We are both in Sweden, I got the 2.2 update he didn't. I have i9000XXJPM he got i9000XXJM1.
I am on the operator Telia and he is on Tre. It seems like he got some sort of update, and some part of 2.2 is there, like that task manager widget and the new lockscreen, but the rest is still 2.1-update1. The info also says 2.1-update1.
Are we missing something? Kies tells him he already has the latest version :s

So on samfirmware you can download the froyo firmware and other files, and now I'm wondering: how safe is it, if I have a branded phone (austria (drei)), to flash the firmware? It says for jpm I need to first flash another firmware from there, so I'd probably do that too.
What does really happen though? Will it be unlocked and/or unbranded, could it break something, and is there a way to backup my firmware in case something goes wrong?
And how would I get it back when flashing breaks something, like if download mode then doesn't work anymore or something.
Oh and, hi I'm new here
I also have the SGS from Drei.at. If you would like to unlock your phone,
it's turned out to be (surprisingly) very easy: just download from market SGS_Unlock.apk.,open it - and you will get your code.
Now, if you want your phone being unbranded and running better than before, but not Froyo although: you can make the registry hack and upgrade to the latest official build via Kies. Here is what I did:
".....I changed registry from
"SoftwareRevision"="I9000NEJG3/I9000DREDRE/I9000NEJG1/I9000NEJG3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDDRE"
"HIDSWVER"="I9000NEJG3/I9000DREDRE/I9000NEJG1/I9000NEJG3"
to
"SoftwareRevision"="I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEE"
"HIDSWVER"="I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
Now after upgrade, I have:
I9000XWJM2/I9000XEEJM1/I9000XXJM1/I9000XWJM2
GT-I9000HKDDRE
the 3 branding is gone, but in the phone it says :
Firmware version:2.1-update1
Build number ECLAIR.XWJM2........"
Now the phone runs much smoother, I don't notice any lags (before I had a lot of problems), and have some minor improvements overall.
The only thing I would like to mention is: now after upgrade, if I am going to Firmware upgrade in Kies, it says: "This device's version cannot be updated" instead of something like before: there is no update, as you are running latest version.... Not sure why this happened, but at-least I know that there some people also got this message.... may be it's because at first I've upgraded the phone and then unlocked it, but I don't know.....
Not sure yet how serious this situation is for upgrading the phone via Kies when Froyo will come out officially, didn't have time to research it... But in the worst scenario I always have the possibility to do it manually - 3 buttons download mode is working.
I know this is not exactly what you were asking for, just thought may be this info also would be any helpful.
Nothing stops you from re-flashing your carriers firmware either, so make sure you have a backup using rom manager or check and see if your original firmware is on samfirmware.
Also, backup your /efs folder just in case, and make note of your apn settings.

This is a really strange combination of firmware.
NE stands for H3G Nordic (Sweden)
Are you sure it was like that?
I900ONEJG3 would make much more sense (-> ONE Austria)

I would like to know if any of you have upgraded to Froyo in the way it was meant to be. By this I mean without rooting/flashing/Odin/regedit + Kies, I mean by simply connecting the phone and clicking on upgrade firmware in Kies and tada Froyo?
Reason I ask is I've heard that the official Froyo release is available in some countries but I want to know if it's true?
So if you have upgraded to Froyo by this way please post and also what country you're from.
I'm from South Africa and I'm still waiting.
There's been loads of posts about this, think it was just released to Nordic countries...

I tweaked the registry in Kies to get the JP6 update as froyo still isn't available in the UK. Samsung soon pulled the Swedish update for whatever reason.

I've upgraded to FroYo with Kies (without any reg hacks) and I could still get it a couple of weeks ago, didn't tried to flash my phone again tho, because all the problems I had, was gone, after I restored my phone from the recovery menu.
I'm in Denmark btw.
Wait, you mean we should be able to flash phone through KIES??
:O
Was already wondering what is kies all about..
I am only on Firmware Verion XXJF3 and I know that a newer version is avaiable. Yet for some weird reason my Kies application does not recognise this. I thought getting the new version would help and today I got the latest Kies 1.5.3.10103_100 but still no joy :-(
Also my phone was purchased on Orange Contract if this helps
any ideas please?
I think it's because the phone is an Orange contract phone, Samsung have said Froyo has been released but won't be available for contract phone users until about the end of this month.
Hang in there buddy

Thanks for the reply. Im surprised that even the newer version JM1 is not avaiable as opposed to Froy. I would have thought that at least I could update to this version :-(
device's version cannot be updated
Hi,
When I select firmware upgrade from Kies, I get this information:
Model Name: GT-9000
CurrentVersion: PDA:JF3/Phone:JF3
This device's version cannot be updated.
I have done a factory reset to my phone and even unrooted the phone but still i am getting the same error.
I have tried to reinstall Kies as well but no luck.
Did any one find any think on this.

Hi,
I have a question that's related.
If you have an Orange contract phone, but have flashed with a firmware to remove Orange branding, does Kies then think that your phone is non-contract and subsequently update it?
Thanks!
Hi,
I've recently moved from Australia to the USA (with an AT&T sim) and would like to upgrade to 2.2. Kies still does not have an image available so I'm looking to flash it myself but not sure which ROM file to use.
The phone is unlocked and unbranded. The version details are:
PDA: I9000DTJG4
PHONE: I9000DTJG3
CSC: I9000XSAJG2
I've been reading about the I9000UGJK3 image but I believe that installs the Bell branding on the phone, which I'd like to try avoid.
Which image should I be using?
Thanks
Ivan
use information from this topic

to locate your code
then use information from this topic to flash your phone, using the ROM for your phone

if the KIES comes back with no results for Froyo, then that means it has not been released yet for Australia region, and you will have to pick from any of the other flavours available
or stay in 2.1
Thanks for the quick reply.
According to regedit I have a GT-I9000HKAXSA. This doesn't seem to be listed as a "known" product code just yet. Which might explain why Kies doesn't have an update for it yet.
I guess what I'm trying to determine is a) can any image be placed on any phone? b) if yes, then what would be the best image if I wanted to flash my phone and have it work in the USA on AT&T (I'm trying to make sure that my correct 2/3G bands are still going to work post flash)
Dude, I did this tonight and it worked
http://webtrickz.com/how-to-update-...oid-2-2-froyo-via-kies-anywhere-in-the-world/
And I'm in Australia on the optus network
I just couldn't believe the lag and I didn't want to root my phone just yet
I also couldn't believe that Vodafone got froyo straight out of the box!
when it says "refresh" after you've done the regedit bit it means hit your home button. worked straight away
Vodafone straight out of the box?!? Where did you hear that? Not true I'm with vodafone australia and we got eclair, I did the reg edit to get XXJPO like you

Thanks Guys, I managed to sort this by using Odin and putting I9000XWJPA on it. Almost bricked the thing b/c I didn't read all the documentation completely!
Seems to be working like a charm at the moment.
I upgraded my SGS, via KIES, this saturday using a spoofed NEE (Scandinavian) product code, but now it seams like the Gingerbread update is no longer available via KIES:
When I spoof my product code today i get: This is the latest firmware (check ExcibitA attachment) instead of it telling me that there is an update.
ExcibitB attachment is my current version without spoofing.
Can anyone else confirm this?
I'm in the UK and i updated this morning not using any spoof or anything, completely stock. I can confirm my kies is saying the same as yours.
Im in norway and yesterday Kies offered me to upgrade my phone to: PDA:JVB PHONE:JVK CSC:JV3 (XEE)
But today it is telling me i currently have the latest firmware: PDA:JS7 PHONE:JPY CSC:JS1 (XEE)
So it seems to me they pulled out the scandinavian update
Possible its a server overload with millions who cannot wait all spoofing product code .
jje
Well I just phoned Samsung uk, and the guy said it has been removed due to a problem with the server. So, wanting a second opinion, I phoned straight back and spoke to someone else, who just said it's been removed as it was just a test!!? I don't think half of them know what they're talking about in that place!
