I want it to use WiFi as default when available

Hi, I got my TyTNII (kaiser) on saturday and have just managed to sort out the wireless client at work.
I don't get free bandwidth from Orange so don't really want to be using my Orange web connection when I am actually connected to wifi at work. How can i set my phone to use wireless when it is connected rather than trying to open even more connections? Its really annoying as it keeps checking my email accounts and using HSDPA to do so.

Internet Explorer wont even use the Wifi
what use is a phone with wifi if it wont actually use the wifi to access the internet?
Could someone point me at the settings. There must be a setting somewhere to get it to use the connection!

I have had no problem using WiFi with IE or any other browser. I always connect to my router via Comm Manager first (enable WiFi) and then open IE or another browser and surf the net.

Just click on the network card tab when setting up wifi and make sure that the card is set to connect to "the internet".
Your device will use a valid wifi connection if its available (before trying gprs/3g)

You may also try installing a CAB called "NoData" or "KasierTweak" that will allow you to temporarily disable data services other than your Wifi. This is what I use since I am not on a data plan (yet) with AT&T.

ah yeah - just found this - it was set to 'work' simply because its my connection at work. obviously WM counts that has being different to 'the internet'

If you have an active wireless connection, it will automatically use that connection instead of your data connection regardless.

Question about free wifi and phones internet

When ever I use wifi then leave the location or hot spot, I sometimes forget and start using my phones internet and get charged because I don't have a wireless data plan. Is there any way I can stop my phone from accessing the internet? I called to have it deactivated but was told I cant because I have the Family text plan.

I'd suggest KaiserTweak. It's easy to find here. I have ATT's MEdiaNET disabled, as that's what I have & don't want to use [yet].

or you can just goto connection settings and delete the APN
or there's a program call "MoDaCo_NoData" that can toggle the APN off so phone won't be able to access it
just turn it back on when you need to use it

Completely disable service provider's data connection?

How can i completely disallow a data connection apart from regular phone calls? im running ROMeOS 2.2 at the moment, with fring (which is set to ONLY wifi) but fring also is enabling the tmobile edge and then when i delete the edge settings on the phone it goes to the "Tmobile Wmodem Link" thing, which i dont want. can someone help?

Try creating a connection setting with no APN set.

Or simply use Modaco NoData... Google it, it's free!
It's basically a toggle to activate/deactivate data connections.
I use it to avoid roaming data costs!

you can tell your service provider and tell them to stop ANY data connection, ATT does that, now even if I use PIE to open google ( without activating wifi) or start fring, it shows there is no data connection available.
Also if ur using fring, u can set the rule for it to connect only through wifi.

Im not sure if tmobile will do that, as all everyone wants it money. Anyways, yes as i stated in the first post, i had set it to "wifi only" yet the phone still connected through data if the wifi connection failed.
But problem is solved.

i have my hero flashed with just talk and text on metropcs , im running damage control v1 , can someone give me a quick guide to make web work?

u need to be a bit more specific please. now if your wanting to use a data plan you need to sign up for one that allows it or u can use the wifi from your house just go to settings wireless networks and turn on wifi.

[Q] [A] Use mobile data instead while connected to wifi network?

Hi..
Forgive my silly question. Any way possible for xperia z to use mobile data instead wifi while connected to any wifi network?
I use to connected to wifi network with no internet access, just for transfering data.. While i want to still use internet from my mobile network. It keep act like search data through wifi network (of course it can't).. So, is there any way to force my phone to use mobile data instead wifi?

i just bought a wireless flash drive and i realized i cant use mobile data while using it so i cant use internet while sharing/streaming data from my drive.

Technically phone should support multi-path transport system, but phones work in the way to minimize data usage, so wifi have priority whenever ist connected.
It could be possible to make it work with custom kernel, but its just too messed up i think...
BUT

that technically enable both connections, but it need root, and it doesnt support ftp/p2p
Also I personally didnt use it so you should read this topic before using it, and after that just check if it work for you.
