Sh!t, $50?! WTF is it made of? Don't mind splashing the cash for decent kit, but I think i'll pass on this, shame, I was looking forward to one of these. I'll stick with my o2 insurance instead.

Yes it looks a bit dear. What I can't work out is that the pictures of both the defender and the commuter look almost exactly the same as the impact case. Puzzling. I was hoping for a triple layered hard case like the defender for the iphone. I notice that he jack socket has a rubber plug but that seems to be the only difference...
Anyone got a link to better pictures?
I must be missing something...

Three layer protection it says there ^

Three layers maybe, the commuter series also has 3 layers, i'll still stick with my 1 layer next-day-replacement insurance. I have otterbox for my gps + other kit for multi-day walks, it's perfect if a little bulky, but $50 for a non-waterproof case for my streak is too steep for me. I've had to get 1 replacement streak already and I don't think this case would have prevented the cracked lcd. Sorry otterbox, I love your stuff but this isn't worth the price to me. I would have paid $35. (free delivery of course! )
Hmm, just realised they're counting the screen protector as one of the 3 layers. My offer is down to $28!

It may say three layers but if you look at the pics on the otterbox website the cases look almost identical to the impact case. Defender doesn't look anywhere near as good as the iphone 4 one but will reserve judgement until I see some better pictures.
If it's anywhere near a good as the iphone4 case it will be worth every penny because that case looks superb!

I was hoping it would have removeable front screen/lid like the iPad version seems have. As it is I'm with everyone else, there's much better protection out there for less than $50.

The defender case includes more features than just 3 layers. read on...
"Besides these features, it comes with ratcheting belt clip holster and natch in holster which connects to Dell GPS arm which in turn attaches to car windshield."
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...oductdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=A4150936
I'll gladly pay 50 bux for a case that allows me to leave it on when using the car mount or belt clip.
I'm awaiting pictures of this mechanism in action. otherwise, its commuter for me.

Same here...photos of the belt clip, then I'm on board.
How many times have I reached for my streak on my belt in the last week LOL.

Hi all
Well when i bought my Impact case for $19.95 it was the only one available from them and now that they have these others i would still choose the Impact case over them. I have found the Impact case to be great and does all i want or need and i haven't even bothered fitting the screen protector either as just don't feel the need for it.
Marc

I have the impact also, and also just tossed the screen protector. It's GLASS, which means unless you really try, a diamond is required to scratch it.
I don't think a screen protector would do it any good, if, you hit it hard enough to break the glass

This morning I have just received my Defender case from Otterbox (a little hacked off with them because I only ordered my Commuter from them three weeks ago because they told me there were no plans to release a Defender - hey ho!) and man is it rugged! Check it out on their website. It is basically a high impact plastic two part inner with built in screen and lens protection (no need for stickons, although I have left my adhesive protector on and the capacitative screen still works perfectly through two layers of protection), plus a full wrapround silicone outer. But forget the crappy feel of cheap skins, this is seriously high quality and wonderfully tactile. And boy does it protect! I decided to throw my HD2 across the office this morning just to test the new case and it just bounced! It comes with a belt clip which the whole phone clips into, so if you don't want to use it you don't have a bulky clip permanently attached to your case. The hardware buttons work perfectly (the outer skin has button pushes moulded in) - they feel more positive than the ones on my commuter case too. There is an easy access flap over the usb and headphone ports so no dust ingress. It does add a lot of bulk to the phone but it looks and feels great. I'm going to hang on to my commuter for when I need my phone to slide neatly into my pocket, but I suspect it will be wearing the Defender most of the time now. It is not cheap but well worth the price to protect a £400+ phone. If you are into active pursuits (or just accident prone) buy this case!

My only query with these 'rugged' cases is that I see it more likely for my phone to be dropped in water or get splashed on out in the rain of here Merry Old England or the downpours of India then get run over by a 3 ton forklift (yeah, this is the sort of testing they do!)
So my question would be are the otterboxes water-resistant (not waterproof i.e. can it withstant around 1 minute immersion in water?

For some reason I cannot find the Defender Otterbox anywhere with WW shipping ! It's not even showing up on the otterbox site.
Any ideas ?
btw- The " US " Version means T-Mobile's ?
BTW2- Is T-Mobile's version the only one with 570mb of RAM ?

Takes about 15 seconds to remove the case and 45-50 seconds to put it on as the outer silicone skin needs to be fitted around various tabs and into channels to ensure the case is splashproof.

What is the difference between the cummuter and the defender ? Is the commuter much less protective ?
Also, does the "International Otterbox HD2 Defender" fit the T-Mobile HD2 ?
Defender
commuter is just like rubber skin,, defender has the inner case to protect hd2.. No, the international is only for Telstra & t8585, not us tmobile
Thanks !
So what is the second best protection case available for the T-Mobile after the Defender ? (Seeing that Otterbox dont make Defenders for T-Mob)

Case or battery door with a kickstand, PLEASE!

Would some enterprising equipment maker PLEASE fabricate either a replacement battery door or a case that has a kickstand incorporated into it???
After being spoiled on my Evo with it integrated, I just do not understand why it doesn't exist for the Streak. The Streak begs for it even more than the Evo would otherwise!
I think every case with a belt clip should double as a kickstand in the mechanism. It is a win-win! I wish I had the capabilities to fab my own stuff sometimes!

The Otterbox defender comes with a belt clip that doubles as a kickstand. Very handy, you can adjust the angle. Of course, it is quite big, however it offers great protection. I dropped the Streak several times already, not a scratch.

I went to the office supply store (Staples here in the USA) and got a couple of cheap business card stands made of clear plastic. They work great as stands!
The Otterbox Defender is a case that has a kickstand. There is a review of all of the Otterbox cases a few threads up with pictures included.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Have the same trouble. I would like to use the full five inches of my streak for my mobile office work and already got a nice bluetooth keyboard, which works quite well. The efforts to find a suitable case solution are greater though. After some research I found two other ones aside from the Otterbox Defender already mentioned in this thread.
First one is the original wallet case sold by dell. As new member I cannot post the link. Pro in my opinion is the still sleek design and build in kickstand, but reviews criticise poor quality and operability despite the high price.
Second one I like most is the solution from Noreve selling a high quality leather case. Again in comparison to the Defender the design is slim and fits easily into a pocket. But a problem with all these fancy looking alternatives seems to be the protection. I already dropped my streak a while ago carrying it in a leather case. It hit the ground with its edge and got some deep abrasions, because the case did not provide enough protection. I hope some companies out there care about customer feedback and design a nice case, which allows save transport. My favourite would be the commuter case with built in kickstand.

Opinion - Noreve or Tuff-Luv leather case?

I need to make a decision on which one to get. I really want to figure a way out on putting a belt clip on one of these, but not sure how to or what clip would work. It seems the Noreve was offered with a belt clip which was later no longer issued as it was breaking due to the weight of the case and streak in it. If anyone has one of these and worked out a way, please let me know. Thanks:
Noreve
Tuff-Luv
I have a Tuff Luv case, reviewed on here a while back, great piece of kit and very well made but no belt clip. To be honest I wouldn't trust my streak to a belt clip no matter who made it.
2devnull
Hi,
from what I have read on the forum and the net..
I can say, carrying it on a Belt (clipped) may not be the best idea.
It either goes well in your deep(er) pant pocket, or in your backpack!
from the choice, the Noreve seems much more classy than the later one.
My 2 cents!
care,
Sony
I agree. The device is to big to be trusting it to some cheap plastic belt clip. even tho I ordered the defender by otter box I know for a fact ill never use the belt clip.
The noreve looks better..plus there is a stand on the back , bit more functional
Thanks all for the input. I am surprised that many have stated that a belt clip is not desired. I must say, I have been carrying it around with the cloth pouch that came with it for the last few weeks and I really don't think I would trust not having it on my belt. This may be because I have always had a leather flip type case for all my previous phones for close to 15+ years.
The other thing is that I don't think I would trust to keep it in jeans pocket and other than work, I don't carry any sort of bag with me, so I need something that does not consume one hand.
But this is interesting feedback. I was hoping to get something more like this and not some adhesive thing. Although, they seem to only be selling a minimum quantity of 1500.
Also, Noreve seems to have this clip which I don't know if it was the one they offered before, but it looks like it is a new design. I will need to contact them to see if their streak case has the place to screw in the part that slides into the clip. But, the one with the rivets and backing plate does look a whole lot more secure.
I ordered one of these with belt clip number 01 (scroll down to look at options). They will custom make them to your dimensions if you want to put it in the case with a cover on it. I have not received mine yet, but reviews elsewhere were very good. They offer other configurations. Right now they have no listings because of the Chinese New year.
Well, it looks like the Noreve case + clip + shipping will cost USD $103. Probably twice as much as I was looking at paying.
I guess I'll be back to looking at the Otter Defender or the Tuff-Luv if I can modify it. So strange that most nice accessories for this phone is only available across the pond.

Yes, I had first look into this. The issue I have with this other than waiting for their New Year to complete is that I am afraid of dropping the streak after taking it out of the case. With the two I was looking at and also the defender, at least they are made to stay in a case and benefit from some protection.
I don't know anymore, it is becoming frustrating. With all these price points and pros and cons, it is hard to just try them all by ordering and no place to go an try them without purchasing.

I ordered the easecase large enough so that I can leave the Otterbox Impact case on the phone and carry it in the leather case. My thinking was that I have a carry case and I still have protection when I remove it.
The best way to carry/manage using the Streak as an every day device is still evolving for me. I have spent at least 1/2 the cost of the phone on accessories.

hmmm.....this is very interesting.....I know when I had my iPhone, I got this and then put it into a leather belt case, so this may actually be like the same thing. I would probably go for the commuter case however as I read the silicon is a bit different from the Impact and Defender in that it is less susceptible to lint etc.
Thanks for the idea. The cost will run it up there again to approx $70-80 and I'll have to wait about 2-3 weeks for the easecase part
2devnull,
I don't believe that there are any good inexpensive ways to carry the Streak around and protect it. I have seen reports of some people using a Nintendo DS carrying case. I looked at that and just didn't want to go that way.
What about this one?
Just found this one on Amazon

Well, I think I'm going the Otterbox Commuter + Easecase route unless something changes by the time Easecase returns.
I too am looking for a belt leather case for my Streak as I don't like caring the device in my pocket too much. I did contact
I contacted Noreve regarding their CLIP and Case combo but here is what I got!
Is the Dell Streak case compatible with the belt clip?
Do you have a case for Dell Streak that can be clipped to a belt?

No I am sorry.
Too heavy.

A lot of money for something that does not close and you risk taking out an unprotected Streak and dropping it. A little modification and internal size would be ideal so that you can put a protected Streak (with Impact or Commuter or even jelly) inside it.

The Monaco case is only useful if you use your phone with no cover/case. I had one for one day. I got it in a batch if stuff I bought and sold it the next day. It does look well made and suits someone who carries the Streak naked. It would be great for someone who carries the Streak in a purse or backpack a lot.
I have the Otterbox Defender on my phone and bought a case from eBay seller easecase. They will customize the cases to your dimensions. I will get some pics up of my easecase soon.
I offered the Monaco as a suggestion because everyone uses their phone differently and if you like going light and sleek it would be a good fit.
I stated before that I have not found any good cheap options. I got my Defender for no cost, but had to buy a group of accessories and then sell what I did not want to do that. I have more time than money so that method worked for me.
Agreed, if a purse or bag or someone who is comfortable with a naked Streak, it would be ideal - however I think I read that it does not close correctly.

The one that I had was a perfect fit for the phone with no case. The openings were aligned properly for the headphone and charging ports. If I were carrying my Streak with no other case/cover on it I would have kept it.
The Monaco case is such a good fit that even a TPU case makes the phone too big.

[Q] Best case for HD7

I'm going to be getting the HD7S, and I was looking for a good case for the HD7 as they're the same phone. My problem with a lot of cases is that dust and other things get inside the case and scratch the phone. So I was wondering if anyone could help me out and let me know which cases don't do that, the Otterbox Commuter in particular.

if anyone has the case from tmobile that has black edges and a clear back but also want a belt clip get the one from Seidio. I already had that case and ordered the $50 one from Seidio that has case and clip and noticed the tmobile case fits perfectly in the Seidio clip.
The case i received with my hd7 was a cheap $5 one off eBay. The guy told me he paid $20 for it, however i paid $2.50 off Amazon for the same quality case for my last phone. I bought an Otterbox commuter case and for $25 off Amazon it is a great buy. The inner part of the case is rubber and seals all the contact points on the phone and case.

I want the Candyshell from Speck...
That is a pretty nice one.. But the price is way too expensive than I wanted. T.T
What I really like is the PowerSkin for the HD7 - I use with a screen protector I bought separately. Only shortcoming is Powerskin doesn't have a belt clip/holster and is way too big for most phone holsters - I ordered a horizontal case for a GPS off eBay - if it works I'll update with the model number here..

Never heard of it - looked it up and man, what a gorgeous case!! I'd get one right now if I didn't have the powerskin..
I use on my HD7 a Momax iCase Pro. 10 bucks only and it's very good.
Otterbox off Ebay is amazing. Came just the other day and it fits snug inside.
It costed around 40 bucks but is well worth it
Otterbox for sure!!!! I used all three cases they sell at TMO:
-Body Glove was second best IMO (pretty, but cheap feeling, it creaks when you squeeze the chrome borders)
-Hard rubber with the grid back (decent but bland)
-Black bumper with clear back (tight fit *good* but volume keeps pressing with the slightest touch due to the tight buttons covers, plus back scratches easily)
Otterbox, no contest. Tight fit, covers up my decaying buttons (seriously HTC?) and soooo sexy with the brushed metal styling on the back, and feels so much slimmer than the Body Glove
I just got the 2 smoke argyle tpu case on ebay for the price of $0.00 (got a refund and replacement). The cases however are only mediocre. Its a tight fit so I don't have to worry about it coming off or anything like that and it gives you a pretty good grip of the phone. However, it does get slippery if you have sweaty palms like myself and the buttons are now harder to press because of the cover. The TPU case is sturdy and I believe it will protect my phone but it surely is not the best case out there. Price right now on ebay is $3.95 for 1.
I have looked at more premium cases like the momax icase pro and the speck candyshell. The candyshell looks to be a great case and I will probably buy one eventually.
Got the Otterbox case a couple days ago. Works wonders! It has an awesome feel, isn't bulky at all and provides good protection, not to mention the buttons are easier to push. Recommend it for sure! 10/10.
(TWSS also applies to much of what I said.)
I'm thinking of getting the Otter Box myself as I cannot find any Speck cases in the UK.
Only problem I see is that the phone won't fit on a dock/cradle with the Otter Box!?
Why do you need a dock when you have a kickstand?

I suppose I thought it would be handy to charge etc although I still haven't seen a dock I like yet as they don't seem to have supports on the ones with the audio jacks built in. I don't like the thought of my phone free standing with the USB and audio jack inside it in case it breaks somehow.
I would vote ooterbox as #1 but the case dosnt have a belt clip or holster like the defender series. ANd the fact that they dont plan on making one make me lean in favor for the body glove. I got Zaggg's invisible shield max all over the phone with the body glove case. It gives it a really tight feel and stiffens up the bodyglove case from squeaking and making cracking sounds when you hold it.
My vote is for either CaseMate "Barley There" or, Incipio Feather Light case.
Nice protection with hardly any additional bulk added.
i found otterbox is a very good case
skin-it
personally I don't like a big case, so otterbox is out for me. I got a skin-it custom skin I am very pleased with. Easy install, fits perfect, holds tight.

dell streak otterbox defender

OMG this thing is huge. Probably the worst purchase of my life. it makes my pockets and bulge and looks like i have a freaking tank inside. I'm sorry, but going from an iphone defender to this is like going from a phone to a ****ing TV. Who in their right mind would use something so hideous and large. I'm sorry for ranting but this item sucks.

ROFL!! hahahaha
Yeah i have the commuter case from Otterbox and its also fairly large .
On the plus side every time someone sees my phone like at a checkout counter or where ever all i hear is "OMG that is one huge phone" so i guess if your looking for a conversation piece then buy an Otterbox case and your all set .
I love the protection it offers even if it starts approaching the size of a 7 inch tablet with the case on ..
I had the commutter and then got the defender so that I could have a belt clip. It is huge. I hate how it makes it 3 times thicker than the actual phone.
I'm thinking of switching back to the commuter or getting some other case/folio or something.
I think the phone itself is amazingly thin considering what it is and does.
I am glad to read about someone who has had both because i was also tempted to upgrade/downgrade to the defender after seeing my brothers Defender case for the Samsung Captivate..
Now that i know it makes it ridiculously huge i wont even bother.
I wanted a belt clip for the phone because i am always just carrying my phone in my hand since i hate things in my pockets .

Actually, I thought the Commuter added the right amount of thickness to the Streak. It feels more like a phone to me now than a tablet. The Defender, at 70% of the weight of the Streak itself, was way too much.
I don't use a belt clip, but simply slip the phone into my front pocket and go.

exactly, if we could have protection without adding bulk or size on this phone it would be perfect. alas we have to settle for **** like otterbox that takes away the beauty of the phone. people already say hoe big the phone is without the case. I almost feel shameful for putting such an atrocity on this phone.

what about the impact? does it make the Streak look bulky to the degree some of you guys are mentioning as well?
The Commuter and Impact add 1.9 and 2.1 ounces of weight to the phone. Having an Otterbox adds a little bit to the thickness of the phone but you can very easily slip a phone with a Commuter or Impact case into your pocket.
The best of the three Otterbox cases is the Commuter. Less heavy than the Impact and easier to slip into a pocket than the Defender, it also suffers less from the "silicon dust magnet" problem that affects all silicon rubber cases by having the polycarbonate back panel and sides.
I bought one generic from eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300500734438&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT and it's much thinner than my Otterbox Impact case
I also bought tpu case from ebay. I have 2 different outterbox cases and I like how tpu case is cheap and slim. Hoever, I find it very hard to press the power button. I ave to press it 4-5 times in order to turn the screen on with tpu case.
Can anyone give me some feedback on this if they are using it?

I am thinking about purchasing it. yes I know its cheap but I dont want to buy 4th case and wait a month to get it only to be disappointed.

I have one of the cheaper otterbox cases, maybe the impact? Got it for 7 bux shipped. It's just silicon and a screen plastic. It does make the phone thicker and weighty, but it has protected the thing from multiple bumps and scratches I would have had otherwise.
That, and the silicon gives me piece of mind it's in my pocket and didn't slip out since it sticks to cotton almost.
i love otterbox products, have owned several, and was mightily impressed with the quality of the defender on my gtab 7
so i opted initially for the impact for my streak 5, i was pretty disapointed actually, although the silicone is of very high quality and nice thickness, the two side parts that run down the length of the phone, is far too flexible and virtually flaps about, it needs to be far more rigid somehow
so with that, i purchased the commuter, and boy is this thing quality, a bit lighter to the feel than the impact, using lighter/thinner silicon for first layer
but when you snap the plastic shell over the silicone, its transformed into a solid, rigid, very smart looking shell. highly impressed with the commuter, easy to slip into and out of pockets
the commuter is probably the best case for the streak that exists.
it has restored my faith in otterbox, but they have fallen short with the impact on those side 'struts' imho, looks sloppy
After trying all three Otterbox cases and a TPU case I settled on the Commuter as the best. All of the Otterbox cases work very well with the buttons on the Streak. The Defender was too bulky and the Impact collected too much lint and did not fit as snugly as the TPU or Commuter.
My case rankings:
1) Otterbox Commuter
2) TPU case
3) Otterbox Defender
4) Otterbox Impact
If you watch eBay you can find a Commuter at a decent price - I got mine for about $15.

+1 for the Commuter

Yup - I got my commuter case for about 20 bucks - I'm not very fond of the screen protector that comes with the commuter, but you can change that up pretty easy. I like the hard outside shell on the commuter, it makes it feel strong, and slides into your pocket pretty easy, turn the phone screen down and set it on a table or wherever, and now the rubber holds it in place.. very nice design, works well, keeps it safe.
Cheers!
I bought the commuter for myself and then I bought the Defender for my son's Streak. I switched them around to see if I liked the defender better, but it is so damn HUGE...
I believe that it will do what it says... a cheap case may only provide cheap protection. (Buyer beware)
The belt clip portion of the defender doesn't fill me with awe... it feels cheap and while secure enough while on your belt, it is VERY bulky and just for that reason it may cause more issues than it saves.
I think I'm going to revert back to the Commuter for my phone and the Defender for my son... at least the belt clip provides some screen protection...
I have the defender case for mine and you're right...it's huge. The holster doesn't feel very secure for me so I took a heat gun and heated up the tabs and bent them in just a little. Way better now. I have had to do this with every otterbox defender case I've ever purchased, which is one for the Dell Streak and 3 for iPhones for the rest of the family. I wish they would make the holster a tighter fit. On the other hand, their customer service is out of this world. I have ripped the rubber portion on an iphone and broken two holsters (one iphone, one dell streak) and each time, they have sent me replacement pieces no questions asked and no charge.
I agree with strick242, otterbox customer service is best of the best. I had them replace torn rubber on iphone defender and then follow up to make sure I was satisfied.
The commuter is the otterbox i settled on. it doesn't add too much size and offers good protection. I don't like the rubber tab over the charge/sync port though.
