So Ermm... Anyone tried to install Galaxy Tab stuff into your phones?
I managed to install Touchwiz launcher from Tab into Firmware DXJP1 And we have landscape and port Rotation working... It Faster compared to standard Firmware.. And there does not seem to have Lag at the moment with 20 Installed apps..
How i did it?
I Flashed DXJP1(2.2) Which was a DE-Odex ROM by Default..
Look the TouchwizLauncher copy and replaced it in /system/app/
And Reboot...
Done.
ENSURE YOU BACKUP YOUR TOUCHWIZLAUNCHER BERFORE ATTEMPTING AND IT IS GOOD TO HAVE ANOTHER LAUNCHER INSTALLED AND HOME SET WITHOUT ANY DEFAULT SET JUST INCASE TOUCHWIZ FAILS
Not sure on Untouched ROMs with Odex files tho, The APK given to me was not with any Odex too... :S Uploaded it anyway
This is Development not Q&A... your gonna get flamed..

deathst, maybe you could post here a guide about how you managed to do that. Accordign to what it has been posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805149 it looks like 2.2 on Tab is much better than JPK.
Hope it will eb the same for the official froyo firmware of SGS...

That is good news. I hope Samsung replaces the FS to ext4 or something better than RFS and fixes the GPS issues some of us are having.
Posted a How i did it along with the APK if anyone wants it... I tried Afew more APK, Seems that we can import almost all the APK from Tab into Our galaxy, Wonder if it would be hard to import the whole rom
Besides Samsung Gave us the Sources of the Galaxy Tab not long ago @
http://opensource.samsung.com/
can anyone comfirm whether this is working on jpk?
I would like to know if it works on jpk thanks again
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
It doesn`t work on JPK, deodexed.
Don't work on JPK too. Nice black screen
Luckily I had Launcher Pro Installed, it spared me from re-flasing.
thanks deathst.
I tried to replace that apk file with root explorer and the system got frozen while it was pastign the file to system/app. I switched off the device, then switched it on, unlocked the screen sliding my finger from side to side and I see that I dont have anything. I only see the battery and hour icons. The bar on top to activate/deactive wireless, bluetooth, gps and thats all.
cache wipe didn't solved it
How can I have my phone working again normally?
thanks

same here! how to solve it?? I replaced the file with root explorer and the phone got frozeen during the paste process, so I switched on/off the phone and now I only see the battery and signal icons and the rest is whole black screen
If the debug mode is on, you can replace your backup of the file :
adb shell
& su
# mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock6 /system
# rm /system/app/TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
# cp /sdcard/YourBackupPlace/TouchWiz30Launcher.apk /system/app/TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
You mean usb debug mode right? I think it was disabled, at least I didn't touch anything about it...
I'm installing android sdk now to check if adb can work, but as I said I think debug mode was disabled...
Any other tip? Re-flashing the firmware wouldn't solve the issue? I would lost all my installed apps, but it's better than lost the phone...
PS: I have access to recovery and download modes.
reflashing would certainly solve it... and can really not understand how people just do stuff without making sure they have a way to reverse it... and then complain about data loss.. especially since this was not confirmed to work by anyone..
I agree with fAtaXe...
(You can trying to make an update.zip too :/ ...)
What about JIT files? can it be imported from the tab's firmware???
Thanks. I solved the problem re-flashing the firmware. Fortunately I had access to the task manager (pressing for few seconds the central button) so I could take note of the apps that were installed in the phone
I know it was my responsability and I didn't complain to deathst , samsung or anyone else because of that.
My phone is less than 2 weeks old so it seems obvious that maybe I didn't have enough experience to do that, but I read that the trick was working for deathst and I thought that Tab is using 2.2 so I imagined it also would work on my SGS with JPK.
I assumed the risk and tried it. Is that really a bad thing? I don't think so, specially because I didn't blame on anyone, I know it was my mistake. At least I learned that I should enable debug mode before doign that kind of operations, lol
Sad to Hear it does not work for JPK :S Strangly i have no idea why.. The Galaxy Tab Source i got are also Deodex and my DXJP1 is also Deoxed :S Weird indeed...
I'm sorry if i forced your phones to reflash... I did not expect it to fail on 2.2 ROM :S Truely i'm sorry about that...

I think i figured it out Modaco doesn't support it in the rom I went over tried out Gumbo's I like it a bit better than modaco's cause it doesn't feel as stock as modacos. it is based on his . Maybe there's an apk to enable it floating around somewhere.

Ya that sounds right. It started as soon as I updated to 2.2. Hopefully there will be a fix or something soon.
use fresh's kitchen to clear both the boot and dalvik cache. voila, problem solved.

if you have voice search then you're missing the libspeech.so file in the lib folder, in system
go to you cmd and check to see if your libsppeech.so file is in there if not then push the file back in and reboot.
attached is two zip either push the file on your own or the sign zip put it in your sdk card and install in form recovery like you would to a rom.
good luck
Hey Y'all,
Anyone know what would cause my internal memory to get about 1mb fuller in what seems like each day. I turn my phone off completely at nite, I am non rooted with OS 2.1
I have even removed some apps to see if this stops. It hasn't Seems like something is writting to my memory with each new startup.
Is there an app, other than Astro or File Manager that will allow me to trim some fat off the internal memory. Also, where (what file) would that be stored in.
Sorry if I haven't explain'd this well but its got me baffled too.
When I updated the OS to 2.1, I was only using about 60mb of internal memory, then I restored all my apps and it came up to about 75mb used, now doing normal daily backups and just normal loads, I have used up 91mb. My backups are saved on the SD, not the internal.
If anyone has any ideas, I would be greatful. At this rate, I will run out of internal memory in about 2 months, lol
any reason why u dont wanna root??? it makes life with android so much easier..
anyway, ur probably buildin up a lot of cache.. if you was rooted you could just use cachemate found in the market and one click would get rid of your cache.. but sense your not, your gonna have to delete cache manually one app at a time..
menu>settings>applications>manage applications
let that load (it will take a min or two depending on how many apps u've got)
after it loads, click menu then sort by size..
start with the first app on the list and click on it.. once that opens you will see "Cache" and the amount (if theres any).. click on Clear Cache.. do that for each app (you will see that a lot of apps are at 0 already so just go onto the next one)
hope that helps..

I know u r right, still thinking it over. My problem is really all the people who are rooted and all the problems they are having. This forum has 1000's of the" Help, I rooted and now this or that doesn't work" OR "Help, I just rooted and now my phone is Locked and I can't access anything" that scares me. Well, just cause you root dosent mean you need a custom ROM. You can stay stock rooted and just get the rooted abilities. IE Wifi tethering, Cashe cleaning, a bunch of other stuff.
Most people had the fear of messing up there phone, however as in the previous post you can root and stay with the stock ROM. I have rooted several android phones, not just hero's, and have not once had a problem. I know that some have problems if they are not on Sprint and try flashing a ROM which might changed their profile info. And the great thing is that there have not been any issues with the 2.1 RUU. So if you rooted and had problems, which I doubt, you can always RUU back to 2.1
They're not having issues due to root...it's the custom roms they are loading. I've had mine rooted since last November, and I haven't had a problem with the phone because of root. Now, I have had problems with custom roms before...but the nice thing about root is that you can always reflash to a new custom rom...or you can go back to stock (or stick with stock if that's your preference).
All root does is gives you more control of your phone. What you do with that control is up to you.

Basically, this.
Well thx folks, so if I do this root proceedure:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
, I will have SuperUser perms and tipically NO problems as long as I stick with the stock ROM? Another question, Tethering is very important to me. I currently use PdaNet, will it still work after ROOT plus give me WiFi Tethering too?
Thanks again, this just got more interesting.
Pretty much wifi teather does have its limits but its still pretty wicked
Thx again folks, Ima gonna do it. Seems fool proof and the positives outweigh the negatives. I can also revert to pure stock if all else fails, so, WHY NOT?

Yes I did, I decompressed the 3 files within hero-root.zip to the C:\android-sdk-windows\tools folder.
The funny thing however is in the

adb.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinsbApi.dll
It this correct?
I'm in Canada using Bell (i9000m)
I have rooted my phone. I've used the 1 click lag fix. I've overclocked it a bit using an app/widget.

I can't for the life of me access Keis (tried everything)
I am curious: how do I update my firmware? what about the 2.2 froyo update? will it be OTA? will I still get it? What about the GPS fix?
Basically im wondering how will I be able to get these updates and fixes if I can't access Keis -- and my phone is rooted (does that even matter?) ?
Thanks in advance guys
No one?
Just basically wondering about future updates (gps fix / froyo 2.2) --- will I still be able to receive these if I rooted my phone?
What if I can't access Kies ?
I don't think the Galaxy S has an OTA function
Which means, it's either KIES or Odin

Christ. This phone is bar none the best avail. But easily has the WORST software I've ever seen.
KIES is messed and will never work with my phone/computer. It doesn't recognize anything.
So my only option is ODIN? is there anything I should be worried about with ODIN? is it really simple to flash? or do I gotta make partitions etc.
Any chance you have launcher pro installed?
im a newbie so im just providing info i have read my self and so far that ive seen odin is very simple to follow proper instructions theres a youtube video when ur flashing something your given step by step instructions by who ever uploaded the file and if you have the 3 button combo working your good to go as you can always reflash
The phone actually does have software capable of doing OTA updates. It probably isn't set up to work yet though.
The lagfix won't affect your upgrading though, just remember to uninstall it before doing the upgrade!
Root will have zero effect too, as it is just an extra (special) application at it's core.
it needs to switch back to TwLauncher for KIES to work
you can use Home Switcher

No you don't have to uninstal just go to settings>applications>manage applications
select launcher pro and then click on the clear defaults button. Next press the home key, it will ask you to choose a home app, choose TW.
Kies does not work untill you do that.
Other things to check is go to settings>status>usb mode select kies
Usb debuging should be OFF
Try to have the pc and phone on a fresh restart before trying to connect.
Basicly it should work.
Yes, Kies works only with TW. Also with the latest Froyo JPC firmware you get yor GPS fixed already.

Well this is the problem: I don't know how to flash (yet) so I'm just trying to learn slowly.
I am not sure if i want to flash it with Froyo FW's -- I kinda wanna wait for Bell to release their 2.2 froyo update (b/c my 3 buttons don't work and hopefully it will fix it AND the GPS)
So basically you guys have helped me with the Kies. But I am curious about the 1-click-lag-fix (I found the APP on the market and it worked) -- i don't wanna mess up my phone cuz the 3 button thing don't work.
So I just use the APP again to Un-root, use the APP again to remove/uninstall the lag-fix, then use Keis (or odin) to install/flash the new 2.2 froyo Bell update (when it comes out) ? then im good to go ?
After I update to 2.2 -- then I root again, and lag fix?

I have a Bell i9000m, rooted, unlocked and on Rogers.
After installing Samsung drivers ( PRIOR TO connecting via usb) Kies worked on first attempt (Win7 64bit). The driver pack is 18 mb and I found it somewhere here on the forms (looking for the link).
Hope that helps.
Hi, I also having GPS problem previously and I hated samsung which produce so bad gps phone but after a while I think I finally found why causes the gps issues. Ok if you go into the GPS test mode by *#1472365*# you will notice that we are using SUPL. SUPL true GPS which will in coorporate with the compass and stalite to fix our position and direction. But our phone compass some how need to be calibrated. Just key in *#0*# then click on sensor. If your compass showing need to be calibrate then just hold your phone by verticaly and rotate it untill you get 3. Now reboot it and try the GPS.
Okay Heres the problem
I am Running DesignGears Perception Build 9.5 and want to use Pandora radio...
Every time i run pandora it will start to play a song and out of no where just stop no specific time just whenever it wants... I have been searching and searching and searching for a fix to no avail. I came upon a thread in xda that i thought might have some Connection or Correlation to my issue
Thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737111
now it shows some steps and thats for The Nexus One and not for Samsung Captivate... Could there be any fix for this because I love the Perception build I checked with DesignGears and people have told me its not the rom. I have reflashed and reinstalled so please don't suggest that and i really don't want to go back to Eclair because Froyo will never be released anytime soon by AT&T we all know this... Please Please Please Help I will be in great debt to whoever helps
Thanks in advance

Did you try using what was instructed?
Could try pulling the build.prop as it instructs (doesn't affect your phone) and see if that line is in there? If so you should be able to use the ADB command to temporarily disable it (i.e. it will turn back on when you reboot your phone) what is causing the issue with Pandora.

May want to try Build 9.9 then. Yes the GPS doesn't work but eh, it comes preloaded with pandora and works.
Hrm - that would be an issue.
I'd say read the Q&A sticky (yes I plug my own posts shamelessly) and look for the ADB how-to link. Can open up the build.prop with notepad and look for the line it posts.
It is pretty simple stuff once you start playing around with it.
Just a couple thoughts. Are you turning off your data 2G/3G to save on data? If so, have you disabled wick when the screen goes to sleep?

Make sure to do a FULL wipe of everything when you install the rom. Odin to stock, remove sim/sd then odin Master clear, copy the rom file(s) to internal SD, then when you are in CWM select erase all user data and then install it as normal.
Worth a shot if you are not too comitted to the current install...
It's been quite a learning curve getting my Sprint CDMA Galaxy Tab and attempting to load every Miui, CM7/CM9 I could find on XDA and Rootzwiki. I never fully tested my tablet before beginning the delve into the flashing world so I don't know if this is an issue with the tablet itself or caused by my endless flashing trials.
I simply am unable to save any settings or data. Everytime I boot up, no matter which ROM (Miui CM7/9), it is always factory reset. This is quite frustrating.
I'm back on stock from odining Sprint EF17 GB w/ original PIT file and this is still happening. Does anyone have any idea if this was self-incurred or if there is a partitioning bug of some sort that I have missed.
Much Thanks in advance!
So every time you turn on your Tab it loads and then reboots in a continuous loop? Do you see the Android OS unlock screen or the load process does not gets so far? Because if it does not then in my opinion the boot loader is incorrect for some reason. That is my opinion.
What you can do if you suspect that the PIT is incorrect, you read your PIT and save via Heimdall and compare it with somebody else who has the same Tab as you have.
Unable to personalize "issue"

Negative. This is not a continuous loop bug. It is a "unable to personalize" bug. I can install market/apps/data/contacts etc etc, but every single time I boot up. it's a Fresh Copy with no personalized settings.

Yes I booted into CWM,fixed permissions, rebooted, put 2-3 icons on desktop, rebooted.
Nothing, it was back to factory default settings.
A permissions issue does make sense, but it didn't work and this is just mind boggling to me.

I'm sorry you have the same problem.
However I'm glad to have someone to share it with. Misery loves company. I've scoured the web for 3 days and have nothing.
Please if anybody knows what's going on. From my non-developer logic I need to find a way to get the changes I make to my phone to write permanently (so to speak), everything I do is temporary until I reboot.
Hmmmm... I suppose you guy's already tried to wipe all caches and reflash the kernel (= not the ROM, just the kernel) ?
Where do I find the Kernal?
It's the zImage file right?
The ROM I'm on right now is JT's CM7 here:
I wanted to try just flashing the kernal but I am unable to locate the zImage file. What directory is it in?
Edit: I found the Kernal, it's actually in the CWM 5.0.2.7 package. I'm gonna try flashing the kernal over to see if it fixes the issue.
Edit2: No cigar, reflashing kernal does not fix this issue. On a side note, I tried to upgrade to CM9 and got "Encryption Unsuccessful". Not that I am knowledgable in this, but it seems the issue may share some commonality with that.

It's the zImage file right?
The ROM I'm on right now is JT's CM7 here:
I wanted to try just flashing the kernal but I am unable to locate the zImage file. What directory is it in?

Hi,
Yah, zImage should be the kernel.
In this thread, I found something about the issue you have. It might have something to do with NoFrillsCPU... Hope this helps

Eh, I just went through all 37 pages of that thread. Couldn't find anything on NoFrillsCPU and didn't see any issues that resemble mine. Was that tthe right thread? I'll do a google for nofrillscpu and see if that brings up anything.

you read very fast then LOL
Anyway, my bad, it's not NoFrillsCPU but it's SetCPU ... It's in the OP : "Please DO NOT check the "Set on Boot" button in SetCPU untill you have tested it, or you may not be able to get control back without a reflash."
EDIT : Looks like there's a misunderstanding in me confused about the CDMA versions. Sounds like this thread has all the solutions you need. I may be wrong , of course...

I think you have my issue confused with another . My issue is that everytime I boot it's a clean boot with google account reset/desktop reset. I can't save any settings or download any apps without it getting wiped by a boot. I don't even think my ROM is currently overclocked but I'll look to see if indeed it's hiding in here somewhere.
Let me know if you see anything else that I can try :-(
Thanks though
Edit: Just checked, my system was not overcloccked and set on boot was not checked so this is definetely not the same issue.
