[Q] How to get push-notifications? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone here know how to get push-notifications for Facebook? I'm an former iPhone user and i liked the push-notifications it had, but i am wondering can you get push-notifications on Galaxy S. Thanks.

Yeah i would like to know this also

But in the iPhone is it not the application itself doing the notifications?!? I never had an iPhone so that's why I am asking. Because if is so, then the developers who are building the application for Android should implement this option..

anyone here know where the app is or does it work for nexus???
they are developing it right now. i've tried it with other apks from 2.2 but it looks like no video calling from the nexus s. even with another galaxy s apk like the epic. guess we're just gonna have to wait.
Any other video chat option for Nexus s?
Hi
I am the one of developers in this company but not in mobile section.
OoVoo work fine with Froyo 2.2 on Nexus One in this time. If you run 2.2, you can find it on Market.
For 2.3... it will be released in a few weeks.
To use it on back camera just go to settings of ooVoo and uncheck front camera as default.
We all work hard to develop this application. Just wait few week and you patience will be awarded
Great app guys! Keep on the good work!

[Q] Leaked Skype (video calling)

Anyone in the know care to look at the leaked skype apk to get it to work on the galaxy tab?
Installation currently fails and it seems to only work on HTC phones but there must be a way to get it to work on the tab right?
some guys are looking to modify the leaked apk to be able to use it on other devices, but there is nothing working yet.
Here is the xda thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1031944
I think someone needs to make something like this a sticky I answered 4 threads in the past week with people asking this question.
Well i saw a chery tab brand of china and its using android os. And it has a skype application with video call.

[Q] Nexus S Phone App Replacement?

I've noticed the phone/contact apps seems a little buggy on my friends Nexus S (2.3.4),
Is there some way to give my friend the phone app from my SGS2? Has anyone done this? Would it work? Would it be better or worse or?
Or does anyone have any alternative recommendations?
Well TouchPal it's great.

[Q] Sky Go on ICS?

Basically,
Sky Go came out today and it says that the Galaxy is is supported. But, when I try to load it up, it says your device is not supported and I take it that it's saying that because I've got AOKP ICS on there.
Would anyone know a way of fixing this?
Thankssss
Send them an email mentioning this

The resolution is fine after a minute or so.
Current problem appears to be that no other channel other than Sky news works, possibly because it is non encrypted.
Possible issue caused by rooted phones not being supported but that is a little unclear as people with unrooted phones are also experiencing the same issues, ie, the app is sticking at the buffering screen and shows no pictures.
Apart from that, its fantastic
I see there is a discussion going on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22781731
They talk about apps that temporarily revoke root access to the phone to trick the Sky Go app into thinking you have a stock ROM. Sounds like too much effort for one app tbh, but I thought I'd share in case you hadn't seen it!

Facebook is horrible on JB/N7...missing features?

Good afternoon XDA!
Having received my N7 yesterday, I didn't get to play with it too much until later on at night. One of the first things I noticed was that the Facebook app on the device is missing many of the main features. I'm not sure if it's a JellyBean issue (as my Galaxy Nexus is CDMA and I haven't modded it to JB yet) or a N7 issue, but there's no way to see someone's Pictures, Info, or Favorites. What I mean is that if you go to someone's profile the only thing visible is their Wall. There's no way to go into the other sections of someone's profile. The only way to see their pictures is if they post them on their walls.
Anyone else notice this? For those that have, if you also have JellyBean on another device does it do it there, as well? I just have no way of knowing if this is a JB issue or a device-specific issue. I can't seem to find any other complaints, which I'm a bit confused by...I understand that this device is extremely new, but a *vast* majority of Android users also spend quite a bit of time on Facebook, so I'd be surprised if nobody had run into this issue before me (or at least made comments on it).
Post thoughts and maybe we can narrow it down!
I'm seeing the same issue. I've heard good things about Friendcaster as a superior replacement so I'd try that.
Friendcaster is a good alternative and in many ways superior to the Facebook app - you can have multiple log ins/accounts and much more responsive than facebook

I have both the Galaxy Nexus on JB and the N7, I can definitely confirm that the FB app is lacking on the N7 especially when going into peoples profiles. However on the Galaxy Nexus it has every single feature that it had on GB and ICS. No idea what the deal is with the N7 version of the app.
Facebook app isn't set up for tablets on JB as far as I'm aware. Give them a bit to update the app and we will see.
No your wrong, its not the fact its a tablet on jelly bean, its the fact its a tablet.
My transformer prime has the exact same problem and its on ics

Friendcaster is light years ahead of FB app. Try it for free then get the ad free version. You'll thank me.

Just my 2 cents, but FB apps in general on all devices are poorly optimized. One of the few things i'd rather view with a browser.
FB for Phone on Tablet
Is there a way to install the FB app that runs on smartphones on the N7?

That's what you have installed. The app adjusts itself based on being on a tablet or phone.

You can't interact with people that disable third party access on FB when using Friend caster. Just a heads up.

Is there any difference between the Pro version and the Free, other than ads? $5 is not worth it for me for ads...
The Facebook app is terribad on every platform, and every form factor. Just don't bother using it.
