Hello everyone.
I have a Galaxy S running stock ROM. No lagfix no custom ROM no root nothing.
Just now I tried going into recovery/download mode to see what features it have by pressing the volume down+home+Power button.
Now the phone says "Downloading
Do not turn of target! "
What can I do to solve this problem. Till now I havent tried to restart the phone? Should I do that?
Regards

Thanks for the quick reply. I am quite worried now.
Are you sure about the solution though? I have read about bricked phones though I dont think mine is such the case as I was not installing anything to the phone!
So pulling out battery is safe...or I should 1st try pressing the power button and see if it switches off?
Regards
If you didn't star flashing it with odin and just started download mode with 3 button combo there is nothing to be afraid of... You have to pull out the battery and put it back in.

Hey Guys I know there a lot of threads like the one I am about to start up but those do not apply to what I have done to my phone.
So to start off I know I do not have a lot of posts but that is because I usually find all of the information that I need by reading through the forums. I have experience with flashing various roms onto my captivate. Today I decided I would try out an I9000 rom on my Captivate. I was following the instructions provided by this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791366
I downloaded the files that the poster said to download. I got to step 2 where I flashed the JM8 PDA. I think this is where I messed up because I after I did this my phone boots directly into recovery and spits some information out. Which is the following (this is the text under the recovery menu options):
update media, please wait ...
update media, finished
# MANUAL MODE #
-- Appling Multi-CSC...
Installing Multi-CSC
mps_dat value: ATT
copy_multi_carrier from: ATT
multicsc : can not access to /system/csc/ATT/system/
copy_common_data
Thats the end of the information spit out by the recovery menu. My problem is that since I flashed some version of the I9000 kernel there is no way for me to enter the download menu so I can restore back to stock. Please Please guys I really need the communities help with this. I am screwed if I take the phone to AT&T because when the phone boots it has the I9000 splash screen that says galaxy s phone gt i9000.
The help will be greatly appreciated and I might even make a donation to the person that can help me!
Yank out battery, close Odin, Remove USB
Open Odin
Insert Battery
Hold Volume down (NO POWER)
Plug in USB
Phone should go into download mode - Start flash
Hey zilch I have tired that as well and I just keep going into the same recovery menu as before. Do you think it might be the fact that I do not have the galaxy s drivers on my computer???
If you can't get into download mode with the button combos (hell, I couldn't) you should still be able to use adb to reboot into download mode. So:
Plug in usb
Open Odin
type from a console in the android sdk tools directory "adb reboot download"
Use odin when you get into the download mode.
Also, Zilch, you've helped me out before, you're the man.

You dont need separate drivers if you had the Captivate ones installed... it should work either way, but if you have no drivers at all, that could be an issue
Edit: If it's plugged into USB and you didnt hit power it shouldn't power on the phone to go into recovery menu... if you did the button combo wrong it should just show the battery
No i do have the captivate drivers installed. I was coming from cognition so maybe that is a problem??? I am really open to any suggestions!

Install the drivers!
I meant I do have the Captivate drivers installed but when the phone turns on and enters recovery mode my computer (windows 7 x64) notifies me it is searching for drivers and then fails.
To get into download mode:
1. Remove Battery, SIM, SD
2. Open Odin
3. hold volume up + down buttons
4. While holding them down, put the battery
5. still holding them(buttons) down, plug the usb cable.
Phone should go to download mode and Odin should detect it.

When I plug in the phone it shows the batter and the loading bars for a couple of seconds and then automatically enters the recovery menu. I have not touched any of the buttons the whole time this happens.

So if you unplug the phone from USB while it's off, then hold volume down, and plug in USB nothing happens or does it do the battery thing?
Okay so through some miracle of god I got the adb to detect the phone and I sent it into download mode but odin wasnt open and now I am getting the mobile phone image/ warning image/ pc image!

From that screen if you can't get your button combos to work you're pretty much toast =/
You can try:
USB
Unplug battery
Plug in battery
Hold both volume buttons + power
keep holding the buttons, the screen will turn off, then turn back on
As soon as the screen goes black again, release the power button and hope that you get the android digger
MY PHONE IS FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!! I think what did the trick is I installed Samsung Kies and that gave me all of the drivers for the samsung phone thus giving me the ability to use adb in recovery. Thanks guys! Your'e post encouraged me to keep trying and not cuddle up in the fetal position crying myself to sleep!

Whew... well I'm glad you got it back, we've had so many perma-fails lately with the OTA these days it's nice to see a miraculous recovery Improves morale around here!
this thread just saved my life. thank you to everyone that contributed
For future reference, since the button combos are different on the i9000 vs. the Captivate, I've found that I get into download mode every time on an i9000 ROM by yanking the battery, and then re-inserting it while holding volume down+power. I know you already got it resolved, but just keep that in mind, as it has never failed me. Only wish I knew about that combo back during the whole JPC fiasco!
Hi all,
My phone is now bricked with the phone--!--pc symbol on bootup, and I tried to search for solutions everywhere but no go. Please please help me with this as I don't have unlimited warranty on this phone... and won't be able to exchange...
So, the root of the problem is that the normal hold down volume + plug in cable OR hold down three buttons until it reboots twice to go into download mode will not work on my phone! nothing happens at all when I try that, (I even tried every single button combination and holding them for a period of time...)
Here is what happened:
I wanted to get Froyo running on my phone, so I tried to follow directions using the Froyo leak.
I tried to get it into download mode when the phone was running and operational. None of the normal methods would work (volume button OR three button combo)
I eventually got it to go into download mode by using adb, and typing command adb reboot download.
adb got my phone into download successfully, i see the shovel, odin sees my phone, i was happy and started the odin process on my computer.
3 hours passed... odin was stuck at DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET message, phone was still showing the shovel
I thought something must have gone wrong and tried to start the process again.
This is where I am now, adb will no longer recognize the phone, and none of the button combinations will get me to download mode, all I see is the phone--!--PC symbol on startup.
I really have tried to search everywhere for a solution to this, but other than the 2 buttons+plug cable OR three button reboot twice, I can't find another way that will either allow me to get into download mode and try odin again, or just do a factory recovery.
Thank you guys so much! I really need some help on this one....
I don't suppose your battery is dead? Something to try - put the phone on your charger for about half an hour, then take the battery out for about 5 minutes. Make sure your sim/sd cards are removed, then install the battery, hold both volume buttons down, and connect the usb cable from the pc to your phone.
You can also make a download jig, which I'm told works wonders.

I was hoping that I don't have to go with the full out hardware solution, but I guess that's the way this piece of brick is demanding...
will update on what happened. thanks, kegobeer!

Jetzhou,
I am in the same boat as you are. So do you have your problem figured out yet???
I am in the hope that now you can shed some light for me.
Not sure if you guys have seen this post or not, but just in case you can get into download mode somehow, this may help get your 3 button working again. There may also be some people in the same position as you that may have posted in this tread.

The problem is I can not get into the Download Mode. It is just stuck in the booting loop and I can not get in either Download or Recovery mode. As soon as I plug in the USB, the phone is shut down to the battery charging screen.

The way I have been doing it is by getting Odin running, hold the vol up and vol down then plugging in the usb. I'm sure you may have already tried it that way, but just in case you used the pwr and one of the vol buttons instead, I thought I would mention it.
I know there have been problems with some people's hardware too, so there is a possibility of that.
not every phone has the button combo for download mode. it sounds like your boned, you should of talked to a few people before trying this kind of thing, its not hard but can easily be done wrong.
Look up on my posts in my profile I help a lot of people already going to download mode without using 3 button combo.

My Phone: Stock Eclair 2.1 JH7 update Build 1006
(amazingly no GPS or shutdown issues)
Rooted
Voodoo Lagfix
That's It.
I read alot on here about upgrading to Froyo, regarding having to un-root and stopping lag fix. I could not figure out how to stop lagfix, which I figured I had to be rooted to do so, so I just didn't un-root either. So my mistake I just said F-It and started Kies Mini and plugged in my phone. My firmware updated and my phone rebooted, however it gets to the Galaxy S screen, and instead of booting up my screen goes black and nothing happens, like it shuts off. So, what should I do from here, as this is my only phone, and I don't have readily available access to a computer.
get to the download mode and reflash to stock using odin.
well that's what I was thinking of doing, however. it seems I can only boot into recovery mode. Vol. Down button and Power button. The three button combo seems to do nothing for me, don't know why. So how do I get into Download mode? My first phone WAS the three button combo.

the key combo may not work on certain build phone. if it happens to your phone, you have to build a jig yourself or buy one (i can send you one, PM me).

Been about 15 mins since hitting Master Clear phone still says Downloading... Do not turn off target. I forget, having only flashed once to the leaked, does it usually take this long?

you cannot be in the download mode if you just want to do a master clear. boot the phone normally, enable the debug mode and do the master clear using odin there.
No it shouldn't. Another thing that helped was to install the driver package that is included in the Original Post for 1-click. If that still doesn't work after 5 or so minutes, unplug and try again, but this time just go for the ROM flash. You should see the blue status bar moving on the phone. I had the same issue. This took me a few tries.
well odin now says Removed! like i'm supposed to celebrate. phone still says downloading.. lol I guess I should have hit START instead.
Thanks so much clemmie. phone is back to stock you can master clear in download mode, just takes 20 mins. lol I hit start instead and it put me back to the stock jf6. now time to get froyo wee! thanks alot guys, thread can be closed and deleted if you would like.
Hello everybody,
I have a question regarding the actual situation of my phone since nobody on here seemed to had the same issue.
My diagnosis is that my phone is softbricked.
If I try to boot it normally the first Galaxy S logo appears but when the loading animation is supposed to begin, it doesn't. Additionally my phone vibrates one time with a logn vibration and after half a second with 3 short vibrations, looping on this situation.
Neither download mode or recovery mode button combo seems to work.
If I start with one of the two and release the keys as soon as the first logo appears it will be stuck at boot vibrating as above, if i don't release them, it just keeps rebooting.
Do you think I could get out of this with a download mode usb jig?
Thanks in advance
Soft brick......Yes to the jig.......try adb commands if you can get a connection..."adb reboot download"
Edit: Also have you read the many other attempts to try get to download... without battery but plugged in then combo, holding combo then putting battery in (no cable), finally cable and battery in then combo... i think there are a few more....
Also i hope you came across this
Telling us what you have done to your phone will help greatly!
What rom on /from, kernel, theme - what were you doing when it went tits-up?

try removing your battery for a few seconds. then hold down the vol down+power+menu then insert the battery while holding the 3 buttons to display the download mode.

I was on a stock 2.2 rooted room and I was following the guide to install cyanogenmod which is placed in the cyanogenmod wiki site...
after I flashed the speedmod kernel with hemdall, I got stuck in this situation.
Hi everyone. I have read the many threads on how to unbrick my Galaxy Note 1 and nothing works.
The problem appeared suddenly when I was trying to close an application called voice recorder.
The phone started to get on a boot loop. So I removed the battery, put it back on and tried to reboot it and was presented with a welcome menu set up in spanish. I shut down my phone, then removed the battery again, put it back and rebooted and since that my phone is no longer working. I have a completely black screen with no activity whatsoever.
I have tried the recovery option: volume up, home and ppower buttons with no response from the phone. Looks like it is completely dead
I have tried the flash odin option volume down, home and power button and none of my odin programs (odin 3 v3.07/ v1.85 or v.1836) are picking it up on the port.
What are my other options to revive my phone.
The last flash I used was Jelly Bean N7000XXLT9_N7000XXLT3_N7000OXXLT3_HOME.tar.md5.
I am also waiting for a jtag to come in the next few days.
Many thanks for your suggestions if there are any.
