[Q] Remove old bootanimation.zip? - Android Themes

Hey XDA ..
I've been recently changing my boot animation on my Legend, and I just wanted to know how to delete an old bootanimation.zip, after I copied a new one in? I'm using the "push" commando with cmd, which copies a new, and leaves the old one inside right?
So is there a "delete" or "replace" commando for use with cmd?
My Legend is unrooted with 2.1 (and I am still kinda noob at this)
Thanks!

Fail...
Okay I think I was wrong ! I think it actually did replace the old bootanimation.zip...

HELP!! Extracting and Repacking .cramfs files

ok well since i cant get an answer anywhere else what program will alow me to extract the framework pictures to theme the new JFv1.51 update? 7ZIP doesnt recognise the .cramfs files and was also wondering what to use to repack it. im sure Im not the only one that would appreciate this information. and if its been posted somewhere else im sorry for the repost.
google ".cramfs" theres alot of results
i did sir only thing that comes up is how its a huge process and blah blah blah dont worry im sure someone will help me thanx anyways
After looking into it, it looks like it can only be done in linux. I tried looking at doing it through windows but nothing came up, which sucks. Looks like I won't be upgrading to JF1.51. O well I have JF1.5 ADP running how I want it anyway

exact same thing that i found and everywhere i look makes it seem like its this overly complicated process and the 1.51 version is really gonna suck if someone doesnt find a way to make it easy to theme.
my 1.50 is also running awesome but unfortunately the problem is just like everything else in xda if you dont keep up you get left out and im kinda getting a little anxious because i feel like i always wanna have the new **** lol but yeah lets see what people figure out.
if nothing gets figured out with the JF build then maybe ill end up moving to another more easily customizable build let it be dudes or haykuros i dont know we'll see

if your on ADP 1.5, you should have no issue moving to JF151 and keeping the same theme made for JF1.5 (ADP1) (i had no issues).
as an aside,
in comparison to gloss theme template or stock theme template:
i noticed byte size differences in classes.dex and or resources.arsc in these system apps:
launcher.apk
maps.apk
mediauploader.apk
networklocation.apk
phone.apk
services.jar (classes.dex) had a byte size difference

So on the phone in /system/framework, it doesn't show the framework.cramfs? It shows the files that are supposed to actually be in the folder?
yep as an .apk , well I only used astro, but yes seems to be the case
this should explain why google changed it >>>>more space<<<

Google didn't change it, JF did. He compressed it to make room for all the things he added. He did this in a few other folders. But thanks this could be a long process but I'll try it out
Damm you JF ,lol, jk , see i didn't know that thought google did , but it did work as far as i know ,I had 83mb after fresh install and after running lucid script 87mb
good for space , bad for themes i guess
I'm still try to figure out how to extract what's in the cramfs image in linux. Anyone have any ideas? I wanted to see exactly how much space was saved
honestly i think it was too soon for 1.51 imo because here at wonderful XDA we have to hack and tear everything apart and make it custom and its comming down to where if it becomes too overly complicated to unpack and repack cramfs you might as well not have a rooted phone because its just like the regular us version except noone knows if the stereo bluetooth works on the JF version.
Im most def going back to jfv1.5 untill someone figures this out because i cant stand looking at that ugly ol factory white status bar and that checkered background.
either way from what i understand the only differences between the 1.5 and the 1.51 is just the that 1.51 has HQ youtube vids now and it doesn have multi-touch browser anymore

yea i just noticed that after going into the ota original version of 1.5. how bout we just erase the .Cramfs file and extract the framework folder from the original T-mo ota or from the JF V1.51 ADP. repack the JF v1.51U.S., sign it and flash it with that. then we'll be able to get to the framework-res.apk. let me know what ya think.

so in other words go through astro or use an unzipping tool that opens cramfs?
then copy your framework.res to the sdcard (using Astro) then copy to the desktop of your computer
Edit files, open archive, pack your framework.res then do what?

u would have to go to the terminal on ur phone:
type su
#mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
#cp /sdcard/download/framework-res.apk (or where you have your framework-res.apk file) /system/framework
#reboot
edit: if that doesnt work use #busybox cp /sdcard/download/framework-res.apk (or where you have you framework-res.apk file) /system/framework
im in linux and have all the files/programs install/needed to create a .cramfs and I can't find a way to decompress/open the .cramfs just how to create a new one. I have google and all my linux forums and nothing seems to be pulling up... Not fun but will still keep looking.
Through ADB you can pull the files off and then push them back on also... So you can resign it and then put it back. I just wish I had a way to do it with the update file I have on my PC so that I can add the programs/files that I want and have an update.zip for it. but heh this will work for now....

[Help] How to Get Bootscreen

So i found this but dont know how to get it to work on T-Mobile G1. If any one knows how, can you please help me ?
http://rapidshare.com/files/323951279/Nexus.Sound.rar
what are you asking how to edit the eclair bootanimation? or if you can add sound?
Oh, sorry. What im asking is if its possible to get the NexusOne bootscreen on T-Mobile G1 ? The files i provided are the NexusOne bootscreen files that a dude over at some other site put on the web. Though when i apply the files to my phone the way he said it doesnt work. Im wondering if any 1 knew how to get this working on G1 ?

Depends. I'm pretty sure those files are the x sparks that come together, these can only be used in an eclair rom.
bootanimations
you can get the nexus bootanimation or you can make your own. this post has some that i did. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623907
or just extract the zip and edit the images in the part0 folder. they must be .png and must be 320x480. make sure you rename your images to something like 00.png 01.png and so on. then using either winrar or 7zip select both the desc.txt file and the part0 folder and add the to an archive name it something like bootanimation.zip. make sure you set the compression to store. then connetct your phone to the computer and using adb push the zip to the media file in the system. the rest of the instructions are in the other post. this has worked every time for me. just when you want to change the images you must extract them and then make a new .zip or it wont work.
as for the sound i am looking for an answer to that question myself that is the one thing i havent been able to get to work yet.

Brand New Super Mario Custom Boot Animation

Hey there everyone. I've been working on this for a couple of days (since I'm pretty much an idiot with anything beyond web surfing), but with the help of some forum members and various other how-to guides, I figured it out. I split it up into individual frames, picked out the ones I wanted, converted them to JPGs, renamed them, and rewrote the desc.txt file. I can write a more detailed how-to since most of the things online are more about how to change the animation than how to create one. Just ask, and I'll put it up later. It's a short clip from a Youtube video of the trailer for Super Mario Galaxy 2. And without further ado:
-Here is a mirror, since someone posted at androidforums that there was a tracer of some sort. I've no idea what that means, but thought I would offer another downloading solution so people could go that route if necessary.
http://rapidshare.com/files/395413639/bootanimation.zip
*Now down to a slim and trim fighting weight of 1.68MB. Just a bit better than my original file with super huge PNGs that was 21.1MB. heh
Feel free to use it as you wish. Just say thanks or something. Enjoy!
Now with more preview!
GIFSoup
PS. Mine runs and looks better, but at least this will give you an idea before you download.
If you ever need help let me know. Even if I am a Hero user. I am a Photoshop professional and have made many boot screens. Downloading yours now.

Appreciate that good sir. I'd love to learn photoshop sometime but to the uninitiated, it seems very daunting. I do have GIMP, but haven't really messed with it too often besides resizing some wallpapers. I enjoyed learning how to do this though, and feel that each new thing I figure out, the more inclined I am to try something else. Anyway, let me know what you think of it...
Hey nice looking boot. I downloaded the file to the sd card of my eris and tried to flash it but it wouldnt load it aborted. Am I missing something here on how to install. Thanks
Thanks man! If you are rooted then it is super easy. Just install to SD card, then use something like Root Explorer(I think Astro should be able to do this too) to move it into the data/local folder. Also, you can put it into the system/media folder. I haven't found any difference on how it runs whichever way you want to go. If you aren't rooted yet (what are you waiting for?? lol j/k) then you have to download SDK and push it into the data/local folder since you won't have access to the system/media one. There are a couple of tutorials floating around to give you some better direction or if you are still having trouble, then PM me and I'll see if I can't direct you better so we don't fill up the regular post.
Looks pretty good, probably good thing ya got filesize down .

Thanks Magnum. It took me awhile to figure out how to shrink the original PNGs I made from 21.1 to 10.2MB, and then another forum member showed me that I could use JPGs and then it went from 10.2 to the current 1.68. Very happy with the results. Getting some help with including the audio, then it'll really be sweet.
I tried moving this into system/media folder where my other boot animation is but I got permissions not allowed. Ive got read only permissions on my bootanimation using taintedvanilla. Any suggestions?

I'm not overly familiar with that Rom, but I would suggest using Root Explorer. It's an awesome app. I don't have any issues changing to Read/Write with it. I just mount the zip on the SD card then long press, choose move and paste it into the appropriate folder. I found it worked best for me to delete the first boot animation instead of just replacing it (results may vary). If you don't want to go that route then you might want to use SDK and push it into the data/local folder. I know that either folder will work for the boot, but not sure which folder it reads first so can't be certain this will be the answer if you can't delete the other boot animation that is already installed. Let me know if this works for you...
this is awesome thanks bunches
You're very welcome. I have a Mario boot screen picture too that kind of goes with the animation. PM if you're interested. If so, let me know if you need help installing it. There is a guide and it's pretty easy, but just in case.

It's still allowing read only permissions. I adb pushed the bootanimation.zip into both system/media and data/local but it still boots with the old animation. Oh well I guess...

You might want to try this (if you havn't already) to fix the read only permissions...
Code:
adb remount
then...
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
I've done that, I'll just have to play with it more when I have time. Does adb push overwrite the existing file on the phone if the are named the same?

Pretty sure it does, if your getting somthing like permission denied read only after trying to push, it probably isn't going through. Wouldn't think you'd get the read only pushing to data/local though.

[THE] Espresso Bios Boot Animation!

First off, im not posting this for any kind of credit i just want to share it...i got the original bios boot from here...all i did was change the word Sapphire to Espresso...
since it goes in /data you dont have to reboot into recovery, just plug in usb and
Code:
adb push {path/to}/bootanimation.zip /data/local
when its done,
Code:
adb reboot
unplug and...
Enjoy!

How do we back up the old/stock one?
If you have the stock mytouch slide one, you don't have to because its a .gif in /system/customize/resource/ and it won't be overwritten or messed with at all...
If you have another bootanimation in .zip format and you wanna back it up just
Code:
adb pull /data/local/bootanimation.zip /path/to/wherever/

I have a tutorial and explanation here.

The data local bootanimation.zip. It is a user defined animation that can be accessed on both root and unrooted devices. The animation in system is only accessable with root and will act as a default fall back if nothing is in local.

Ahh I understand now .. so lets say I install this one in data/local.. then later want the stock stuff back I just delete this from /data/local and the stock one will start coming up again from /system/media
that is correct! well actually the STOCK one is in /system/customize/resource/ and its something like mytough_v8_final.gif or something like that...
so even if you push it to /system/media the stock one will still be untouched in its directory, itll just get overridden by the new one.
but yeah...

First things first i have a rooted Samsung Continuum, And i want to change my boot screen and since i dont have a recovery option right now i cant flash anything.
So i have to place the boot animation zip on the phone, Well heres the problem i cant find where im suppose to place the file?? Any help would be great.

You should ask this in the correct area for your phone. I have no knowledge of any other phones but Magic.
Still, see if this helps. When I change my boot animation I put it to system/media/bootanimation.zip.
Why can't you get to recovery?
I checked there i couldnt find anything.
There is no recovery for my phone yet.
Yeah ill ask in the correct forums.
It's either /system/media, /system/customize/resource or /data/local, or more than one of them.
1st off I love how you bump your own thread lol.
2nd, If you phone is rooted install 'root explorer' or simular and search for bootanimation.zip, this will show you where your current animation is stored.
3rd. Remember the directory & copy the bootanimation.zip you want into that folder & overwrite, reboot.
4th. Hope that helps, enjoy !
Try to push it to /data/local/ with adb.
