Icon Changer? - Fascinate Themes and Apps

Is there a suitable icon changer out that works with the Galaxy S phones yet?
I've tried bettercut 3.0 and anyshortcut 0.3 but neither work yet.
Any suggestions?
I've tried to adb pull the apk for an app, redo the icon, save and push it back, but it uninstalls the app and won't reinstall (assuming this is a signing error).

When you first launch the app? Or when you do something else?
Try to reboot?
Try to uninstall/reinstall?

launcherpro gives you the ability to do it natively in the homescreen if you dont mind loosing touchwiz
or there is an app called folderorganizer which worked well for me in the past

I figured it out. Using the app itself didn't work, but if you long press on the home screen and add new shortcut, select bettercut, it works.

i use desktop visuliser to customise icons. it works nicely on the home screen, plus you can choose which size you'd like them to be.

Try NinjaMorph. You can use that to change all the icon's for the apps that are installed on the phone to the /system/app directory. It's pretty easy to change all those icons using that app.
But for any user installed apps that end up installed to /data/app you'll have to do a little more work.. (that is if you want the icons to be changed in the app drawer as well, if you don't then you can just use one of those other apps people have already mentioned)
Basically you'll have to copy the .apk to your computer. Edit the apk with the new icon you want, delete the current signature, resign it, copy it back to your sdcard, uninstall the app, then re-install it with your newly edited akp. Sounds like a lot but it's not to bad if you use the right tools.
7zip works great to open the akps and edit the files inside them. I also found a nice little tool someone had created that lets you just drag and drop apks into it and press a button to resign the package. I'm not at my home computer so I don't remember the name off hand but you should be able to find it from a simple google search.
Hope that helps.

[Q] What's the best method for customizing the lock screen?

I tried widget locker and liked the way it looked, but you have to manually start the app every time you turn the phone on. I don't really care about all of the slide mods, but I would like to change the clock, font, etc. Is there a setting in Cyanogen that I'm missing? Any other app suggestions?
Has anyone ever tried this method for changing the clock font?
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/e1q7j/i_got_rid_of_that_stupid_lockscreen_clock_font/
Basically requires using Terminal to paste a new font over the existing font. I've never used Terminal and I don't have any experience in Linux. The program that someone mentions there (Type Fresh) has lots of bad comments on Appbrain about causing crashes and bootloops, so I think I'll stay away from that one.
are you looking to modify your system lockscreen or trying to find a replacement app (widgetlocker)?
for your widget locker problem, select start at boot and disable the 5 sec. rule.

If you don't want to use terminal, I'm pretty sure you can use ninjamorph which might be a little easier. As for widgetlocker, I'd say just do what kevina said. I've been using for the past week or so and it's been smooth and quick for me.
You could use tasker to autostart widget locker.

Ninjamorph doesn't work for this, nor did root explorer. I tried type fresh multiple times and it didn't work. After trying everything except using the terminal, I just changed the fonts in the rom's zip and reflashed it.
Thanks for the tips guys.. I reinstalled Widget Locker and I'm playing around with it again. I don't like how it takes over the Home button, but other than that it seems to be working pretty well.
Newest cm6.1 rc2 nightly has gestures and added support for phone and sms sliders on the lock screen. I can quickly access facebook, camera, sms, and phone without first unlocking the phone - I love it!
Which nightly are you on and does it seem pretty stable? I do have that same functionality you are talking about with Widget Locker... but if I can have it through the OS, I'll just use that.
I just got Widget Locker the other day. I love it!

Also make sure widgetlocker is installed on your phone and not the sd.

[Q] Launcher Pro Expiring

Looking for some guidance here, my wifes Captivate is running Launcher Pro (free version), and about a week ago, she received this message as one of those little popup messages, saying "This version of launcher pro is about to expire, please go to launcherpro.com to update"....
I checked the Market for an update, and according to it, there was no update. We saw this message about every other day, until this morning, she goes to use her phone, and basically launcher pro has completely crashed out, and keeps taking her to the web browser trying to open to the launcher pro website.
She has no way to get to her home screen, or any other part of the phone. All the physical buttons on the bottom redirect her to the browser trying to load launcherpro.com, I assume to get this "Update".
I've never heard of this, I run launcher pro too, which no problems. Any thoughts? How can I back her out of using launcher pro as her home app, with out being able to access the main android setting panel?
Can this be done from recovery mode?
Is her phone rooted?
Edit: And is USB debugging enabled?
Yes, it is rooted. I think her most recent launcher pro update (from market) failed to download, or install correctly, and now it's corrupt.
She only has access to the web browser. She can access other websites, but launcherpro.com will not load.
I had her remove battery, sim card, and then reboot phone, no dice.
Edit: I think USB debugging is enabled, but I'm not sure.... I'm at work, she's at home....I'm basically trying to get my plan together, so when I get home tonight, I can tackle this.
I also had her type in the direct URL for the most recent launcherpro update (apk file) which she was able to download, but of course she can't install it....
If she can sideload apps, You might be able to use the browser to download a different launcher (touchwiz, adw ..etc) then uninstall launcherpro and reinstall if you wanted... just use the browser to sign in to xda and download whichever u wanted....if browser wont let you download an apk then you could use adb, download your launcher then adb push it to /system/app/ and reboot (you might have to adb shell to mount /system RW) once it boots u might have to hit the home key for it to pop up and ask what launcher to use..

I got the same message like 2 days back. I went to market and updated my version. It didn't give that message again.
ya, that was the first thing I did, but according to the market, her version was up to date, or at least there were no updates for her to install....
I figured there would be a way for me to sideload something, but I've never done anything like that....rooting via an update.zip file, was easy....
Edit: the other thought I had was, if she gets a market app update notification in the notifications bar, we would probably be able to get to the market that way, and uninstall launcher pro, or install another home app (adw). So I'm hoping an update gets pushed today.

Try ADW. This is one home replacement simple and more or less on lines of launcher pro, well, atleast personally by me.
She needs to get home launcher or something so that she can switch her launcher.
I still use Touchwiz mainly, but I have Launcher Pro Plus, ADW, Live Home, and Netlife Home on my phone as well.
Thanks, the problem of course is that we cannot access any part of the phone except the browser...so once I can figure out how to get to the market, or into the android settings, I will be able to disable LauncherPro.
If anyone has a suggestion of how to accomplish that, it will be most appreciated.

She can't even access the market? If she can get an app called home switcher. That would let her choose which launcher to use. If not you would have to either email the creator or reset the phone if everything she touches makes the phone go to pp website. I don't know how anything she does makes it go to their website to upgrade.
This is my Captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.

If debugging is activated you could try to adb push a new launcher apk to /data/app/
Go to appbrain.com and you should be able to hook into the Market from there.
You can also use the Android Sideload Wonder Machine from Androidcentral to sideload another launcher or HomeSwitcher. Link
Just connect your phone with USB debugging on, but not connected as a usb mass storage device, select the apk, and click install.
If you are comfortable with ADB then follow the instructions in the link below.

1. Download any launcher, say adw onto ur computer.
2. Use adb commands to push it to /system/app
3. Press the home button -- this will prompt u to pick one home app, pick the new one, and presto... u have full access to ur phone

MikeyMike has the easiest solution. If on the phone, you can only access the browser. Go to www.appbrain.com, and download another launcher from there(Zeam, ADW,Launcher2) install it and reboot, you should be able to then select which browser to use.
download the .apk from your computer and install using droidexplorer...problem solved
I had the same thing happen to me. The launcherpro website is also down. This seems well thought out. How do you make a program liked by almost everyone and turn it into something I'm swearing at for the last three hours because I need to use my phone as a #(*@^@% phone.
I don't have mine rooted. Stupid thing is I was planning to do it this weekend.
Any of the ideas above work for a non-rooted phone? Can I still sideload something else somehow?
Thanks.

[Q] Any way to change Task Killer widget icon?

With the atk app there is a widget you can place on the home screen that when pressed, instantly kills the active apps. The problem is, its kind of small and looks out of place with my theme, but I cant seem to find a way to change it. I'd like to be able to use a custom icon with desktop visualizer or something to be able to activate the widget's functions, but I can't figure it out.
ps, I don't want this to turn into a debate about whether or not to use a task killer, try to stay on topic.

You really don't need an app..... joking.
I've REALLY been wanting to know this as well. Likewise, it does not fit my theme or icons at all. It's the only out of place icon throughout all my homescreens.
I am also trying to do this, so I should probably add to the list of people and hopefully someone has a solution.
I'm using ADW and tried the custom shortcut but I can't find the activity that carries out what the widget does.
Any of the task manager activities just bring me into the app, rather than a direct autokill.
Also, I don't know if there is an android system activity for it, because I can't seem to find that either.
That's all I can contribute from my efforts anyway..
you'd have to do an adb decomile or winrar whatever then change the icon for the widget and resign the file. there are already versions floating around where people have done this already do some looking around...
Really? I've searched and came up with nothing, just back to here really, or other people asking the same thing..
If you had a link then that'd be handy, if not then thanks for the hint on a starting point..
I can change the icon for any application!

Yes,man!I already did different icons for widget actions!
I've done this before. All you need to do is rename the .apk to .zip and open it in your PC. Navigate to the icon image, replace with yours, rename the zip to apk push it to /system/app, fix permissions... dunsky.

since you can't put a widget in a dock bar, is there way to assign the same widget function to a desktop shortcut?

[Q] [MIUI] [SLIDESCREEN] One app icon will not change

Icon will not change
Okay, this is a new problem I've never experienced before.
Have my icons all packed, zipped up,.mtz etc. Apply through theme manager. However, I have one application (Launcher SlidescreenPro) that will not change.
I've double checked the app name, double checked and triple checked the naming...
Now...here's the weird part. In EVERY app list and application that lists your installed apps, the new icon is there, just like it's supposed to be. App manager, titanium backup, all show the new icon for the app....but NOT on the home screen. (and yes, I rebooted )
I'm wondering if there is another "hidden" name for the app's home screen shortcut, since it was also meant to be a home launcher replacement. Can't find anything specific to that app, and it is no longer supported, so the developers are unavailable.
I'm puzzled..What am I missing? I'm sure there is an easy answer...
Thanks
That one i have too. It's weird and im looking for an answer, too

Using Root Explorer navigate to /data/system/customized_icons_1 and check what is the file name for the icon that is shown for your slidescreen. It is actual package name of the used app. Hope that it helps.

Try making a folder (zip) for slidescreen, with the "icon.png" or "ic_launcher_whatever.png" inside of it, in the theme. Also it may have an activity name attached to the end of the package name, for instance Clock is com.android.deskclock as well as com.android.deskclock.DeskClock

since the new icon appears everywhere (an i mean everywhere, like titanuium, root explorer, app management) except for the launcher i think the process name should be good
i have this problem with "handsfree" ("com.grichenko.android.handsfree") and "word search" ("com.virtuesoft.wordsearch")
i started them and looked in the app manager to find out if they have a different process running, but nope, the main process is running, but it just won't change on home screen

Thanks...I do know that the actual package name is the same for the icon, that's what I was saying. PLUS...it has changed throughout the system, just not on the home screens. Even when I look up running processes...the package name is the same, and the app's icon in the running processes list is correct.
However, I didn't know about that folder, so that will come in handy in the future.

Thanks for the suggestion...and that still might be the case, but nothing comes up when zipping up the app, or any folder within it. Just the same package name I already have for it. <sigh> Since it was meant to be a launcher replacement as well, I might blindly try a few activity names...see what happens. although I don't think so....as there doesn't seem to be a different process running.
As far as rebooting...I've never had trouble with theme manager...change out my screen once a day (at least) and it always works for me. This has me completely baffled. (PS...did reboot a couple of times for something else...no such luck)

i managed to find the processes for my missing apps, i had to decompile files and look into androidmanifest.xml
you will find the first android process is usually the launcher process. look for lines starting with "activity". if you read these lines you'll find a portion "android:name" and that's where the process name is. if the first one is not good, you might find others inside, too

I finnally did this, but what sucks is that in landscape mode the keyboard doesn't fit the screen properly. But in portrait mode the keyboard works amazingly. Guess I will fiddle with some other keyboards till I find one that works if there are any. They really did not want keyboards to work.
Bump.
So ive noticed that keyboards do work. in both portrait and landscape, but the landscape only works correctly with the lock screen password. This is due to the home key bar, it covers over part of it. Anyone have a way around this or a fix? possibly settings change to the keyboard apps. Not sure how to work this.

got the same prob with the crashing app. which *.so file is it I need to move for using swiftkey?
You need to install SwiftKey normally. Use root explorer go to data/app. I then find SwiftKey and move it to system/app. I then go to data/data find the com.touchtypeSwiftKey go to this folder. Then /lib and right click move the file in lib folder. I move it to system/lib. Restart device then it should work. But be careful

How do you do it to make it work perfectly with the lock screen password I tried but it did not seem to work maybe you can show me a way before some expert here can make a tool to hide the home key bar.
