI
Build # 1009 and lower, Odin one clink. 1010 and higher full odin.

I really don't think he deserves that kind of answer. Why don't you go look up the toolbox that Bay Wolf made. It is an extremely simple way to get back to stock. Good luck.

Rom manager

Can someone please help me out. I flashed back to Odin 2.1 and now I can't get Rom Manager back. It's in my titanium backup, but it wont let me reinstall it. Does anyone know of an APK for RM or have a link to a good kernal with it in it? I want to put a good rom in it but I'm having trouble without RM. I've seen warnings about Bootloading too, so I'm leery of doing it that way.
Can someone help me out please. Thanks in advance.

Try to please post in q&a.
Get root. Install apk from market. Apply update. Flash a 2.2 rom. Easy and simple. GOOGLE.
If you mean install the App itself, RM is no longer available for the Captivate. Only RM Pro and its just a activation code. RM won't even show up on the market with the Cappy. It does for my SGS2.

Because its useless for sgs to begin with. You DO NOT need it.
Sorry, I was making a joke

Depends on what version of android. Just look for kernels for that specific version and you will have CWM. Doesn't really have to match but better that way if you mess up. Get the kernel with cwm and flash with ODIN.
rom manager only works with captivate 2.1 android (eclair)
you do not even need to search to find all the info you need. stickies are at the top of each forums first page for a reason. read them all... in each captivate section... q&a, general, development (read dont post)
And with that

[Q] Working root for Captivate I896 - running Gingerbread 2.3.3?

Hello!
I've been searching the web and this site for hours with no luck. Every single root I come across is no longer working, has a cracked link, is for the wrong firmware/model and other such issues. I've tried to flash Kernel with Odin but I can't find any working links for that either. So I've made an account and am hoping to get some help! Sorry for being a noob.
I am on the Rogers network. I have a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate I896. I'm running Gingerbread 2.3.3.
If anyone could help me out I would seriously appreciate it!
There are stickies and many great guides all over the forum that show you how. If you read on, you will see that this question has been asked a lot and is always given the same answer.

Download and run SuperOneClick Root (You'll find it on XDA). It should root your device.

I've looked at that, it's not for my phone model.
Thank you for replying though.

I have looked at quite a few of them and have not been able to find any that still work. Most are from 2010-2011 when the phone came out and don't work with the upgrade or have been taken down. As I said in the first post. If you could link me to one you know works with my model and firmware and is still functioning I would appreciate it.
As stated above...use SuperOneClick to get Root. It works. There are many threads in the Q & A forum that have covered this. A quick search will show this. The i897 Captivate and i896 are pretty much the same phone.

Where can I find the prerooted stock roms?
I'm not quite ready for a custom ROM. I've been following the progress of a couple though. It always seems like there is never a final version to custom ROMS and usually a couple useful features are sometimes missing.

Same forum you find the custom ROMS in.
And even with stock ROMs there's never a final version, hence you wanting to update the device. Read, learn, get your feet wet.
Otherwise, just reflash stock recovery and let it update when there's an update.

Thanks, I've been to the deep end and back. Been lurking since thread one. You see I've been around a long time and don't post very often. I browsed through all 9 pages of the htc One android development threads but didn't find it. I did a couple of searches and didn't find it, I posted in the questions hoping to get links for reference and well because that what it is there for.
Edit: I looked again and found it. Thanks again for your help.

No problem. Was about to say they're in Development and not Original Development.
