[Q] wi-fi stopped after 2.2 upgrade - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone was connecting perfectly to my home wifi (1.5 years old router) till it had 2.1.
Here is something I find very peculiar:
1. I upgraded my phone to 2.2.
2. I connected my phone to my home wifi and downloaded some stuff from market.
3. Now its like 24-48 hours since I upgraded to 2.2, and my wifi is stuck at something like "Obtaining IP address". I can still connect to my home wifi from my laptops as well as other phones.
I read issues like 2.2 upgrade killing wifi, but then I was able to connect to download stuff like titanium backup.
Please advise. This inability to wifi is messing up big time.

You can sometimes get your data connections to reset by putting your phone into flight mode then return it back to normal.
I had a similar issue when I was on eclair 2.1. I kept getting the obtaining address loop. And even though I was able to connect other devices to my router it was actually my router - it was trying to assign multiple devices the same ip. Long story short I ended replacing my router with a new one and all has been good, even after I flashed cog 2.2.
now we may not have the same issue - just know that it may very well be your router even if it is making a connection with other devices. Try testing your phone with other routers to try and make sure it isn't your router.

My Captivate was doing this as well. I found a fix for it as well. The problem seems to stem from the android_id in the settings.db.
Things you will need to fix this:
1. Odin 1 Click
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
2. One Click Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739304
2. a Root file browser (Root Explorer)
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3. SQlite Editor or equivalent on your computer
4. Device ID
Steps to fix the issue:
1. Flash to stock.
2. Root your device.
3. Download Device ID and use it to find out what your stock Device ID is. Write it down or send it to yourself in an e-mail.
4. Flash back the Froyo Rom of your choice.
5. Download Root Explorer and SQlite Editor from the market. You probably will have to have the Market Fix to find SQlite.
6. With Root Explorer browse to /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings/settings.db
7. Copy the settings.db file to your SD Card.
8. Open settings.db with SQlite, tap secure, look under the 'name' column for 'android_id', change the 'value' column to your Device ID you wrote down earlier, exit the file.
9. Copy and replace the original settings.db file in /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.settings.
10. Reboot.
Done.

Hi Wolf, I tried this way. But the android I got and the android id present in the settings.db file are both the same. Do you still want me overwrite it?

Make sure you get your device ID from your 2.1 Eclair build. You will have to flash back to stock 2.1 to get this correctly. Copy it down and then flash back to froyo and make the change.

Before you flash back to 2.1 do a Titanium Backup. Then flash 2.1 get the Device ID, flash 2.2 and restore your backup. All your settings should restore if you restore all user apps and system data.

Thanks wolf. Let me try this and get back.
EDIT:
15:23 EST: Installed 2.2 after taking android id from 2.1. wifi working fine right after install
15:30 EST: Rooted the device. wifi working fine at this point.
15:34 EST: Installed busy box. wifi still working fine.
15:39 EST: Enabled app sideloading. wifi still working fine.
15:47 EST: Renamed all unneeded apps (in the attachment) to backup extension. wifi still working fine. (renamed apps in the attachment, with the commands too so next time anyone wants can just copy paste these.)
16:08 EST: Rebooted phone after complete restore using titanium backup. wifi still working, surprisingly.
Will post back here if my wifi stops working for some reason.
I did not need to edit the android device id. Surprisingly, it worked. Dunno what I did last time. As far as I can recall, I followed the same steps as I did today.

Ok. Today, out of the blue, my phone is stuck at "obtaining IP address". I restarted the phone n it still will not connect. This is driving me nuts. It was connecting all these days since the date i mentioned in my last post above in this thread.
I'm clueless. Anyone help me pls.
Note, like before, it is connecting to some unprotected wifi nearby. My home network is a secured network.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

I updated the android id with the one I copied from 2.1. Still stuck at "obtaining IP address".

I have the same problem as the OP, and havent tried the fix I'm writing more for refference. I was wondering if your phone is connected to the WIFI anyway? mine is. in settings it is still saying 'obtaining ip address' and I have no wifi symbol in taskbar but its connected and can find the other comps on my network.

[Q] Kies usage problems (The device is in use)

Hi,
I've installed the lates Kies (1.5.3.10093_80) and have three problems:
1) When i try to update Kies to 81 release it doesn't want to find any updates. I tried two ways: from Kies application and manually start MCS.Thunder.Update.exe. From Kies it never finds any updates and MCS.Thunder.Update.exe crashes after some time before it find anything to update
2) Phone connects to the PC fine and i can see it in Kies, but i can't do anything, browse contacts or calendar. When i try to save contacts on PC i receive "The device is in use. Stop using the device then try again". I tried to find any application on PC which can use it without any success.
3) On home notebook Kies finds phone OK but at work it is endlessly says: Connecting to the phone. I've already tried to change COM port number, settings for USB connection ... nothing helps.
Any ideas?
PS All device drivers seems to be installed OK
I have exactly the same problem as you mentioned under point 2. Same holds for the agenda by the way.
I just updated to 93-81 (automatically via KIES)
Does anyone have a solution?
Me too having this problem...
Same issues for me. I've just discovered Android Manager Wifi which gives all we need to save and restore contacts. Nice to use until Kies issues are resolved.
All of these issues are well known and almost everyone is having them. There was a standalone massive thread about Samsung Kies and its issues, but I can't find it. You need to get used to it - usually im my case the Mass Storage is activated after restarting my phone. As I use tethering rather often, I usually have to try connecting and disconnecting the phone several times until I'm lucky.
When it comes to Kies update itself, that is another disaster - I usually try it on different networks - if it can't find updates at home and I know there is one, I just go and try it at the university wifi. The same with firmware updates, etc.
I undo the oneclick lag fix v 2.1.2 by ryanza and it works like a charm now
thnak you very much nick_goh!
Thats was it. Undo OCLF and Kies starts working as it should.
Lagfix is the problem
Yes, the lagfix is the problem, but who can fix the lag fix or the kies!?
laffix
What if you are experiencing that same "Device is in use" issue but did NOT ever install the lagfix ?
Unless theres something that went on in rooting your phone as that is the only non-factory thing that I ever did!
I already installed several apps to try to find the culprit that might be causing this but no luck. I'm almost considering going back to factory and re-installing all samsung updates from scratch on. ....unless there is another way

Networks detected but will not register

So I had some escapades today, I had my SGS running jellybean, then I tried to change the screen density and bang, bootloop. I panicked and after some odin fiddling managed to get it booting Darky using odin. I was in a room with no signal at the time so I thought nothing of not having any signal, even so I then went ahead and used recovery to reinstall my Jellybean rom since that's a bit nicer than the 2.3 Darky.
Long and the short of it is, I can search for networks in my options and it will find them, but when I tell it to connect to one it says "Can't connect to this network right now. Try again later"
I have tried later and surprise surprise it didn't work. I have tried installing a different radio, clearing the dvalik cache and fixing permissions as well as a few other things. Please can anyone suggest something, this seems to be a very uncommon scenario and it's stressing me out that I can't find any solutions.

same problem
i am having this same problem on all cyanogenmod 7,9,10. i have tried many radio and modem flashes. i can scan and see networks, but i can never connect to them.
have you made any progress?
Problem is EFS folder which tends to do with IMEI.
To fix it you need to copy the backup EFS folder from your SDCARD to the root of your device. (/)
If you don't have a backup you'll have to ODIN back to stock and re-root....etcetera

thx
thank you for the response. I put it back to stock lastnight before bed so i will give this a try.
i have the gti9000m from bell in canada. I updated it through kies to 2.3.3 gingerbread and it all went badly. It would boot up and load to the os be on for a bit then reset. It turned out to be wifi problem, running it on airplane mode stopped it from rebooting. Then if i tried to turn on wifi it would quickly reboot.
So then i tired all the cyanogenmods, which worked it stopped rebooting all the time. however the wifi would connect and work for about a minute then it would drop. doing the
1.turnOn gps
2.turnOn wifi
3. turnOff gps
this would let the wifi work again for about a minute. I tried all the wifi fixer apk, and a bunch of wifi.zip mods, and then ping the router gateway constantly, none solved this problem. Very annoying because i need the wifi working for develpoment of apps. I have spent a great many hours on this problem. lots of people seam to have this problem but no solutions have wokred for me.
So, my questions are....
1. does your wifi work?
2. how the heck do i get mine to work?
back to stock
After going back to stock then upgrading connecting to network operators is fine.
wifi is still broken though

The 3G works fine on pac?
However, you can try to flash the boot.img in fastboot and see.
And, what's your problem with the recovery?

I am having the same problem too. Was previously on trickdroid. Flashed Revolt ROM and my wifi wasnt connecting to my home network. It could detect, prompted for the network password but after that it just wouldnt connect. So i looked deeper in the phone's information and discovered that my phone's IP address was in a different IP address range. It was 10.x.x.x and my home router was 192.x.x.x. My sister's S4 had no wifi problems (unrooted) and hers was 192.x.x.x. So now I'm trying to set my HTC One's IP address to 192.x.x.x. Still trying to figure a way out though. Hopefully it will work. Give it a try!

[Q] Since 4.3 update, No data with custom Roms

Good evening,
Since updating my HTC One Sprint to Android 4.3, none of the custom Roms I flash have a data connection. The Stock ROM works fine rooted but Cyanogenmod 4.3 has no data. Tried fiddling with the network settings but no luck there.
The Data shows ON but the radio is not. No matter what I try, I cannot get data to work.
I tried Carbon Rom 4.3 tonight , that loaded and set up my phone automatically which I found very strange, but it too had no data. It appears to work just fine but just as with CM , there is no data connection. It appears that although DATA is turned on, the radio itself is off.
Has anyone else experienced this affliction? Any idea how to resolve?
To get to this point, I did return to stock to flash the 4.3 update from Sprint, then re-rooted the phone, found I had to change TWRP to the Newer version before I could complete that process.
The latest version of TWRP does not work as well by any stretch and won't let me flash from USB Flash Drive but does to the minimum required save the freeze if you leave it sitting in Recovery too long.
The main trouble is I can't use anything but the Stock Rooted Rom since not of them support data in 4.3. I suppose I could use the 4.3 versions although I am a bit afraid to even try that.
Is this just me, did I miss something in the un-root, re-root process?
Also, still have S-Off
Thanks for your time

Hello, I have tired all of the network modes and nothing seems to work.
Voice and Text work fine, it's just Data that won't connect yet I have a good signal.
I have attached screen shots of the CM Rom, everything seems to be in order, data enabled except it says the Mobil Network State Disconnected. Can't find any way to turn it back on. Tried to cycle airplane mode on and off but no change.
I had no trouble until I installed 4.3 from Sprint. Now only sprint works. I hopefully attached screen prints of the phone. All seems in order but data is not working.
Thanks for taking a look again!

Thank you for your input, I tired the code and could see it was not connected but could not make it change despite trying other settings . Just downloaded the lasted CM nightly, installed clean as new ROM, not over existing version and at least for now, Data including LTE is back. Still not sure of the trouble because it worked the first time I loaded it as well but stopped working in the middle of the day. Very strange indeed.
Could not find the the hidden Menu as the DEV above provided me so I hope what ever it was resolved itself.
Thanks again for your support and advice, it is greatly appreciated!!
I guess I will post here again in a few days so anyone that catches this knows what's up. Wish me LUCK!!!!

Thank you so much for taking the time, although I did not have any luck finding that menu with the voice dialer, not sure what that issue is but wanted to say thanks again here. As I said on other post, the latest nightly from CM installed as brand new ROM fixed it for now. It worked for about a half a day the first time and suddenly stopped working for now apparent reason. I have same issue with the voice search for APNs.
Since 4.3 update, No data with custom Roms
Well, to give everyone an update, I had no luck with the suggestions , Voice Dialer did not recognize prompts. I did return to the Stock Rooted Rom and updated my PLR, when I returned to Cyanogenmod Rom it seemed to resolve the issue of working for a short while and then loosing data. I next Tried the AOPK Rom and that worked like a charm, no issues at all. I really like this Rom for HTC One, so I will most likely stick with this for a while.
I did try to install the 4.3 Version of Carbon Rom but don't you know, no data. No matter what I try, I show Data disconnected. I am just totally confused by this since some work and some don't. The AOPK rom has been working for a couple of days now so I am assuming it will continue.
Thanks again for everyone's input, I am willing to try other things but not going to worry about it since I like the AOPK rom just fine. Hopefully I don't get board with it.
Have a great weekend!!!!!!!!

Thanks for posting on my issue, I never found a solution but did fine after I updated my PLR on the HTC one,. it seems to have helped some although I really can't be sure. AOPK worked right away after that so might want to give that a try if available for your phone! Good luck mate!!

Good day/evening!
Thank you very much for checking.
You know, I never felt like I found a solution except that the Rom was not quite right for my phone . I had similar experiences some new 4.3 ROMS and then others were fine.
In the end, all of the Roms now work after a release or two from the initial 4.3 versions. Right now, I am using Android Revolution 3.62.401.1 just updated for Sprint recently and for now. it seems to have all of the mods I am looking for.
I may never know exactly what caused the data drops outs but it does seem to be related to initial releases since the affliction has disappeared on all Roms now.
Hey, I really do appropriate you checking in!..

Same Issue
Gents,
Same issue for me. I'm not able to flash any custom ROM that are AOSP based. If I flash Android Rev. HD then LTE\Data connection works just fine, AOKP, CM, Carbon.....No Data Connections at all. Funny thing is that at one time, it was working just fine, then poof! Just stopped. I've tried the above steps, except for the PLR trick, to no avail. If I may, what is PLR and how does one go about updating it please? =) Maybe this will work for me. Google wasn't very helpful with this search term...
Thanks!
Full Voice bars - No Data
Took me a few days to figure this out but on Carbon Rom you have to change the APN to Sprint LTE Internet.. Settings-Mobile Network- Access point names. (works in New York City)

LineageOS 20.0 Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus
Alexa Show Mode availableSince this is actually a GSI, it should boot on (m)any device(s), but it is inherenting tablet configs, and may look weird on phones.
Code:
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
Keep in mind that some LineageOS features have not been completed yet this is not a device bug and please do not report those
Also do not post bug reports for known issues or bug reports without proper Logcat!
How to install (on lenovo x606f(a)):When you are installing this for the first time, I suggest to try "userdebug" version first, as it has adb enabled by default. Once you have ensured, your device is booting fine with the debug version, feel free to switch to user version (please do a wipe when switching between userdebug and user build).
If you are looking for a rom with rooting capabilities, you need to stay with userdebug, or use any other method to root the user version.
only needed once:
flash latest stock android 10 (at time of writing, this is 'TB-X606XA_USR_S300564_2206300939_V9.56_BMP_ROW', built at 'Thu Jun 30 10:29:58 CST 2022'
allow oem unlocking in developer options
reboot to bootloader and unlock it
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
actually flash the system:
fastboot flash system system.img (replace system.img with the actual name)
wipe data when needed, especially on first install!: fastboot- w
fastboot reboot
In order to use Show Mode, Screensaver needs to be enabled, and one needs to use the option "Launch custom App". Here anything could be selected, but for Show Mode, one needs to "Show Mode".
To let Alexa app show all options, a second language needs to be added to system (this seems to trigger something in the app to switch to "full" options available...no idea yet, what this is, and why).
Changes compared to stock:
Show Mode app does not mess with the screen timout settings
Show Mode can be started from App Drawer
Show Mode is working not only for devices, sold with dock, but also can be started when charging (just choose screensaver when pugged)
Based On Android 13/T

Just installed this on the tablet, Instalation went smooth and used the latest stock rom (that it could update to)
Wifi doesn't seem to be functioning, I'm able to enter the password and enable/disable it but it wont connect to any networks.

which tablet model exactly? i had noticed this behaviour once as well, but only while setupwizard, and while waiting for the gapps to contact the server. once i finished the setup without network, i could just re-add it, and it was working fine.
TB-X606F and used this "14012023-userdebug-system"
I ran into the issue during the setup wizard as well, skipped that part and ran into the issue again when trying to connect through the menu, After entering the wifi pass it will just say "saved" trying to make it connect again doesn't seem to do much.
Since i don't own this version, I need your help debugging/fixing this.
The latestes version before installing was Android 10 based?
Can you try connecting to an open wifi network?
And finally, please run adb logcat > wifif.log, while you try to connect to your wifi. Then upload this file somewhere and paste the link to it here... or attach the file. just don't paste the whole log here
Hope this is enough, I tried ity did connect to the open wifi, also tried connecting it to the other one while it was logging but that doesn't connect (the open wifi doesn't have internet access just grabbed an old router)
2.09 MB file on MEGA
mega.nz
Edit :
It was version TB-X606F_USR_S300660_2206131545_v9.56_BMP_ROW android 10, Checked another tablet that had the same update but is still stock

i'll compare with my own logs later, and see if i can find something.
maybe you can try this rom meanwhile:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/andyyan-gsi/files/lineage-20-td/lineage-20.0-20230115-UNOFFICIAL-arm64_bgN.img.xz/download
which originates from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/gsi-13-lineageos-20-trebledroid-based.4517345/
those builds are very generic, and where the first to boot on my tab at all.
Would be interesting to know, whether wifi is working for you with this.
Just went back to stock using the lenovo tool, seems like the same wifi issues. strangely it doesn't connet to the router i use (phones/laptops etc never had issues) untill i turn off security, Does connect on a ISP modem that uses a password though. i'll try to flash that rom and see what happens.

You mean, you get the same issue on the stock rom?
Yup, just tried on the other untouched tablet too, same issue, just seems to refuse to connect the moment i try with it having a password on it, Tried various settings it just refuses to connect. Meanwhile other devices connect just fine
flashed the rom you linked, been stuck on the boot animation for the last 20 mins.
Edit : Flashed back to stock to see if lower encryuptions work, on lenovo's forums and multiple sites/posts elsewhere there seems to be an issue with lenovo having broken support for certain encryption with some update on multiple simmilar tablets versions and never fixed it
Edit 2 : Works on WPA/WPA2 personal, going any higher seems to cause issues.

well, i have actually no idea, why wifi does not work for you. But the logs confirm, what you also already said...it's broken on stock rom as well.
01-16 06:28:44.264 4368 4368 I wpa_supplicant: wlan0: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=c0:c1:c0:f0:8d:8b reason=3 locally_generated=1
This always shows up, after it tries to connect to your WRT ssid... and wpa_supplicant binary is part of the stock rom vendor partition.
But this should be good enough for now, i guess
"Edit 2 : Works on WPA/WPA2 personal, going any higher seems to cause issues"
Thank you I hope they will fix it at some point
@DerTeufel1980 my device is lenovo tb x606v it has Sim support but the gsi doesn't support the volte services it would be great if you find a fix for that
By the way the gsi is smooth as compared to others.

I was using Andy lineage os gsi and in settings there was phh option in which there was ims implementation which fixed volte. But this gsi doesn't has phh options . And the headphone jack also doesn't detect aux.
Is it possible to build a custom rom for this device?
