Windows Phone 7 OS - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a possibility to run Windows Phone 7 OS on your Nexus One?

no! this shouldn't be in development section!

Asked the same today, but it belongs in Q&A anyways
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805174

Theoretically will be posible if the Windows Phone 7 device has the same specs that
our Nexus, perhaps HTC Mozart?.
Here are the ROM of the Mozart if someone with skills want to try (I published in
the other thread too).

Good luck!

+1, but wrong section

I highly doubt you'll find a nexus dev that would dare port WP7. This is an android forum lol.
But, this is xda, so I guess anything is possible

Hopefully is it possible!

the day will come true

I'd say that would be the cheapest way to tryout WP7.
Wouldn't it be considered piracy then?

Would like to see this as well.

Blasphemy!

Got to love that everyone here's "knocking it before they've even tried it".

How about android on wp 7 phone? I like to see if this is possible. I want the new HTC sourround. Nice new hardware upgrade. I often use my phone as stereo.

[ROM] WinMo/WinPhone 7 on Nexus One

Hey folks,
im just asking if anyone yet tried a port of windows mobile 6.5.xx or Phone 7 onto our Nexus?
Tig
No point in windows 6.5 that is a downgrade but seven might be worth it.

Well also meego , ubuntu, or windows 98 have been kinda ported, its not that i want it 4 daily Use, but because we can!
Phone 7 might be worth a port though...
Answered something like a thousand times.
It's a closed OS, with proprietary sources. If there will be a phone very similar in specs to Nexus, which will be running this OS - there might be a port. If not - then there won't be.
I don't believe anyone with skills to port WinMo 6.5 from HD2 would waste his time doing it.

Yep, I just threw up in my mouth.
There is a ROM of the HTC Mozart in the WP7 thread here, in xda.

Could someone direct me to the meego and Ubuntu thread? That would be fun.

I don't think anyone is interested in this, since nexus owner aren't that many..and I think the majority of nexus owners are kind of android fanboys...
Hope i'm wrong, because i'd really like to convert my Nexus in a WP7...until Gingerbread (or whatever) comes
Currently I'm on rods muiu rom and it is great. I would love to try windows 7 on my nexus though. I'm trying to figure out how to get Ubuntu without a computer on my nexus

I think that could be interesting to run WP7 into a Nexus to play a little.
But take a look at this:

If I could try this....
I know this is off-topic but, someone here knows something about Gingerbread?
Wow the new htc phones are using the same processor as our nexus ones, it seems the hardware in all the phones are generally the same as the nexus one (apart from that extra internal storage). I wonder if porting would be possible
I think that it is possible to take WP7 on a Nexus and I really hope that!
Howewer is not a mystery that the Android Community don't like Windows and Microsoft philosophy...
I like the fact that WP7 is very polished compared to android. Hope it gets ported!
Not likely to happen. MS lawyers will have a c and d on the developer, any involved websites, etc in about two seconds. Think apple stype policing of what is entirely closed source and you can bet your ass heavily defended by flocks of attorney who are paid out of one of the biggest war chests in corporate history. The way is going to be to get a windows phone with an android brother and dual boot. That will likely happen.
Android can be polished you just have to theme it a bit. At first it seems very cruel and industrial to me.

I'd love to see WP7 work on my Nexus One. If it doesn't get ported and it does work on the HD2 I'm probably buying an HD2. Then I can use Android and WP7.

HD7 and Android - Use this thread for your questions about and stay On Topic!

Would it be possible to have Android on this phone since its basically the same phone as the hd2
I assume you mean as a duel boot? As i see a lot of people asking to put android on it yet they could just buy the htc desire hd an almost identical phone that is designed to work with android. tbh i would love to see some sort of emulator for a couple of the apps but i am so so glad to be rid of android i loved it but it felt like an early 90's computer all basic with no flair.
I think it would be possible but it will be glitchy and a long time off my advise would be if you want android to buy an android device they have a lot to choose from.

its more advanced then the HD2 and has less touch buttons
however its a bit of a silly question IMHO. If you want android get the Desire HD.
Why put a round peg in a square hole ?
I actually think it's a great question.
Why would people want it? because it gives you CHOICE!
It would be great if you could dual boot with Android and WM7 so you get the best of both worlds: taking advantage of Android whilst also using WM7 while it matures. I'd absolutely love to have a device with android and WM7.
Wish I was a developer, I'd work on that project straight away! I'd pay to have a dual-booting HD7 (or desire HD!) !
Bring it on dudes!
Wow please close this thread since there are so many options available for android these days and if anyone needs a android phone they should buy an android phone
I'm not sure I agree with the last poster. T-mobile has no android alternative to the HD7 that I am aware of.

really? for tmous or t-mobile europe? Cause there is the g2 and mytouch4g that just came out android...
To the OP, considering how the hd2 android is booted from the sd card and technically, there is no sd card on the wp7 (once it's inserted it becomes program memory), I don't think this is happening anytime in the future. Gotta agree, that dual booting for computers can be important to some people, but for phones, I just don't see it happening with the newer os's.
I'm a layman with no technical knowledge, just interested, so my comment was more on a visceral level than technical. To clarify, what I meant to say was that '...there is no android alternative ...... I am aware of'...' regarding the large screen format of the HD7. I bought a G2 but returned it because it was bulky, and I decided that I did not need the slide out keyboard. I really liked my first foray into the andriod world during my two weeks using the G2, and was hoping that I would be able to use the HD7 with android as well.
PS. I'm in Florida.

I agree. I don't get it. WinPho7 is amazing. If you want andriod, dont get a brand new phone that just came out with a new windows version. Sure andriod has its perks, but so does Windows. I've had Apple, Andriod and Windows, and I just dont get the point of changing something off the bat. Altho He is probably thinking that the HD7 is like the HD2, with WinPho6.5, which I personally did not like. But it did have its perks too, like multitasking. I don't think many realize how long and how much work it took to bring Andriod to the HD2. I'm not a developer myself, but I can only imagine!
hd7
Okay I find out there is a phone out that's come close to the hd7.. its called HTC desire HD.. its looks just like the hd7 but the only thing defferent is the cam. Which is a 8mp instead of 5mp and its a android phone.. its not windows..
Just get a desire HD if you want an android powered 4.3 inch screen

If you want an android phone.. Why are you buying a hd7??
The answer is maybe. If you want Android, get an Android phone. There is a high likelihood that someone will at least attempt to port Android to the HD7. Whether or not it will be anytime soon, if it will be stable/usable, or if it will actually happen at all remains to be seen. My advice is not to buy a phone on the hopes that Android will be ported to it.

WP7 on the N1???

Did someone try porting the WP7 to the N1??
Not possible.
More importantly... WHY?
That'd be like taking the motor out of a Honda Civic and sticking it in a Lamborghini Gallardo. Fail.

I think it could be a great idea, because, for example, I really want our Nexus One to be like the HTC HD2! Been able to "work" also with other OSes..
Plus, Windows Phone 7 seems to be very snappy and minimal!
Android is obviously better, but I really want to try the Seven
...
There was another thread asking the same question and someone said only its possible to port WP7 to a android phone if there already exists a WP7 which is basically the same device with WP7 on it.
I think the HD7 is pretty much the same device as the HD2?
Hd2 is the greatest HTC device in the market thanx to all the devs to bring out the real potential of the LEO.wish all htc devices was able to do that.i would rather try wp7 on my hd2 rather than my n1.hd2 is fully functional android just like every other native androids and its running better than my n1.

First of all I'm glad to know that my curiosirty has interest with other people as well.
second, the reason for the WHY is of course curiosity, and the fact that the N1 is a capable device and it'll be interesting to see how it would function with other OS.

I with I had the money to carry as much devices as I wanted to.
That's the reason I wanted the N1, and Android for that matter, to be flexible...

That's handy then, as teardowns show the HTC Surround is basically a Nexus One.
HD2 runs Android awfully, compared to N1. I couldn't stand looking at it stuttering all over the place where N1 flies.
The other problem for this port is bootloader and FS compatibility. While it could probably be overcome, it might not be straightforward, just as it's quite hard to install Windows and Linux on the same partition, both using different native FS. On WM phones there is many-years-old way of loading other systems "under" Windows (I'm not really into details, but AFAIK the other system doesn't load from bootloader, but from early stages of WM kernel - which is the reason why WM-loaded OSes run like crap). On Android phones, it doesn't work that way, and there is no universally used way of loading other OSes.
And the biggest problem for all the curious would probably be just that no dev has taken interest in doing it.
if HTC 7 Surround is simular to N1, is it possible to port the whole bootloader and system of surround to N1. and and run Android "on the top" of WP7 just like what HD2 does
this could be a very very interesting project... as there are quite a few developers currently working on a WP7 like launcher for android. and if we could run wp7 it would be a pretty amazing.

that is actually provably false due to the fact the HD2 is TMobile-only. the devs have squeezed every ounce out of it no doubt, but for a phone to be the greatest HTC device it would have to be available across all GSM networks, not just the B-list one

for AT&T 3G?
Edit: Ok, I guess the Telstra HD2 had AT&T 3G bands, so you could import the phone at a premium. i can't find it on Ebay, but the Cell2Get.com has it for a reasonable $831.99. it better be the greatest ever
I would love trying wp7 on my nexus. The OS interests me, not enough though to shell out for an entire new phone. Especially since all the wp7 phones really aren't special hardware wise.

So....
What does it take to port an OS??
do we need a new bootloader? do we need the WP7 source code?
You will never get WP7 source code.
I guess you'd need a complete dump from the Surround to work from.

[Q] I have a question about switching over to Android

My sis has a HD7 and she has asked me if I can switch it over to Android. I am new to flashing from a windows based phone to a Android based rom and I was wondering just how easy this process will be. I am not looking for something that I will have to constantly update, but something to get her from Windows to Android.
I would love to flash Miui on her phone, but I know every week there is something new to flash so that wouldn't do her any good.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can't install android on a phone built for Windows Phone 7... yet. Its certainly possible, in the future, but I don't recall anyone working on Android for these phones.

WP8 on Nexus 7

Anyone here think it can be done? I'm looking to get one, but it would be really nice if WP8 can be installed on it. Even WP7.8 would be nice.
I tried asking this in the Nexus 7 section, but the Android fanboys there just kept pestering me about why I'd want to change to WP. It got annoying after a while. Thought I'd ask here, where there'd be more enthusiasm for the idea.

O_O Windows phone 8?....on a Asus Nexus 7 tablet? WHY? not even microsoft has made one (and for good reason....it wouldnt make a good tablet UI on its own). Id think that if anything....you would want windows 8 on it seeing as how thats got that awful metro UI AND full bown access to the windows OS. Also im gonna say no, windows phone 8 is less open source and less popular than android or iOS so I dont think its attracting the proper amount of developers that it would need to accomplish such a feat (if possible anyway). But what do i know....im just an "android fanboy"

Based on the information at the below wp8 won't be installing on anything it wasn't intended for:
"These new Windows Phone 8 security features also make it obvious as to why Windows Phone 8 will not run on current Windows Phone devices… they lack a chip that has been burned with security keys for the platform, OEM, and device."
