Hi,
now that we finally have 2.2 on our beloved Milestones, I'd like to know if anyone knows how to port the Droid 2 MediaGallery and DLNA (worked on the 2.1 Milestone, too, with a Dexter Mod).
I already tried to install the MediaGallery from DroidX but after moving it to /system/apps/ it doesn't show up (after reboot and setting permissions).
Any help and hints are appreciated.
drop it on your SDcard and install using astro.
DLNA needs a system service in init.rc(dlnasrv), some libs, and framework, becides the DLNA.apk file as well.
so its not so easy as just installing the apk file..
Why don't you use Twonky Mobile for DLNA? Its free and less hassle. I've tried it on Panasonic Viera and it works.

Hi! Do you probably know if its possible to just copy these needed files?
The Droid 2 Gallery is pretty nice, so probably this can be ported, too from your Froyo Mod?

I tried it, but I dont like this client. A more integrated client like the original would be much better.
Could anyone attach the Droid 2 Gallery please? (if it's not warez!) I'd really like to see how it is better than N1's...

I got this app from my HTC Magic HK Version, it can see youTube HD!! How can i install this apk in Hero Rom~~
I don't know anythink about the YouTube HD app but the basic Youtube app allow to see in "normal quality" and "high quality".
I'm not sure that the HTC Magic is capable of playing 1280x720 video ... on his 480x320 screen.

Copy the *.apk to your sd-card and open the file with ASTRO. ASTRO is a free application that can be found on Market. This application can do much more that just install applications from a file (apk), it's recomended to have this app
Thanks for the file!
Oh damn, I've been waiting for this. I'll give this a try!
Edit: Doesn't work.
I guess wishing for HQ vids over 3G/HSDPA is still a dream... no pun intended =/
This worked flawlessly on my Archos 5 Android, thanks.
is this the same as selecting high quality in the original YouTube application?
The file downloads as a .ZIP archive, therefore, there is no .apk. At least, I could not find it when I unzip the file...

how did you get it working?? I'm having trouble getting it to run in the archos 5 android.
little tutorial maybe...?
are you guys serious? there is an option in the regular youtube app to select a higher quality. so i dont really see the need for this apk??? Im not trying to be mean by any means though. Just saying some people might have been a little misinformed
I think people are wanting to watch the videos in high definition, rather than high quality.
well as someone stated before our devices wont play higher than 430x320 res
anyone knows why i could only chose normal or high quality only when i am on wifi connection but not 3G??
(windows) search "folder options" > '"veiw tab" > make sure "hide extensions for known file types " is UNchecked..... rename "youtube.zip" into "youtube.apk
Does anyone have a youtube.apk that defaults to playing the normal (low) quality version of the video. I want to use it on a Eken tablet pc but it doesnt like the high quality videos freezes on the first frame even though sound continues but low quality setting plays ok
Download the zip
Extract the apk
Put it in your sdk tools folder
open command prompt
Navigate to your sdk tools folder
connect your phone via usb
type in command prompt:
adb remount
adb push YouTube.apk /system/app/YouTube.apk
Voila! It works, atleast these steps worked for me..
// Note: Thats how you get it on your phone..
Still doesnt default to highquality
ok so i have used remote desktops apps and everything but im looking for an app that just shows different drives on your home pc and able to open them up and play on your pc...
so it would kinda look like astro file manager but you can look though you pc
the closes that i have got was Gmote but they open it in there own player..
i wanna open and play it thought vlc
would be better to use wifi but bluetooth is ok 2
anyone come across a app like this???
Estrongs file explorer for both WiFi and BT.
Use search before using "new post", it helps.

Install XBMC
Get XBMC remote from Google Code

Droid Life has posted the .apk for the upcoming Honeycomb (Android 3.0) Music player. I have tested it on the G-Tablet (running TNT Lite 3.12) and on my Droid 2 and it works great. Please keep in mind that not all features are working yet...it is still a work in progress.

yeah i saw this too on droid-life since i look at that site every couple mins as i do with this site, been watching that site for years. that music app does look like its going to be some great stuff once its completed.

Yeah, I had problems downloading from my Droid 2 as well... I had to connect to the PC as Mass Storage and download it that way instead.

I bet the streamed music has to do with Googles purchase of simplified media. I used it back in my iPhone days and it allowed me to stream my whole iTunes library to other computes or my phone.
Thanks for sharing.
Have you guys looked at Audiogalaxy? There was a post today about it. You download a free app from the market, setup a little tiny program on your pc. Tell the pc program where your music is and stream away. I am using it and it works great... I just used my Facebook login with it and it worked..

With this audiogalaxy is it possible to have music on my droid and send it to the gtab? and like remote control the music PLAYING on the gtab from the droid? cant seem to get any program to work the way i need/want it to. tried twonky but it wont recognize the gtab as a player when using the droid app on the droid. main goal is to be able to pretty much control music on the gtab while its plugged into speakers from across the room or anywhere in the house.
Hope everyone has had a nice holiday season so far. I got a shiny new XOOM as a gift and I was wondering what the best file manager for it would be since it does not have one stock. I have Astro installed right now. I would like to keep stock firmware but I am willing and know how to side load apps. Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

Definitely FileManager HD or ES File Explorer
File Manager HD works perfect for me and allows me to stream movies on my home network when used in conjunction with a capable video player.
Es File explorer. Especially now I know it also makes the external card write able via its settings. Great for moving files, viewing videos over Lan as well.

I've tried about all of them. File manager HD is the best, and has good root exploring, plus pretty good compression and unzipping with Bluetooth sharing.
There's two "File Manager HD" programs in the market... are you guys talking about the one by Rhythm Software or XUFEIFENG?
I believe the one everyone is referring to is rhythm software. At least that's the one I use and I rather like it.
Antek File Manager is quite good. Lots of options, freezing apps etc.
As you can tell from the responses there is no best. I use four different ones. So look them over and choose what your needs call for.

Astro
Astro file manager with the SMB plugin is nice. It allows me to access fileshares on my network as well as locally.
File Manager HD is also great.
File Manager HD for most navigation.
Root Explorer for root stuff.
AndroZip for handling zip files.
i was wondering, is there anyway to port Smartshare to an installable APK for use in other roms?

Anything is possible, but it is highly unlikely as the LG apps require the underlying framework to function - which means they won't work on non-stock-based ROMs.
that sucks, so it's like some Samsung apps? Is smartshare the only app that can stream videos over wifi direct to a tv? is there any other app that can do this too? so far i have found none.

There not much widespread adoption of wifi direct in applications, but im sure there must be something out there to perform that function. Most modern tvs are capable of streaming for a upnp share, might be able to set one up on your phone.
something like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp&hl=en (i havnt tested it)
