I'm not sure if this is the same as the well known "Nexus One 3G problem". I'm running CyanogenMod 6. I have been having occasional trouble on my home carrier (WIND Mobile Canada) where every once in a while, even though the 3G or H icon appears, I can't access anything and when I try the ping test under Testing/Phone information it fails.
The only way I'm able to get the Internet back is to disable mobile data (via widget) and re-enable. Then it lasts again for a while.
I'm currently on vacation in the US and using a T-Mobile SIM. It seems this problem is even worse on their network. Sometimes I only get maybe 2-5 minutes of a 3G connection before it freezes out like this. I've been leaving it on EDGE just to keep it stable, but this is obviously not an ideal solution.
About two weeks ago I started trying nightly builds of CM6 as I was interested in the FM Radio, and I have noticed this issue much more since then. It might be related, but it could also be a coincidence, and I don't want to start messing around with multiple ROM flashes while on vacation if that's not the problem in the first place. Any ideas on what to do?
Thanks
Charles
its a bug with 2.2.1,my nexus does this too. it will get stuck with the data up arrow lit up when the data stops working, turning data off and back on fixes it. there is even a post in the google bug tracker about it. I know for sure it happens in both FRG83 and FRF91,but I'm not sure exactly when it started. 2.1 roms for the N1 don't do it,and my g1 doesnt on 1.0-2.1,but on froyo roms it does exactly the same thing as the nexus.
I hope someone (google or a dev) can fix this, because its really annoying. my g1 is back to donut because its faster, and I'm considering going back to a 2.1 rom on the N1. I've confirmed the issue on ChromaticDream (g1),CM Nightlies (I've tried 198,200,201,202,203,220),CM6.0.0,Enomther's TheOfficialNexus (10/11/10),and a few others.
I thought I was the only one who noticed this bug. Does it occur in the stock (non-rooted) versions of 2.2.1 as well?
Just an update, although I do periodically experience this on my home provider (WIND Mobile Canada), it turns out that T-Mobile is having 3G issues in Portland this exact week and everyone's experiencing it. So the fact that 3G is nearly unusable on my trip is TMo's fault and not Android's.
UPDATE: I downgraded my radio to the official froyo radio (4.0-something lol) and my timeout problems are no more so far....
I have the same problem but with since I'm using nightlies 215 the problem is gone (i'm using 508 radio)
but lately I'm using nightlies 221 and 223 and the problem is back
I settled on 204 for vacation because I didn't want to fiddle with the ROM 10 hours away from my desktop comp! Now that I'm home, keep this thread updated with which builds seem to have a stable 3G connection.
I just flashed 225 with 512 radio and I can say this build is stable, no more intermittent connection lost. 225 nightlies is fast as well
Good to know. I'm on the 5.08 radio; is there a significant difference with 5.12?

ok I have been having 3G isssue on my nexus one 850 model, it shows thats I have full 3g signal but 3g hangs alot, and get data network error message, mine is unlocked and rooted and running Poul's FRF83 rom, I wanted to try different radios, can some one direct me what is best radio for att and from to get it, thanks guys for time
There is only one Froyo-compatible radio. The older ones will give you a few issues if used with Froyo as far as I know.
Radio working fine here. Try a clean ROM.
I think i have been having similar issues, flashed back to my stock recovery and stock images and ran the update from the google ota updates.
it just seems like it takes a bit for it to browse, sometimes when i run the fcc speedtest app it reports nothing for downstream and 1.5mb for upstream
was thinking it was just my area but not sure
Same here. Seemed to happen with Froyo 72. It is just the one tower that I've experienced this. When I'm at work my data keeps getting hung up. It will pause sometimes for 2 minutes before I get a socket and then it goes just fine. Away from work, any other area I don't have the problem. Got two iPhone users here on AT&T that are not having their data hang.
Speedtest.net results: DL: 11kbps, UL: 1467kbps
I did a complete wipe for FRF85B and installed the blackbar version of Geo411m's 85b: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714184
hi guys, ive flashed a couple of different froyo roms and decided to stick to FroyoRedux 1.5
reason for all this reflashing.......when using 3G networks i randomly get no signal for about 2 minutes and then its back again. im not too sure why this is happening and wondering if anyone else encountered the same problem?
there seems to be no problem with 2G networks but being on 2G is lame and makes mobile internet kinda pointless.
BTW problem still persists in FroyoRedux 1.5
phone specs are in the sig (if you wanna know what im using)
cheers!
Had this issue on my kaiser running froyo also, went to an older radio which fixed it, and amazingly enough, the same happened on my G1, and the same step fixed it.
Using radio 2.22.23.02 I had regular 'no signal' issues, going back to 2.22.19.26I solved it for me, I still get signal loss on occasion, but only in known very low signal areas,
hmmm interesting, im gunna give this a try and see what the outcome is.
did u just flash the old radio file over your current one or did you use a specific procedure?
So I've been messing around with more roms lately trying to find one that has all the features I like and that are easy to use. I am on the latest clockwork recovery through rom manager. I was on the korean radio 5.08? and flashed around with superhybrid, miui bundle, desire hd, rodriguez miui. and an oc-kernel for 1152mhz? something like that.
My phone just won't connect to the data connection no more, on any of the rom. i tried changing my APN to a couple. I tried switching back to my usual rom, I tried upgrading to the radio to the latest korean radio of 5.12. I was able to get edge connection for a brief moment, but it barely works. When I say brief i mean like 2 minutes then there goes my edge connection....
I'm hoping this is network side in this general area only, but is there a possible problem on my phone? any solution if it is?
I would try it out at different part of town that you usually get 3G.
If it's like that all the times everywhere than it might be the phone but I doubt it.
I had the same problems for about 2 weeks here at work (everywhere else it work fine). Tmobile must have fixed the tower cause it's working fine now at work also.
Hi there,
I have been having an annoying issue with my Nexus One. The issue is, that I am forced to reboot the device a few times each day, because it loses signal, and cannot re-register to a cell network.
I first experienced the problem on Cyanogenmod 6.0.0 stable. I have since experienced the issue on CM 6.0.1, 6.1.0, 6.1.1, CM7 RC1. The issue got so bad that I went back to stock Froyo 2.2 and lastly, am now on stock gingerbread. I am still getting the issue so it is not an issue with cyanogen.
Also, i've noticed that the issue will mainly rear it's ugly head when i'm in the office, where reception is quite scarce (usually 1 bar of reception or below.) However, when i go outside or to a full reception area, it still can't register to a network.
I have the latest radio, too. Does anyone have a suggestions?
Regards,
rnodern

I have been having intermittent signal problems on my phone for several months now and it's extremely frustrating. I've read through quite a few threads trying to find a similar problem, but nothing seems to provide a solution. So here goes my feeble attempt to explain what's going on...
For starters, I am in Canada on the Telus network. The phone works fine when I am traveling between places but doesn't work at all whenever I am at work or at home. Other places seem to knock it out as well. It hasn't worked at work since I started having the connection problems back in February or March. The same goes for at home. Anytime I am in between the two, which is a five minute drive I can switch the airplane mode on and off and it will usually connect to the network. When the Network drops, I still have signal bars, but get the "emergency calls only" instead.
I am running CM 7.0.3, and have updated the radio to 5.08.00.04 as well as 5.12.00.08 both did not to anything(I am now back on .08). I was on CM 6.1 when the problems started, and have been updating through the release candidates up to the latest stable CM still with no luck on figuring out what is causing the problem. I have done full wipes, as well as installed different ROMs trying to find what's causing this.
Could the SIM card be the culprit? Even if it seems to work fine some of the time?
I'm completely out of ideas, and sick of not being able to use my phone, as an actual phone, while I'm at home or at work. Any suggestions or ideas/questions is appreciated to figuring out what is going on, I'll answer the questions as best I can.
Thanks,
Chad
I'm having the exact same problem as you: only "Emergency Calls" at places with thick walls (is that well said?), where I used to have good reception and where others (with same company) have a pretty decent signal. I really don't recall when this started, but also does occur with all radios and kernels I've tested so far.
I'm currently running CM 7.0.3 with radio 5.12.00.08 and kernel redstar 2.6.38.7-CFS.
Me three. I think its something to do with cyan 7 because its been since I went onto it that signals not been what it used to. Perma emergency only in my halls.
