Hello im very new with android and i should say im still on the learning process, anyway here is my question.
I have a firmware installed on my phone i9000DXJG4, if I want to upgrade it to froyo what firmware should i use?
just run kies and update to the latest firmware.
you can also download the firmware and flash using odin
go under the section general in the galaxy s forum and there you'll find a BIG tut on flashing (it should be the sixth post)
you'll learn alot from it
good luck
thanks for the info

Hi all,
I am wondering if someone can guide me to the correct direction.
This is my phone (samsung Galaxy I9000)
Model GT-I9000
Firmware: 2.1-Update 1
Base Version: I9000 DTJG3
Kernel 2.6.29 [email protected]#2
Build Number: ECLAIR. DTJG4
It is unlocked - orginally from Optus.
this phone feels very slow and not very responsive at the moment.
I am thinking of upgrading the firmware hoping that it will improve the persformance
Can someone please tell me which firmware will be best for me? I'm not going to root the phone and I am just after most effecient firmware (good wifi, GPS and signal)
I am not sure which one is most stable for my phone.
Thank you
you could flash a stock gingerbread rom.the ones with bootloaders.jvh is pretty stable.2.3.4 ones will have phone fc bug..you'll hv to root ur phone to get rid of that bug..stock roms u can dwnld from ramads thread..for gps/wifi/signal u will have to flash the appropriate modem.there was a thread comparing modems somewhere here on the forum.try searching it.if u really want near zero lags it would be best to do ext4 lagfix..but again rooting will be reqd.gb roms are fast without these but lagfix still brings noticeable change.
Thank you for the reply.
It seems that I am gonna need to do root on it.
If that is the case, It will be much appreciated if I can be pointed to the correct link (tutorial - step by step) to get this process.
After reading some of the psosts I get really confused with all the type of firmware and kernel etc...
any suggestions and links I can follow will be much a great help much appreciated
Thank you again
The below links helped me out.

Read the tutorials carefully, then read them again and again until you are sure and confident. do not use if you dont feel confident.
Make sure you have the 3 button combo (recovery and download).

Hello, you can try JPY on 2.2.1, it's a stable firmware without the bugs of the gingerbread, if you doesn't want to root your phone.
Thanks for all the replies guys,
I just upgraded to GingerBread 2.3.3 XWjVN.
My next question is:
If I want to get rid of all those Optus rubish - Can you please tell me which firmware do I need to install?
There are so many types and I really get confused which one is going to work for me.
I have seen my friend's SI9000 very fast and snapy - is the firmware upgrade the way to do it?
Thanks again guys

Either update through Kies (official way), or use Odin (a leaked Samsung app with which you can flash your phone) and a ROM of your choice. You can find enough documentation here on how Odin works
YouTube it. Lots of nice easy guides on how to do it. You'll never go back to stock!
you can go to development section of the forum. there are lots of description about it.
Hey guys,
sry for that questions.
Today i got a "new" Samsung Galaxy S from my brother, because he has now a iphone.
I never updated his phone and so he has the oldest official firmware on it. I think without lagfixes and other stuff.
I've got a ZTE Blade and i'm used to update ROMs with ClockworkMod, is there a similar application for SGS? Are there any AOSP ROMs (without Samsung GUI) for SGS? Do i have to install all lagfixes before i can update next (un)official roms?
Thanks in advance for your help.
best regards

Read the threads in the development section for custom/AOSP ROMs (be sure to update your SGS to the latest official stock kies version first before flashing the custom ones)
Hey guys, hey pikachu,..
I read the whole last two days, and tried to connect my SGS with the Win7 in a Virtualbox, but thats another story.
I installed kies, connected my phone with the pc, but then KIES wrote, that my phone could not be updated with KIES. I think because its branded.
So, i don't know what todo next? How can i apply a new firmware on my phone or what can i do, that i receive the next updates (e.g. ICS)?
is there a generic firmware for the beginning?
Thanks in advance!
best regards
One way to do apply a new firmware is to flash your device manually via ODIN, the other thing you can do is to make a reg-hack so that KIES thinks your phone is just like a new, unbranded device.
Thanks! Yeah, i read about Odin, but there are so many different versions of odin, a huge amount of different firmwares and, i don't know which of them have a bootloader.. etc.
I try now to apply the registry-hack and if this works then its all ok, otherwise i have to work with odin..
So,.. I'm done
As i wrote before, i tried to update the firmware with the reg-hack-trick, but it didn't work. So i had to test the other way.. with odin
I followed this german instructions (not allowed to post links, but the instructions are on android-hilfe.de) and it worked very well.. (thank god!)
Now i'm looking for a good or perfect Gingerbread (AOSP).. or a way how i can disable the samsung gui
Thanks for your hints!
best regards!
First post here.
I want to update my SGS to this latest Value Pack update 2.3.6 but Kies is telling me that I already have the lastest update which is 2.3.3.
Help?
Also I would like to learn more on how to flash my phone for various roms but find it scary as hell not to mention confusing lol. As complete novice, where should I start?
Thanks.
2.3.6 has been releases selective countries for now. The latest xxjw4 2.3.6 update is released officially for europe only. So you could wait for sammy to rollout the update in your country or just simply download the firmware from xda and flash!

Flashing is easy. Strictly follow the steps when you flash. Yull need to the exact files for yur phone, odin. As you already hav kies on yur pc so drivers shudnt be a prob. Your phone in download mode and flash. This is a ruf guide. Just keep these in mind and read flashing details.
Now this is one of the best guides to follow n flash -"http://androidadvices.com/update-galaxy-gt-i9000-pack-xxjw4-236-firmware/"

Hi, I need help understanding ROM upgrading: I have a galaxy ACE S5830L with Gingerbread 2.3.4 (stock ROM) version S5830LUBKPB and reading thru the forums I saw that I can upgrade to another ROM (from different carrier) as long as it's made for the same phone S5830L. So I found on sammobile website a ROM from another carrier (for S5830L) Gingerbread 2.3.6 but with a version S5830LUBKPA.
The only difference I can see is the last letter on the version. So the question is can I install this ROM without messing up the phone. I have done it before with blackberry's but this will be my first with android and I don't want to brick the phone as it is my main phone.
Sorry for my english and TIA.

I'm not sure if its okay to flash a ROM with a different letter.
can't you find any stock ROM that's for your device specifically?
development thread section is for posting software development that you have created.
for help and questions, post in the Questions and Answers section
thread moved.

You can flash any firmware for 5830 and 5830L as they have the same hardware. Just remember to flash the modem of your region if you experience connectivity issues.
