Long time reader, first time poster.
So really weird thing happened. I've installed a Launcher Pro today. Looks good etc. Phone seems to be running faster too.
But, when I've tried to connect my phone to my laptop via USB I get the following error msg on my phone: "PC connection is only available on idle screen. Close running applications. ".
I checked everything is closed through the task manager. Nothing is running and it is in the idle screen...
Suggestions?
Solution has been found on another forum. TY anyway. :>
just unable the launcher pro than everything is going to be fine and normal...
Just download home switcher and revert to default launcher whenever you want to connect to pc.

Apparently this will not be an issue with Froyo release. Fingers crossed.
I had a similar issue, but for me the problem was the samsung supplied USB cable. I tried with another aftermarket USB cable and it connected correctly

Hello everyone,
Recently Im having a big problem connecting my htc diamond to pc.
Im using the original usb cable,
At the moment i connect the cable to my phone it freezes and the only way to get it working again is taking the battery out of the device.
Its a pretty fresh rom, 1.37...
I turned all (weather and quick gps) applications not to auto update when synced to the computer.
I tryied several soft resets and it doesnt work either.
Also trying to connect it to another pc didnt help.
It happens most of the times, despite very few times it actually worked fine.
I'll be more than glad if anyone helps me to get things work again.

iam new bie, i just newly purchased xperia xli. after using 4 month, iam now facing some problem, every time if i need to charge or connection for active sync i need to restart, and this repeats every time. and if i try to open task manager or Device information in settings it will give an error
"cannot open 'ctlpnl'. A critical conponent is either missing or cannot start because program memory is unavailable. Tap start> settings > system tab> task manager, stop programs that did not automatically stop and try again".
and i cannot even make screen off by pressing power button for that also i need to restart.
So please give me some information regarding this so that i can solve this problem.

I had done it already, after hard reset first time i can charge and connect to active sync also, and if i disconnect it and try another time it wont work, again i have to hard reset to charge or to connect it to active sync. so pls give me solution for this,

xperia usb connection problem
i see no one is taking this matter seriously
i have googled for the past 4 weeks and it seams many people are having this problem with xperia/wm6 devices - its just that not many of them understand the problem and know how to express themselves (e.g. many belive it's a problem with the pc's usb ports)
i would suggest does interested in IT mysteries and things like that to look into this one. i can explain the problem here:
I've used xperia/windows mobile 6 device for about 6 months, syncing it daily or semi daily (or weekly..) all that time via USB connection and active sync installed on winxp.
one day i plugged the usb cord into my phone and - nothing. the phone has started charging as thou it's connected to a charger and not to a PC - one of the first things i noticed cause i specifically always have the "don't charge the device while connected to a pc" box ticked on.
what is very important to know is that NOTHING of the following didn't fix this problem:
changing cords
changing ports
changing pc's
soft reset via button on the back
hard reset
nudging the cable
usb hub pc connection
direct pc connection
updating windows mobile
toggling ANY option in the OS itself
charging/discharging the device
changing the chargin cable, then connecting
leaving it off without a battery for a long period of time (12+ hours)
---------all other idiotic suggestions that are being written all over the net by dumb asses who think they can shoot a guess and come of as smart guys---------
bear in mind that this happened after absolutely no physical damage to the device or any kind of extreme working conditions, exceeded cpu/memory use etc.
it would be great if someone could solve this mystery. activesync is still working via Bluetooth but it's just stupid to transfer files over the slow bluetooth connection whilst having a USB connection as one of the greatest advantages of this kind of a device
i kindly thank in advance to anyone having some kind of an idea about how it's possible for a USB connection to just stop working, for absolutely no reason.

I cannot update my phone via my PC
I recently having problem with my X1 syncing with my home PC and charging from my Laptop
Now I found out that, those mini USB cable might be good enough to charge the phone, or even trying to sync, but then it gets error more and more often. So try getting some better quality cables (ie. those with "Magnetic Shield" near the end), see if that fix the problem

I know that there are countless other threads about this issue all over the Internet, but many of them are from a year ago and none of them have helped me yet.
I've installed every driver recommended from these threads, I've restarted my phone, my computer(s), tried a different cable, USB Debugging on and off, reformatted the internal SD card, and still no luck. Kies doesn't recognize my phone. It doesn't show up in device manager or as an extra drive.
Using TW Launcher. I plug it in, select Mass Storage, hit "Connect USB Storage." It says that USB storage is in use. Yet there is no activity on my PC to indicate as such.
I can't get my Captivate to connect to a computer.
It used to connect just fine up until I upgraded to Froyo.
Is my phone a hopeless case that needs replacing, or am I missing something along the way here? I'd love to root it or at least roll back to 2.1 somehow.

Reboot into download and connect to computer, see if that works.

I had a similar problem and it was definitely a hardware problem. At first it was recognized but then it would only charge via the pc - multiple windows 7 computers would not recognize it. However, a few times it would start installing and then say "disconnected" or something like that. One of those times that I "jiggled" the connector on the phone, it started installing the driver and I didn't touch it and it finished and worked. I disconnected and reconnected and nothing again... I got another refurb and no problems at all.
Well I'll try a few more times. Just glad the Thrill is almost out and I can enjoy that one for 10 months before something better comes along

recently i am faceing a lot of problems with the usb of my phone. it charges but doesnt connect to the pc plus it sometimes doesnt charge too i have to switch the phone off to charge it then.
my phone itself is not detecting the usb as when it does it pops up the usb debug icon on the status bar but it is not doing so.
Need help real bad!!

I've been working with another member on this issue. Go here and read through my suggestions and see if one helps. The first thing I would try, is to uninstall sync manager and all drivers for the phone from your pc. Then, connect the phone and see if it reinstalls sync and the drivers. I hope this helps.

yaa i have gone throught ur post a wyle bak. i tried it all. but there is no use. :crying:
I had same prob few days back. My htc one would behave madly. When i accept call automatically speaker gets on. It would not charge either by charger or by usb connection. Usb wouldn't recognize either.

I think is problem is large. After update htc one sucks. no doubt it added some great features. Or it may be hardware prob as always with HTC specially with HTC one X

thanks , but tried everything. wont connect in fastboot, recovery or anything. cannot relock bootloader or return to stock so just returning it for warranty as it is with fingers crossed. unless someone can tell me if possible without connecting to pc.

usb 2.0 . i have two friends with htc one's and they both connect just fine.
Same issue here! Last night pulled my phone out and it said "incompatible charger, please use original charger". I wasn't even charging the phone, and now it wont charge or connect to PC unless the phone is off. Tried turning off debug/developer/power save/fastboot/ etc with no luck so far.

I am having a problem with the wireless transfering feafure on my Z3C. A couple of hours ago I still could use it to sync my music wirelessly, then suddenly now I cannot use it anymore. When I tap the PC name in the paired PC list and tap connect, the phone try to connect to the PC but some how it cannot and just pop up a failure message.
This is the second time this problem happens and I do not know what causing it. The last time I changed my PC name and it worked again but just a few days later it happened again. Both devices were connected to the same WiFi and the pairing has been set up exactly as the instruction. I don't want to change my PC name over and over again, and I absolutely do not want to use the USB cable, so can anyone suggest me a solution to fix this once and for all?

I'm having the same problem now. It's annoying. I'm resorting to normal usb connection now, but some light on this matter would be great.
Just checked mine (win 8.1 64bit) after not using it for some weeks, it connected right away, no issues.

Ok, I found a solution. I restarted my wifi modem and disconnected my phone and PC. After reconnecting, I followed the instructions on the PC Companion program and now my phone connects properly every time. Hope it helps you.
Bumping this. I have the same problem on Windows 8.1, and nothing worked so far. Tried with two different Internet connections and nothing.
Reseting the rooter - Nothing
Putting screen with 30 min timer and letting it work - Nothing, it always says it's impossible to connect in less than a minute.
There's nothing else running on the PC nor on the phone, so I really don't know what else to try besides another app like AirDroid or Wifi File Transfer.
Any ideas?!
