I have probably 90% of all the ROMS in the ROM Bible saved on my SD card/computer. I flash ROMS pretty much daily, because I really can't find anything stable enough to be a daily driver.
Whats the deal? I wipe caches, ext partition, everything between every flash. I feel like somethings wrong.
I usually run back to SuperE which is the most stable I've found, but I'm still yanking my battery out twice an hour.
I absolutely love my G1, but I hate how I have ALL this customization, you know?
When I can't even make a phone call, or text throughout the day, or my contacts aren't synced yet, it makes me pretty angry.
Help?
Hi, maybe a bit topic hijacking... but i was wondering.
You've mentioned you've tested 90% of all roms, the only version you can recommend is superE but this lacks some key features?
So ... does that meen default 1.6 would be best?

The only reason I like eclair ROMs better is because of the option to overclock to 576+ with their kernels.
If it were possible confused to OC to 576 I'd probably be using
CaNNoN202 Complete Eclairs ROM with that kernel.
But anyways.. maybe someone can help with my question?
Enomther has a great aosp 1.6 rom and i believe he is working on overclocking the kernel right now. U might keep up with that. Also has tethering and some extra vsapps u can grab with the rom. Good battery life and everything.

I have only ran Cyan from day 1 after rooting. It's all I know. I have high expectations in his next stable and will probably be complacent with that build.
However, with that said:
Anyone recently leave a Cyan build?
What did you go?
What did you think of it?
I might flash it, create a nandroid in case I want to mix it up a bit after cyans newest stable comes out.
I'd give one of the Hero roms a go. Some are almost as fast as Cyanogen's buils.
For real? Which ROM? Did you have a 96 partition?
Hey,
I have always had a nandroid backup to Cyans latest ROM, but have lately been trying Mlign or Kings latest hero's. For me they both work very, very well.
Im running a Class 6 4GB SD with 96mb swap.
Im always updating to the latest release, and there always seems to be something better on the horizon, im very interested in the Pulse if that gets some love I will be switching again.
Best thing you can do is keep your stable release as a backup and then flash away, try a few different builds and see what suits you best. Bare in mind that different settings seem to give varying results, but as a rule if a dev gives you reccomended swap size then you should not ignore that, it might seem a pain to re-partition your SD, but moving from a 32mb to 96mb swap made a huge difference for me.
hope this helps you.
i'm kinda in the same boat. I've been using cyan builds since I first rooted my phone and have been thinkin about tryin something diffrent. One of the things that has really detered me from tryin builds based on other devices is some of the basic functions not working in the past like bt or wifi, especially wifi! However after reading this I'm gonna give Kings rom a try while I wait to see what "tricks" cyan has in store for his stable release.
are there any recommedations for the HardSPL
cause i dont want to switch to the DangerSPL
im still at cm 4.0.4 and its a bit buggy at the moment, so i have to wipe and want to try another rom
Now I'm on cyanogen 4.1.9999 waiting for 4.2..... for me il the best rom...

I use two roms normally.. I run the CM6 nightlies for my froyo experience, and I run a hybrid of NFX and Liquid's modified Sprint Stock for sense..
I enjoy both experiences, just depends on the mood I'm in on a given day.
my device performs the best with stock 2.1 rom, rooted, bloat removed. for a lil extra zip, ill use an oc kernel at 691mhz. this is the way my device is the most responsive, although i occasionally find myself longing for the Bold keyboard
Hi everyone.
I'm sort of a beginner in this but still already flash some phones (g2, gravity, cliq, ...)
The hardest part for me now is to update this G1 that I have. It's a 32b devices
I've rooted, installed a new radio, dangerspl, spl-signed everything was a little bit confusing there for a while.
I've got Cyanogenmod 6 running on it. But I find it slow not so "stable" (it's working just feels very lagy with some fc). I'm guessing there's something missing.
What do you guys recommend for me to do so I can get a faster, updated rom on that phone?
Need some with at least android 2.1 on it
what partitions on sdcard? ext2 or ext3? pls advice
& have some patience with my request

Are you using setcpu to overlock your phone? If you're running a cyanogen rom or cyanogen based rom the overclock kernel is included, you just need setcpu from the market, or you can get it for free here on xda. It will allow you to overclock. If you are already overclocking, and you need a 2.1+ rom, I suppose you could try SuperE or SuperFly, they are fairly fast.

Personally I'd steer clear of Cyan roms until your more comfortable with setting things up, personally I don't use cyans but thats my choice.
I'd go with either EZterry's asop or the new enom 'official' that is out and has a few more configurable options. All the fun of the fair without the bloatware cm roms have and will ease you into the world of flashing
Relevant post, Gottijr, and thanks for responders. I got a G1 (with DMD64, 1.6 official tmob US latest upgrade) from fleabay for my daughter recently. I'm an experienced Winmo ROM modder/uploader/tweaker for years, but after many many hours of reading over the last few days I'm still a bit confused about what's really appropriate for this phone.
I've rooted so far, but can't seem to get a modified recovery image working ( likely due to dmd64 build?). Mainly curious what I should strive for in that I want primarily stability and app to SD since the internal memory is so limited. Not sure the Cyanogen mod is the right choice since I don't want daily use to require any tweaking. What would the experts recommend?
I don't want to hijack the thread here, but seems like a similar predicament.
Wipe?
With the newer CyanogenMod stuff I have found that wiping and reflashing the same ROM in recovery seems to help substantially on the FCs and lagginess.
I'm not sure why the full wipe / reflash works, but I suppose it has something to do with the inability to do a complete wipe. I haven't tried the new uber wipe that just came out, but I would be curious to see if that had better results as a starting point for a ROM install.
Also, I found I was happier on CyanogenMod with LauncherPlus over the included ADW Launcher. Though that was on the beta of 6.1 and I know the 6.1 stable has a newer version of ADW which might have addressed some of its annoyances.
I recommend setting up Titanium Backup for apps or using Droid Explorer to pull a backup of your ideal application environment. This will make swapping out ROMs quick for testing out what works for you.

For speed and stability its difficult to beat the SuperD 1.11 rom ....essentially a donut (1.6) rom stripped and then filled with 2.1 (eclair) goodness. Sweet.
Hi,
I want a really fast ROM that runs on gingerbread (2.3.3) - I don't care about the look or similar, I just need the speed. I hope someone can recommend me fast ROM.
CM7 or MIUI are very fast ROMs. I dont know if they are thee fastest, but i like the smoothness and responsiveness
However they are not completed, They are stable but still have a few minor bugs, as do lots of roms.
BUT there are many 2.3 Roms available in the development section so just do a little reading and see what tickles your fancy
Best to give them a try (for a week or so).
Many people's judgement at XDA is compromised because they run Quadrant, or they've hung around for so long that they get to know the developers and the popularity of certain ROM's. Even worse, very few people here have actually tested tested many roms in depth.
In fact, a ROM which may be faster for a certain game, may be slower for others, which is why you should give them a test yourself

And CM7 is experimental - no thanks.

It says I have to go back to Froyo. Also tried flashing it, and it couldn't find any networks, just says Error. Tried rebooting, wiping data, factory reset, flashing again - nothing.
you have to go back to froyo so you dont move to MIUI with the wrong bootloader.
MIUI is GingerBread 2.3.3 . it clearly states this in the first page.
So far I've tried Darkys, Juwe's and PilotX and Juwe's felt the fastest and I loved the battery life.
I don't think MIUI is fast, it got lots of UI enhancement anyway.
Miui And CM9 is a best roms and fastest

Hey,
Well it all depends on your definition of 'good'. What exactly are you looking for in a ROM? If it's speed and stability..I would definitely recommend Froyo By Laszlo. I used to always switch between ROMs but always ended up going back to Laszlo's!
FroSense Is also a 'good' ROM...but I personally didn't like it as much as Froyo By Laszlo.
Hope that helps a bit.. =)
Froyo by laszlo is definitely the best ROM.
It just seems...full, unlike all the other ROMs.
And its VERY fast, at least with my setup. Lovin' the swap!

Its in my sig
I find that the swap really does help.
I have a very good friend that need a phone
and old g1 that need some love.
I been using different roms / radios / etc.
I would recomend Frayo - Froyobylaszlo mod
is fast and nice and you still have many apps to install
and after a week of using I say not random reboots or f/c and stuff
As others have said, Froyobylaszlo. I've tried loads of roms and always go back to this one.
Its easy to install, and it works great. Only thing I've done is app2ext and change to ezgb-2636 v1.5.2f kernel for better battery life(hopefully).
At the end of the day, choice of rom depends on what you expect from a rom, and this gives me all I need.
Unlike everyone else, I personally liked Ginger yoshi the most. It was super fast for me, and also supported a lot of things that my phone couldn't do But the kernal that I have (don't remember if it was included or not, but I think it was) also got me from going through almost 3 full charges a day with minimal use to about 1 charge (with a good bit of gaming and other use). So that's my piece... but I can say that I haven't tried any of the aforementioned froyo ROMs.
Well you should
They're good

Which ROM?
Frayo or Froyobylaszlo?
On those this is how you fix that:
Go to Settings>Extra>User Interface>Tweaks Extra>Reset UI Tweaks
(you don't have to reboot)
And for the battery drain you should always calibrate your battery after flashing a new ROM or else it will show innacurate information
Charge the battery to 100% (maybe even an hour or two extra)
Restart into recovery and do wipe>battery stats
Reboot and your battery should be accurate
