...practically since I got this phone the week the N1 was released. Thing is, I updated to FRG83 and lost my root. I thought I wouldn't care, but now I've decided that I'd like to run a nice Sense ROM on this for a while. Apparently I can *always* get my root back since I've got an unlocked bootloader, but I'm having trouble finding out how to get root back...everything else seems to be newer methods that don't take into account if you've already got the bootloader unlocked.
What do I do? Can anyone help me out? Thanks.
EDIT: Oh, forgot to mention. I *would* just flash the FRF91 Superboot, but my recovery is broken (shows Android guy and Triangle) and I can't fix it with ROM Manager...because I don't have root...
Just flash a recovery image from fastboot, wipe and do whatever you want.
Look on my signature, and then go where it points and look for "flashing recovery with unlocked bootloader".

This looks promising. As soon as I can hijack a new cable, I'll try this.

Flash the GB ROM and corresponding kernel of your choice. You just can't go back to the old hboot... but can still flash GB ROMS on the new hboot.

Thanks for the help but I do not have my phone rooted right now. I've been trying for like the past hours with the all in one kit from hasooon, but I cannot seem to get it to work. I have unlocked my bootloader already. Would that be the reason why?

Could be. I'm pretty sure you need to relock your bootloader before running the RUU...
Is there a way to relock my bootloader? Also, I was trying from your superguide eariler but I just got super confused. If you could help me, that would be great.
I actually have ICS updated from GB today with the new AT&T. Now that I've updated my OS, I have no idea how to root my phone anymore because there are only posts for 2.3.4 GB. I've actually tried the permroot from hasoon, but I can't seem to get that to work.
Well, to relock the bootloader, you can either use hasoon2000's Vivid All-In-One Toolkit, which has pretty much everything you need to relock the bootloader.
Otherwise, you boot into the bootloader and into fastboot, and follow the steps for relocking the bootloader in part 6 of the Superguide.

I actually have a question. I can't boot into bootloader by holding down power and down volume...
Successfully relocked my bootloader. Many thanks!
Okay now to root my phone. Could you tell me the exact steps to do it? I am having a lot of trouble. I run it with debugging USB on, it will then restart my phone, first it will appear something like a circle with a down arrow inside it. Afterwards, there will be a triangle icon that's red with another arrow. On the Command, it will say device not found for all files then press any key.
Appreciate your help!

You need to unlock your bootloader once again. Then root it. Use the All-In-One toolkit, it will be much easier.
unlock bootloader > then flash the wcx recovery and that should root it.

So all I need to do is unlock bootloader once again, flash the wcx recovery, then I'll be good to go. I think the reason is because I flashed the first CMW recovery. That may be the reason.
Thanks for your help

Yea, the CWM is a bad idea on the Vivid. Wildchild did a very good job with his WCX recovery. Just unlock your phone again, then click the flash WCX recovery. Wildchild made his recovery so that when flashed, it would automatically give root.

I actually downgraded my phone from ICS to GB. I rooted my phone with zergrush. With my phone unlocked, now it went from temproot, to permroot. I am actually trying to find a rom for my phone that I can play around with without getting bored. I want to just leave it as S-On instead of off. Hope you can help with a little bit with that.
I got my phone back from repair and I'm confused ass to what to do next. I'm set to 'relocked' bootloader, but s-off without recovery or su apparently on 4.3. Every guide I find requires me to do something that causes things to come to as halt. Unless I'm doing something wrong I can't flash a recovery due to some error, then can't flash anything through recovery obviously, and I tried rumrunner but that stalls out after some point saying 'device is not rooted AND unsecure kernel'. What do I do next? Will HTCDev work? That's how I originally unlocked at release.
Really need help here, leaving the country for 3 weeks thursday morning and want to be back in business.
included pic of bootloader
yeah unlock again at htc dev then you will be able to flash a recovery
Or look here
[how to] lock/unlock your bootloader without htcdev(s-off required)
Thanks, had a feeling I needed to HTCDev again but didn't want to risk it given my limited time. Took some tinkering but looks like I'm unlocked and rooted again. Thanks BD.
Hi, maybe a noob question but, ever since I rooted my Moto X I cannot enter recovery mode. I believe that when the phone reboots on recovery mode it mounts /system as writable, but I wonder if there's a way to enter recovery mode at all after rooting. I have a locked bootloader on 4.2.2.

yea you can still boot into stock recovery. just boot to the bootloader via volume down + power, then hit the volume down button only till you select recovery then hit volume up. and there is the stock recovery. enjoy.
You'd have to flash back to the stock recovery. However, I think you lose access to a writable system which leads to setting write protection off for good.

i know for a fact you can enter the stock recovery after you root your device. i have done it many times before i flashed TWRP over my stock recovery
also when you root 4.4 you dont change the stock recovery so you should still be able to enter it.
That only applies if you have a Dev Edition or an unlocked bootloader.

well you learn something new every day.
did not know that having a unlocked bootloader would change if you could enter stock recovery after root or not.
thank you for the information.
guess i should of played around with the rooting and stuff before i unlocked my bootloader so i had some more knowledge on locked bootloader processes

That's what I was thinking, when I enter to fastboot and select recovery, it just boots to system. I guess I should unlock the bootloader then, I feel a little paranoid not having recovery

I can unlock, I'm on telcel (Mexico) and I already checked the motorola web site. It's just that reading motorola saying I will no longer have warranty is a little harsh and I tried postponing unlocking it as long as I could (or at least until there's a ROM that catches my eye).
I looked into safestrap but it seems not many ROMS support this yet, or am I in the wrong here?

rooting your phone removes stock recovery. it actually hijacks the stock recovery. it is part of the exploit giving you root. SS has worked on many devices even tho it may not say that it is supported. hashcode might be able to change something in SS to make it more compatible for your device if it isn't already.

Technically, you already lost your warranty by rooting the phone. If you can unlock your bootloader, do it. That alone will save your ass more than a custom recovery.
Hey!
I want to return my HTC One Mini 2 to original as much possible. Currently, I've managed to backup to a stock ROM, but I still have the TWRP recovery and an unlocked bootloader. What I'm looking for is someone who can tell me or a link to where I can find a stock recovery.img (I've been looking through the forums, no links are working anymore), and eventually how this process is done. The other thing is locking the bootloader, as I've gathered, this is a rather simple process(?).
Lastly, probably a long shot though, is it possible to remove the *TAMPERED* mark?

I attempted to flash and unroot my Nexus 6 via Wugfresh's tool, and thought it was a success. I hit 'relock' and now the device is bootloader locked with no OS installed.
However, I can connect via fastboot so far, but I am not very good with it. I think I may also be able to push files, but when I attempted to flash SlimLP the device just reset.
TWRP is still present on the device, but I cannot unlock my bootloader without getting a ROM on there... So I am stuck...
I need to mail this phone back in tomorrow for cracked screen, so I am hoping someone can help me. Thank you.

First check here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/how-to-nexus-6-one-beginners-guide-t2948481
Get the sdk tools and once set up, see if you can do adb devices and have the phone show up on the PC, if so, do adb push (name of rom file) then boot to twrp and install. If that doesn't work, check the same page above (since you don't have an OS not sure what would happen) try the unlock instructions for fastboot ( I would wait for someone else to comment before trying this). You might want to message this user http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2872010 rootSU and see if he can give guidance, he has lots of experience.

I still can't seem to get past the fact that my bootloader is locked...
Thanks though.

Try this: Reboot to bootloader, select recovery mode, enter TWRP, mount MTP and push/sideload and flash a flashable image from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexu...tboot-t3066052.
Flashing
Hey, thanks for the tip.
The link you sent was dead, and can you help me understand the commands for flashing in ADB with a locked bootloader?

Sorry my bad, here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/fxz-nexus-6-recovery-flashable-fastboot-t3066052.
Follow the instructions as i posted, place the download rom in the /android-sdk/platform-tools/ folder and boot in bootloader and select recovery, select adb sideload there and type in cmd: adb sideload name.zip.
Unlocked Bootloader
The thread says they are for unlocked bootloader only.
I have TWRP installed, but for some reason at one point my bootloader was relocked.
So now I have No OS to 'enable oem unlock' to unlock my bootloader.
This is my issue.

It worked for other users, but hey if you have a better option try that.
I don't understand, what do you mean it worked for other users? The thread specifically states the bootloader has to be unlocked, and unfortunately I do not have an unlocked bootloader.
So I cannot fix this issue unless I either get a rom to flash with a locked bootloader, or somehow force unlock the bootloader
