I've been messing around theming widgets, and figured I'd see if anyone was interested in getting them when they're done. To give you an idea of what I'm doing, here's a screenshot of the music widget. Obviously in the finished version the text will be a bit more readable on different backgrounds, this was sort of a proof-of-concept. Let me know if any of you are interested, and I'll keep you posted!

Just take the weather widget, open with winrar/winzip. Take out the res folder. Open all the images that say widget bg or widget background something like that in photoshop. Ctrl+A, Ctrl+Del to delete image and make them transparent. Save. Drag res folder back into the apk.
Bah i'll just share mine.

I just bought better cut because I wanted to change my icons. Is there any way to change the icons that are displayed in the drag out tray and not just icons displayed on the home screen?
Edit: How come some android 2.0 icons are pixelated when I try to make them my icons. The market for example, looks great on my computer but as soon as its on the phone it looks awful. Any ideas?
Yes, you have to change the icon png in the apk file. But if you know how to do that you wouldn't need better cut in the first place.
I dont have the SDK yet. Would that also fix the way the icons are displayed? For some reason they are ugly. Even when I downloaded the android2.0 icon pack from the market. Some of the icons in the pack are pixelated.
Here are the icons that are in the icon pack from the market. Notice how some of them look awful. Like market, youtube, gmail, and others.

Bump. Nobody knows why??
Hello!
I am a bit new in the topic of creating icons. I like the hand-drawn style, this is why I made me some icons for my favourite apps. You can see the items in my Picasa Gallery at http://picasaweb.google.com/110196198576872958715/HandDrawnIcons?authkey=Gv1sRgCJrEjpyc7_2_Gg&feat=directlink or you can download them in JPG with 480x480 in my Dropbox at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14389308/Handdrawn.rar .

I wanna create a theme that looks handmade too. I got no idea how to make those items look good on a background. I would like to use crinkled paper or something as a background. I would really appreciate some help or maybe tipps how to do this.
Thx in advance.
I like the idea!
I have seen something like that for Windows:
http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&q=icons#/d286emb
Here's a wrinkled paper texture that could be used as background.
http://digitalricky.deviantart.com/...38545187?q=boost:popular+wrinkled+paper&qo=15
Maybe lighten it up a little bit, or add a grid.
I used the textuare and some Gimp skills and created a pre-version of the style
I made the icons 110x122 to fit the 1x1 Desktop Virtualiser widget cause I would like it to look like the tiles from WM7. Do you know if I could bring in my own handwriting which I got as a font to make some time or date widgets?
If you've got it as a font, then I think yes.
Also a little suggestion, if you make the icons transparent, then it looks like it's actually on the paper.
What I mean is just have the drawing lines visible, without the white background you used to draw on.

have anyone can tell me how could i get these Notification icons < wifi, bluetooth..........above
[Low right corner button]>Widget>Settings>[Wanted widget]
I CAN NOT FIND THEM (
lower right corner button>widget>settings>
then there are all the notification widgets for you to select.
yes i know. but i want to mod them i need apk file
Aren't those the HTC Widgets?
yes widget ~
Some of the images for those widgets are in the skin. If you extract the contents of a skin .apk from your phone (located in system/app look for the skin name ie metal.apk or slate.apk) Then when extracted look in the res/drawable-hdpi, The icons for the widget are in there. I have written a basic guide on how to edit .apk images here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843937 or check out the sticky in this section there is a more in depth guide there.
Hope it helps

These are described as framework mods. This requires you to have a rooted device with s-off (eng bootloader or radio s-off), then can then be flashed. Not as easy as just the skin components. There are some available here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=801928

I made myself an icon pack to use with desktop visuliser
I just thought I would share it with you all
if I think of more to add I will do
there are lots icons to chose from
all you need to do is save them to a folder on your sd card
and point desktop visuliser to those icons
they are 110 x 122 size
I haven't included any bigger ones, because these are for my own personal use so i didnt bother with various sizes
thanks to Taine0 for the idea
and whoever made the various icons I downloaded from google images
anyway
here they are
I hope you enjoy them
p.s yes I have a thing for skulls which is why I kept the skull image on all files in the background
all files zipped HERE
you can also find these images on my dropbox gallery here
requests are welcome, but may take a little time
any suggestions / tips, feel free as long as its constructive
These look awesome. Thanks!
Oh, does this include the skull icon that is in your profile pic? That is a sweet icon

yeah, I left the skull on them all, the foreground image is 95% transparent, so you can still see a little bit of the skull in there
the zip vanished, so i have re-uploaded it, and stored it on dropbox as well just in case

Does anyone know how he got that layout along with those icons?
I'm pretty sure he said most/all of it he photoshopped/embedded into the wallpaper. and he used transparent icons with desktop visualizer (widgets) to click on the text. most likely.

i agree... seems the most plausible way to do it
Yes, it's all embedded in the wallpaper. I remember this layout from the screenshot thread here. The user even posted his modded wallpapers for download at some point, if I remember correctly.
Edit: I found his posting for you, where he shared the psd file for his wallpaper
