My wireless router is a dual-band model that supports both 802.11g and 802.11n at the same time. It seems as though the Captivate won't even acknowledge the 'n' network unless the 'g' network is disabled. Anyone know if/how the captivate can be configured to look for my 'n' network first?
Thanks,
Corey

I am having problem accessing my internet connection through my wireless router. Everytime, i tried to connect my G1 to my SSID, it says obtaining IP address then it says unsuccessful. My wireless router is a LinkSys 802.11N with WPA encryption. I did some research and the G1 only accepts 802.11b/g routers? Is that true?
that could be true since it runs on 3G network... just go buy a new routher. i use my FiOS and there is 802.11g router
A N router should be able to trasmit to G adapters. At least thats how it is with linksys routers. No need to even go get a new router . Look under the settings and see if its just broadcasting N or if can Do N and G.
Had this problem. Change your security to WPA2 Personal Only, not WPA1. Should fix it.

Thats what I had to do. Please specify more information on what ROM your using. Different ROM's have different Wifi drivers
Has the wifi n feature been implemented in any of the roms (such as r19/20/21 or cyanogen) since Google released the source code for 2.2? Some are saying that it is already active for them. Anyone have info on this?
Well just check the transfer rate from your PC
as soon as i get a router that supports n. Is there a way to tell from the handset itself if n is enabled?
I'm not sure how to check from the handset directly, however you could always select only the N band of wireless from the router instead of broadcasting them all. If the Nexus picks it up, then its N.
i too would like to know if N is available in any of CM roms. I have a Dual-Band N+G linksys router but for some reason i'm not able to connect to my N band.
mine has been working since CM5.0.7 since ive noticed

It only does 2.4Ghz 802.11n not 5Ghz 802.11n which is were the real advantage of 802.11n comes from. I actually tested it pretty throughly with my WRT350N router with DD-WRT firmware and I was able to achieve better speeds with 802.11g than I was with 802.11n with very little other wireless traffic in the area.

No wonder i couldn't get it to work! Thanks.
N has been working for me since the first leaked froyo update. I only set my router to broadcast N only
Like stated before, the wifi chip in the N1 is 2.4 GHz only. It is not a dual band receiver. So if have a dual band router that is transmitting a 5Ghz signal your N1 will not see it. This is actually kind of common with N devices (DVD players, TVs, Adapter Dongles) in the past year or so, most of them are 2.4 GHz only which really defeats the whole purpose of having N in the first place.
Doesn't n supposedly have wider range?
i answered my own question. did *#*#4636#*#* and under "wifi status" it says "Link Speed: 72Mbps" so it is enabled
Has anybody had any success with this? I have a wireless N router and just got a wireless N repeater in my home.
My captivate will connect just fine to the network when the repeater is unplugged. However, when I plug in the repeater my phone's wifi connection starts to act funny. I connect to the wifi and have a very strong signal, but I am unable to do anything on the internet. Web pages won't load, Pandora won't connect.
Long story short, the phone sees the network, but it doesn't know whether to communicate with my router or my repeater.
All other wireless devices on my network seem to work fine with the repeater, it's just my Captivate that is having this problem. I have no other phones to test it with, though.
Are you running stock? I seem to recall it having an issue with netmasks that weren't 255.255.255.0. You may want to check netmask in both the router's settings and the phone's Wi-Fi settings to ensure they match.
Is your NAT filtering turned off on both devices ?
Thanks! I'll look into both of these options when I get home tonight.
I'm not running stock, I'm running Cognition v2.3b6, btw.
I got a SGS GT-I9000 from my friend, not a tech person, was still running the stock 2.1 firmware. At work I use a NETGEAR router and couldn't find the wireless network. Checked the router's wireless settings and all was well, broadcasting SSID, access point enabled and using available channels, and had an iPhone connected to it. Upgraded to GB XXJVU and still cannot find the network! The scans return a bunch of other networks in the area but not the one I need to connect to. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?
I can't get my college's network to show up on my watch's list of wifi networks. Is there a hack or something that can be done to enable WPA2 support for the watch? The network is on the 2.4 GHz frequency.
