android.policy.odex - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

sorry I accidentally deleted the file "/system/framework/android.policy.odex". When I restart, phone crashes, how can I fix my problem? ....
please help me, I'm crisis!
P.S. I can not go into recovery mode by pressing vol + vol-and power!

See if this will work. This is my from the Stock TW Froyo build. If it doesn't work you would be best off doing an odin back to stock and start over.

how can I putt it in my phone?.... with adb shell i haven't permision of root (at su command it return segment fault! )

So you don't have superuser access on your phone. I would suggest trying to root if your phone will let you. If you cant root I would flash back using Odin one click.

[Q] Can't boot to stock recovery.

I flashed I9000 and now I cannot boot to stock recovery to apply the update.zip. Any ideas? Holding voule up and down then holding power dies not work... just switches back and forth between the samsung and ATT boot logos.
you can find two apps in the market that will help. Terminal Emulator, intall, open, grant su permisions and then type su >enter< reboot recovery. Or another app even easier, Quick Boot only three options with this click on Recovery.
The recovery mode won't work unless you have the correct kernel anyway.
First get the one-click odin stock flasher then get into download mode by holding the down volume button, the home key, and then press power (so you're holding all at the same time). It should put you right into download mode.

And if it doesn't work, you can connect your phone to your computer, start adb shell and type in 'reboot recovery'. Your phone will enter cwm and you can restore a backup, reflash a rom..
I use this method if I get a bootloop. (I'm developing a rom.) I think it's very helpful, because you don't must use smartflashtool.
cakebomb.
in some situation adb cannot connect the phone and you have to use the smartflash tool
Anim Mod bootloop
I have the same problem here! I got bootloop after using anim mod. I'm able to go to stock recovery. I had backup my file then did factory reset but problem still not solved. I had backup my framework-res.apk file but it's not on a flashable zip format.
i've tried using apk multi tool on trying to do and adb push but it's not working
what can I do next?
connect your phone to pc in s/w upgrade mode->pull out your battery, hold + and plug in the usb in phone..and after that, use smart flash tool to flash firmware(v20) with CWM included..and after firmware flash your phone will enter in CWM recovery, now from CWM you need to flash supersu from sd card..after flashing firmware and superuser, DO a data, cache, davlik cache wipe !..and just after this you can exit from CWM(reboot)
Here's a link to all tools that you need to repair your phone. You need to use smartflash tool, a V20 firmware with cwm( you can download it from here), and put the Superuser.zip to your sd card..and install USB driver if you haven't installed it yet
I use this method every time when my phone is stuck on bootloop or if I've flashed a ROM that doesn't have root..or other situations.. This method brings you to a rooted gingerbread with CWM(this is all what you need, because from here you can do what you want..for example flashing which ROM you like )
!!! You can use this method anytime...doesn't matter which ROM you have or if your phone is rooted or not. After using this method your phone will be fully rooted, will have CWM recovery and android 2.3 gingerbread !!!

[Q] Gingerbread 2.3.6. cannot enter to recovery menu

Hi,
I bought galaxy ace a week ago... updated via the latest gingerbread 2.3.6. (official way). After few days of testing the phone I found out that it is quite slow therefore I decided to root it... there is the problem, I cannot enter to recovery menu (home + power), even to download menu (home + vol down + power), everytime I hold the above mentioned combination I got soft reset of the phone... no menu, no nothing. I could not find anything on the web.. Could you help me how to enter to recovery menu OR how to root to CM7.2. a CWM without entering to recovery menu.
I believe the recovery menu has been blocked with new gingerbread 2.3.6.
Thank you.
I don't think so (about the blocked recovery) ..u go on trying dude ..recovery mode is a bit tougher to get in stock rom ..u should get it on the 10th attempt ( at least) I believe ..btw there are rooting guides in this forum ...check them out
Proud to own an ANDROID
Prouder to be a part of XDA
does it mean that i should hold power + home for 10 soft restarts?
I think so here's a tip press the home button first ..keep it pressed and then press the power button UNTILL THE SCREEN COMES ON...recovery mode is tougher to get in stock rom(well at least for me )..in cm7 its nothing ..

I tried to soft restart 10 times no luck... even with your tip...can anyone else help me please?
only odin can help you as if you are not able to get into any kind of recovery and want cwm then odin is the only path for you .. do backup contacts, sms if you want
all other things will be lost..
and if you don't want to loose things then choose to skip rooting and love what you have now
and 2.3.6 haven't blocked recovery btw as i am using it
I cant use ODIN as I cannot access to download menu (vol down + home + power). Anyone else who can me advice?
turn your phone off!
Now without pressing the power button!
Hold the center button and plug your charger!
Still does not work, any other solution?
Try this if you have root access then install ROM toolbox from the market and try going into recovery via the app

Dude read the post properly I guess he's on stock rom and the only way of rooting gingerbread is the update.zip method ( correct me if I'm wrong ) ..so there's no way he could have root access ...

HE CANNOT ENTER RECOVERY MODE!
If you bought that way you should take it back show problem and let service take care of that!
Say that you were trying to do a factory reset when you found out that you coudn´t enter recovery mode!
I'm on stock ROM, just flashed this morning using ODIN. Even root will go then. To go into recovery press the home+power button till the phone turns on, leave the power button not the home button. You should land up in recovery. If that doesn't work then try using ADB. Go to adb with your phone normally on:
adb reboot recovery
but try flash recovery again
to enter fastboot:
adb reboot bootloader
And if You've worked with ODIN then download a new bootloader and flash it using ODIN.I think (not sure) the problem is with secondary bootloader (SBL).Put the phone into download mode using ADB:
adb reboot download
This will put your phone in download mode. Check Odin now, and if ID:COM has turned yellow, you’re good to gnce you’re satisfied, press the Start button on Odin. The flash will take couple of seconds, after which your phone will reboot automatically.
That’s it. This should fix your download and recovery mode 3-button combo issue. You can now apply any mods with the normal procedure.

You had mentioned updating to 2.3.6 in the official way? Kies or Service center? If Kies then did you get the download mode when it was updating? And No, Recovery is not blocked on 2.3.6

If even adb isn't working
I would take it in to the service center and tell them you can't access (stock)recovery

yeps it might be difficult first time,,,but never after i found it difficult,,,,
u need a working hand and usable brain....
hold the middle button and power button and as when u see the start screen just let go off the power button but still hold on middle button,,,
and u are in recovery mode...
same goes for download mode
keep hold on the vol down+middle button+power and then just let go off power button as u see the start screen(rather anything coming on screen )
enjoy
---------- Post added at 02:25 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:21 PM ----------
there is also an app in market ... quick boot or speed boot something like that...
and it DOESNT need root permission (long time no use so dont remember exactly but it should be)
u can try that
I had the same problem, but luckily I found this thread.
I can enter to recovery ONLY with adb reboot recovery command, pressing home button does nothing.

(Very Strange case) Can't get into download mode / Tried button combo + Adb Reboot

Hi guys, as the title said, I cannot get into download mode no matter what I try.
My 3 button combo were working right time ago when I was on a ICS Rom, but then I wanted to change the ROM so I went back to stock eclair to start again, and since that my nightmare began.
Eventhough, I was able to flash a new ICS ROM by getting into recovery by terminal emulator (Cause the 3 button combo stop working) I I continue without being able to get into Download mode.
I have tried:
All button combos + Plugin the USB cable (I mean, volumen rocker up and down, etc)
Terminal emulator "reboot download mode (Phone reboot but not on download, it just does a regular reboot)
Adb reboot download mode (Same as terminal emulator, does a regular reboot)
Eventhough, im able to get into recovery both by terminal emulator or ADB (But not by button pressing)
Whats is wrong with my captivate?
Im missing something?
Thank u all for ur help!
PD: By the way, im rooted, on ICS OAKP V6, But I have tried on CM7, CM9, CM10 and same story.

When you went back to Eclair... did you use a one-click? If so did it include eclair bootloaders?
Update: Also have you considered making or buying a jig? Whether adb or the button combos work or not a jig will definitely force your phone into download mode. That is unless there's something very very wrong with it.
Try to use quiick reboot application free available on market i have faced same issue in past and that app helped me to get into download mode

Remove the battery. Connect your phone to your PC with the usb cable. Now press Vol Up and Down button together and insert the battery again. You should be into the download mode. If you don't see regular download mode screen but see the screen with the phone and computer icon screen instead, it's just another form of the download mode. You should be able to use the odin now.

[Q] z3c doesn't go into recovery

I'm going crazy with my new z3c. Unlocked the bootloader, installed recovery via fastboot but I'm not getting this thing into recovery.
When I do the hardware buttons (pressing volume buttons) this doesn't do anything, I'm going straight to regular boot. Or I'm to stupid to perform this trick.. My z3c doesn't give any pink led or whatever when powering on.
Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: adb reboot recovery doesn't bring me anywhere as well. Maybe my unlock or recovery flash didn't succeed? fastboot gave me only OK values..
do this:

then this again:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60495950&postcount=544
i had the same problem yesterday, took me hours to fix it!
i think that when you run that script, it fails to get permission so it doesn't actually do anything which is why you need to fix permission in the first step and then follow the second link to reinstall recovery.
