And not you-tube app either, that has been spotless in performance. However other streaming sites, as well as certain "adult" app's produce a "sorry this video cannot be played".
Worked fine in eclair, not so good on FroYo...searched hi and lo, but to no avail. Just lots of other stumped folks.
Anybody????!?!

Why do you want to watch porn on a 4" screen when your computer has a bigger screen?
But as for your question, all depends on the format of the video. Try a different video app as your default and see if it works. If not, I guess you'll have to go back to Eclair.
While you understand what you are saying, im looking for root causes & possible fixes, not hearsay and conjecture. I'm not the only one wondering why there is video restrictions on the froyo leak. (well besides att likes to nanny)
I don't have these restrictions you speak of. I've never had any problems with video playback of any format. And as you can see in my signature, I am running the leaked 2.2
I also have no problems with video playing, RockPlayer runs very well on the Captivate during saved file usage, damn near any format I could throw at it....Except for streaming files. (3gp). Am I missing a way to make the third party video app the "default" for all incoming media? (streaming & saved)
I don't believe there is an option for default streaming app.

Hey guys, If I'm in the wrong area, I apologize.
I was wondering if there was a better youtube app for the HTC Fuze. The native youtube app, and the google youtube app are nice, but they do not play the full range of videos available on youtube, (ex. try looking up the music videos for "What you got" by Colby O'donis, or "Dangerous" by Kardinal Offishall, forgive my taste in music). You will not be able to find the music videos for these songs like you would on a desktop computer.
I've tried Coreplayer, and WVD player, but they either take a really long time searching or there is great difficulty finding videos.
I know this sounds funny but I'm quite surprised that there is difficulty for flash videos on winmo. I have a psp, and the youtube app is amazing (you also have the ability to go to other video hosting websites). Is there a youtube app that is equivalent to a desktop computer or the psp?
Thank you for your time.
ive been a bit dissapionted also in the phone because i tell everyone how much better the touch pro is than the iphone and then it cant do high quality youtube videos. please someone prove me wrong
if you go to the settings icon at the top and hit high quality instead of fast speed they look pretty damn good....
Yeah but if you're running a stock ROM the video skips because it can't process or keep the video and audio in sync..don't know what causes the problem. Not sure if that happens on cooked ROMs though
Have you tried coreplayer 1.3.2 youtube section after pressing views. It has settings out the a**! Hi,Lo,3g,FLV,H264 720p. Beautiful!! Try that if you havent!
But coreplayer is a commercial app, it is not free
btw I tried this software but was unable to make it work for youtube, it never finds anything...

I have a question for those of you have been testing the 2.1 builds that are available here on xda. How is the video playback compared to 1.5? Is it any better, worse, or the same. I am referring to mp4 video and not online flash videos. Right now I have several movies on my sd card most of the time there are no sync or stuttering issues. Other times I have to reboot the phone to stop the sync issues. Also is the FFWD and REW functions still as slow as they are on 1.5?
I never got any videos to work on 1.5
Havn't tried it on 2.1.
In 1.5 video played great using meridian video player. im using the cyanogen 2.01 now and mp4's are not playing at all. Maybe due to no OpenGL.

What are you useing to convert your videos??
I use format factory. It is the best one that I have found. I usually have no stutters or sync issues as long as I have at least 60MB of RAM free when I start the movie. I use Act1 player.
I use DVD Fab Platinum to convert my DVDs. It will convert to any format you desire. I was testing 2.1, but I didn't try video (I figured it wasn't working until OpenGL was figured out).
With 1.5 I have successfully played eight different (full) movies using the "Video Player" app. This app is free on Market. I also use Auto Memory Manager by Mad Squirrel to keep enough memory free to eliminate any skipping.
I wasn't sure if it relied on OpenGL or not. I am not that familiar with android yet.
Any word on when the real 2.1 update is coming out? We're alway the last to get this kind of thing.

Early 2nd Quarter of 2010 (April-June)

Thanks. Hopefully they'll keep on target.
Hi,
I was checking the forum, but found no similar topic, so I opened a new one(bit surprised, that nobody noticed this).
So the problem is, that whenever I play a youtube video, it's bad quality! Or at least not as good as 720p. Of course connected to wifi(high quality automatically chosen).
What I did is, I searched on "Crysis HD", and played the "ultra hd" video. It looked okay.
After that I downloaded JetVD, and downloaded the actual video in 720p.
What a difference!!!
So my question is: whenever I'm on wifi, is it possible to play the youtube video in proper quality?
seach youtube hq
I'm not 100% sure what you mean, I searched youtube HQ on google, on market, and on XDA, but found nothing related.
If you mean turn on the "high quality" in the options while playing, it's done. My question is different.

I had been looking for this too, where can I can such an app
All youtube videos that i play look like the worst quality stretched to fullscreen, it's just horrible, when i select menu-> play high quality. it just keeps loading and never starts playing, not on wifi, not on 3G.

Aye. This is it! So somebody knows how to get around this? Obviously it's not hardware restriction, we just need a proper app for this! Maybe somehow use the youtube player that EVO uses?
Many of the custom roms have the YouTube app swaped for the HD version. You should have a look.

Is there any way to somehow get it without a custom rom?
I have no idea sorry.

Before I updated to new firmware always had to select "play in high quality" after starting a video but now it does it automatically. Have always had the box ticked.
video set to high quality, the problem is not this.
Roy: sent pm with my email!

No, unfortunately it's still not doing the thing I want.
You might not notice, but there is a big difference between youtube 720p(downloaded to PC, and copied to phone), and youtube HD.
I installed the app, but it does nothing, but moves the HD button from the menu to the onscreen interface. HD quality videos are still not even close to 720p.
The developer of DVD Catalyst 4 is reporting a serious degradation in video playback with the 1.2 update. Anyone else experience this?
http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com...-2-FAIL/m-p/981754/message-uid/981754#U981754
If this is the case, and the methods discussed for blocking OTA don't work, looks like I'll be joining the legions of CM7 users. Video playback on the NC is a huge draw for me.
Unfortunately looks like I'll need a crash course. Doing some cross country traveling on May 7 and want to have a fully functional, video playback capable NC on that date.

Its not really a quality issue, the smoothness of the video playback is affected.
After updating, the videos I already had on my NOOKcolor just looked like frames were being skipped or doubled. Its hard to describe, but they just look "off"
I tried a bunch of different conversion tools and a collection of different settings, and all resulted in similar playback issues, which basically points to an issue with the update rather than the conversion tool used.
I managed to play 3000Kbps h264 video on the NOOKcolor before the update, but now 800Kbps files have playback issues.
Testing youtube produces similar results. While I only played a few trailers from youtube, it appears quality is locked to 360, and even then I get audio sync issues.
I haven't tried the 1.2 update but I did integrate the hardware codecs from 1.2 into to CM7 and saw the same thing. For now I'm sticking with our existing codecs as they perform better.

The developer of DVD Catalyst 4 conversion software has posted sample video files that demonstrate the degraded video quality. So I don't think a simple reboot will fix things. If it were that simple, I think he'd have figured it out, since his paychek in part depends upon the Nook Color being a decent platform for watching movies.
Sorry : Wrong Thread.
Mine worked but the selection method is key
My MP4's worked flawlessly with the new update - I ripped them from my own DVD's using DVD Catalyst 4.0 and the setting for Nook Color. BUT, they didn't work using the gallery - I had to select them using the My Files folder in the library app (I have two full length videos on emmc and two on my 8 Gb SD Card (a Transcend Class 6) - either choice worked.
I was looking at the new build.prop just now, and it's specifying a heapsize of 64M.
That seems to be very high to me. If someone's got a rooted 1.2, it might be interesting to see what manipulating the heap does for video playback. I'm still holding off on updating mine.
I have attempted to search for this but can't find what I'm looking for. Right now I'm running Vegantab 7 on my G and some but not all videos are skewed when you try to play them. The sound works great and the video is there but it is too skewed to tell what it is. Unfortunately I can't figure out what causes it, hit or miss on youtube, and all of the videos on great battles medieval do it.
ive seen it too, taking it off HQ for the screwed up video seems to fix it. last but not least, try using your browser on the youtube site, even though I know thats not a fix
