Flashing to Diff ROM and Tzones

okay i have the wing with Tzones with the proxy settings and i cant seem to get to any websites lyk google etc...none of my IM programs work even with changin tha port to 110...funny thing is "www.yahoo.com" works nd loads up but when if i click any links from there it says the same when i try to access any other websites " Error requested conent cannon be accessed. you do not have access to the site."umm yea so ive posted a bunch on HOward Forums but no one can seem to help me out on mayb what givs with this whole problem...i was wondering mayb if i flashed to a new ROM would it make a difference....any help is apprcieated.....thanks guys
Are you using 216.155.165.50:8080?
If so, then that's strange... unless t-mobile closed the hole in your area...
Either way, a third party ROM is always a good thing... unless you have the patience to go around and properly cleaning the wing ROM. (The WING ROM isn't that bad, it's just badly cluttered. My clean ROM is based on it.)
I went through a similar situation 2-3 weeks ago .... took about a week for everything to get back to normal.
Yea I'am using that proxy IP...i think ive like tried everything lol...I live in NY so idk if any1 thats around here can acutally connect using tzones...
NextPiMp...you say you had similar problem...but its now fixed??...did you do anything yourself to fix it or it just started working all by itself...the thing is i dont really feel like waiting 2-3 weeks for it to start working cause if it doesnt work by then im kinda paying for T-zones for nuttin ( although its 6 bucks it just feels like a waste )
Ivanmmj...yea i know what you mean....I might just flash my ROM for the hell of it...thanks guys
Anymore similar incidents or ideas / opinions...if you guys would share i would appreciate it.....thanks guys
I recommend getting Pocket ToolMan v2.0.21, then use it to set all three Connections Setting (T-Mobile Data, MMS, Modem) to Always On. This help with troubleshooting identify you have your t-zone setting correctly or if it's just not connected when you troubleshoot. I click on the Edge icon and it will show you that all 3 is connected.

No internet acces.

Hey everybody,
Since I'm going on an exchange next week to a different country, and my unlimited data plan isn't going to work there, I would like to know how I can make 100% sure my Diamond won't connect to the internet. So if I accidently press the open browsers button or something, it still just will be unable to connect. Anyone got a solution?
This gets asked all the time...
Use Modaco NoData.

Mobile network sharing app

Hey guys, longtime reader. I was wondering if there was an app that i could DL that would give me the funtionality of the Hero's Mobile network sharing settings? I have searched far and wide and have not seemed to find a solution for me to easily tether my PC running Ubuntu 9.04 to my G1 running Cy's 4.1.11.
Sorry if this has been discussed elswhere, and as you can see ive been a member for a long time and have never needed any help, but i have been lookin for about a week now and have only been able to find these 2 sites about it: http://joshuaredstone.blogspot.com/2009/01/bluetooth-tethering-from-ubuntu-to.html and http://www.kryogenix.org/days/2009/...thout-jailbreaking-or-installing-applications
The second one is the one im inquiring about.
thanks
Please correct me if I'm misreading you, are you looking to tether? ie. use your cell phone to get ubuntu online?
If so I use aNetshare, first result in google. It has worked best for every rom I've ran, the older RCs, cupcake and now donut. I'm roaming 99% of the time so that may be why the other more popular ones give me trouble. idk...
For any of them to work you'll need root and su permissions. There is a paid app out there which claims to tether w/o root or su. I think through usb.
yah im slightly confused as to what exactly it is you are looking for as well...but the one im using is called PdaNet just google it and its one of the first choices.
its free.
it claims it works without root, i wouldnt know cuz im rooted =] but you can try!
it works via usb so it charges the phone while you're surfin =]
EDIT....heres the link. http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php
PS. my bad...didnt realize you were already running cyan =]

sorry if i wasnt clear before but i have Ubuntu and want to know how to tether my G1 through bluetooth using Ubuntu....i cant get netshare to work through Ubuntu. how did you get it to work?
bluetooth, you got me there... sry
Ya, sry no idea how to tether via bluetooth. I really only use wifi. Dunno why(maybe because of high data traffic) but my phone would constantly die while tethered and charging via usb.
Other than getting ubuntu to see&install my wireless card(nothing to do with my phone) I don't remember having any problems getting it to see or connect to my phone.
Or am I still confused and what you're really trying to do is use the internet you already have working on ubuntu to get you phone online?
for whatever reason my Ubuntu 9.04 does not automatically read my phone (Tmobile G1) as a modem through the usb. whenever i configure the steps (http://technologyheaven.com/2009/08/27/phoneasmodem/) to get it to read my phone it still says not connected even though it IS connected. I know the usb ports work cause i can get it to mass storage...just not modem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thx!
it's been a long while since I used USB tethering (anyone remember tetherbot & socks proxies). You may need to have the android sdk installed or atleast know how to communicate with your device via console. Connecting as a mass storage device and as a modem are two different things, so one may work great while the other still needs more setup.
Hopefully someone else with more experience can chime in.. please.. anyone...
I don't know a ton about cyan's roms but I'm assuming they come rooted by default. Is there a reason you don't want to use the wifi method for the time being?
edit: fwiw, you can use the wifi method while charging via usb. But, with heavy traffic(downloading huge files consecutively) the usb may not be able to keep up with the battery usage.. especially if on a 3g network. Using the stock charger & wifi on 3g the battery actually gets a little charge(power supply is ~500mA on usb, ~1A on charger). Either way, usb or wifi, usb or charger, turn off your screen for best results.
Im surprised no one mentioned Wireless tether for root users:http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
supports both wifi and bluetooth.
@B3astofthe3ast, cool I didn't know that(no bt on my laptop, ya it's kinda old heh). For whatever reason on several different roms I get terrible data when using that app, it might be because I'm 100% roaming with no 3g ever. Tethers to pc fine just 9/10 doesn't seem to be able download stuff.
thx, but i have that (http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/). anyway, im thinking its got something to do with my comp and not the phone itself, seeing as i can get on internet with windows just fine. Im just trying to move away from windows and to Ubuntu.
p.s. i dont have a wireless card in my self built computer, thats why i dont use wifi!

Can you help a noob get an N1 to connect to ad hoc

I'm completely new to this and cannot find anything anywhere which gives me the confidence to root my brand new N1.
I need the N1 to connect to an ad hoc network. For a couple of reasons, I cannot use a router, it has to be ad-hoc. In fact, I can't believe that Google have disabled ad-hoc facility, if I had known I wouldn't have bought it! It makes no sense!
Anyway, I have installed the android sdk and drivers, no problem, my pc recognises the phone ok.
I don't know what to do next. There seems to be several options, but none specific to my phone.
One was to use Superboot, but there isn't one specific to my build number which is EPF21B, the firmware version is 2.1-update 1.
Another option is to follow the cyanogen instructions, but will this work on my phone?
Can anyone point me in the right direction? A link to good, easy to understand instructions and the necessary downloads?
Like I said, a router is not possible - this is what everyone recommends on the other forums I have posted on, but it won't work.
Thanks for taking the time, kewl.....
Can't be done, as far as i'm aware
I've got to say that I am staggered that Google has actually BLOCKED this facility, it makes no sense to me.
I have been waiting for this phone to become available for months, and now it is here I find that gooogle have deliberately crippled it, it's virtually useless to me!
Luckily, I have a 7 day cooling off period and I am going to return the phone and go back to my slow, clumsy and buggy Nokia, but at least it works.
Thanks guys!

don't you have a pc with Windows 7? you could try a software called virtual rooter or connectify, to use your pc as a access point to your phone. only ti use at home or work and only if you're looking to a way to give internet access to your phone. that's what I'm doing when i at home where i don't have wifi access. using a virtual machine running a windows 7 OS with a external wifi drive plug in to it (because my real pc runs vista). that did the trick for me
AHA im not alone!! I have the exact same UK version of the Nexus one as you. Ive also had the same problems.. its not htat you cant do it its just the phone is only a week old and none of the modders have modded the new version yet. Paul the guy from modaco is making me a epf21b fastboot i think they just have to change a few things for all the usual root goodies to become available to us UK n1ers
basically ill be sending him a copy of my epf21b today then he can make a fastboot for it then we can do all the goodies...
ill update this thread when i get some progress

No, you can't connect to ADHOC networks on the Nexus. Even with root i'm pretty sure it can't be done.
I was able to connect to my gf iPhone mywi internet tethering and use her connection. My n1 couldn't get a high-speed connection so I turn on her iPhone ad-hoc network and was able to connect
I have a rooted cm phone with the wifi tether app and the barnacle apparently as well. Hope that helps

[Q] Flashing the HERO for Pocket?

i upgraded to an Evo and now i have my hero lying around collecting dust.. i have a friend that uses cricket and i did a ton of research to get it working but my searches stopped when i read that corpus christi and surrounding areas are in what are called an asw (or something like that) market and that either way the phone wont work flashing it to cricket.. so they went ahead and switched to pocket and i took the phone into the pocket store and they tried to flash it using their houdini software but it wasnt detecting the phone (because they need to load the htc drivers) so they guy pretty much said that they can flash it, i told him that he can get the drivers from the houdinisoft website and he claimed that they dont have internet at the store but that the IT guys installed the software... so as of right now im on a mission on flashing the phone myself.. ive found mms settings and things like that but my main thing is the initial flash to get talking and txt going.. so my question is, has anyone been able to flash this phone to pocket.. im just needing to know if i just need to use all the same steps as i do for cricket or metro since searches regarding "pocket" are limited.. sometimes its not even listed as a carrier on certain forums.. howardforums had some info but not enough of what ive needed.. any help would be appreciated during my journey.. thanks
I assume its the same as changing any phone to a different service provider. You just need all the settings for Pocket and put them into the Hero. Basically when a company flashes a phone to work on their network they are putting all of the settings into the phone automatically and not manually like you are doing. I think getting voice calls to work is the easiest to setup and getting mms, sms and internet working is a bit harder if you can not figure out username, etc. But most use the [email protected]
if you have access to a data enabled pocket wireless phone that you can read via qpst or cdma workshop you should be able to get all the info you need to put into the hero. Does pocket wireless sell hero's or any other htc phone that you could get diagnostic drivers for? just load up a netbook and pull from the in store phones maybe?
thats what i was thinking.. a friend of mine brought her pocket phone and i was going to get all the information of the phone using qpst as well as cdma wrkshp but when she brought the phone i was having problems reading it on the pc.. i think the cable was just jacked up.. she was going to borrow a cable from a friend of hers and is gonna bring it over today for a round 2.. ill see if that works
so i transferred all settings from a pocket phone onto the hero and when i went to the store and they tried doing an esn swap its gave an error saying that the phone couldnt be activated because the correct software wasnt used.. looks like im gonna have to program it using the houdini software.. ive dwnlded the program from houdinisoft dot come but it acts for a user name and password so im gonna have to do a little investigating to see whats up with that.. until next time
