GT-I9000 @ XDA App

First thing would be to make another thread, so it would be even more confusing =)
But seriously - read some of the pinned topics (some are for developers).

cefurkan, please start with the sticky at the top of all of these sections, titled "STOP!! Before posting, read this NOW!!"

You know what's a good idea? Using the search function. Do your own research instead of wasting people's valuable time. You'll learn more that way too. Sorry, but it had to be said.

Xperia ROM development forum is a mess!!
Guys,
every day i see a new thread created by some users.
It is mostly like, how can i do this, how can i do that.
It is really simple, if you want to ask something about an option or a function that isn;t working then please post in the corresponding thread so we can have a clean forum.
Here is a link to the rules:http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=256
please read it guys, it is very annoying to see a new thread everytime.
mods, please put some time in this xperia forum with cleaning out the ''litter''
@ all, thank you very much for your cooperation.
Now @ 203 views and nobody has left a comment or suggestion or something like that?
I think this is what the community has become, like only get what you need and then use it and then complaining, no suggestions or anything, no thanks for the chefs ?
i understand what ur saying but a im pretty sure a mod has just moved some of the useless threads because a lot of them have been moved

No.
I think people read your post and ignored it because it contained nothing useful in itself. It's a public forum, if you want neat and tidy you're probably in the wrong place.
I'm not looking to pick argument it just seems to me your original post was pointless. In most cases the title of a thread gives you enough info to decided whether it's worthy of reading.
Sure there are plenty of people who come here just to get what they want and give nothing back, again it's the nature of the beast. But I think there's still plenty of people who are willing to give as well as take and on a whole the forum still functions well.
My biggest gripe would be people asking questions answered on the previous page (i.e. lack of search) not untidiness.
Also I think the X1 forum has lost a lot of active members to the LEO forum recently. Again this is inevitable given the age of the device and the progression of handsets.
The LEO thread is much more active currently IMO. POP over there, don't forget most of what they're discussing applies to our device too.

this is true, but some can also give reasons (which are also true) that some threads are really huge, specially good rom threads, on average they are 1000 posts longs, some go as long as 11,000 posts (valkyrie), when someone new get a rom and gets a small bug, it is really impossible to read all past thread, and unfortunately the thread search is not always helpful...
the best thing for a rom forum is to be a wiki, where each rom gets a page with generic information, and links to threads of sub pages that have useful information, like how to fix a known bug, or where to get an app that does that thing..... and leave the bla bla discussions or personal opinions on the forum.
some rom developers follow such a method, but partially, in the first few posts reserved for the rom you sometimes find links to common issues and solutions, but after a while everything gets messy again....
a ROM is a "product" that needs its own area or even a forum by itself. not a single forum for many products, this brings the mess....
but this need much organization, the price to be less messy

You are right and its mostly down to newbies. I'm someone who makes a point of holding off on posting on a few forum until I see the layout, get the rules, etc. so I don't annoy seasoned members and get a bad rep for being stupid.
A lot of new members to the site are a bit out of their depth (I know I was when I first joined) and its not really only being used as a developers forum/site any more. If you're a newbie you've got two choices: (1) ask, (2) spend countless hours trying to work it out for yourself.
I guess the lazy ones are a bit thread happy!
EmuX
P.S. You can show people the rules but you can't make them read.
P.P.S. Isn't this another one of those clogging up threads that aren't anything to do with ROM dev though?! (joke)
I hovered around in the X1 forum for a little more than a year, and most recently, after getting a new (additional) toy, I moved over to another forum, the one which is mentioned here already.
Frankly spoken, I have the perception that the X1 forum here is quite in order, while the HD2 forum is a real mess. For many "similar" problems and questions, many newcomers open a new thread instead of using the search function. In case of the X1 forum, there is much more "discipline".
Plus, the mods of the forums are quite effective here, I would say.
I am still very thankful that xda devs exists, thanks to all who contribute, especially the cooks... and also to those who help understanding the forum (and its rules) to newcomers. All of us started "small" and as "newb", no? And from time to time, I try to help, too - even if I am just an "average" user.
Mods please close thread
I think the point is made.
mods, please close this thread

Forum rules link doesn't work in the sticky., also been through 10 pages of thread index to find an answer. If you don't have anything helpful to add, better just keep your rude comments to yourself.
Well the link worked at one point and I will post my comments where ever I want.
The forum rules are on every page of forum pretty much "depeneding on what theme use"
We do not allow the question regards best due to a several reasons: Only you will find the best ROM as all points of view, can cause falming, keeping the forum clean etc.
As all threads on this topic thread closed.

Android/Captivate Basics

Hey, just got my first android and am new here. Don't know if this is the adequate section, but if not can a mod please move it?
Anyways, I'm trying to learn how Android works. That includes rooting and developing, so if there are some educational threads, could anyone point them out to me? Sorry if I'm a bit lost

Read through the stickys (pins next to each thread on left side) on top of each section. Especially the one that say read!! Read instructions before you try anything!
Really good one to look through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=887525
And please search (top right under rules and news) through the threads if you have a question before you post anything, because some most likely has had a similar question/problem that has already been answered
Good luck
Shameless self plug - read the sticky in my signature if you have any questions on what something means.
Research is gonna be your key. Your search-fu will need to be strong. Good place to start is the stickies. Thread closed

How do I POST replies in DEVELOPMENT Forums?

I have an Atrix 4G and a fair bit of knowledge on it. These forums are really good, but it would be useful if I could reply to threads in the atrix development. I have answers and questions, but I don't know if I need to be approved or something like that in order to post in the forums.

Since you are past 10 posts now you should be able to post there. If it still doesn't work in a few hours, then you might ping one of the mods in that forum to take a look at your account and see if there is some issue there.
You need 10 posts to post in development forums, which you can find out more about by looking at the links in my signature.
The server only updates permissions periodically so yours may not have been changed yet, but you have the required post count.
I've had a look at your posts and you're not a typical "10 post spammer" that we see a lot of in here, which is greatly appreciated, but it's still worth a reminder about the following things.
Don't create threads in Development forums unless it's to release software. Questions go in either a relevant existing thread, or a new one in the Q&A forum (or General forum if there's no device-specific Q&A forum). And on that note, always search thoroughly before asking. Nothing irritates other members more than seeing the same questions asked over and again.
Anyway, just bare the above in mind and go enjoy the forums. I'm just glad I don't have to delete a bunch of pointless posts

Yeah man I just want to contribute. Do I need a "thanks" or something like that ?
Also can an admin "approve me" or something like that? My only other question is the five minute between post wait can that be removed? For example I'm just waiting now to send this reply, it's no big deal, just wondering.
Also I posted a thread here asking basically the same question, I don't know how to delete it, but here's a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783730

Nope, its not reflected by Thanks Meter. Just 10 posts is decent enough. For deleting/closing that Thread, you need to contact the Forum Specific Moderator assigned to that Forum.

At the top of each forum the mods responsible for that forum should be listed. I was suggesting to send one of them a PM, but Archer answered you here.
I got it. Thanks for the help I can post now!
@mf2112 thanks it's working fine now I can post replies !

[Read before/after posting Q] Basic Courtesy/Responsibility!!

Hello New users!!
I have been browsing SGN forums from last one and half month or so and observed few things in Q&A section- One- users does not change title of the question thread even if the issue has been resolved and it confuses people and they keep on posting possible solutions (just waste of their time in my opinion)- So, if your issue has been resolved then please add "(solved) or (Resolved)" in your threads title, also post/mention/highlight the solution which helped you, so that it can help others in future.
Second- Please do not post questions in General section, Q&A section exists for a reason
Third- Please try to search before creating a new thread, at least check the sticky threads in all sections and you will get lot of answers there only, at least for rooting and flashing and will save us from lot of unnecessary threads
Last but not least- I am not sure why people hesitate in clicking "thanks" button, I have seen lot of post like "thanks a million" "you are the best" etc but no click on "thanks".
"Thanks posts" are not allowed on XDA, that's one of the points of the thanks button and if you'll click on thanks then it will definitely motivate and encourage those people who are always ready to help others and put lot of their time in it, I think best way to show your appreciation is to click "thanks".
Note- This is my personal opinion based on my observation and does not mean at all that anyone here is against questions.
How to change title of thread- If you wish to change the title of your thread then follow these steps-
1. Go to OP (post #1) and click "Edit/Delete'
2. Then click "Go advanced"
3. You will now get an option to edit title of the thread.
4. Change it and then click "save changes". Done!!

It's not the thrid, it's first, which should be sticked at the top of the forum, 7-sized in red, with warning of death penalty. Half - at least! - of the Q&A section is spammed with questions, which has been answered at the stickies, or destined to be asked at the stickies.
