Depends on kernel if you are using a 2.6.25 and switch to 2.6.32 (and viceversa) you could break the yaffs fs.
Explanation why you don't have to reflash the rom when you install a new kernel.
Its like updating in Windows or Mac OS X, you don't have to reinstall it every time you update it, just a fyi
Too answer your question or whatever, you press the camera button once to go back, and you hold it for the home button. now if you hold it to long, you'll get a vibrate and then you will be shown recently opened apps. so hold, and you will notice that the call/end button lights turn of and then turn back on. when it turns back on, thats when you want to let go for the home button.
if these instructions weren't clear for you, let me know
my problem is that the camera button wont do anything, i tap it, hold it, combination, anything nothing responds...

try using atools to edit another button as your back/ home button, if that works then something is up with your camera button if not then i dont know what to tell you
Then you most likely have a faulty/broken button. Flash back to WinMo for a few minutes and test if it works. If it doen't, then yeah, you have a broken button. If your a pro at soldering then you could get it fixed. Otherwise, just do what thoughtlesskyle said. Good luck!
The camera button is hardware key configured in the bootloader, you can't change it with atools.

I recently got myself an X1, and I have to honestly say, its brill!
I am mainly using the spb shell panel, and like it for the reason that I can use my thick fingers to operate it. Is their any other user interfaces like this one?
Ok, I am a smart enough guy…(sometimes)…but I cannot for the life of me understand roms…and what you guys are going on about in these forums.
What I am looking for is a good selection of panels to choose from, however from what I can get from these forums is that I am better installing something completely different on the phone.. I assume this gets rid of my panels?
Do roms completely overwrite what is currenly on the phone? Ie. Panels, tomtom, etc.
Any tips would be much appreciated, as I am interested in a user interface that I can better customise to suit myself (cant customise spb mobile shell)…..
Thanks..
Roughly said a ROM is a collection of appz put in one file together with the WinMo OS.
What those appz are, and which version of winmo, totally depends on the creator of the custom cooked ROM. In the threads of the custom ROM is always a summary of what is included.
Most chefs delete the panels from their ROMs, except for the standard panels and the panelmanager. So you can install the panels you want to use.
When installing a new ROM (custom cooked or stock) it always deletes the phone memory, not your SD-card! So you need to install appz, change settings to your own need, and ofcourse put contacts, agenda, etc back from back-up.
Nice, thanks.
I think in that case that I will avoid them for now, as I do not have a good enough understanding of how it works. I will how ever make more of an effort to read into the process to understand how it will benefit how I use the phone.
Thanks for the heads up.
May I suggest you to read this thread:

Ok, took the plunge, and installed a custom rom....
I installed Touch_IT v4.5 and it is excellent..however
Anyone else experiencing lots of crashes? I am getting lots of crashes for stupid things like trying to open the X panel....
Whats annoyed me most is that I have taken off the back cover so much to remove the battery (to restart) I have cracked the part under the camera :-(
Just out of interest...to convert back to the stock o2 UK rom do I simply download "X1i_GENERIC_UK_CDF1215-1832_R2AA010 - uploaded" from:
NEW ORIGINAL X1 ROMS (all released variants) update 14.3.2009
Then Hard SPL, and install this original rom?
Thanks..

Yes, and yes.
Edit: You don't need to HARD SPL again before you flash it.
I believe that ROM is the generic SE one without any of the O2 branding.
If you need to return it for any reason you will need to reflash it with the O2 ROM (which I believe is available in the same thread as you found the one you pointed out).
You'll also need to change the hard spl back to the original.
Shame about the crack under the camera, did you know you can soft reset by holding down the power button for 3-5 seconds?

How do I change the hard spl back to the original??
I do assume though there is no way to reset the phone when it has completely crashed, without removing the battery. Holding the power button down has no effect.
Its a shame as I love the touch-it 4.5 rom. I almost would live with it being unstable just for some of the features (i.e Camera with autoflash, and the touchflo 3D interface).

Did you hard reset after flash, because I've been using Touch-IT 4.5 since the day after it was released and aren't experiencing big stability issues (hard reset is press the two directly under your screen and press reset button with stylo).

When the batterycover is removed there is a tiny hole next to the battery, you can use your stylo to press the reset button inside the hole (soft reset).

Ok, so the reset button is the one underneath the battery cover?
and the right and left buttons are the silver rectangular ones that you can assign as anything?
Should I reflash the phone and hard reset it then, or might hard resetting it now work?

Don't know Resco first handed, but looking at the screenshots (http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/indepth.asp) you should be able to enter the registry at the base of the folder tree.

Have you tried flashing by USB method instead of Via Memory Card?
sorry, dont funny to read the thread, so this question could be known by you.
did you turned off your phone by long pressing the off button?
the second way is a little bit tricky:
push reset .. than (no longer than 0,5 seconds) off + vol_down until vibration comes and tree-color-screen.
it works too after taking battery out and than back. but more time for pushing off +vol_down.

i had the same problem...[after a LITTLE cola damage ]
i contacted the sony ericsson support and they repaired me my x1 [switched a key] even their was set a custom rom...
"if the problem is caused by the custom rom you have to pay 25€ for setting an original rom otherwise we will repair it on guarantee"
so the best thing is to tell the hotline what you´ve already tried and send it to x1 support center...
the german firma "becker&partner" was realy fast...after 3-4 days i´ve got my x1 back
doesn´t know where you are living/how fast the x1 support is in other countries

But firstly, your phone have to normally start up, and can access to windowns screen. If Ur phone have 0.72.OliNex (or 0.52.OliNex MFG) U should flash it back to stock bios? Before reflashing bios, take off SD card, copy stock ROM to SD card and remane it to Kovsimg.nbh, put back to the phone...Start flash. and vice-versa if ur phone's bios is tock one. if ur phone stops at silver screen, shows "loading..." so u take off SD card and copy ROm in there (if stock bios so copy stock ROM or 0.72 so copy any cooked Rom) rename ROM to Kovsimg, put the card back to the phone, take off battery and start again. It might work.

Hello guys!
Sorry my bad english!
I installed to WM6.5 ROM in my HTC phone in february. I used may months, all day...
And yesterday i switch on my phone, put on my desk, and today, i see , that the screen get white. It dont do nothing, just get white. I restart the phone many times, and remove the battery, the phone do this: i enter my security password (i locked my phone) and then its go to white screen, and dont do nothing. And if i swich on my phone, and dont do nothing, its just go to frozen...
A dont install nothing my phone since many weeks.
Maybe, the WM6.5 ROM was out of date???
I dont know, but if i connected my phone to PC, the PC isnt known my device...
I dont do nothing, my phone was dead, and im a big trouble (((((((((((
PLEASE HELP ME!
did u try to hard reset it?
can u still enter bootloader mode?
if u can still enter bootloader then try flash another ROM
I think there is a timebomb in the Rom you are using.
Go to bootloader menu, connect to usb, and try to flash an other rom by installing via Windows.
okay, but what is the hard reset? Is that a red button on my device back?
if it is, i try this, but it isnt solve my problem.
and how i can go the bootloader menu?
thank a lot.
Don't worry...just try the hardreset:
1. With the device turned off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons, then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Continue pressing the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons until you see this message on the screen:
This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to the manufacturer default settings. Press VolUp to restore manufacturer defaults, or press other keys to cancel.
3. Release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
4. Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
If this does not work...just flash another rom...it really seems to have this timebomb issue...you don't have a hardware problem...it's just the software.
here's a video instruction for the hard reset:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=DE&hl=de&v=Eqg8XFJyHBY
thanks a lot, the hard reset worked!!!
thanks!!!
i will flash a new 6.5 ROM.

Hello,
I was watching this thread continously and whenever i try to jump in to help you with tips about flashing, someone would have done it already.
I feel somewhat releived to know that your Kit(d) is back on track.
I like this forum very much not just for the solutions but also for the people's attitude.
Hello xda, so yet another person took the plunge into flashing a rom. Im not sure what I did that was wrong because the install went perfect, it made it to 100 percent and restarted my phone like it was all well and good, but it wasnt. It just sits there perpetually restarting. Believe me I have been looking unfortunately, I didn't seem to find anything that helped. From the threads I read it sounds like I can just go to the boot loader, plug in my phone, then place a stock rom from alltel on my internal storage and flash that, or maybe I was mistaken with what I read. Either way I can't get that to work I can get to the boot loader and hook it to my computer, and the computer will say something connected, but it doesn't show up as a removable storage device or anything. This is the rom I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=553844 this is also the tutorial that I used http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36062
Please, please give me some help.

Anyone have any ideas? I tried using the HardSPL from here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35839
and I tried may different ROMs with the same problem... So i don't think it's the ROM.
Thanks in advance!
i was able to 'unbrick' my phone...
1. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35839, get the 0.57 version
2. load the bootloader
3. plug the phone to the computer
4. go to sprint.com and get the Rom from them and just use their exe
now it's back to WM6.1
So i guess the problem is that there's not WM6.5 ROMs for CDMA diamonds yet?

Alright thank you that worked, I thought I was going to have a diamond shaped paper weight for a minute. I do believe that there are indeed 6.5 roms for the diamond, but I have no idea why this rom didn't work. Thanks for the help.
so I got mine to work with a wm6.5 rom.
this is what i did:

2. then get this wm6.5 ROM: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=74084

Hope that works for you too.
You Bricked your Diamond
My Diamond bricked the other day and it wouldn't load or allow me to do a reset on it. I found a way to manually hard reset the device.
Hold the power button, the down volume button, and the enter button(the circled button) at the same time (continue to hold) then press the reset button. countinue holding the three buttons until a white screen comes up telling you to press volume up to reset device to original settings. press the volume up and it will reset. Now set up your device and immediately active sync and put a new Rom on the device

Yes thats pretty important to know when you are messing with roms, also make sure to note the boot loader screen which is reset, back, vol down, and power. That is how I fixed my phone. This tutorial is a nice tutorial to look over. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36062

Yeah I actually got my latest rom from there, thanks for all the help everyone you were a god send
check everythingdiamond.info or ppcgeeks.com . Both of those sites have stickies dealing with this and all the roms you'll find there are for cdma phones.
I've just recently gotten into different ROM's for my Sprint Touch Diamond. I am currently running Mighty ROM6. Now it flashes fine but after about a day of use I notice the phone starts acting up. Programs disappear, Opera browser stops working and I have to reflash. Is this a common flaw with the Mighty ROM6 or is it something I am doing wrong? I just don't understand how it works fine and after a day or two of use I have to reflash it. Any and all input would be great...

Programs disappear, Opera browser stops working and I have to reflash. Is this a common flaw with the Mighty ROM6 or is is something I am doing wrong? I just don't understand how after a day or two of use I have to reflash it. Any and all input would be great...

I'm not sure about Mighty ROM6, but issues can occur when you don't clear the device from the previously cooked rom.
2 Choices to clear device:
• flash a stock rom first before flashing
• use mtty (link found in my signature)
Regardless of choice, after flashing the selected cooked rom of choice, don't forget to hard reset your device.
Doing this takes out the variable of it being your devices fault and thus puts back the onus to the rom.
Good Luck!

Well that leaves me with two questions....where can I find a stock rom and how exactly do you hard reset a touch diamond? I've tried the volume down + enter and then the reset button but it doesn't seem to work...any other tricks? What exaclty is MTTY? another rom?

Looking for you re: stock roms
as far as mtty is concern, it's a tool that clears your device. Not too newbie friendly though.
HARD RESET DEVICE:
Right after you soft reset reset (red button) simply press Vol_Down + Circle button, then when you see another simple gray menu choose Vol_Up to confirm format)

Look at the 2nd post, of edited my response there.
By the way, another trick is to flash a radio or a rom via Internal Memory Method found below:
COOKING ROMs & Radios from phone =-
1. open from your PC the rar or zip archive and extract only the BIG .nbh file
2. rename as DIAMIMG.NBH
3. copy the renamed file into the root dir of your "Storage Card" or "Internal Storage" (the one of 4Gb... NOT to the internal phone memory!)
4. soft reset your device and within 3 seconds push together the Vol_Down + Back button (the one on the right above the hangup button) and keep pressed until the boot loader appears (the one with the color stripes)
5. soon as you see the bootloader stop to press those poor buttons
6. a very simple gray menu will appear asking you what to do, simple press the power button to perform the ROM/Radio upgrade
7. while the upgrade runs be patient and don't press again the power button, reset the device or play with it until it finishes, when finished a message "UPDATE SUCCESS" will appear, now you can safely reset your device
8. who prefer can perform a hard reset after the fresh cook (soon after reset simply press Vol_Down + Circle button, then when you see another simple gray menu choose Vol_Up to confirm format), even if this has no-sense because internal memory is pre-formatted during flash, but... there is always a but... for some unknown "scientific" reason sometimes an hard-reset can save time & headache
p.s. still looking for the pesty stock rom thread....
