Hey all,
one thing i am really missing, is the ability to have an app (maybe spare parts) or whatever, that allows me to hide apps from the app drawer (and only there).
Like when i download a free app, and have another extra app, that functions as license key, i want to have the opportunity to hide it from the app drawer, so that i dont see it anymore....
hope i was able to describe what i mean
=)

One way is to decompile and edit the manifest to not show the launcher icon. Not the best solution though.
What would be REALLY cool is a root app that can change the properties for installed apps.

Exaxtly what i meant...an app, with that you can set every other app to vissible or not!
Actually... there's been a recent message about this somewhere, some launcher dev, perhaps it was even cyanogen refering to his older (launcher2) launcher before ADW came along... might have been somewhere else.
Yes, the problem with a root app, which I looked into developing ages ago actually (to do exactly this, and only this really) still can't remove the required entries from androidmanifest.xml without stuffing up the signature. The app then won't get approved by android at all. This particular xml file is sensitive because it contains permission information. This is where I ran out of ideas for a standalone app.
However, the correct way to do it is via a launcher that reads what it needs to display from a different database, which is entirely feasible and not even difficult really. This would give additional benefits like the easier and more elegant ability to support custom launcher icons, adding custom shortcuts to the launcher, reordering the launcher...
The rate LauncherPro and ADW are going one of them will have it sooner rather than later.
dxtop home actually has the ability to do this...but I love ADW too much to go back
Yea....i dont want to leave my launchers as well,
exactly that is the reason for me, to ask for an extra app that does the job.

As I said, it can't be done in a different app, it must be done in the launcher.
There are separate apps out there that hide things from the launcher but they do completely disable the app whilst they're doing it.
Are you able to extend AWD for that option?

Pure speculation on my part, you'll need to hit up one of the launcher devs...
Anybody have the apk for fancy widget?
Yes, I do. I'm not at home right now, and I'm not sure when I will be home. I'm on a short vacation and the apk file is on my desktop computer at home. I found it on the internet if you want to look for it, or you can wait until I get back home (which will be Monday morning--I think).
I tried searching for it on google, but I think all of sites were forced to take it down due to HTC's C&D.
I love the look of Fancy Widget, but I'm constantly having a problem with the time not updating. The task is not being killed since it's on my task killer's ignore list. It seems to happen at random times...sometimes while the phone is in standby, other times while in use. Is there a solution for this?

It's funny you say that because BW has always worked perfectly for me, and for that reason I switched back to it. That's fine with me because I just saw a skin I really like, and I e-mailed the dev to see if he could modify it slightly. He cooperated and now BW looks very very close to the Sense look (other than the weather icon being on the right rather than centered).
This is the best HTC Sense-like clock. It looks even better than Weather Widget with h7c skin, but has this strange update issue, when I have to wait sometimes for clock to update.
BTW It shows us how Market is NOT open and without control . It's better than AppStore and we can always use *.apk, but it's sad that if some app isn't good for hTC for example, they simply delete it.
It wasn't deleted, HTC asked the developer to take it down I beleive. It was taken down by their choice from what I read, and probably a good idea. It was so similar to the HTC one, I'm sure they have rights on it

The Market never claimed to be open or without control, its just a heck of a lot less demanding/strict than the app store... The underlying code for Android is open but anything that manufacturers or devs add to the code itself (IE: Sense UI, Motoblur etc...) along with the apps on the market, are proprietary and therefore NOT open (unless otherwise stated).
no weather info is displayed on v1.2.4
How do you check if there is no virus or malware (calling international numbers i.e.) in any of these files? Is there any other way to check this, besides blind trust?

Should say in manifest (request privileges) if it can make phone calls -- which this app only asks for GPS & Internet access.

It's posted in the G1 forum. What makes you think it wouldn't? I personally had an issue with the time freezing constantly, but others haven't reported the same thing.

Been digging online and through the forums with no luck...can somone post up the old version of Fancy Widget??
Nevermind...guess they don't allow it on here. If anyone can PM me it, that'd be awesome...
anyone know if HTC IQAgent apk/odex is safe to remove?
thank you thank you
eidt: i searched google and couldnt really find a definitive answer.
remove world clock or desk clock and maintain alarm?
alright, after a few more seconds of research, i believe it should stay.
next question, i dont use the desk clock but sometimes i use my phone to set an alarm.
can i remove the world clock and maintain the desk clock and alarm? or can i remove the world clock and still have the desk clock and alarm functionality?
im just removing things... thank you thank you
edit: also gtalkservice. safe to remove? im figuring not.

Only way to know is to try, right? Nandroid first, of course. I think all the clocks are inter-related somehow on a Sense ROM, so my guess is that removing any one of the clock or alarm apk's will kinda break them all. But I've never actually tried it myself to know for 100% sure.
EDIT: I think you CAN safely remove the HTC clock widget, but why would you want to? I assume most people use the clock in its widget form on a home screen.

Many times when you try to remove Google things from your phone (ones that were already included with a ROM like gtalk), your access/login to the Market can break. Not always, but it does happen enough that most people typically don't mess with the included Google stuff.

i left the gtalkservice. i deleted google talk, nothing seemed to be affected. i dont use any widgets, i deleted those on day one. maybe ill try deleting the clock...
thanks
I deleted my WorldClock.apk no problem. I actually prefer the AOSP eclair clock and alarm clock better. Also yes, you can delete google talk, just don't delete the service. If you delete the service, it will break your Android market

hello.
do yall think itd be safe to remove the standard(stock) Internet app that comes with the phone? I use opera mini atm and soon ill be using fennec. could there be any adverse affects? the only thing i could see changing would be that the phone wouldnt question me as to which browser to use...(i dont like setting defaults. prefer one app to do a job)
thank you thank you
edit: removed... with no issues(so far)
It looks like a security researcher found out the use for this app.
Try searching this in Google: "Carrier IQ: Researcher Trevor Eckhart Outs Creepy, Hidden App Installed On Smartphones"
Essentially, it records every website you view, and every key you press on your Android phone. Even if you are on SSL, on WiFi.
I know that the lock screens can be replaced with AOSP. But what I have been looking around for is the option to use the stock puzzle lock and remove glass lock with AOSP.
I know I can always use an app like widget locker but would prefer it to be a system change instead of an app that runs.
All of the lock screen edits I have seen so far completely replace the Puzzle/Glass lock. But not replace just one of them.
If anyone knows how I can do this myself or get me started to be able to do this I am up for the challenge. Or if it already exists please point me in the right direction. I have done a lot of reading and searching already.
Thank you in advance.
I would be interested in knowing this as well. I wouldn't mind having the AOSP lock, but would definitely want to keep the puzzle.
It is possible to make edits to have the system offer multiple lockscreens...however its a pretty involved string of edits....I know thatdudebutch has/is trying it....but its significantly more involved than our normal method of switching them
Wonder if i could just start with modifying the images to be the same as the AOSP lock screen. test and then go from there. i am going to take a look tonight if i can and see what is involved with it. Thanks for the info nitsuj17.

the images are all in the framework. Thats not the issue. However edits have to be made to the android.policy.jar to switch lockscreens and id assume to support multiple ones as well as edits the framework itself.
a few people in irc are attempting to do something like this, as it is possible...just we've all been unsuccessful to this point.
i was doing some research and found a user had done this on his vibrant. I found the post on the team whiskey forums. Would it help to look over his code to see what was modified or would his android.policy.jar be completely different cause it is technically a different phone?

the edits are usually the same, but occasionally in different places....you would have to compare apples to apples so you d need an edited android.policy.jar and a stock one from the rom
ok cool. i downloaded his theme/rom and will try to compare. I am not very familiar with modifying .jar files so this will be new ground for me. I know about editing the images in the framework file, thats the simple part.
This would be a nice option, I actually started on this back on DJ09. Then froyo came and I started again on that. My goal was to offer the puzzle lock, android lock, rotary lock and the glass lock.
Actually some of those changes were slowly being made to the NeonGT theme port. I believe both the dl09 and dl30 versions. I don't remember how far I got, but feel free to pull the files and take a look.
posting in support of this concept! I like the puzzle lock but not the glass screen
it would be nice indeed
How about keeping both and adding 2 more?

Awesome. I saw this on a theme from another phone i was looking at and am very happy this was ported over to our phone!
Hi all I have just upgraded to Sense 6 and it seems HTC have removed the live wallpaper that lets you select multiple pictures from the gallery. I loved that wallpaper, is anyone else seeing the same or could someone upload the wallpaper I am referring to?
Thanks.
Yes, it's not there. I still have the old 5.5 ROM backup tough (I used it to restore old Notification sounds) so if you can tell me the name, I can upload it for you.

It is called HTCImageWallpaper.apk - unfortunately it does not work with Sense 6. Probably missing some other resources, so it needs porting.
But just in case, there is the .apk - it can not be installed, bust be placed manually to /system/priv-app

Thanks for the apk. It sucks that it doesn't work, I wouldn't know how to port it so I'm off to play store to find an alternative
Did you find a good alternative? From what I can see, it looks like most of the play store options have some kind of fatal flaw

What features did the HTC one have that put it in such high favor? I've been looking for a good slideshow WP app for a while. These are the best I've found:
Landscape Wallpaper - Good settings. Separate WP for lockscreen. Offers wallpaper scrolling, if desired (good when launcher doesn't support.) Can't choose to update on wake (only time limit), however seems to update on wake after timespan has elapsed.
Wallpaper Changer - Best options for gallery selection. Let's you choose and save custom albums, mixed of folders and individual pics. Can't modify albums. Seems quirky.
MultiPicture Live Wallpaper - Simple, works great. Can set to update with screen awake or even double tap. Supports web albums.

What I liked was the slow pan across each wallpaper before it faded to the next one.
I had a set of wallpapers with the same colours but different designs and it would switch to one, pan across, then fade to the next and pan across... I think the choice of panning left or right was random. It was just a nice behaviour that wasn't distracting but added a little interest, and the fade meant there was no jarring switch from one wallpaper to the next. Also it seemed to have no effect on battery usage,
