I have lost my unlock code due to a HD failure. I am currently rooted and unlocked, and I run the leaked Froyo ROM.
What will happen in the future, should I want to flash, say, a Cyanogen ROM (*if* it becomes available)? Will I lock again? I understand my unlock codes were wiped when I flashed the new ROM.
Is there a way to insure I do not become locked again?
I have searched threads extensively, I do not think I have found a consensus on this? Anyone care to enlighten me?
I unlocked back on 2.1 (JF6), updated to JH7, flashed 2.2 (JI6), and have also flashed Cognition Betas 6, 7, 8, 8.1, and 9...and I'm still SIM unlocked. As far as I know, it's permanent no matter what ROM you choose to flash.
Your phone can relock if you dont remove your sim when you flash

That's what I did before I got my SIM locked, was playing around with JH7 a month or two back and somehow got it relocked.

Hmm...strange. I still have my code (saved on both my MicroSD and an external harddrive) but I might start removing it as a precautionary measure.
even i never removed my sim anytime while flashing or updating....mines still unlocked....i hope it doesnt get locked in the future, cant we permenantly unlock it. . . .

No. A custom ROM wouldn't lock or unlock the phone. It can be unlocked for any SIM and still be stock firmware, it can also be unlocked for any SIM and have a custom rom.
The two things are completely different.
Hope this helps.
You can do whatever you want to any rom, and that won't affect anything that makes it unlocked
thx for replying,
so meaning, currently the phone is unlocked, and i downgrade to RC29
so it wont be locked again ?
because need to downgrade to root-ed the firmware....
is this mean, downgrade my unlocked phone firmware to RC29
in the process, it will not reset my phone from unlock back to lock status ??
if it will not make my phone locked back again during the process
and i success downgrade to RC29 i can gain root access, then i can update to custom firmware
so another question, in the upgrading process (flasing to custom firmware or cupcake 1.5) will it set back from unlock to locked ??
sorry for my bad english
appreciate for replying, i need to know before i done anything
in the process,
Hi. I also have an unlocked phone. It was unlocked prior I downgraded it, and flashed new custom roms, and it is still unlocked. As the others said no need to worry, if i'm right the locking thing is in deeper level. Of course everything you do with your phone is your responsibility.

Yes, you can still unlock it through T-Mo. No one at T-Mo needs to have physical access to your phone, they can give you an unlock code over the phone.

One has nothing to do with the other. ROMs have nothing to do with the SIM cards and SIM cards have nothing to do with ROMs. T-Mobile isn't going to come to your house and spank you for having a custom ROM because they "know"

OK first post here. I have done a fair bit of reading and searching but still have a couple of questions. I have just bought a Captivate. Made 3 phone calls with it and that's it. It has already been rooted and unlocked by the seller. I know if I upgrade to 2.2 via KiesMini it will remove the unlock and root. After the update can I unlock and root again. ? I hear Super One Click might root it. I have the code numbers from the original unlocking. What can I use to unlock it? Thanks
you dont lose the unlock by updating it. even if you did, you have the code so it doesnt matter. you dont need it unlocked if you are staying on ATT....unlocking is so you can stick another providers SIM card in and use it on any GSM carrier
I am not on AT&T. I have an AT&T phone that's used on Roger's. That's why it needs to stay unlocked.

Use the SIM you intend to use plus the code previously extracted. [APP]SuperOneClick v1.7 (Root, Unroot, Enable Non-Market App works on Froyo.
Update. Unlocked and rooted phone. Updated with Kies Mini to Froyo 2.2. Phone remained unlocked after update. Root was gone. Used SuperOneClick 1.7 and root was back. No problems at all.
Hi,
I have HTC one on Three UK network. I took Sim network unlock code from 3 different paid servers, All have given same code but code does not work. It says Sim Password incorrect. Spoken to supplier and he said it is some bug in new android system. Can anyone explain me how to fix this. I appreciate that.
I already 3 tried another source and checked imei etc.

This is purely anecdotal but the phone I had before this was the s2 LTE model on AT&T, when they gave me the code it kept saying it was unsuccessful until I ran out of attempts. However when I actually put in a t-mobile sim card it worked fine and it was fully unlocked. Maybe try that?

You do know that to unlock the phone you need a SIM card from a different company inside the phone so that it asks for Network Unlock Code... SIM Lock is not the same...

Obviously phone is asking for sim network unlock code when we put non accepted sim card. So phone is not unlocked. We do quite a lot unlocking and few phones get this error, we have to refund customer but I am seeking solution for it. It is only in Android phones (HTC and Samsung).. Samsung's we usually unlock using unlocking boxes but HTC One is not supported other than code. (Setool support older HBOOT).
Looking to unlock an AT&T version of the HTC One to T-Mobile. I do have an unlock code but it's not working. The phone is rooted and running ARHD 51. I just flashed a different stock rom, tried the code once again but still no luck.
Any suggestions?

I heard you need to be stock to use a sim-unlock code so you might want to try back to 100% stock then use the code. If it still don't work then maybe you could purchase a new code.

Check your IMEI number and cross reference it with your original to make sure they match. My phone is doing the same thing and it came back from mobile tech videos jtag repair and my numbers are all wrong. Looking for a solution now but my serial number and IMEI numbers are different.

Do some searching here (in the Q&A) section, there were quite a few SIM Unlock threads solved (quite a while ago), I can't exactly remember, but it used to be a combo of
1- stock rom (or very close) but matching to firmware version
2- possibly stock recovery
3- possibly locked/relocked bootloader
4- s-off / s-on doesn't matter
I believe number 1 was the most important, can't say/remember about 2 and 3, and quite sure S-Off won't matter.

you don't need s-off, you just need to relock the bootloader
Hmmm still no luck. Been working at this for a while now, not sure what the problem is. Selling it is the only solution I can think of right now, but there must be a way to unlock this for my carrier.
Hello. I have a similar issue, so I don't think I should create another topic.
I just purchased a 64gb HTC One and purchased the unlock code from the same vendor as always. I was always able to unlock other devices (One XL, One X+, Windows phone 8X) easily, and even other Ones, since this is my fouth (first one I gave to my brother, second slipped off my pocket while in a tunnel riding my motorcycle and the third is 32gb, so I decided to sell it and buy a 64gb).
This one is used like new, everything stock, s-on, nothing unusual. Well, except the led seems to be smaller (very hard to see the red dot while charging) and the system may be newer, since it doens't find any update available.
But the code doesn't work. I tried twice thinking I could be misspelling the numbers, but returned wrong anyway.
So...
1-What happens if I try again and it returns wrong, since it's showing it's my last try?
2-Any clue?
Thanks in advance.
Does your phone work on any network? What carrier is it branded?
Best thing is to email (carrier) support and get a code from them.
This thread is for devices that have a security cross reference back end problems.
Does your phone say it accepts the code then restarts then asks for the code again?
Sent from my unknown using xda app-developers app

In my experience, I'm not getting anything showing my number of attempts or last attempt. I've tried the unlock code about 8-10 times on different roms stock and non stock and stock recovery. I really have no idea.

Thanks for your answer.
All my HTCs always shown a counter.
Today, after restoring the phone to stock ruu, it wasn't showing any counter anymore, so I decided to try again the code I purchased (and other code sellers confirmed) and it worked.
Very strange... but now it's unlocked.

After a lot of painstaking effort, I managed to flash a stock RUU, got back to a stock recovery, and locked the bootloader. Got the same unlock code from two separate vendors. No dice. Incredibly frustrating, don't know what's wrong with my phone but now I have to sell it.

well you can sim-unlock using the sieempi method instead of the unlock code, like many others successfully did

Sir to make this clear for you let me guide you through what sim unlock is: A Sim Unlock is performed over Cellular networks.. It does not have any I repeat ANY concern with the software of your mobile phone. When you unlock your sim through an unlock code the IMEI of your phone gets registered over Cellular networks so in easy words The unlock happens in air not on your phone. So whatever you do with your phone you will never ever be sim locked again because the IMEI of your phone has been registered permanently on the network when you unlocked the sim before. So feel free to do any kind of thing on your phone dont hesitate .
