Can't boot into recovery!

I just rooted my Nexus 1 Froyo per instructions on theUnlockr.com. I installed ADB first, Then proceded to root. I then flashed a recovery rom: recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1-cyan.img. This was successful. I then booted phone into recovery mode. Selected recovery and the first couple times I received a black screen with an exclamation point in the middle of a triangle next to green android. I flashed recovery rom once again and this time it allowed me to enter. I made my backup image and even booted into recovery mode again�wiped phone clean and restored image. I thought I was golden! Later I tried to boot into recovery mode again and I received same problem as mentioned above. I tried again no luck. I even flashed recovery rom again and It still dose not work. Why could this be happening? I even went through the steps to root phone again (that went well). But still no recovery mode. I even tried another recovery rom: recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.1.img. It did the same thing. Worked one time and then nothing! I need to fix this before I load custom Roms.

I was able to flash recovery via your instructions but phone STILL will not boot into recovery mode. I hold down the volume key and power.....all I get is triangle with droid net to it. Im going to try and Un-root my phone and start from scratch! Thanks for the help!

you are getting the triangle with the droid because the recovery did not flash correctly, try usung rom manager if for nothing else, just to install Amon/clockwork

Did you remove the two scripts like you were told? /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and /system/recovery-from-boot.p

you are getting the triangle with the droid because the recovery did not flash correctly, try usung rom manager if for nothing else, just to install Amon/clockwork
Cool thanks for the advice! I did try Rom Manager and used Amon/Clockwork recovery. After flashing the Recovery Image I booted into recovery from Rom Manger. No problem! BUT.....when I rebooted phone from recovery menu I again went in to Rom Manager and tried to Boot back in to recovery and I got the triangle with the Droid next to it. I pulled battery and started phone again. I flashed Amon/Clockwork recovery again from Rom Mang. and again I was able to successfully boot in to recovery. This pattern goes on and on. It seams that every-time I want to boot into recovery I need to flash Amon/clockwork image. Somewhere phone is not retaining the information. Everything looks to work just fine as long as I Flash before I go into recovery. I'm sure this is not the way it should work. Any ideas?

When was I told to remove the two scripts? Where did this come from? Please let me know what they are for and why removing them would help? Also, if I do need to remove these would it be done by using Root File Manager, finding file and selecting delete? Sorry if I sound new to this.....it's because I am! LOL. Thanks for any help you can provide!

It's documented in random places, of course the post below also has the same info. I don't know precisely what the two files do, but they apparently try to restore the recovery.
Trust me, it will fix the problem. Remove them, re-flash recovery.

You saved my Droid! You were right! deleting those 2 files worked. I'm well into flashing Custom ROMs. Your the only one who got it right! Good job! Thanks Again!

So, I'm not the OP, but I am having trouble deleting the files despite the fact that they are both say "YES" in read and write in properties. I tried to reflash from ROM Manager and I keep getting an error there. Not sure what to do.
BTW, I'm using a Galaxy Nexus. Would love some help as this is all uncharted terrain for me.

If I understand, your problem is that you can't actually flash a custom recovery from ROM Manager ?
Which do you use ?
Are you trying to flash a recovery in recovery mode ?
Please link here files you tried to flash.

I can't flash from ROM Manager. Initially, I didn't want to purchase the download capability. So, first, I used the program tools and flashed from there. I got Clockwork Mod to work, but then when I restarted it and went into "recovery," I got nothing.
Now, I can't flash at all.

The galaxy nexus should have fastboot capabilities, this is the best and safest way to flash your recovery partition
Be sure to use the proper recovery image for your device
If you need help finding it or setting up fastboot let me know

I have only ever found a guide for a temporary flash. I would follow the instructions and then CWM wouldn't stick. =\

So here is the typical steps to follow
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
And that's it, were you using fastboot to just boot it? Were you doing another method? The more details you give the faster and more accurate your help will be

I used instructions from http://androidforums.com/internatio...root-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html#enter-recovery.
The ROM wouldn't "stick" and then the USB wasn't even recognized by the end of everything.

Start by booting into your bootloader and writing down everything word for word on that screen here. Next boot to recovery and write down what you see there. Even better upload pics of each. Again the more detailed you can be the more help you can get

EASY ClockworkMod Recovery Fastboot for Cricket! [Updated: 4/23]

Download openZIO-clockworkmod-recovery-pack.zip
Extract to C:\
Run "m6000_setup.msi" in the CWM folder and Follow install.
**you may encounter software signature issues, just 'install software/driver anyway'.
Plug in your phone to USB, power down.
Boot to fastboot (Hold Send/End simultaneously til fastboot starts)
open a command prompt and navigate to the "CWM" directory

Fastboot boot into openzio_clockwork-recovery image

Profit.
***You will Lose your Kyocera Logo once you RESTORE (due to the way cwm dumps the boot partition).

I have edited this initial post because I have found a workaround to get clockwork recovery to load on the ZIO without wiping data/cache.
Unfortunately, until Koush gets the module fixed to run remotely from our phones, you will need to be connected to a PC, and know how to use Fastboot.

try downloading ROM Manager from the Market and then having it install the recovery.

Our phone isnt in the phone model list.
Install from sdcard prompts me to install clockworkmod recovery first.

isnt there a custom recovery option???? bet you can save that image from the page to the sd card and then run it through rom manager???
BTW I hate rom manager LOL.... I tryied to use it to format my sd card for link2sd.... and it tried to boot thephone into boot or recovery or something.... and ended up completely factory resetting my phone
hell I had even installed a handfull of apps before it happend LOL and my dumb ass didnt do a TI backup....

How would this be accomplished?
Everytime I choose to install from SD, it prompts me to install clockworkmod recovery first
*edit: "Flash Alternate Recovery" is grayed out as well.

Well, we used fastboot to load it up.
Then used adb to tell it to boot into recovery. There was also some key combo I forget. It's all around page 30 or so of the 1.6 thread.

What do we need to do to make clockworkmod work?

Those images generally need to be flashed through fastboot, and fastboot might not even work depending on the bootloader.
you need the sdk installed first, and adb working and added to your $path.
after that

obviously, replace path/to/recoery with the actual path that you downloaded the file to.

That revocery image (I found out) is for the 1.6 OS.
Being as we have 2.2 and an updated kernel: would this recovery still work?

To access fastboot, we just power down, then hold the power/end and send key simultaneously.

recovery only cares about the hardware, not the os or kernel, thats why you use it to flash custom roms and kernels. It boots before anything else is loaded.

[Q] Sprint 2.2 Default Rom Dump - Anyone have?

Hello everyone, Im in desperate need of a sprint zio rom dump. A while back i uninstalled the default home screen as i have been using launcher pro for a few months or so. It seems that when i did this, it removed it from the recovery image also. After performing a hard reset on my phone this afternoon the phone boots up without a home screen and im unable to open any programs or anything. Can someone please help with a .img file or update.zip dump of the current or old sprint rom. I cant find one anywhere through my countless hours of searching the net. The recovery mode only lists the wipe options and does not show any kind of update from zip. The cricket clockwork method listed wont boot giving an incomplete rom error.
The lack of support for the sprint version is quite depressing. Their site does not give any kind of downloads either as it only states to run the OTA update using the homescreen.
Thanks alot goes out in advance to those that can help me with my tough situation!

If anyone has a working 2.2 rom for sprint they can boot our recovery and backup then copy the backup folder from clockworkmod from their SD and upload it. If you only need Launcher2 I can send it to you.

i have launcher2 and a backup of every other apk on my sd card. My problem is i have no way of installing them back onto the phone. The hard reset has turned off usb developer mode and im stuck. The only method i can see to repair this is using fastboot and dropping the sprint image back on top. I tried creating my own update.zip and running it using the android tool but unfortunately this method was only for os upgrades hence why i am here stuck without a solution.

Use adb with USB debugging or terminal emulator and push the files to /system/app
Example my files are in the root of my SD card
In adb shell or terminal emulator, su for root access. Then type "cat /sdcard/appname.apk > /system/app/appname.apk" then type "chmod 0644 /system/app/appname.apk"
Then reboot and see what happens.

How can i use adb if usb debugging is not enabled and there is no way to turn it on? To be clear my phone boots directly to a black screen with no home screen. I have no way to get the to system menu. The only thing i have is the notification bar at the top and the search does not work. I dont get any notification that a call is incomming but i do with txt msgs as it shows in the notification bar.
I need a bootloader, fastboot, or a recovery method that will allow me to install the apk again. Booting to the os is useless.

Your USB debugging should have been turned on a long time ago aswell as unknown sources. Hopefully someone with sprint 2.2 can use openzio's clockworkmod to backup their system.img then you can use fastboot to flash the system.img

The hard reset unchecked this setting as its never been on by default.
I really do hope someone can help me out here. Im stuck with a fix in reach just need the files

You need to use fastboot to flash the system.img
If you can't enable USB debugging you cannot use adb to push any files. Did you ever use openzio's recovery to perform a backup?

Solved - What i did to enable dev mode again was simple. I uploaded an apk to my own website and sent the url to my phone via txt msg. I opened the url and it said i need to enable Unknown sources and presented me with a beautiful shortcut . Once i got in i was able to enable usb debugging and unknown sources allowing me to use adb once again. Thanks for your help and i hope this post will be useful to someone in the future.

Im still in need of that rom dump if anyone can please provide.

Best I got is a stock 2.1 Sprint ROM from when we were trying to port it to Cricket.

Idea... flash stock 2.1 rom. Update to 2.2 if sprint has the OTA 2.2 update, then if possible use openzio's recovery to backup using nandroid. That way you have a stock 2.2 system.img to use to save your phone from disaster.

i just check that url is 2.2 stock rom, if you have 2.1 stock rom it will great, im failed update to 2.2 the best one is back to 2.1 first..

If you flash 2.2 from ADB it will work... but some people are having issues with PRL/ESN and stuff not being read

You will actually need to use fastboot to flash the images.
"fastboot erase system"
"fastboot flash system system.img"
"fastboot erase userdata"
"fastboot flash userdata data.img"
"fastboot erase cache"
"fastboot reboot"

[Q] Help - Nexus One Recover Image

Hello:
I justed unlocked my nexus one for the first time. i was successful in unlocking it, but after flashing my phone with the recovery image: recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1.img, i'm getting a triangle with an exclamation sign.
did i use the wrong recovery image? what i'm i doing wrong?

well this is because your stock Android is still pointing to the stock recovery,
There are two ways of overcoming the problem you have,
Step 1 would be to flash recovery again
Step 2 would be to boot the phone into recovery (without booting into the stock OS) after completing step 1 and flash a custom ROM or you need to delete a few files.

To get into your custom recovery without booting, just follow the on phone menu options, BOOTLOADER then RECOVERY. Once in recovery, flag this, and it will delete the two files that restore stock recovery:

Is it possible to flash a recovery without using ADB? Possibly directly from the phone using the terminal? I have my phone at work on a computer without ADB, and my phone has its bootloader unlocked but has not been rooted.

Short answer is no...
Unlocking the bootloader allows you to use fastboot, which requires connection to a computer. On phone methods require root access...
If you have a usb cable you could do it from your works computer (all you need install is the driver).

Just use Rom manager and first flash an old version of clockworkmod, which is located on the bottom of the app. After that flash amon ra recovery which is the option above the clockworkmod option.

CWM recovery?

OK here's the deal, I have my phones boot loader unlocked and its rooted, now I want to install cwm, on all my previous devices I did this through ROM manager but atm our device is not supported there. However I saw a guy on here (can't remember his name) use a twrp recovery from the photon q on our device, can I do the same with cwm in ROM manager? Or are there compatibility issues?

They used the photon for cwm. Don't do that though. Use our official one located in the development section.

Do this but replace the cwm.img in "*\Myth Tools\tools" folder with the one from this thread or just use the one from that thread up front, no need to hassle with replacing files or anything. Go to the thread I linked, download the file, boot your phone into fastboot and run the command from the thread inside the folder the cwm.img is in.

I'm going to jump on this thread too.
I'm having issues, I can seem to get CWM to install. I have rooted/unlocked. I replaced the cwm with the newer one. I used the myth tool to reboot into Fastboot, while on the unlocked screen, I ran the recovery on the tool. The phone restarted, but I figure out how to get to cwm recovery, or if it even worked.

adb reboot recovery or hold down volume up and power button when turning the phone on or hold down volume up, volume down and power button when powering on then in the boot options screen use volume down to move highlight and volume up to select.

Thanks for your help, it much appreciated. However, I think I'll have to bow out now. This stuff is over my head. I was really hoping to get PA on my phone, but I'll just have to settle for TasKarou launcher for pie controls. Thanks for everybody's help.

Don't give up just yet. It's worth it to get custom ROMs on your phone.
Do a search around the forums here and you'll find a custom build of a CWM based recovery by mattlgroff made for this phone. Flash that to recovery with fastboot and you should then be able to flash custom ROMs without fear of screwing up your phone.
You may also want to flash a stock firmware with RSD-Lite. (not the recovery!)
Some users have had issues with GPS not working until after you flash stock and then go to a custom ROM after getting a GPS fix on stock. I don't know if that is still necessary or not, but it's something to keep in mind.

I have tried to flash the latest CWM via the myth tool. I tried flashing as option 1, CWM and option 2, custom recovery. Neither has worked. I about to go crazy. What do I do here?

Just download the recovery file and boot you phone into boot loader, connect phone to PC... In cmd, type "fastboot flash recovery recover_name.img" without quotes and recovery_name being the name of your recovery file..

Just to clarify, do I download it to my cpu or phone? Where do I open cmd, in the folder on Windows for the phone?

Download it to your computer and open command prompt in the folder where both fastboot files and your downloaded recovery file is present...

Tried it this morning, still cannot get cwm to flash. This is very frustrating.

I've tried like 4 more times, using Myth and using command prmt, still only get the stock recovery. What am I not doing?

come on guys, I know somebody can help me here. I'm dying to get PA rom on this phone.

terminal will always work just remember your internal SD card is named sdcard0 and your external is named sdcard1.
