I have just bought Dream and have spent yesterday and today reading thread upon thread learning how to root and install custom ROM.
Whilst I like mucking around with experimental ROMs I still like to stick to single most fastest and stable ROM. These days what is the most fastest and stable custom ROM? Is this ROM faster and/or more stable then the official G1 Donut build?
Thanks.
try either akirah's 1.6 or enomther's 1.6 rom, or a more novel idea is to test these things yourself and find out for yourself, since everyone's opinion will differ.
This has got to be the one millionth "what hero is better" thread. Lame.

I looked at all the threads in the last 10 pages and I didn't see question about fast and stable ROMs.
All 3 main ones are quick. I am running cyanogen 4.1.999 with no problems. Don't be put off by "expirimental". Always read the change log. If it says stuff like data just started working or no wifi, chances are u won't want it for everyday use. 4.1.999 has been fast and clean.
Which 3 main ones?
i listed 2 and he listed one. math.
i like xrom personal it does not have the new market but other than that i cant tell the difference from 1.6 roms. just opinion
I have just tried the latest Akirah 1.6 and it has more lag then the default G1 1.5 build...
you should try it yourself.
for my own experience i've try cyan and akirah's donut build but didn't work out.
this is what i am using now and was fast and stable for almost a week without reboot

KingKlick KiNgxKxROM v1.8 is what ive been playing with. it took me a couple of days to figure some things though. mostly about the difference between linux swap and compcache/etc. im still fuzzy but i somehow last night was able to get it to work good and quick and stable.. then that wasnt good enough for me so i had to break things.
I've been out of the G1/Dream "scene" for a few months. Been enjoying it with Cyan 3.6.8.1 on 1.5 firmware. My question is, with all the new Android handsets coming out and the amazing work put out by XDA members, what's the newest/best ROM to use? I'm thinking I need a new one to enjoy. I played around with HERO months ago, but it was just too laggy for me.
Also, being that I'm currently on 1.5, what advantages would be in upgrading to 1.6 or even 2.0?
Sorry for being a little behind on the times. Thanks for any help.

The new cyan 1.6 roms are good, maybe try hero or eclair if you want/
I have the newest Cyanogen Rom for Stability and the Community Hero theme for looks. Does me Fine, Love it. NO lag and the Camera works (Not something available on 2.0+)
yeah, I had always heard good things about the Cyan builds. Might look into the Eclair and see what it has to offer. If not, just might be a Cyan upgrade.

Eclair works great, just some bugs here and there, but nothing big. Everything works fast and is stable.
Only thing that doesn't work is the camera, which really depends on when they decide to release camera drivers/support
Can never go wrong with cyanogen builds, so either way, two great roms
Hey all,
I recently had my Dream jtagged/rooted (thanks ezterry!) and have been shopping for roms. I am currently running SuperD which is working great, however I really wanted to give a Sense rom a try. Any suggestions? Nothing too experimental, just something fast and stable enough for daily use. Thanks!
Well JC's hero was the fastest and stable but it ran on 1.5. If you want something 2.1-ish then use King's Droid Eris rom or Vega's Legend both are quite equal in speed and stability(imo). Running the Eris port(don't know why) and find myself frustrated on app load times and battery intake. I would consider not using 2.1 first though, I would actually recommend selling the G1 as not much is going on in the dev section OE is still in 2.0 development and nothing has come out of 2.1 yet that is full and stable/fast. Either you don't have to take my word for it . Have fun with your new-ish G1!
Off note-ish: Lotta people getting their G1 un-bricked eh?
Partitioned SDCard. 128MB at least. VegaMan's Legend ROM V0.9.1 is AMAZING! I can give you a version with LWP and LED's if you want?
^That would be good. Is it better than KiNgxKxlick Legend2G1 and DroidEris2G1?
Sense UI on Donut?
Is there a rom that run Sense that is based on Donut?
^Hey you are using Droid2ErisG1, how is the battery life?

Not too bad, but I don't use my phone much durring the day. Heavy use drains the battery bad.

So if I want Sense I am stuck with 2.1 builds? None are all that fast.
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
no, you can have fast and stable sense on 1.5 roms. none 1.6. and sluggish on 2.1
Wow, thanks for all the tips. Looks like I have some experimenting to do. I'm thinking I'll give Vegaman's Legend a try and if that doesn't work out, wait for a better 2.1 sense build...can't see myself going back to 1.5 just for a few visual trinkets here and there.
@protomanez: mine wasn't exactly bricked...it was the stupid Rogers 911 update...so, about as useful as a brick

incubus, as much as its great to have the latest OS (froyo) on our trusty old vogues, its starting to feel like running windows vista on my old celeron. Meaning maybe FROYO and all its capabilites are weighing us down. Maybe Froyo is just not fully optimized yet. How is the speed of this rom relative to the ROM you and DZO are putting out?

That's pretty much the impression I get when I run froyo, which is why it's so hard for me to give up donut. If I had a copy of eclair with improved performance, though, I would jump ship in a minute!
Sent from my Sprint Vogue with Myn's odexed Warm Donut
Hmmm... I'm surprised you're finding Froyo slow - for me it's as snappy as Donut if not even faster on the Vogue. Regardless it's nice to have this ROM from a native 320x240 device to try out.

Plemen, which NBH and build are you using? I've been using Myn's Odexed Warm Donut for a while, and before that I used DZO's Odexed Donut for a bit. Every week or so, I back up my Donut and test out the newest Froyo iteration, and the speed difference is pretty drastic. From my experience, it is about as fast as Eclair, but in no way as fast as Donut.
However, I would LOVE to be wrong. If I have just been using a buggy Froyo build and /or NBH, and the thing is actually really fast, I will so be there!
NICE!
I would love to have a faster sense available for my Vogue just for tampering.. But hands down Froyo is by far the fastest release for my phone. It even beats the NFSFAN Winmo rom that I use sometimes (just for pocketufo). Warm Donut was great but I havent found a single reason to stray from Froyo. While ive had some issues with rls 11 and 12.. rls 10 has been nothing short of amazing for me

I'm using the latest 240x320 nbh and latest build from dzo:
nbh:
http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/files/voguimg-240x320-froyo-26-07-10.nbh
build:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/files/system-froyo-26-07-10_16.tgz/download
There are minor issues here and there but dzo has been super quick dealing with things as they come up.
Of course incubus's build is really nice as well.

Absolutely NO! dzo's nbh files are only for vogue/kaiser/polaris/nike. This thread is about porting wildfire rom to our devices.
I've grown to hate my G1 over the last few days (got an iPad [don't be hatin'] a few days ago and my dad got a G2 today) because it's so incredibly slow. But, due to the iPad I now only use it for calls, texts and tethering.
Can anyone suggest me a fast, stable ROM to hold me over 'till I get the G2? Donut or later is preferred.

pretty fast pretty stable pretty good battery
only things i miss:
titanium backup support
new(est) apps/games
Checkout Super D and E. Also Chromatic 3.9 is pretty cool.

The ones that I've enjoyed the most are Dwang's donut rom (not SuperD)
NonSense Cupcake
Super E for Eclair
Didn't like any froyo roms, they couldn't keep dialer in memory
But if all you're looking for is speed and stability, then here's the rom I'd recommend.

Simply, stock Android 1.6. I always get back to this, this is my home ROM, my favourite. I just jump to other from it, but always come back. Speed, stability and great battery life (2 days isn't a problem).
i would say cyanogen 6 is fast, stable and excellent on battery life
Super froyo

how do you handle apps on it. as there is no apps2sd
i agree that stock is fast and stable. but 7xmb is too few for apps isnt it? i need about 150-200mb of my ext partition..
Best suggestion find someone who can make a rom for ya ^^ get them to add apps2sd to a stock rom and minor modifications including UV kernel and you have one of the longest lasting rom's and very stable plus a tiny bit faster than stock so win win win also by minor modifications I meant very minor as too keep fully stable you can always use the rom kitchen I keep hearing about lol if you don't wanna ask someone to make one for ya ^^
