Will rage thee cage method work now that my n1 us unlocked?
Is there a noobs guide to rage the cage? Also I haven't done much research on the radio. Would I need to download something for it? I'm lost as hell. THNKS FRG83
It will still work, but if you're unlocked it's pointless. Flash a custom recovery and use that in install a rooted update.zip (ChainsDD)

I flashed amon-ra's recovery and once I rebooted I got an android with a "!". The guide I used was on nexusonefourums. It said that if I got that symmbol that I was not rooted. I used modacos frf91 superboot to root. I was told it'd work. Apparently not.
O and now my wifi doesn't work at all. It just says error under settings-wireless.
Easiest way to see if you have root is to download a flashlight app from the market that requires root, and see if it works.
I always understood that the exclamation android guy was because you had stock recovery (I'm sure someone will correct me).

No need, you're spot on. Unless you remove a couple of files, the stock recovery is re-installed.
Thanks for that!

There is. "Root FRG33/83 without unlock" contains the thread with the explanation, and "SuperOneClick root app" is simple to use. Both in "Guides".
To the OP: Read the Wiki, for God's sake. The questions here come over and over again, and the interesting threads and questions all get lost in the maze of "how to root my phone". There's a guide for flashing recovery, read under "Recovery", and it says - "for unlocked bootloaders". That would save you the trouble of trying to root through rageagainstthecage method, because with unlocked bootloader you don't need any of that. There's also a guide, called "Flashing custom ROMs", at "Guides and Tutorials". That would cover everything you need.
N1 torch asked for super user permission and the full brightness is now working. It wouldnt work without root. So im rooted.... hate to ask it but.... now what? do amon-ra again?
Looking to add CyMod... and whats the deal on the updating my radio? do i need to? I hate being ignorant, but I gotta ask to learn.. Or I could brick my 500 dollar phone.
Pretty sure you're still on stock recovery, so yes, flash Amon Ra or Clockworkmod (if you're on an SLCD screen, only Amon 1.8 or 1.9 will work).
The wiki has instructions, or use Clockworkmod ROM Manager (but read the wiki either way).

Good heads up danger-rat. Downloads most recent radio and updated. I used rom manager and flashed most recent clockwork recovery. Now my next problem is getting cyanogenmod to download through Tom manager. It got 95% complete and said "rom download error. Google Apps: (outside link I can't post because of being a new member)" in my notifications.
Found a manual download site for gapps hdpi. Hopefully I can install it correctly

Keep getting 2.2.1 updates after root. How can this be stopped? Its annoying to keep rooting only to get the system updates again and again. I'm rooting with a signed fr91 file. Any way to stop this?

Upgrade to 2.2.1 frg83 then use the one click super root to root 2.2.1 you won't get the update any more u can find it in nexus wiki

Download 'Quick Boot' from the market and use it to reboot the phone. Then, clear the update notification from the notification menu. The update message should go away for a while (mine lasted a week before it came back).
I'm still somewhat hesitant to upgrade to FRG83 and use SuperOneClick since some people in the thread are reporting problems. I love my phone how it is right now!

Are you and Memnoch30 referring to the post you laid out in another thread? I'm pretty sure you wrote detailed instructions on how to do the manual rage root using adb. Will this method work fine if all I want is to run stock 2.2.1 with root-requiring apps like setcpu and move2sd enabler? Sorry for being such a noob

I just installed 2.2.1 and used the SuperOneClick method to root the phone again. I had to turn the phone off, run the program, and then boot the phone for it to work. I suggest you try this method. It couldn't be much simpler.
Now i keep getting the new firmware update message and i cant seem to turn it off even with the quickboot. Any ideas?
Install the update, root again. Now really, this "idea" is 1 message above yours - what made you post?
Hm i tried to update but failed, could be due to tampering of the build number that I did previously but after that it didn't bug me anymore, at least not for now. Will try the superoneclick one next time. Thanks.
It might be back in several days, but if you've tampered with the system and advanced the build number - it shouldn't appear anymore.
yeah i sure hope so. will know in a few days
Hi I just bought a nexus one and was a little confused and was looking for some help. I looked around and couldn't find a solid answer. I want to root my nexus one running frg83 update. I saw there's a 1-click method recently made by I forget who which is supposed to work with almost all phones, nexus one included. Once I use that to root the phone, can I just download a rom, like evils desire rom, rename it to update.zip, put it on my SD card and flash through normal recovery? Sorry if that's a dumb question. Any help would be great. Thanks.

You have to flash a custom recovery first.
Do u know which one works with this version of android? That ra one?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yes, you could use the amon ra or the clockwork mod. Your choice.
If it's a brand new Nexus One, it's probably SLCD, which means you can't use Clockwork until they make it compatible. The Amon recovery should work but it has to be 1.8 or up.
Also unless there's progress I'm unaware of, one click root won't work on this version. You'll have to follow the manual instructions for rageagainstthecage. And you can't use ROM Manager until Clockwork is fixed.

thanks for the help.. i used this to root and it worked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
clockwork mod flashed too. it was a used nexus but i had google send me a replacement. still amoled i'm pretty sure. it has the red tint to it and blacks are really black so i think it's still amoled. anyways, so once it's rooted and i have the recovery flashed, i can just flash a rom right? no need for sd partitions or whatever?

ok, so i'm new the the droid 1. i'm helping my brother in law because i have experience with incredibles and droid x's... i've been to every post on every forum i can find and have tried every option and none are working. he got it on craigslist with 2.1 still installed on it. i used universal androot first (which i don't normally do but the xda forum said that was the latest and easiest way to do i), it seemed to work, all the root apps were working. installed 2.2 frg22d from rom manager. lost root after that. universal androot won't work now (i realized it wasn't meant to after i read it everywhere) but it does still say i'm rooted. but, rom manager won't work, wireless tether, teamblackhat app won't work... etc. trying to flash using instructions on androidforums.com now BUT the the problem i'm having is, when i reboot to try and get into the bootloader, it pops up but after about 3-5 seconds it reboots into the os by itself. can anyone tell me what is going on? i've never had this much trouble with the inc or x and this is supposed to be easier to hack around with. thanks in advance...

go to the market, download titanium backup. use that to uninstall, unwanted bloat...you cannot use the native package installer/uninstaller to remove system apps.

Thanks all. I don't think it's going to matter since when I reboot into recovery I do not have the option to "flash zip from sd card". I got it rooted, installed rom manager and flashed clockwork but to no avail. This all seemed to go so smoothly when I did our eris phones.
I have his "wireless tether" working and was able to delete a ton of ATT bloatware but I think he's going to stuck with the stock ATT 2.2 ota rom.

Check out TRusello's signature "3e recovery fix" also after you boot into recovery from rom manager you have to "reinstall packages" twice, then you will see all the options...

you need to reinstall packages in recovery twice.
also you need the to fix 3e recovery before you can flash the cwm .zip.
look @ the stickies in the general section. there is a thread on working around 3e recovery. it contains a link to a batch script that'll fix it
there is also odin(tethered) that can replace the kernel with one that has cwm baked in
and sgs kernel flasher in the market that can do the same from the phone as long as it's rooted.

Part of the rooting process will do this and you will want in then end to get the .13d SPL and 2708 radio but you need to get to compatible radio and SPL first. I've only rooted one rogers dream so off the top off my head I can't tell you all the proper steps, not at a computer to link you easy either. Sigh the droid X download is broken, really sorry but what about the other method?
ok sop get your custom recovery from HERE make sure you get one with an "R"
now flash the 1.33.2005 bootloader, found a working link HERE
Once all is complete and confirmed good the follow THESE INSTRUCTIONS to fully update phone and allow for newest roms
The last section requires you to learn fastboot, there are ways not to, but your going to have to try first
Hey thanks alot I finally did it, hboot was updated but the radio didn't I flashed the one in ezterry's thread multiple times through recovery but it just didn't update still I flashed ezgingerbread so now its working.
bdw if its not to much trouble do you have a froyo rom that is similar to ezgingerbread? Which can run on any radio or hboot?
What is everything it says on bootloader screen now?

sending 'recovery' (4602 KB)...

writing 'recovery'...

I got the hang of fastboot thanks to you but this problem is wrecking my nerves.
There is an option in ROM manager to flash another recovery, never use ROM manager so can't attest to how well it works, my guess is you have a bad image your trying to download, personally I like amonra the best for the g1, I believe the version is like 1.7 and if you go to amonras thread you will get download link and md5sum to check
