Just bought my wife a fascinate and sold her iphone. She had videos on her iphone she is trying to play on her fascinate however the player doesnt support the format (.m4v) I know I can recode the videos to a avi or mpg format I just dont want to spend that kind of time.
Is there a video player out there anyone can reccommend that plays other formats outside the fascinate's select few?
M4V is acutally already encoded in MP4, the only difference is the extension. Have you tried playing these files on the fascinate? what specifically are these. videos captured by the phone? Downloads from itunes? i've never had an iphone, but i used itunes to download a video (the free music video fo the week) and put it on my fascinate and it played right away. what is the exact issue you are having? Please be specific.

Here is a link to a player that plays just about everything.
http://www.filestube.com/ef8b1189a5cca0f903e9/go.html
Soul Player (Free)
mVideoplayer (free)
using cifsmanager allowed me to use the stock player for anything. I had(ve) many of those file types left over from airvideo.
jatilq is right those will work. I just had to add that I've found doubletwist player to play everything I've thrown at it and if you are really desperate, rockplayer.
I tried everyones suggestions and they still are not playing. To be more specific one of the movies was a digital download from itunes that we recieved with the bluray version of the movie and another was a movie that was purchased through itunes. I guess I will just have to recode them.
files were in .m4v which is a mp4 file type.
Thanks again for everyones help.
Forgive me for being new at this, but aren't there liscensing issues with itunes videos or the digital copies that come with some dvds? I have doubletwist & it works great for importing playlists from itunes but when I try to play any itunes videos it tells me playback is not authorized.

Correct. M4V if downloaded from itunes store is encoded. The easiest way around is download a program that rips the video why you watch it. Ill post a link in a little.

How do I get movies that I have downloaded from iTunes onto my phone. I searched google but there is no "easy" method for this, so I thought I would go to all my buddies here on xda.
Is there a simple app that can do this task? Thanks
I have yet to try to view a movie on my phone from any source, but I always used Any Video Converter for my PSP back in the day. But I don't know if that will work.
***EDIT*** Okay I'm trying "Any Video Converter" now lol
I thought you were saying any "video converter"
no worky.
Have to pay for the pro.

Hi all,
is there an app that can play quicktime movies?
Even better is there a way of being able to play the movies directly from the gmail app so if someone send me a movie from an iphone I can play it straight away??
Cheers
bryan
Dunno about the email part, but look for Rockplayer to play quicktime movies/clips.

Decent player although its surely another galaxy s video player ripped and feature packed. That said Rockplayer being the other galaxy s rip will likely copy all features found here.
sent from my Nexus S XDA Premium App because I'm worth it
Thanks.
Unfortunately, it doesn't see the video taken by my Nexus S....
Updated OP to new version 1.0.132

It does you have to select the camera folder on SD card and will search for media files in that directory
Thanks. Best player!
Works the same as Rock Player for me. RockPlayer decodes 720p (mkv) fine but theres no audio. Regular .avis have sound
Definitely nice video player though, I'll keep it
As usual, can't play anime mkv videos without doing slow-mo. I think vlc is the only third party app that can compete with the galaxy player.

Can someone help me, I have installed moboplayer on my Nexus S and I am have a few questions.
1. When I connect my Nexus S to my computer what folder/directory should I be putting my video files in?
2. When I start moboplayer on my Nexus S, I am also confused about which folders I should choose. Also, when I start moboplayer I get "there's no SD card, make sure it is usable".
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Highly recommend using dice player for best HD playback becasue it uses hardware acceleration unlike mobo, rockplayer..ect
But to your question
you manually select what folder you want it to scan i made a folder called Movies..also dont use the one in OP its now available on the market

You were really vague in answering my question though. I am not new to computers but I am new to this. Do I have to modify (root) my Nexus for this to work?
For instance I connect my Nexus S to my laptop and can get the "removable disk (H" option in my computer. Can I make any folder within there and call it "movies"?
OR is there a specific sub folder I need to be in?
Thanks for your help.

Bah, no wonder I couldn't see the files. I needed to disconnect the device from my computer.
lol
hey
i downloaded rock player but when i play the movie using rock player the volume of the movie being played is pretty less... is there any player which is better than the rock player and which has high volume?
MX Video Player is by far the best video player on Android IMO.
It was the only player that could play 720p MKV with subtitles without any kind of lag, problems with subtitles or sound. You can also change between audio-tracks.
It also got a the prettiest interface.
Subsonic streams audio and video, using ffmpeg to covert video to flv and audio to mp3.
With flash support released yesterday I've been using subsonic to play both SD and HD movies on my xoom. The HD quality is obviously not as good as converting the video and playing with the native app, but it's still pretty good. If you are lazy like me and don't want to convert, it's perfect.
Visit subsonic.org to download the software that runs on your PC (or if you have a readynas there is an addon!). The software is free, but you need to donate any amount for the video streaming. Then grab the free app on the market and you're set!
*yay*
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
Subsonic kicks ass. It's definitely worth the donation if you get it set up properly.
for music subsinic is awesome. But for video I hate not being able to fast forward easily. Only gripe but still a fantastiv app!
you can fast forward by selecting which minute to start playback at... not perfect but works very well
Any way to play a video in a player and not a browser?
Hi
I find the lack of avi support a major negative. Will Google ever support this?

I hope it does I have a lot of avi files and I don't want to convert all of them since I can use them on my Xbox already but avi with chromecast would be awesome.

It's a double-whammy because AVIs are container files (it has nothing to do with the stuff stored inside), and the compression within AVIs tend to not be streaming-friendly.
A lot of commonly-used CODECs for AVIs store essential decoding stuff at the end of the stream. Not a problem for file-based playback, but horrible for streaming playback since devices can't forsee the future.
Unpacking the AVI container isn't too bad, it's the other stuff - and making sense of the FourCC CODEC identifier at the other end that's the challenge.
What is the best piece of software that will convert avi to mp4?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
I could have sworn that I've streamed Avi files, the problem is the codec, which are usually not compatible.
You can even test this by changing the codec and leaving Avi as a container.

I suggest A's Video Converter if you have a newer Intel CPU or AMD graphic card, it utilizes them for fast encoding without slowing down the computer much. For a fast computer it could take 10-15 minutes to convert a full movie instead of an hour or more. It's a batch converter so you can add your files and let it run over night.
http://bluesky23.yu-nagi.com/en/AsVideoConv.html
You have to set up a few things in the app like set Encoder to AMD VCE or Intel QSV. Also the correct formats to be compatible with Chromecast (MP4 container, H.264 video, AAC audio).
If you have nVidia graphic card you can use CUDA for fast encoding, but most programs that utilizes it cost money, such as Badaboom.

I've used DVD Catalyst to convert most of mine for my Zoom and wife's IPad. Works like a charm and they keep it updated with new platforms hitting the market.

RealPlayer Cloud is sort of like a "cloud Plex" - their SureStream feature makes sure the requesting device gets a stream that it can play - even if the source file isn't normally playable. tl;dr - RealPlayer Cloud does the transcoding for you - as long as the media is on their cloud.
