I've been using Tmobile T-Zones for years for my internet. Had it for my Palm Centro, used it on my iphone, and used it for the past 6 months on my Nexus One.
For some reason now, this AM (also for a brief hour or so last week), Tmobile is not letting my T-zones work, telling me I need to upgrade my data plan.
Anyone else having this issue?
This is not a T-mobile contract Nexus, this is the full price unsubsidized one.
I have the $10 plan I got with a dumbphone and that still works for me. Is ur apn set to internet2.voicestream.com?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I was grandfathered in to the $6 T-Zones plan. I think this is the same thing as the $10 plan. Haven't changed the settings or APN but I'll check.
Addendum:
epc.tmobile.com is what I've been using all along. ? why they'd shut that one off and keep the other one going?
Idk that never worked for me. Then again I'm a new customer. epc one always took me to web2go page saying I need to upgrade. Hopefully they don't stop this one.

Crap, changed the apn to internet2 and still having the same issue. Rebooting, seeing if that does anything...
Maybe I'll pop the SIM into my iphone when I get back home to see if I still have the same issue.
Bah! Looks like it's nationwide.

Sux for everyone else though.
That's an additional $19/month. Won't break the bank, but it was nice while it lasted. If it's a permanent block.
At least I may get faster speeds!
hi guys imsoongoing to buy a nexus does the phone work on tmobile uk /?
Yeah I'm in pa too. This is gonna suck. I'm getting 3.5mbps speeds with this already

Question, does it still work on your iPhone ?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Ok, all the forums report it's back and working again. I just tried and it is working. Did not make it home to try it on my iphone.
Apparently did not affect (at least that I could see) those who were on the $10 internet plan (what you have). My T-zones is $5.99, and all the posters I saw were on the same plan.
We'll see if this outage is intermittent or what.

So, I've read that people were able to get 3g speeds on their 10$ internet plan using epc.tmobile.com . I have the web2go/phonefirst plan, internet2.voicestream.com works but it is only edge speed. When I try epc.tmobile.com, it says that I need to upgrade my subscription. Anyone know how to get the epc.tmobile.com to work?
No, that loophole was was filled awhile ago.
I guess it only works with the 5.99 tzones then? I am 100% sure on that...
im using internet2.voicestream.com and i have working MMS and FULL 3G connection with 3G speeds.
What is your download speed using speedtest.net app in kB/s? And also, how did you get your mms to work? I need help on that :\
Im on the $5 tzones plan.. Have been since nexus one launch... Works fie using epc.tmobile.com, im getting 2-3mbps downloads in most places. Also im not sure if they monitor bandwidth but use pandora A LOT and also tether
i am having issues with mms though. but i think it might be a problem with my rom cause it worked fine with vanilla 2.1

its not really screwing them over... fact of the matter is when the plans like tzones were offered, those were the internet plans of the time so anyone who has them has just had them grandfathered through with contract extensions and such... i payed for unlimited data then and i am paying for it now...

Paying less money for unlimited data is one of the many perks of being loyal to a company for as long as those grandfathered customers have, without giving in to the temptation of other carriers with more features and more capable phones. Besides, contract free, the data plan on T-Mobile breaks down to $10 for smartphones anyway.
YOU'RE stealing!
T-Zones works for me.
Tmobile knows I have a unlocked Nexus and they know my plan.
Everything works.

Im pretty sure the Blackberry data plan is independent of every other data plan. I believe the blackberry service itself is provided by RIM in conjunction with your ISP (your ISP provides the pipes to the Blackberry servers, thats why sites often think you are in canada)
This was at least true when i was using a BB in Australia, and i cant imagine its different anywhere else.
So when she got her BB, she probably got put on a BB data plan, and you need to get T-mobile know you need a normal Data plan.
I have never been on a BB plan, it's a regular plan that used to work.
I woke up one day to no data, contacted T-Mobile and turns out they put Android phones on different data plan. They did the switch at no charge. I suggest contacting them to update the plan info. (not that I think it should make a difference but they seem to think it does).
HTH,
marka
Have you considered trying to contact T-mobile?
Just before lunch today I lost all data, could make calls and text. I called straight talk. I got the normal run around. I asked if there was any outages in Alabama. Was told no. I called my local ATT store and they said they have no reports. So I looked up straight talks apn again just to make sure something didn't go crazy. There is a NEW APN. I put it in and I have data working again.

I just had the same experience. My AT&T Straight Talk Nexus 4 data stopped working yesterday, but my wife's phone, also on AT&T Straight Talk, continued working without a hitch. My renewal day was yesterday, too, but my wife has a different renewal date. My data stopped working at around the same time I got the email from them indicating my auto-charge was successful.
I called Straight Talk and was given the runaround that my data was disabled because I was violating their terms and conditions. I told them I categorically was not violating them, which is true - I use less than 1GB of data each month, and don't even watch Youtube on my phone - then demanded to be transfered to a supervisor. I was connected to a supervisor who was more helpful and gave me the new APN information, and I was soon back up and running.
The good news is that performance during my morning commute seem much better with the new APN. Perhaps AT&T started kicking Straight Talk customers off of att.mvno at the end of their monthly cycle and Straight Talk is scrambling to get them on their own APN? I have no problem with it if that's the case and the APN performance is OK, but it sure would have been nice to know in advance...

my end date was yesterday too... on two phones.. got off the phone today with ST with a new APN.. well SMS/Phone/Data are working, but no MMS i can send from the phone but its not reciving them. anyone checked this?
This may very well be the case. My wifes service ends about the middle of the month. Looks like they could have said something when i was on the phone with them for 30mins, or an email!!!
My mms is working
i can send MMS to my email [email protected] but cant recive them. i get a notifcation for Message Not Downloaded! any ideas
I'm trying not to panic, but it may be that Straight Talk is going to go downhill from here :^(
AT&T doesn't want to subsidize it's services anymore, I don't want a T-Mobile sim!
My renewal date was yesterday and my data went totally offline. I googled it and found the "new" apn settings on the ST website. I updated and everything works except MMS, I can send but not receive.
I spent hours going to dozens of websites, entered new apn settings at least 25-30 times to no avail, and spent an hour on the phone with ST support (they didn't help at all).
Hopefully this is just a transition that needs some time to resolve a few bugs. Clearly the MMS server/proxy is having forwarding problems.
Oh we'll, I've pinned this thread and plan on checking it often to see if there are any developments.
Same here... No warning, just lost data yesterday - coincidentally the same day as my subscription renewal. After fighting with settings all day, noticed new APN info on ST site. Entered and now working perfectly. WTF?
Not sure if this should go here or not.. But I've been watching the One since it was announced.
And I'm currently on the old $30/month plan from Tmo with an HTC Amaze..
Unfortunately I to get the one from Tmo the require $379 down which is a lot of money at once and will also up my bill to $70
But I also have the option to get one someones Sprint plan and get a One for $99...
But just looking thought the forum, its looking like the GSM One is getting better Dev support
Along with Google ports.
An another possible problem that comes to mind... is CDMA..
I was on sprint awhile ago and Had a HTC Hero and the battery drain was HORRIBLE compared to the my Magic. Not sure if that is still an issue with the new LTE stuff...
But yeah, my real question is, should I go for the Sprint One or hold out a bit and get the Tmo One?

To my knowledge, you're not going to have a significant battery difference between CDMA and GSM. Updates will almost always be slower for us in the Sprint world because GSM variants tend to be more common worldwide, but the devs here work plenty hard. I'd check the forum though yourself to see if there're any ROMs you actually like the look of instead of taking someone else's word on how "good" dev is.
Price-wise, you might be better off going prepaid on T-Mobile, but then you'd need an unlocked GSM One, and that's dicey stuff.
Tmo is the way to go imho. I thought about getting the one when I got my nexus....it's about the only phone I'd consider other than my nexus. I chose the nexus because of the bang for your buck factor and dev support. I'm happy with my choice but I still love the one! Really a beautiful phone, with the guts to match....good luck

Yeah, go Tmo. Once you go CDMA, you shall never escape...
T mobile if you can afford it.
You can fully convert it to GPe or dev unlocked edition. It gets more support.
I read somewhere that only Sprint has working Google Wallet, though.
Coverage wise, it depends. Tmo is fantastic here (at least, the HSPA was), but Sprint doesn't even cover some of the places it says has "Good/better 3g".
As someone above said, you should check out the prepaid plans. It might be cheaper/better in the long run if you buy unlocked and just put in a prepaid card. Even if you will go over the data/minutes, the overages may still be cheaper than a contract.
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-plans Check out the $30 one at the bottom. Only 100 mins, but 5GB data.

Tmo base everything off of your credit check when they run it. For example, my cousin was told he he had to put down $500 and I was told $100.
However I chooses to come back to Sprint because I think they have good things coming ahead and plus Tmo service here where I live is little to nonexistent

I'm on the $30 plan right now. But to finance a phone for me its 3xx down and sixty something a month.
And those 100 minutes burn up FAST.
In the long run sprint is actually going to be cheaper because I'm getting on an existing plan for 20-30 a month for unlimited everything.
But I'm still not sure I want to go CDMA...
I live in Columbus so coverage for both sprint and tmo is great..

So it looks like pretty much every other prepaid carrier has its own thread so I thought I'd start one for the Straight Talk folks. I picked up my N5 a little over a week ago and switched both my wife and I (also has an N5) from Sprint. We'd been with them for a little over 9 years but in their LTE migration here in Portland their coverage went from decent to terrible. Thus far I'm very happy with the AT&T service, speed is good, cost is AWESOME, and I can tether without root so I retain work email functionality. I'm very pleased with the decision to dump Sprint and couldn't be happier with the N5!
With my ATT phone I could not tether unless I went to the high Gb plan. The unlocked Nexus, as you found, lets you do it out of the box.

I did the same. Jumped ship from Sprint and went to Straight Talk, mainly because of the savings and Sprints bogus 3G & WiMax 4G. Tried t-mobiles $30 plan but the cell reception in my area was worse than what i had with Sprint. I was skeptical about going back to At&t as I had them before i had Sprint and was getting charged way more than i should have been paying for one line. I went with Straight Talk At&t and i have LTE coverage, a very reasonable phone bill, and no worries about extra charges. Definitely recommend to anyone whos looking for a reasonable bill and doesnt have good t-mobile coverage.
Me and two of my friends got nexus 5s and att st Sims and two of us networks say home. The other says at&t -_- good service none the less.

Anyone able to get the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot to work? I have seen threads where the N5 and T-Mobile users has gotten it to work but none for the ST ATT users.
I dropped Sprint with another six months left on my contract, so it will cost me about $120 in fees, but it's worth it. I'll save almost $ 40 a month, so after just three months the ETF would have been paid off, and I really start saving.
I'm very happy with Straight Talk AT&T. I have superior data speeds, and my calls are clear with no drops.
My mobile hotspot works, too.
I've used a few different pre paid plans the last few years but none of them have been this good. At first I went for the cheapest plan but with low minutes thinking I would use voip or something but I would get extra charges.
Only thing I've worried about with this plan is data limits, but they cleared that up with an actual limit now. I don't really download that much anyways and have a lot of Wi-Fi access.

Absolutely. I downloaded FoxFI but it looks like it's unnecessary.
I'm quite happy with att st for the most part (Salem Oregon). Tmobile data speeds are 2 to 3x faster, but limited service in doors of course.
The one problem I've had with strait talk that I've seen others confirm is the push delay. After an unknown amount of time of inactivity (usually a few minutes) the Google services port on st closes and you won't get new emails or hangouts ect until you refresh or the Google heart beat refreshes (up to 28 minutes).
Fortunately there's an app that lets you manually change the Google push ping to keep it alive. So I'm usually not more than 2 minutes behind on hangouts.

One thing hardly anyone is mentioning is that Straight Talk cripples video streaming on 4G and LTE. Watching YouTube videos is pretty useless unless you switch to 3G which is still pretty crappy. Another thing is that MMS can be hit or miss on Straight Talk. Sometimes its fine and other times it won't work.

I did my first month on the Nexus 5 with Straight talk, really have no complaints at all. AT&T's coverage is not anywhere near as good as Verizon, but it's damn well better than Sprint or T Mobile. I left straight talk for h2o Wireless as there's very little LTE out here with AT&T anyways. The data cap was just too small on straight talk.
H20 wireless $60 a month fit unlimited everything, no throttling.

I have read that H2O throttles that $60 plan after 3GB.
I am glad someone started an att straight talk thread. Can anyone with a VPN tell me if it works with att straight talk? I use a pretty common VPN provider which works no problem on WIFI but has very frequent dis-connects while on mobile. It is pretty much unusable while on mobile.
Yeah so I've heard they throttle.
The way I figure it. Att is best in my area.
45$ a month for unlim text. Minutes. And 2.5gb data. Is still cheaper then if I wanted to go sign a contract with att for service. I'd have capped minutes. Maybe unlimited text. And 2gb data. Not even unlimited with slow speeds...
So I get an extra 500mb. Free mins. And such. And its cheaper and no contract..
And I haven't found anything better yet.
