[Q] 3.5mm jack adpter, iphone female to SGS male? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all! I had an iphone for 6 months now and i have some great headphones with mic (zagg smartbuds). Now I'm a SGS owner. The problem, as we all know, is the 3.5 jack different connections. So I'm trying to find a 3.5mm, 4 conduct, iphone female to SGS male afaptor.
My first find is that http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-354r3m-r2f.htm works but costs way too much.
Many great headphones out there are iphone compatible (so no SGS) and i think we need a solution for that. If anyone here is an android developer...maybe he can create a software solution too.

Unfortunately most apple products use non standard wiring for the headphones, so you are more likely to find normal-to-iphone adapters and not the other way around

I think even that will work because iphone jack output is TRRS and samsungs TRSR
So the cable you are talking about is a
(female universal) TRSR<--->TRRS (male iphone)
Only the last 2 conducts change. So if you put an iphone compatible headset in the female input you will get a normal output.
Do you know where can I find adapters like the ones you mention?

Or hack it?
Has anyone tried instead of buying an adapter, stripping the cables and switching the ground and the mic on an "iPhone-type" headphones?
Would be great to learn your experiences on this, I have a great pair of Bose headphones that I love, and would really enjoy using this on the Galaxy S....

can anyone confirm if the smartbuds are working with this adapter ?

that says its FOR the iphone, not for iphone earphones in other devices so that may not work.
this one does work for sure as ive bought it.
http://www.meelec.com/MEE_TRRS_Adapter_for_P_Version_Headphones_p/adptr-trrs-35.htm

Good find, indeed that one says specifically that it swaps the connections: "Adapter Pinout: T-T, R1-R1, R2-S, S-R2"
$10 isn't great but isn't too bad, the one I saw months was something like $20-30.

can anyone confirm if the smartbuds are working with this adapter ?

Using standard 2.5mm headphones

Hello, would like to use my Blue Angel with my sony headphones.
I have heard of a "bic pen" trick to get music to play thru both audio channels, but not sure how to do it. Please advise.
Buy a PDA Bits converter from Expansys - much better and only about 10 UKP. They do one for headphones only and one with a PTT button, mic and headphone socket.
i already have a converter. But, if you insert it alll the way, there is only audio thru 1 side.I heard some people modified the adapter so it dosent go in all the way, but cant remember how
You have "a" converter, but not "the" converter
It's not a simple stereo jack
Hence the problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=16166&highlight=
There is a post in this forum describing the bic pen method. let me know if it works for you. I'm waiting for my converter to come
okay so i gather i need a special adapter. not a standard 3.5 to 2.5mm converter
Im located in London-where can i get 'the' adapter?
Help is much appreciated.
posted this from my blue angel.this phone is just too cool
The XDA IIs uses a 2.5mm 4 pin (Technically a 1 tip and 3 ring) connector whereas most 2.5 to 3.5 mm converters only have 3 pins. Also the pinout of the XDA IIs does not follow any particular standard in that the pin assignment is not the same as say Nokia's, Siemens or even the XDA II!
You could try various methods but they will usually cause some sort of problem such as activating the PTT, mono audio, no audio etc depending on where your three pins hit the four pins inside the XDA IIs. I found the only real solution is to use something like this -> PPC Techs Adaptor.
Happy hunting
so i need to look for a 2.5 mm 4 pin jack.
THe ppc techs one costs 7 quid....i can get the same thing for 50pence , yes PENCE in malaysia-from the local hardware store.Unfortunately im not returning there until summer, so does anyone know of any hardware stores in london that sell such items? I think it'd be much cheaper to source it from there rather than a PDA site.

Anyone got an Acer Tempo M900?

hi
i might get an acer tempo m900 because i saw one on expansys.com for £189.99
Brand new!
I think its a bargain but i dont know if they are any good.
Anyone?
flyboy
All i can say is it's not a HTC
Device database has all you need spec wise http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1765&c=acer_m900___tempo__m900
If it was me spending nearly £200 i'd check the market place for a good condition Raphael
i dont like the raphel not big enough screen.
This Acer has got a 3.8" touch screen
Anyway i wouldnt pay over £100 for something second hand.
Anyone got an acer then?
I got the device last week actually. Its a brilliant device but its let down by its lack of ram, although this has not been a problem yet so don't be put off by that.
Theres also a problem with 3.5mm connectivity for headphones.
The screen is very big and nice and the fingerprint reader is a great novelty that has some use.
I would recommend getting it.
So does the acer have an 3.5mm headphone jack or is it usb?
Have you got any pics you can show me that you have taken with the camera?
thanks

The M900 is a superb machine. I strongly recommend it. It doesn't have a 3.5mm headset socket, though. The wired headset (with mic) is a 10-pin mini-B USB connector. It really doesn't bother me at all, because I seldom use it, since it is required to listen to the FM radio only, as it acts as an antenna. For MP3s and videos (i.e. for all the remaining - and most important - sound sources) I use my SE HBH-IS800 stereo BT headsets. Of course people's needs are quite different. So, if a 3.5mm connector is a must for you, you better consider buying something else.
Just my 2 cents...
Cheers!
Carlos
does it use mini usb port to charge or does acer has it`s own special port for charging?

Yup! Although its mini-USB port is 10-pin, 5 of them are in the same position as the standard mini-USB. So, any mini-USB cable you might have would charge it (provided it has enough current (mAh), of course), as well as sync it.
Just my 2 cents...
Cheers!
Carlos
ja-marcin are you thinking of getting one?

Same opinion
what the htc community is offering is more than acer, but acer are doing ppcs that are the same thing but just cheaper.
Id be going for function and price rather than a specific model with ppcs.
And i wouldnt waste my money on a second hand diamond, tytn Ii, rapheal, prophet when for the same price i get more function, and less money spent
Just makes sense!!

[Q] Headphones / Inline volume control / call control

Looking to get some Klipsch Image S4 Headphones to compliment my HTC HD7.
The only problem with buying generic 3.5mm earbuds, is of course I lose the call and volume controls which come with the stock earbuds.
So: I want to get a externsion cable with the volume/call contrl buttons, so I can plug my headphones into that cable, and then that cable into the phone.
Anyone seen a product like this?

Their called Mic Adapter's, so go research, google, or ebay "mic adapter" and pick one you like, hope this helps.
To keep the stock feel of my headset, I just bought a small 3.5mm female connector. Then I opened the headsets remote (it is very easy: just pull the buttons up).
There is a little board inside. I removed the cables of the original earbuds and soldered the female connector with fine cable to it. But before trying this, one needs to make sure, that the soldering equipment you have is fine enough because the soldering points are VERY small.
Now I can use any earbud I want, without losing any of the look or functionality the original equipment offered.
The price was approximately 1 Euro + the new headphones.
Replacement headphones
Hi all,
I think my question is simpler. I can't get along with the HTC headphones when I am out running - my ears are a funny shape I guess, so I want to get some earphones with ear hooks. BUT, I really want to keep the microphone and volume controls. Can anyone explain what I should look for. I tried some Philips ones, for iPhone, and they did not adjust volume.
Thanks in advance if anyone could shed some light on this!

I believe the HS-930i or HS-730i are what you're looking for, they don't have any hooks, though.
Thanks Dorian, this is very helpful. I note that the ones you have picked out are specifically for iPhone - am I right in thinking that headphones that provide all functionality for iPhone will also provide all functionality for HTC HD7 as well?

No, I bought Seinheisser Headphones with Mic, it was compatible with the iphone therefore thought the same, paid £65 for these, found out on my return from holiday that they did not work with the HTC Trophy! Everything works bar the Mic! It works very well with my sister in laws iphone!
Hence why I am now trawling the xda forum looking for something that is gauranteed to work! Not willing to spend anymore money on anything else!
I hope this helps,
Will
Thanks Will - that was exactly my concern... you spend a lot of money and they still don't work! And of course shops aren't keen on you putting the earphones in your ear to check! The lack of responses to this suggests to me that, at the moment, there isn't a solution.
Unless someone knows differently...
Solution found?
I contacted HTC directly today (perhaps should have done this first!) and had a very helpful conversation with Mohammed in their support centre.
He pointed me at the Dixons site, which shows lots of accessories, together with product compatibility. This was very helpful.
I have just ordered some Nokia WH-800 earphones from Amazon for 18 GBP plus postage. I think they will do what I require.
I also loved the look of "PowerBeats Sport Headphones red with Control Talk" and I may ultimately go for those, although the price of 120 GBP is a little steep for me.
Anyway, I think I have found a solution!
Was hoping for a replacement set also - I must have odd ears as the htc standards (although sounding good) just don't stay put. I need those inner ear bud things or a full on over head set.
Andyspr - can you let us know if they work for you? Those over ear clips would sort me out!!

[Q] Stock headset

Okay, so i was out the other day and relised i had lost my original headphones while i was out. I use headphones daily and couldn't live without them.
Question is does anyone stock the original Samsung Headset with the PTT(push to talk) button on it? or maybe another manufacturer that works with the Ace.
Preferably I'm looking for standard rather than the in-ear pair.
Thanks in advance!
I've tested it with an original headset from LG (LG optimus one). And worked!
Maybe you should try buy a new one and test it before you actually buy it.
the pinout of samsung's stock headset is universal, you may use it on iPod, HP 4-pole audio+mic jack and in others, but not on nokia. nokia headsets follow a different pinout pattern, swapping ground to mic+shield. well, I did successfully converted a nokia headset to a universal one.
wait, I was lost there, but still, samsung's 3.5mm jack is universal. only nokia is an exception. hehehe. you may use any headset except for old iPod headsets and nokia headsets. iPod 4, iPhone 4 and newest ipods have the universal jack pinout configuration that shares with almost all of handsets.
Thanks for the replies guys. Done a bit of digging around and found a user on eBay selling original headsets for £3
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
I tried my old Sony Ericsson headset and the sound was so distorted. It was like the speakers were rattleing although the sound was so quiet...
anyways, as mentioned before, i've found a set on ebay and a reasonably good price of £2.20
Not sure if i'm allowed to link to ebay pages but here goes...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280795430244?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619
If I had a pound for every time i saw something sold as genuine on Ebay
We'll see what happens when they come, if they function properly ect... then at the end of the day i'm not fussed
Just got the set through this morning... Seems like stock, build quality is as good as my original, sounds is ok. and the button functions. So £2.20 well spent...
Thanks for your help guys

USB C Audio-Jack Adaptor?

Overlooked this when buying the tablet, supprised there was no adaptor included. Are they assuming all the buyers are S10 users?
Anyway, will any adaptor work or does it have to be one from Samsung?

The adaptor has to have a dac built in or it will not work with the tablet same with the note 10
The Note 10 dongle has a DAC built in. It should work for the tab s6. I have one ordered right now.
I have USB C audio adapter from Huawei Mate 20 Pro, but when i connect it to the tablet, a message appears that the usb device is not supported.
I have S5e, but it should apply S6
I have few different USB C headset adapter for Pixel and HTC U11 Life, both work as it's supposed to
As much as I hate to say it, the cheap Apple one is one of the best you can get unless you're willing to spend quite a bit more. Did a bunch of reading after I ordered my Note 10+, tests put the Apple one ahead of the Google ones and plenty of others that cost 5 times as much as the Apple one. Works well, but as with all things Apple the cable is going to fray within a year. I added a silicone stress relief that covered the entire cable since I had a bag of them, maybe it'll last two years.
have 2 of those
none are working with korean LTE S6
any idea why?
thanks
Bought this one works perfectly.

This model works on the N10, S8, and my laptop via Type C. My S6 hasn't arrived, but it would likely function given the devices I mentioned. Sound quality is great with my KZ earbuds.

Got this

I haven't received my S6 yet but this Google dongle works with my Note 10+ so I imagine it will work with the tablet too.

Oddly enough, the Middle eastern versions (and most probably Europeans) got a type C headphones in the box, i myself bought from Bahrain and we got a type C headphones, albeit the cheap kind but hey it works
USB C connector has analog headphone connection
They are switched in with some sense ID magic, but there is left, right, and microphone analog wires. You can find the details in a search.
Any cheap (non-DAC) headphone adapter should work as it is just the right wiring and maybe a few resistors on the right pins. I have one that works.
I purchased 2 and both make hissing soumd, One was noname, the other Baesus make both ****.
